REVIEWS OF Evans Plunge Mineral Springs IN South Dakota

Carol Barnhart

Family fun, slides are great, there are lifeguards on duty.

Natalie Mannen

Always beautiful crystal clear water and nice and warm! Kids can go down the water slide with a lifejacket and adult! So much fun everytime.

Amy Payne

Fun place but it was not what we expected for the price. Nice thing is that they offer the twilight discount if you are there 2 hours before closing.

Justin Johnson

Fresh spring water, no chlorine, slides and rings! Fun for the whole family. Check it out if your in Hot Springs.

Ilene

Fun for the kids!

Susan Jordan

Enjoyed my visit. The facility has small and large lockers, dressing rooms, and showers. The water was warm. There is a slide, shallow area for children, hot tub and sauna (over 16). A wristband was provided for all day usage. .

steven Davy

The pebbles on the pool floor was neat.

Deborah Hopper

Was a lot of FUN! Even us senior citizens enjoy it.

Laura Troastle

Love it here water temp is great with the bonus of no chlorine in the water. A nice place to go with family or just to burn some energy.

Shana Vogel

Awesome experience. We went during the week, two hours before closing and had the pool to ourselves!

George & Meg Mar

Expensive pool. Toddler area is nice but the rings are only for older kids and adults. Slow water slide was to my liking. Family bathroom doesn't have a shower.

james hartline

good place to take the kids to let them unwind while you're on vacation

Madyson Richards

Evan's Plunge was so much fun! It is worth your money though and I would highly reccomend it.

Theresa Raven

Great place for the family.

Sanford Ader

Great family fun at an affordable price

Brad Delaney

Great place

Effie Hunter

I have mixed feelings about this place. I thought the price was too high. I did not think the water was warm enough for me to swim. My kids had a good time. Needs a little updates but what place doesn't that has so many people in and out!

Bob Negley

A nice hot springs pool. Water slides (4) indoor/outdoor pool. A nice change of pace in Black Hills.

Jamaica Perkins

Great place to take the family and enjoy the day

Jo L

A great place. However, it would be nice to also have murals of the Native Americans on the inside walls as they were the first founders of the springs.

Jill Rust

Great, warm, mineral spring-fed pool. Slides are a bit outdated and not a lot of room for small children, but nonetheless my kids (2 and 4) had a great time. They provide life jackets and had a few balls floating around to play with. For older kids there is also volleyball net, basketball and swinging rings. Somewhat expensive, in my opinion, but entrance fee is good for all day fun. Worth a stop if you're in the area and your family loves swimming.

David Holte

Stopped in as part of our Mt Rushmore trip. It was really quiet, and offered a lot to do! 2 sizes of kiddie pools, laps, and even a Ring Swing. The steam room and hot tubs were amazing! My whole family had a great visit. If you're nearby, definitely stop by!

Jenny Oseth

Very fun....neat little place!

Galyna Tuttle

My family enjoyed Evens Plunge so much we went two days in a row... Are you Man or Woman enough to swing across the Water.... It's not as easy as it looks.... American Ninja Warrior style...

Lila Freislinger

Not what we expected. Too loud and kids do jave fun there.

Bob Zoeller

Great place to unwind

Clara Casanovas

Great place. Fun and relaxing. I found the 1 day ticket expensive at 14$+taxes. There is a good deal from 6 to 8pm at 50%off. Go and relax!

Erick Smith

We went here 3 July 2017. Water was awesome and very relaxing. The children, ages 3-16, enjoyed the slides. There are three slides. The older children enjoyed the rings. There is an area for smaller children. Luckily we went early enough that it wasn't busy. That area was very busy when we left. Locker room was a little smelly/dirty but comparable to any pool locker room. I didn't have a chance to use the health club but would have liked to try the steam room. Admission price for one adult and five children was ~$60. This is reasonable for all day access. They serve concessions at a reasonable price. The pizza was pretty good.

mary alatorre

Amazing experience. The staff is wonderful and the place too

christas

I swim laps in the morning and the healing waters has made me feel much better. I have far less headaches and tension, the extra benifits is the way it makes your skin feel

Shyla Boyd-Wright

Locker and shower are kept clean, well supervised pool areas, refreshing way to swim. Enjoyed the slides and playing volleyball at the pool.

Martha Gurney

Don't remember being there

gary Hardwick

Super fun and good to wear out your kids

Angie McDanel

So fun! Kids loved it and didn't want to leave. The locals we met were awesome and so welcoming!!!!

