It's an incredible place to get away from daily life if only for a few hours. Walk or ride your bike either way it's beautiful! Don't forget the most important thing leave your cell phone at the house. I would recommend a camera though you never know what you might see.

Eduardo Padron

Great hiking trails. A full hike of the Ridge Trail is a very rewarding experience. Visitor Center is educative, and with the friendliest staff. Sand Cave is a magical place to visit, but does require some stamina. The Hensley Settlement is a beautiful place. Views from the overlook are nice. CUGA is not to be missed.

Paul Damerell

We camped 3 nights in our trailer, and explored the local sights. This is a beautiful and scenic area. We enjoyed Pinnacle View, which gives a panoramic view of the area. I also did the trail to Tri-state peak, which passes through the historic Cumberland Gap. The campground is very nice with flat, shaded, nicely laid-out sites. We're glad we made the visit. Finally, the drive along Wilderness Trail (US 58) in VA is beautiful.

Arikka Smith

Absolutely gorgeous and the people there were beyond helpful and knew what they were talking about.

Mark Hughes

Several trails to hike ranging from beginner to somewhat challenging, historical displays in the visitor center are worth checking out. Enjoyed the visit for the third time, this park never gets old.

They say one price then it's 5 thousand dollars more by time they process your paperwork and don't want you to know until after you sign so always ask questions and make sure you know what you're getting yourself into bc you may end up with just a year of free time ups,but they make it sound like its always available.

Steve Sigmund

We went on a cave tour with the excellent guide, Carol. The rangers and volunteer guides are very informative. They took time to point out not only interesting cave formations, but showed us fossils in the rocks and hard to spot cave salamanders. They educated us about the history and geology of Cumberland Gap and were eager to answer questions people had. The trails are well kept and signposted to make navigation easy. In addition to the cave tour, we also walked up to the top of the ridge to see the Tri-State Monument. You can see Virginia, Kentucky and Tennessee from the top of the Ridge. Of course, the view would be clearer in the fall and winter when the leaves are off the trees, but it's still well worth the walk up.

Brandi Morey

This was an amazing experience. Go into the Visitors Center and get a map of the park. They have lots of info on trails and places to see. We started at the top and worked our way down. Beautiful views and lots of pictures to take. Special thanks to Carol (hope I spelled it correctly). One of the Rangers, gave my husband and I, a quick but incredibly informative crash course and secret tidbits no way would we have known about..She is absolutely amazing. Thank you! We will be returning next year!!

Wendy Garone

Went for about ten days. Sites were nice and clean. $10 a night with senior park pass. Beautiful trails and a waterfall through the mountains. Only negative is park and hosts are constantly around like they think someone is doing something wrong. It was intrusive.

David Smith

Beautiful place. Great for family outings.

Jim Fast

Went there for the Hensey reunion. The park Service went above normal to make sure the road was repaired so the family could drive up the mountain road. Plenty of rangers for any needs. The Hensley Settlement portapoties needed some hand sanitizer, everything else was great. The park Service is doing a great job of keeping everything repaired.

Bethany S

So beautiful

Melissa Murry

The whole family loved it.

Mc KitKat

It was cold in Virginia.... jk.... But it was cold up the mountain... Loved every second of it. Nice place to experience.

Kevin Keith

Sometimes you get to see wonderful wildlife like deer, turkeys and I've seen hawks. However. They need to use some of the budget they have to fix the roads. They have fixed some of the bad spots. But not the worst ones. I don't know their budget and everything but it needs to go into some of the roads. Their bad. I travel this road every time I go out to Middlesboro unless I absolutely have to go colmar. The wildlife is the only thinning that have this a 3 star. No animals, 1 or 2 star just because of the roads.

David Reeves

Great view and we'll maintained. Watch out for bears.

Chad Potts

I love the Cumberland Gap Nation@l Park. Our little city of Middlesboro is truly blessed to be a part of of somethingdso naturally beautiful. You can go to the park and sit down to a have a pick-nic. Travel up to the Pinnacle and have a bird's eye view of Kentucky, and it's two connecting states, Tennessee, and Virginia. The Pinnacle is located on the top of the moutain. If you go to the Overlook , you can look down, seeing Cumberland Gap. There are many shops and stores, whee one can look for antigues, or learn about crafts. There are a few restaurants for dinner, a also a couple bars to have an adult beverage afterward. Regardless of where you find yourself in the National Park, you are surrounded by nature. It's a calm , and refreshing area where can solatude and beauty.

Teri Scheidegger

Really cool! Low key environment, not like the other National Parks. Some walking involved.

