REVIEWS OF Dixie National Forest IN Utah

Lisa Jeppson

What a great place. I didn't know that the forest was so close to town. Definitely going back to explore more.

Scott Hoggatt

Highway 14 is a wonderful shortcut between St. George and Bryce Canyon. Beautiful views. The road is steep and winding but well maintained. Could be tricky after a heavy snow!

Teia Arrates

Just beautiful place for camping, my family and I enjoyed our time here

Charlotte Dominguez

Beautiful - wish I could live here!

Susan Childs

Beautiful Lake, fishing kyacking, high country.

R S

Amazing. Such beauty right here in USA. Get out and see it

Dev N

It was tucked away and well forested! We stayed here to camp and we drove up to hike to Zion! It was crazy because there was snow here in June! The only thing is it rained a bit but we stuck it out. We climbed on the rocks, played in the snow, walked by the lake, and explored the Mammoth Caves. We also saw people driving around ATVs

Bob Coleman

Nice place but was chased by a Mastif sheep dog and ended up dumping my dirt bike because of it. He hid in the herd that were on the trail and charged after me. No human shepherd in sight.

Jamin Hancock

Absolutely beautiful place this time of year

Drew Dixon

The views are breathtaking and the hiking is terrific, stay at Ruby's while you are there, you won't regret it

Chris Fassler

Lovely hikes all over and stunning views of Zion National Park, to the west. Not as crowded---and much cooler---than ZNP and the other national parks in the area.

Kyle Roberts

Beautiful place for hiking, camping, all out doors. Great for family bonding!

Charles Olinger

Drive to work goes thru this pretty place

Nicholas Muzik

Beauuuutiful....and full of rattlers. One started at me inches away from my trekking pole today. Be vigilant and careful round these parts!

Vince Bennett

Navajo lake is full this year. The trail is beautiful. The other trails are beautiful and overlook beautiful cliffs and miles of pretty country. I highly recommend you visit.

Taylour Unzicker

Great mix of scenery. Mountain peaks, lakes, valleys. Groves of conifers and Aspen mixed in with sprawling Meadows. Beautiful place.

Jan McDaniel

We explored this area on Paunsaugunt Plateau, just East if Bryce Canyon National Park. Gorgeous Alpine meadows and hillsides. Chimney Rock trail leads to some great hoodoos.

Brian Asaro

Like I've said before, nature always get five stars. My buddy and I found this forest road outside of Leeds. It is a 25-mile dirt road that ends in St. George. Absolutely beautiful camping with views in all directions. There are some sheer drop-offs into canyons where the bottom cannot be seen. I do not recommend going back there in a two-wheel drive vehicle if it has been raining.

John Holman

Great place hike, fish, atv ride, camp and enjoy the ourdoors.

Bob Sandberg

Best place on Earth. There is such a variety of things to see and do I couldn't do it justice. Any outdoor activity you can imagine. Hiking, fishing, hunting, mountain biking, camping, etc.

Marguerite B

So much to see and do. Mother Nature is such a badass

Heather Paul

Such a beautiful drive up Ceader City canyon up to the top of the mountain. Love going for a drive up higher to get out of the heat in the valley and enjoy beautiful scenery.

Vanissa

So much beauty in one place! Great forest rangers! Very clean park! So much site seeing. Shuttles to take you all through the park. An abundance of wildlife. A photographer's heaven!

Jake SeaWolf

Always a wonderful drive. Got some nice drone footage too. Love it.

Craig polizzotto

This place is beautiful. Feel like your in a old Western very awesome

Jenny Riddick

Absolutely beautiful! Specifically, we went to Duck Creek and Navajo Lake. We also went to see the Ice Cave, Duck Creek Village, and Duck Creek Visitor's Center (the staff at the Visitor's Center were very friendly and helpful). At Duck Creek, the campsite area has everything one would need if tent camping, such as real toilets, water spicketts and large dumpsters in and around the area, but with each numbered campsite (there is a cost for each campsite depending on whether you are visiting for just the day or for extended overnight camping, but the cost is very reasonable) is tucked into the beautiful pine and aspen forest (for overnight camping, reservations are required). The campsite area does close for the winter. Truly a great place to spend time relaxing, be communing with nature, or have camping and hiking fun!

jesus salinas

Great place for camping lots of trees! Very good shade and bathrooms have running water and are cleaned compared to other public outdoor bathrooms!

Tom Friend

Excellent stop on anyone's travel!

Jason Davis

This area is really beautiful. It is a stark contrast to the types of forests I see around my home on the East coast.