Michael Maughan

Evans plunge continues a tradition of excellence! I have been visiting "The Plunge" nearly yearly since 1991. Every year they continue to improve the building and amenities. My kids still want to spend the entire day here. The price is incredibly reasonable as are the snack bar and gift/pro shop prices. There is always a great mixture of locals and vacationers to meet (if that's your thing). The staff are always very friendly and helpful. Definitely worth the stop if you are anywhere in the area.

Raliegh Porter

Used to come here as a kid, still same old look and design. Could use some tlc with paint, rust, and other slides and add-ons to make it a little more modern. Otherwise still a fun place to go.

Tracy Sanborn

Had a great time. Water was excellent.

Ashley Pierce

Such a great place to be, especially for birthdays.

Rhone Kahler

Very dated, I suppose its the towns theme as this was the case everywhere. My family of 5 from 11 years to 48 years of age, all had a great afternoon. But don't even try taking your own food in. I was trying to finish my can of sods and those lasts were relentless screaming if close to hallway. Why 4 stars despite my negitive decription we really had a great time over 300 worthy pictures and the waters warm. And crowds were minimal.

dakotaboondocker

It's ok but over priced for what is there.

Nancy Wick

The water was warm and mineraly, like soft rainwater. The water slide was fun and the hot tub relaxing. Bring your soap and shampoo for the shower afterwards.

Mark V

Our family loves it! So much fun.

Michele Stewart

Loved re-living those fond childhood memories

Bobbie Dee

This is great place for families

Wylie Dank

So much fun for the whole family. Love the crystal clear, clean water. So much better than a chlorinated pools.

Wade Jorgensonyrtu

Strange wonderful place. Clear water. Indoor and outdoor pool. Hot tubs. Water slides. Worth doing with the family.

David Schofield

I visited Evans Plunge 30 years ago and recently brought my kids there to experience it. It was, and remains, a special place.

John Lysaght

Excellent way of keeping the hot spring available for anyone. Made for a relaxing afternoon.

Donna Reeh

I went here when I was a kid (about 45 years ago) and loved it. I still love it! It's big, it's fun and you don't get the chlorine overload like at other pools. Cute town, too!

Ciani Sosa

Water was really cold. The rocks at the bottom seem cool until you have to walk on them.

Jody

A soak in a mineral pool is wonderful. Great for the soul! Smooth rock bottom make this extra wonderful. Waterslides, kiddy pool, inside and outside pool, and two hot tubs. All for a low price. This mineral pool water comes from the ground and is a constant 87 degrees. I wish I lived closer, I would go daily.

Jason Voss

Water temp not nearly hot. Suggest focusing ads on mineral content and dropping all terms like hot or warm... these are quite misleading.

Myra Alexander

Absolutely amazing very relaxing!

Steve Showalter

The water was very soothing. Cooler than I expected but comfortable. We had a lot of fun on the rings. I had never seen them over a pool like that.

Mike Miller

Always a lot of fun for the kids!

Andreen Family Fun

Great place to visit in South Dakota. The water is hot, its a really neat experience. There are pools just for the little ones as well.

Anthony Moreland

Very rejuvenating. Can't wait to get back there. My advice is stay for at least 3 days and soak it in. Most reviewers complain about the rustic look but it is that look that makes this spring works so special.

rachel cook

Fantastic employees! We went at 630 am, while slides were not open yet, they did turn on the kids frog, and gave us wonderful background details. We left smelling great, and feelt amazing! So happy we could stop even if at 6:00 am. It's a must try!

Amie Holmberg

Fun water slide that we ride over and over. Loved the rocks at the bottom of the pool. Was not what we expected for a hot springs temperature wise. Not unpleasant but not warm.

Doug Cookston

Evan's Plunge is one of the iconic attractions in the Black Hills. Located in Hot Springs in the southern hills. It is a good place for people of all ages to enjoy the warm water for a couple of hours. Best of all it is open year round.

Jenn A

Best place to swim

Christie Dolce

Evans Plunge is a kid favorite. We recently came through the area on vacation and actually came back the same way to visit again. Kids loved the slides & the warm dip in the springs is lovely.

Sherry Hall

Great place to soak & sauna! Nice service & friendly atmosphere..

