Absolutely favorite park- lake, trees, rock climbing, etc.

Great views of the lake. The shelters are the best views. The tent sites are too close together. Plenty of shade. Rock climbing and rappelling are fun here. The Park Store is loaded with stuff. More than most state parks. Rental prices for Kayaks and Canoes are more expensive than most state parks. This park is close to town so if you get scared you can go to a hotel or visit a coffee shop. I will visit here again when it’s not rainy to experience all the hiking trails. Team at check in head quarters is very helpful and friendly.

This is a wonderful state park. The rock climbing area is so stunning and fun. You can actually do some rock climbing!! There is a well maintained trail that goes around the lake, with some lovely views. There is another trail along the grasslands area of the park. That trail is wide and flat, and an easy, pretty walk.

Rock climbing in North Central TX? Yes! It is all top rope, and you need a long cordalette to master most of these, but it’s still climbing! Get after it! When you’re done, walk 300m to the lake and enjoy a dip.

Love it here! Great campsites for cabins and tents. Good hiking and swimming/fishing/canoe and kayaking. Great park all around!

Did the red lake trail to penitentiary hollow and loved it. Terrain a bit challenging but definitely worth it.

This is a very nice park. Lots of things to do with the entire family. They have little screened in cottages that would be great in the fall. Hiking, rock climbing and site seeing galore.
