The Flaming Gorge area is the most under-appreciated recreational area in Utah. I've been coming here since 1977 and love the place so much I finally made it my home. Just 170 miles from Salt Lake, it has clean air, great hiking trails, and wonderful lakes (one is 93 miles long!). It doesn't get any better than this!

This place is absolutely gorgeous, there are always amazing views, and good times. This is the perfect place to disconnect, and relax. I always love having s’mores here, given that the fire danger is low.

We love the mtns here. Prefer national parks to state of Utah. You can camp in campgrounds or pull off the road spots. Flaming Gorge has good fishing and the Green River below the dam has top fly fishing! Lots of hiking trails.

Beautiful views, incredible mountain ranges. Visited Grandaddy lakes, great weather, but got rained out. I'd recommend fishing mainly in Grandaddy, hardly any bites in the others that I visited. Fairly short hike in, about four miles. Would recommend got any outdoorsy types.

Great place to visit, you could easily take a two wheel drive truck on the main dirt roads if the weather cooperates, with an ATV, UTV or 4x4 you could go anywhere. Take a jacket it can get a little chilly on top. Great views on a clear day

Absolutely stunning. Camping in late June we did experience sunny and warm, rain, hail, and woke to a half inch of snow. I would recommend preparing well for all possibilities as the elevation is high and the weather fluctuates a great deal. Location is very close to the Dinosaur National Park and about 20 minutes to a town equipped with dumping and shopping. We had no problem at all finding a site which was large enough for multiple large campers and 4 tents. There are many bathrooms available that were decently kept. Campsites had fire rings but were otherwise very authentic and right with nature. Stream close by was fast this year and we had to keep a close eye o kids but it made for very relaxing nature sounds to sleep by.

It was September 15th and the colors was amazing. Deep and light reds, various oranges and yellows in all the trees. The conifers were dark to light greens. Like a fairyland of color, sadly no fairies. I must say it was enchanting though.

The train ride was great, but when we went up there we took the bus back in that was the best way to do. you got to see the best parts of Alaska going on the train out and then taking the bus right back and we got to see The visitor center taking the bus right back.

Where we went in the Ashley national forest is rugged backcountry where it is just you and the trail and your pack. We camped five days between 9900 and 11000 feet. Beautiful country but rugged trails that aren't always in the best of shape so make sure you are prepared. Good boots, trekking poles etc. Very damp this year so lots of mosquitoes. Make sure you take high quality bug spray. Plenty of ambient water in the area so rehydration isn't a problem if you have a purification system. Make it far enough down the trail and there are lakes galore to fish.

There is a two track all the way up to the top of the hill. The view makes you feel on top of the world. You can see the marina with the water tower down at the Gorge. Try it at Sunset you won't regret it.