Chad Shimp

So nice, no chlorine in the water, kids had a blast.

yvonne mendoza

3 adults, 3 kids = $70.00 with a local motel rental discount. Very "retro". HUGE pool with river rock for a floor. Pool water seems "fresh" when u first touch it but its super comfortable once u sit in it. THERE ARE NO PUBLIC SPRINGS ON THIS PROPERTY. The water that flows into the pool is spring fed and u really can tell the difference between chlorine pool water and this. Its almost like a heavy lake water. 2 inside water slides, indoor Basketball hoop in the pool, volleyball too. Front desk peeps were nice. Locker rooms clean. Locker rentals are 75 cents but careful not to lock ur stuff in there. Every time u open the locker its 75 cents. Few seats around the interior deck. 2 hot tubes in " health spa ". Steam rooms did smell moldy but we just didn't go in. Outside pool with its own slide. Some chairs out there. Family fun! Good time! We were there for 2 hours. The price was the equivalent of a movie showing, pretty much, so we felt it was not that expensive. Over all, if u are looking for a nice, indoor pool while on vaca....id choose this one. :)

Yujin M

This place has a huge pool that keeps getting filled every 1 hour, it has water slides and outdoor pool, it is a super fun place to hang out with friends and family and the neighborhood is super cute!!!

Jeana

Going here was a unique experience! The facilities were a bit outdated, but otherwise it was relaxing. I loved the natural spring water in the pool and the rocks they use at the bottom of the pool felt nice on my feet. I would go here again if I were in the area!

anne bratcher

Ahhhhh! Fun place to enjoy playing and soaking. Towels available for rent $2- Small lockers .50¢. Large locker .75¢ There are fans blowing in the locker room, so it doesn't become a humid mess. A suit spin drier is available. Warm your bones, cool your skin, work the sauna ~ all viable options. There's a gift shop, and a few snacks.

Mystic River

Natural mineral springs pool with water slides, kiddy pool, rings to swing across on. A couple exercise rooms and even some classes. All around great place, friendly atmosphere.

braniff smith

The warm springs a joy for the family, two great slides and hot tubs too :-)

Tori R

It's probably the only place that let's me where a mermaid tail. I love it so much. All the other water packs have slide and don't have a big pool to just swim and relax. They also have nice hot tubes

Dawn Bennett

Unique, one of a kind pool! Fun for all ages! A must go!

B Humbracht

Fun for whole family

Carrie B

It is very nice for a community pool. The water is warm natural spring water. They have hot tubs to relax in. The slides are pretty fun. My favorite part are the rings going across the pool that are challenging for most.

Crystal Scharlott

It's truly a wonderful experience swimming in fresh spring water. The staff was very friendly and the lifeguards are really on top of everything. One lifeguard even took the time to talk my daughter into taking the plunge. I came here as a child many years ago and wanted to give my kids the same awesome experience that I remembered. It did not disappoint. I recommend this place for all ages.

Jordan

Working at a youth camp, I took a group a kids here. I had fun and the kids had a blast. 3 watersides 2 hot tubs Sauna and steam room The floor of the pool was really cool. There was a few inches of river rock on the floor.

CGH

Our 9 year old really wanted to swim while we were on vacation in the Black Hills. We spent several hours here and our kids loved it!

Jm W

Evans Plunge is an awesome deal for an awesome time. I regularly make the 3 hr drive to swim and take my young son to play. Evans Plunge offer a wonderful facility that's clean and kept in excellent repair year round.

Ted Dubaniewicz

Lots of fun.

mark balue

Nice place to play

Shuree Olson

It's fun for kids and the young at heart, wonderful natural springs pool!

Shane Bennett

If your in Hot Springs you have to go super cool place for the whole family

Laura Thibault

Thought this would be a great afternoon stop. Change rooms and showers are poorly kept and filthy. Cracks in walls, paint chipping, nasty odor. This was a complete waste of our money. Told the girls at the front desk that we were unhappy and they just shrugged their shoulders. Total waste of $60. Probably the worst pool we have been to and we’ve been to many.

Hum Wishdom

Go figure, the worst hot springs in America is located in South Dakota. It isn't bad, and I like the stones in the bottom instead of tile but why ruin it with steel roof and a YMCA type of feeling ? Is there a way to get the hot springs to mix hotter, and preferably outdoors so that you can float on your back and watch the stars instead of three hairy lifegaurds that also stare at you back? Also, it's impossible to sink in this pool, just so you know. I tried holding my head under water and it took a strong grip to push myself underwater. The water is actually pushing me upwards and makes you strongly bouyont because of all the naturally dissolved minerals and salts. So can you guys make a more astheticlly pleasing pool or is that just a hopeless request in the State of South Dakota? Greatfulness a hot springs exists here but honestly this is the worst one that I have ever soaked in.

Abby Becker

My 7 year old son had fun swimming and feeling the rocks under his toes. Admission is kind of pricey, especially if you have a gaggle of kids.