Pete Stolle

Nice drive up to Navajo Lake . At 10,000 foot elevation the temperature dropped to 55° at 3 PM . Nice to get out of the heat in the summer .

VINCE OLSON

The colors ! The incredible formations ! Breathtakingly striking !

sermar Garcia

The views of this national forest is like you dreaming. I love it. My family had a great time. Pure air.

Jim Weisel

Gorgeous views and a great place to visit. Go to Brian Head, or Cedar Breaks National Monument too while here.

Eric Brueck

The forest service in the Dixie District has allowed all the sheep and cattle to over graze the mountain. I am in no way against grazing right as I come from a family that has a long tradition of ranching. You can go over to the Tushgars,at the same elevation and there is tall beautiful grass with cattle grazing. This area is run by the Fishlake District.

Koos de Heer

Beautiful park. Due to the elevation, the temperatures are nice in summer. Very quiet place to be surrounded by nature and relax. Perfect for hiking, cycling, or just hanging out and enjoying the view.

Doug Randall

My son and I went camping about 7 miles away. Had fun hiking and learning things from his scout leader.

Sven Jacobsen

This is a large area, ideal for outdoor adventurers. There is a lot to do but especially hiking, horse back riding, ATV tours, fishing and generally enjoying beautiful nature. Be sure Out inform yourself about the weather and climatic restrictions. We still saw snow in the end of April. In winter snow chains are mandatory ( until at least 31st of March). If you want to this will be an adventure you will tell to your great grandchildren. Preferably around a campfire.

Lawrence Dennett

It's always been fun to go on drives with friends and it's such a beautiful place to do so!

Tim Morford

Another great place to visit and see some amazing colors and rock formations. Could spend all day here, for days.

Ross Kay

Did the Thunder Mountain ride. First half is a necessity to get to the fun stuff. The last half is mostly downhill, with some loose rocks and a few tight switchbacks. If you're a cross country guy who loves to get your pump on, you'll love the first half. But if you love the gnar, put up with the first half climbing, and be rewarded with great views and technical fun downhill. There's one hill that's like riding down with loose baseball and softball sized rocks. Makes for a fun time.

DL Pinegar

Beautiful place to visit. The scenery is fantastic

Kent Slovernick

Beautiful country, excellent Atv Utv trails

Caroline Black

We absolutely LOVE Dixie National Forest! Highly recommend going to any of the areas!

Grimm

Absolutely gorgeous drive up Cedar Canyon to luscious Aspen and Pine forest and green meadows that all is maintained wonderfully. A nice escape from town with cool temperatures, plentiful trails for hiking and beautiful litter free landscapes.

Ashley Eaton

It was beautiful! At the trails off the highway I wish they had bathrooms but it's a lovely place! The smells from the different flowers and trees as well as the visually appealing pop off colors in something that makes it easy to hike along and not notice how long you've been there.

Jasmine Soares

The infrastructure it's really good, and the staff are super friendly. The locals are really nice to, and we had an awesome weekend doing some trails with our ATV. The forest have a lot of wild life and we were able to see a bear on the trail so bring a pepper spray if you're going too deep in the forest. We loved to camping in there and we will be back soon.

David Mitchell

This has become our favorite stop along our trip through the western National Parks. Great place to Boone dock camp. Easy access and huge site for us. We pulled our car on a dolly with our 35' RV into this place with no issues. Beautiful view and amazingly Sprint works here also.

Erin Mitchell

This was a fantastic campsite for free. The road was well maintained, and it is about 15 min. from Bryce canyon national Park. I would definitely visit this campsite again.

Daniel Bardsley

Amazing. I've visited the sites from above, but hiking through the park and sleeping at different camps have a whole new perspective. Please be aware of the need for water as you hike. We ran out and a bit of panic set in until prayers were said and a timely stranger told us where the water was. Something changes in you, for good, when you can do something hard

Dan Capshaw

Good, but it's a long drive on bad roads. You will need a capable vehicle and a lot of patience.

Richard F

Stop along the way and get great views! Nice Park!

Andy Duran

It's a great place to catch up with family and friends and catch games of all types

Curtis Bonner

Riding the trails around Duck Creek Village, UT you can see some great scenery.

AARON MARTIN

This is a great place to hike and camp.

Randall Moring

This place is pretty incredible. Driving through the arches is pretty cool. There are 2 which you drive through. There are also many of the same geologic structures that you see in Bryce Canyon National Park which is just a few miles away. As a local I have to say it is both annoying and dangerous when tourists slow down and look at the scenery and try to film it while driving. There are an abundance of turnouts for parking and enjoying the vistas. Please use them. We are extremely happy that you chose to visit our area, but please don't make it dangerous for you and everyone else this road is remote but has a very high volume of traffic.