Great place to camp ( tent or evening) free concerts every Saturday. Park well patrolled and clean. No admission fees and camping as low as 7.00 with pass. Disability friendly with concrete paths to restroom which are clean. Disabled individuals can get a free access pass with proof of disability ( social security or doctor letter) and it will get you in national parks and never needs to be renewed

Michele W

Very helpful and friendly staff that have good recommendations for books, hikes and site seeing place. This is a beautiful area.

Jason Henry

Cumberland Gap National Park is located in 3 states with the headquarters in Kentucky. There are many fascinating Historical places in the park and the whole area has many miles of trails with fantastic views. The Pinnacle is a great place for a snack or even a picnic meal with your family and being able to see the whole Valley stretch out in front of you is fabulous. I recently visited the town of Cumberland Gap and the Iron Furnace with my daughter and my day was really great. Butterflies and summer flowers were visible from the trails and the waterfalls made the Summer heat not really bad at all. The people in the town seemed very nice and I am considering staying at a local bed and breakfast in a grist mill in town on my next visit. I also am looking forward to seeing the caves and Caverns running through the National Park with a ranger led tour. Overall a good place for a day out or a pleasant weekend getaway.

Hunter Griffith

Emily Pudliner

Beautiful views! Park staff are super friendly!

Ellen Lyng

I've seen some very cool vistas; Glacier, Yellowstone, Zion, Grand Canyon, Great Smokies. This is among the top 10 ever. Drive to Lookout point and see history. It's an incredible vantage point to see not only The Gap and why so made people funneled through here, but also why so many stayed.

James Pitts

Great historical place with very helpful rangers !!

Charlotte Tucker

Beautiful place, some nice hiking. Leaves are starting to turn

Stephanie Banks

Martha Hale

A great place to visit

Becky Coulson

Another great hiking day on the Wilderness Trail. Such a beautiful place!

Randy Grinalds

Very quiet and peaceful in the woods. You could almost hear the echos of the settlers and their horses as they crawled along the Frontier Trail 220 years ago...

Lesa

Husband invited our grown kids and their significant others for a cookout while I was at work. I'd been here once before and thought it a good idea. Had a good time, it's a beautiful place.

Ed Gowland

We stayed at the Cumberland gap wilderness road national park. Ample dump station with fresh water. Clean restrooms and showers. We enjoyed it so much we stayed two weeks. Over 85 miles of trails ranging from easy to strenuous. Most are pet friendly. Dogs must always be on leashes. Some trails permit horses. A great grocery store just a quarter mile away from the entrance.

Joann Yeager

Nature is awesome! Relaxing! Just look at that view

Cindy Brown

Breathtaking views! Wear your hiking shoes!

Nugget Man

This was a really fun trek. I'm trying for Philmont and this was perfect for it. The inner campsites don't have water so make sure to bring lots or bring supplies to purify water. Very rocky

Colin Saad

Still beautiful in the winter. The Sand Cave and White Rocks Lookout are both great spots. The hike there is mostly uphill and isn't on the most interesting trail, but well worth it for the destinations.

C Agee

Awesome place to visit and live.

Tamara Baker

A great place to stop and appreciate the struggles of our forefathers!

Matthew Geiger

An awesome view with great hikes and very freindly park staff.

Peaceful getaway... Hiking, history and very wooded campsites.

George Florian

Very nice, quiet, well maintained campground. Wish we'd had more time here, but will definitely return. We really enjoyed the dulcimer "jam session". Thanks for intro dulcimer lesson, too!

Janice Hamilton

This place was the original gateway to the west. As a national park it has camping and much history. The beauty of these mountains is great any time of the year. I might suggest following Boones trail from n.c. thru sycamore shoals to Kingsport up 23 and out 58 to the gap as a way to go. After leaving follow 25e south and stop at the scenic overlook.

Deborah Houbre

Everyone is so friendly and helpful. Love hiking here!

Rick Leasure

We drove through the tunnel and into Cumberland Gap, TN, then up the road to the national park on the VA side. That gave us access to the Wilderness Road. There we learned the importance of that road years past. We took a short walk up to the Gap Cave. It was closed but there is enough open area to get out of the sun, to sit down and enjoy the cool breeze coming from the cave.

Timothy Rathert

Camped here. Campground is well maintained and would camp here again.

Brennanbooth89

Stunning. So many trails and so much history. We'll marked and we'll maintained. I didn't have time for the pinnacle hike, and unfortunately the road was closed due to the shutdown. The tri state hike was very cool. I'll definitely come back to explore more.

Stephanie Carson

A must see. The mountains are gorgeous

Denise Keaton

We stayed in the campground and loved it. Sites in B & C sections did have power but water spigots were shared at central areas around the campground.