Pam Hart

This place is a hot spring. Very respectable place for the entire family.

melissa a-k

Yeeesh. This place is rough. The water, and entire place, smell pretty bad. Something like a filthy, sweaty gym sock. The locker room showers were plugged and causing a flood in the locker room. A lot of rust on the pool surfaces. Nothing looked or felt clean. No noticeable benefits from the water, either. Way too expensive for a disappointing and stinky experience!

Tennille K

We all love Evans Plunge! The rock flooring and natural spring waters makes this an amazing and unique place to enjoy time with the family or by yourself. It's calm and quiet, offers several depths for varied levels of swimming skills, play area for kids and of course, water slides! The staff is always friendly, and if you forget your suit or just didn't bring one, they have plenty to choose from! Love it!

jess Anderson

Such a unique place and prices aren't too bad either. My kids loved the slides! And the rings!

Rob Sohl

Only indoor pool at been in that has large river rock on the bottom my kids really enjoyed the slides and I'm swinging rings

Sarah Bomford

Good place for the kids but not that great for adults. I think the hot tubs need cleaned out more.

Sal Mosqueda

Great place for kids or adults. Took my 31 year old fiance there and he loved it.

Sandra Lehberger

Water is refreshing. Definately worth the plunge.

Scott Morris

Nice pool. Locker rooms weren't great.

Ann Greenia

Fun for the family and great History!

Aych Ess

Relaxing, great space for kids! We always stop here during our trips to the Black Hills.

Stephan Rahlmeyer

A little old but nice.

Christine Albrecht

Natural spring feeds this. No chlorine! Bring your towel.

Justin Lee Barnes

Perfect and relaxing water temperature

Chris Holloway

Very nice the hot tub and sauna is awesome.

John Vydra

Great old place with clean natural spring water Sauna , steam room , slides just fantastic stop on your travels

Jello Dee Marco

A fairly well stocked gym upstairs and the pool downstairs. The pool has a few children areas, two indoor slides and one outdoor slide, and 5 olympic rings spanning the width of the pool. The rings are extremely fun and highly rec. As a challenge and for fun

Cindy Prior

I really enjoyed the pool. I realize that it's meant for families and kids, but it would be nice if there was a section for the seniors who visit. The minerals in the water healed my heels.

matthew Childs

Family favorite. We always stop for a swim when passing through. We as always have a blast. The stop by gus for icecream afterwards.

Christine Roath

Tons of fun for all ages. It's an older pool but the 6 of us had a blast!

Cynthia Feldt

Love the place! Go every chance I get.

Caleb Hower

Lots of fun with a lot of history

Camu Maharajah

Old timey swim place. Historic updated to modern. Go after 6pm for half price.

Elena MatoTamaHece

OMG a must visit if your in the Hot Springs area! Warm mineral water, hot tubs, water slides, fun time for the family and an exercise room for adults.

Amy Esposito

A wonderful find! Indoor "pool" style spring. We went first thing when they opened on a weekday and almost had the place to ourselves! They also have hot tubs and saunas available. I love the stone texture at the bottom. Water slides do not start until 10am.

Derrick Radtke

We love this place! had a great time! Pool is a real treat, and the staff was great. Looking forward to our return!

Michelle Mauer

Good place for groups and to let kids burn off some energy.

Google User

Water temp is far from hot, I mean it feels cold when you get in but it is from a hot spring source up river. No chemicals, great gym, but the price is ridiculous and the place is horribly mismanaged.

Easy C

The water slides we're not working... Which was a shame. All the staff was helpful and excited to explain how the hot springs worked. The river rock which made up the bottom of the pool was unique and very enjoyable. Great place to visit for a few hours if you have the time.

Pepper Beebe

It has areas for younger children and offers vests to use. My kids were 15 8 and 2 all had a blast.

Bou A

Water is not hot as you imagine with steam but fun for the kids

Kaloa Devine

It's a fresh water warm springs natural pool. Nice fresh water. (Don't let the town name fool you, this is a warm natural springs it is not hot but a consistent 86°) The building surrounding it is older and could be better maintained, but we love it and go often. There's hot tubs, sauna, steam rooms and exercise area upstairs.

Darla Parker

This was a fun pool for the kids. We went for the twilight savings and two hours were enough. My son spent his whole time trying to get through the rings and never asked succeeded but had a blast! I was expecting warm therapeutic water and it was regular pool temperature. The steam room, sauna and hot tub were nice but I was there with my family and wanted to be with my family.

Nicole Brousseau

What a blast! Neat place to visit!