Monja Hatch

Great place to travel. the roads are clean and smooth.

Sanket Sangale

The place is pretty amazing, though it takes around 2 hrs drive from main city to visit this park it is usually dark in the evening do drive carefully while going there. There are many restaurants like 2-3 restaurant that offer food and drinks as well. The food offer has al a carte menu or buffet. The taste of food is good. High chair are available and there is even kids menu available at the restaurant.

Sheree Turner

What a Majestic place! The scenery changed so much on the 2 mile trail at Cedar ridge. Breathtaking!

Nate VanderVeen

We stopped at a few places inside the Dixie National Forest on our way to Bryce. It was very beautiful and has some very nice hiking. Definitely worth stopping and exploring. A lot less crowded than the National Parks for sure.

Dragon Master

Dixie National Forest encompasses several areas of pristine beauty in southern Utah, surrounding some of the nation's most prestigious National Parks and Monuments. You could spend a lifetime exploring Dixie National Forest without seeing it all. Much of the formation of the mountains within Dixie National Forest is part of the Colorado Plateau but borders on the Mohave Desert and Great Basin biomes in the Southwest region near Saint George. From chaparral lively with lizards and snakes to dense pine forest with waterfalls and large herds of deer, Dixie National Forest has it all. A lesser known area just outside of Teasdale, Utah is my favorite place within the forest which I have visited. Often ignored by visitors to Capital Reef National Park and Grand Staircase National Monument, this is a quiet place with all the grandeur of the surrounding Parks and monuments. Get out there and explore, and you may just find your own escape from the noise of the city within Dixie National Forest.

Blair Butler

Great place to ride a motorcycle.

Braden Bateman

a truly amazing stretch of land out in the middle of nowhere. highly recommend this spot for thrill seekers and sight seers alike. 10/10 will return here again. the first time I saw this irl I was just astounded. definitely check this out

Anewa Hatch

It was really pretty, I just drove through it. But it was so pretty.

Dennis Wichter

Beautiful views all around and a great retreat when the weather is hot.

Danny Ruiz

Love coming here. It's an annual visit for my friends and family. Nice private camp sites available.

Angie Turner

I pretty much live in this forest. Lots of options and roads for horse riding, ATVs, hunting, hiking, trapping etc. Just make sure you are prepared with your own water as it gets very hot in Southern Utah and the streams are intermittent and seasonal (and need to be filtered)

Dan Wilding

So much to see... so much to do. Sightseeing, photography, mountain biking, hiking, fishing, streams and lakes. I love this Forrest. We see deer nearly every time we visit. We've seen antelope and elk. Beautiful vistas! This is a beautiful drive or a wonderful adventure area depending on your ability, mood and tons availability. This is definitely worth the time.

Bon Bon

Pretty. Mostly miles of the same thing. Better to bike or walk through it. Or if you can do a dirt bike and get into the more difficult areas. The razers are expensive to rent and can't go too many amazing places. Might as well drive your truck, bicycle, or walk

Paul Mantz

BeaUTAHful! I love these mountains and trees.

tony merrick

Beautiful area lots of deer so be careful driving

Jeremy Stratman

Beautiful place. Get to meet people from all over the world.

suzan johnson

Dispersed camping at it's best. Trails were clearly designated. We did a lot of off roading in our sxs .

KnightsKnights 12

Went mountain biking. It was awesome

Donald Smead

Small Park but still very Beautiful!

Jen&5

Beautiful place. Fun to bring the kids and walk around.

LILIA CASTRO

Another one for the books. Dixie National Forrests’ Beauty was just Amazing! So much to see and so many tracks that lead you to green fields and lava rocks to thousands of pine trees and other types of trees to beards of deer running free and Falcons flying up above. Just Nature’s way of showing you how amazing the great outdoors is.

Ron Archer

Clean, quiet, peaceful and relaxing. Great hiking and camping. Only a few miles from Bryce Canyon.

Casi Finstad

We stayed at a dispersed camping site off of Strawberry Ridge. There was still snow on the ground in late May. The site was large, flat, secluded, and had a fire pit made out of stone. Deer visited at dusk and got very close. It was a nice area, but was colder than some of the surrounding lower elevation areas. still, it was a great place to stay and about an hour drive from Bryce Canyon

Spencer Migliori

Absolutely stunning, what a fantastic place to recreate and beat the Southern Utah heat.

elijah stribling

It was fairly pretty nothing bad to say about the nature

april gates

One of Utah's best kept secrets

Zay Mitchell

Great camping spots. Close to Bryce canyon. Free.