Cullen Carter

The plethora of historical occurrences within this park lends to its beauty and draw. There are many hikes along the stretch of land within the park, varying from the easy and quick to the more strenuous and lengthy. The visitors center gives most of the historical background of the park, and I would highly suggest stopping there first. The drive up to Pinnacle Overlook is a quick way to absorb the park's wonderful views.

Lee Carpenter

The view from the Pinnacle was beautiful the park is clean and well-cared for everyone should try to visit at least once

Crystal Berns

Absolutely beautiful scenery and helpful staff.

Doug Murphy

Great place for a history fan to visit. Good trails to hike (long and short trails).

Jess Lawson

Great place to go for long or short walks with a beautiful scenery

Greg Carmony

Enjoy the peacefulness, which isn't often there, I've picked up a truck load of trash from visitors who apparently never used a trash can, and watch out for the the rangers they think they're the parks little police force

Bea Conner

Beautiful scenery. Nice path and easy to walk on, clean, well maintained and free.

Helen Plasky

Beautiful country. Peaceful

Gayla Daniels

Well kept place and very organized. Fun place to go.

Emily Ayers

I hiked White Rocks to the Sand Cave. Let me tell you, it is a steep trail but the views are completely worth it. The trail itself was very rocky are there were so. many. roots! There were also about 7 water/ steam crossings, nothing major I was just ignorant to them prior to hiking the trail. The payoff is well worth the effort.

sheryl small

Very interesting movie about the gap.

Travis Troms

The view is breath taking and the history of the park

Bill Bennett

Enjoyed the scenic drive through the mountains with plenty of pull off spots to stop and take in the scenery. Everyone loved it

Rhonda moses

Just vacation in the Cumberland Gap area. Absolutely love it. The beauty was refreshing .

BJ Hart

Cool little side trip off of the highway. The grounds were well taken care of, plenty of parking, bathrooms and a sweet view at the top.

Andrew Elegante

Great little park off of today's beaten path but at one time central to it. I didn't know much about this place but as I was picking my back roads route from North Carolina to Indiana I saw that I could visit the park and do some hiking so that's just what I did. I got way more than I expected, from the Lincoln University and the charming town of Cumberland Gap to waterfalls and civil way era forts it was a treat. I liked it so much that I ended up hiking to the Gap from both sides (accidentally as I was trying to make my way to the Pinnacle view from the Kentucky side). Incidentally the view from the Pinnacle area is amazing and well worth the hike (or drive if that's available to you). Plan to spend at least half a day here or more and if the Lincoln museum at the University is open you should go and tell me if it is worth the visit (sadly it was closed when I went). Highly recommended!

Courtney Walker

Our kids were super excited to get to stand in 2 states at once! The views at the pinnacles are spectacular!

Beautiful park. Sand cave is life altering if you are into nature's beauty spots. Some trails are medium difficulty, be prepared with water.

Rebekah Clevenger

This was such a fun trip! I didn't feel like there was all to much there, and not much to learn but the area was interesting, different, and fun to visit! There's so much beautiful scenery there which to me is totally worth it!! Check out the town too!

sandy newland

awesome place, you really should check it out. not much walking if you dont want to. but lots of trails if you want to hike

Karmia Garrison

I walk my dogs here and they love it. Have had bad experiences on the bridges, they are extremely slick and have fallen several times. Have had bad experiences running into people who don't like dogs, other dogs and some rude owners. We stay off trail mostly and away from a large portion of foot path. I continue to walk here because my dogs and I love walking and it's a good workout. Highly recommended as tourist spot, plentiful parking and always friendly and polite rangers. They don't have vending machines which I feel would be an asset. Great hiking trails.

Brenda Bailey

It was a beautiful peaceful experience. God's country. Just standing up there and looking out over the mountain range was breath taking.

Donna Smith

Fantabulous views, great paths to travel long and short distances. Calming and peacefully to be away from towns and traffic. Never crowded and people are polite when needing to share a pathway. Historical sites to visit on the way up to the Pinnacle. Always an enjoyable visit!

I was only there a short time to walk the pups but was in awe of this place! I did drive up to the Pinnacle Overlook which, for me, was a white knuckle experience, but what an amazing view. I can't wait to go back and explore! I did see a lot of natural trail while driving up to the overlook...

Allison Ingram

Amit Naik

The overlooks are really nice.

Melissa PARTIN

I love this park it's Great for hiking and picnicking and just enjoying the outdoors

Bill S

Walk in the steps of early American explorers as they followed the local natives across the mountains through the gap. An excellent museum and thought provoking video to educate you about the history of crossing the previously blocking mountains.

Nancy Rae

The Pinnacle was beautiful. It is not a long hike to get there either. We saw a deer raccoons in a possum. The people that work at The visitor center are extremely helpful.