David Read

One of the most beautiful places we've ever hiked. Also, hardly any trail traffic. Trails were just challenging enough but not too hard.

kendra hosack

Beautiful forest but deer flies are the worst! If you get swarmed by these evil little blood sucking fighter jets - evacuate immediately!! They're relentless, hurt, and the bites itch... I'm assuming forever. Migrate a couple miles and try a different spot.

Peter Nguyen

Very pretty, we just drove through but it was pretty.

Time Alone

Wow, what a beautiful part of the world. Forget zion and bryce. I could spend weeks just hiking around the Dixie forrest. So quiet and wild, truly beautiful.

Violeta Salazar

It's an amazing place. If you like calm and relax time you need come here

Mark Jones

The government doesn't get enough praise for the wonderful job they do of maintaining public lands.

Hal McNeil

Beautiful place. Grateful it is close to home.

Nikki Jacobson

Not too incredibly hard, it was a lot of fun.

JL Aubrey

It was Fantastic at the same time fighting fire

K Keyworth

Cattle have knocked down the trail markers. Had 3 maps and GPS and place names didn't agree. Found a couple ATV/UTV trails but don't ride alone.

Mitchell Christensen

The whole area is a gorgeous desert. "I'm not saying I'd build a summer home here, but the trees are actually quite lovely."

T Bone Roam

Beautiful...words can't describe...go check it out!!

Nicole Lowe

I would like to say that this was the most beautiful place naturally that I have been in my

Chris Hodge

Liked it so much I bought a 2nd home here. Quiet, wildlife, just gorgeous!!! I spent more time here than in my main home

Rowdy Hall

Beautiful location. No wonder people around the world come here. Where else can you find a place with such great beauty outside of the United States? I'm not sure. We will go here again and again though. I love to share this place with my children. They love it, too.

Knight Steele

What a beautiful place! The Dixie National Forests is probably one of my favorite national Forests in Utah. It's not very busy, even durring the tourist season. The many different outlooks and roadways provide some of the prettiest views I've ever seen. If you're down in the area, it's worth it to take the time and take a drive in the Dixie National Forest.

Adrienne Mitry

Very nice place to camp. We went to the Navajo camp site and we spent two days there. Definitely worth it

Pauline Gailey

Fabulous views clean nice camping spots. The host was great and very friendly. Wonderful discount for seniors with the golden age pass half price 7.50 per night.

D Hahn

This was a crazy place that we just happened to cross through due to Zion eastern section being closed. The snow here was astounding -at least 6 feet deep - in April! So glad we were forced to take this road and see this amazingly, peaceful and serene site

Brooke Graham

We camped at Yellow Pine loop campground. There is one pit toilet, which was kept clean. If you bring two cars, you will get charged an extra $8 per night for the second car (even though the reservation system says 2 cars are allowed)- I was not aware of this before arriving there. The water there had tested positive for ecoli- I was not aware of this beforehand, thank goodness I brought bottled water. It was really difficult to keep my kids from playing with the water spout that was right next to our camp and 3 of my kids ended up with stomach cramps and diarrhea.

Joseph Sarringar

It's very clean and the staff is always friendly, but the coffee is just so so.

Ed VanWieren

Had i researched more, this park would have been a great place to camp!!! I like it's proximity to the other popular parks and it is a lot cooler hear. There are many places to camp and hike.

Stacy Wilson

Beautiful place, but there is absolutely no wildlife whatsoever to view and enjoy thanks to the devision on wildlife resources

James Arvidson

Beautiful nation forest. You cannot go wrong. Take a day in the park then rent some 4wheelers or bikes from the guys across the highway from Rubys inn or bring your own. They were above and beyond helpful in getting gear, helmets, machines, and tips on where to go exploring. The best part was the cooler temperatures. We got up into the mountains u til the snow was too deep. Lakes still frozen solid. Definitely a different way to experience the area with less crowds. But not too cold. Expect to get dusty and dirty in the summer or a bit muddy and wet during the snow melt if you are riding. Dress appropriately and you'll have fun all day long. It is a blast to camp and take friends or family. Expect cool nights but get out and moving early to see things and beat any crowds.

Michael White

Great scenic drive with fantastic views. There is a hiking trail to 2 lakes (Chris Lake and Deer Lake). The trail muddy, rocky and difficult so wear your hiking boots.

Jeffrey Oram

Close to the National Parks and we really loved our camping experience.

Scott Emett

Beautiful scenery with great trails. Clean and well taken care of

Cynders

It is a beautiful forest. It is on the Hells Backbone road, which is a dirt road. It is a long show drive. Make sure you have several hours for the trip.

Greg Smith

A large forest preserve located in Southern Utah which occupies almost 2 million acres. Contains diverse topography throughout.

Curtis Wood

Love spending time in the outdoors. Facilities are well kept and clean. Big area to review on. You have to try it and see.

M Rios

Very nice primitive campground. Amazingly well kept considering they do not charge. Local town has small market for necessities.

Nancy Rock

Put this on your bucket list. Duck Creek Village Utah is one of the most beautiful places on earth. Rivers, streams, lakes, ponds, waterfalls. Lots to do: Aspen Mirror Lake, Ice Cave, Cascade Falls, Mammoth Caves, Navajo Lake, Strawberry Point, are a must see!

Heather Haught

Wonderful place to escape the heat of Southern Utah.

Felipe Mandujano

It has great views! And beautiful weather by winter

Beth Olson

Beautiful day trip with lots of history to learn about. Fun hikes too. Great place to take beautiful pictures and make great memories!

Ann Clark

Look out for lava remains on scenic route 14.. amazing

Shane Young

Red Canyon is gorgeous and the whole forest is diverse and beautiful

Mark Thomas

Great places to camp (for free) so close to Bryce Canyon National Park.

Erin Anderson

So much beauty! You can't see this in one day though. Make sure you go during good weather and bring food and water in. You'll need it because there is a lot of hiking and walking to do! You'll love every moment. You'll only experience this here in Utah!

Bruce Newland

A bit of a trek, but the sights at sunset were gorgeous! Four wheel drive recommended.

Christopher Spatti

This place is wonderful especially when it has snow. We went through the Dixie national Forest on the to big basin national park. We have fun taking pictures of the snow and trees. Would it come here when there's snow and would there isn't.

Richard Wible

Such a different landscape unlike any other with lots of different walking and riding trails.

Alan Seekamp

Awesome scenery and very helpful staff at the visitor center

Raul Cannon

Great place for nature, hiking, and camping. Unfortunately, it rains often and when we went there for a hike, it poured down on us. There is a waterfall and a creek where kids and pets can swim and play.

Roger Layton

Great place for hiking, camping, off-roading, and anything outdoors. Try it, you'll like it.

Greg Jenkins

The road out to Peek-a-boo slot canyon is bumpy. We blew a tire in our Sienna van on the way back out. Take a truck if possible. The hike was amazing. Definitely worth the trip!

Nomado Alvarez

Bring some gatorate as well as plenty of water. Prepare to walk and bring a sweater as it can get cold. Breathtaking views. Fresh air. A little adventure with mother nature. Most visit place for mountain bike sports lovers.

Brenda Talley

The ride was good. We've been here 2 weeks. Got lost at times because all the signs are gone. Plz put up new signs. We had a map must but didn't help much. We would have been lost a lot more had we not been here with someone that's been here before.

Larry Jewett

Great to see unique lava flows.

al v

Rick van der Holst

Beautiful park! Dixie wasnt my destination and I was quite suprised by it's beauty when I drove through it.

Keith Strom

High desert comfortable in the summer in that you are up in elevation. August weather is mid 70's to 80. Night time the star's are big and bright. Wind can sometimes get real strong. It's just a beautiful part of the planet.

Jacob Marvin

A PLACE YOU CAN LOOK,FEEL,SMELL, HEAR, AND STILL WANT MORE ,ITS LIKE A TRUE GIFT FROM GOD, THIS IS A HEALING HIGH ENERGY, SPIRITUAL PLACE........ EVERYONE SHOULD EXPERIANCE THIS PLACE,.................

Drove through in August, 2019. Amazing and beautiful. I want to go back. It was part of a trip through Utah, and many of the National Parks. I've fallen in love with Utah.

Lois Terral

Not fair to rate because we only drove through. All of these parks are wonderful, beautiful and great to visit.

Mike Litterist

Beautiful scenery what more can I say

Candace Harris

The most beautiful national forest in the country.

Michelle Squyars

So much variety in the landscape... Desert, Alpine forests, lakes and streams and pyroclastic flows. Give yourself time to enjoy the trails.

Second time driving through on Hey 12. Fantastic views, the fall colors were blazing, great forest to visit.

Anthony Woo

Wonderful natural views good for hacking

jeff frazier

A few smaller hikes in Cedar Breaks National Park midway between Cedar City and Brian Head. Mild to moderate intensity hikes allow for fantastic views and quite possibly a rare spotting of some Condors. A few signs also explain some of the local plant life.

Joyce Killpack

We love this place and recommend any and all to visit this place

Mumukisses Griswold

We love this forest. Love cold weather.