Staci S

A little pricey if you go during the day. We went within the last 2 hours before closing, so admission is 50% off. We were done after a little over an hour, so glad we didn't pay full price. Kids enjoyed it though. Nice staff. Glad we went

Julie Johnson

My kiddos loved it! The water was a very comfortable temperature. It was nice that they had a partition in the little kids area. The only thing that could be improved, in my opinion was having a lifeguard at both indoor slides helping kids know when it was safe to go down. About halfway through our visit, a lifeguard did go up to the top of one of the slides.

Craig Holstedt

We enjoyed this very much because we went during the off season, so the place wasn't over crowded. We could swim. Ride the water slides. Or use the steam room, sauna and hot tubs as much as we wanted without interrupting others.

Alison Nelson

This establishment really took me by surprise. I guess I was expecting a natural setting, instead of an interactive health club. It turned out to be just right for our extended family group of 14 people. The less confident swimmers were pleased to find life-jackets for loan. The thrill seekers competed for increasingly epic water slide runs. Acrobatic rings, volleyball and basketball courts give plenty of options for splashy game-play. We were even able to purchase a high end bathing suit on-site (which is exactly what kind of suit was required for a full figured gal). If you want a bargain on beachwear, this is not your pick. If you want fun and variety for the whole group, and friendly staff, visit Evans Plunge!

Mike Gallagher

We went here because our kids love swimming and it's not vacation if they can't swim. They loved it! The slides were perfect for kids of various ages, they even let little kids go on the inside slide by themselves or with a parent. The outdoor pool was nice and a good place for a sunny afternoon. The facility is a little bit dated but almost to the point that it's a cool retro facility. It wasn't terribly crowded and is a huge pool even if it was, the only downside I noticed is the lack of deck space for chairs. The price is right and it's a good place to take the kids swimming.

Jessica McManus

Relaxed environment...no lines.

Gina Jobe

Neat experience. Love the history of it. Would go to again. 50% off after 6 pm!

BRENIS ADONAY ZACARIAS

Great place, you can have tons of fun here, water is nice and warm, there's is a place for little kids about 1' deep and up to 6' for adults, it's a very nice place, I highly recommend it.

Scooter Jumpingbean

I was hesitant to go here because I wanted to see the national parks instead, but I'm glad I went and I will be back the next time I come through here. The water was crystal clear and warm. No chemicals in it so it doesn't hurt your eyes when you open them, and you don't come out smelling like chlorine. The colorless odorless minerals in the water really did make my whole body feel relaxed and refreshed after I got out. Both the saunas were awesome too. They had a humid one and a dry one. The round river rocks on the bottom are a nice touch and felt good on my feet. Awesome place with an awesome history as the first tourist attraction in the state.

Kat Crow

What an amazing place! An enormous pool with slides and a rock floor. No chlorine because the water recharges every 5 minutes. The minerals are so refreshing, and the town is lovely. I only wish there was no roof on the building and maybe seats for relaxing in the water.

Spider Sillery

Can we do 3.5 stars? It was a cool place but kind of costly. Adults were $14. Three to fifteen year old's were $10. We were there for about 1.5 hours. They had a 3 slides for kids and adults and 1 slide for little ones. There were 6 rings to swing across the pool which was fun which was kind of like seen on Ultimate Beastmaster. Water volleyball and water basketball area. I thought there would be a lap swim area but it was not set up. They also had a one foot pool for babies and a 3 foot pool for kids. We had fun.

Vinny G

Fun place to take the family. Water felt so good! Changing/shower area needs a good cleaning.

Greg Murray

Good time for the kids and I swimming. I used the cardio equipment upstairs- 2 treadmills, 2 concept2 rowers, and a stationary bike. Obviously could use an elliptical or 2. But very friendly staff- relaxing at the end of a trip.

Cevan Kyla

A little outdated and showing its age, but friendly staff and allot of fun.

K W

Filthy unkempt and overpriced. Nothing special just like any other pool you could go to with less risk of getting ill. There was literally poop and toilet paper all over the changing room absolutely disgusting. Refused a refund even though we spent all but 10 minutes in the building. Gave us tickets back that will never get used because of how nasty and disappointing it was. AVOID AT ALL COSTS THERE ARE MANY OTHER PLACES SAFER CLEANER AND MORE FUN THAT YOU CAN SPEND YOUR MONEY!!!!!

Rod Miller

I haven't been there since forever but had a great time just like before a must stop in the black hills! Will definitely be going back soon! Good job Hot Springs for keeping a national treasure open and thriving for more families to enjoy!

Trinity

We went at 6pm for half the price and were there until it closed at 8pm. It was a perfect amount of time and there were only about 20 people there. During the summer they can get to about 300! It was very relaxing and there were great areas for little kids and big kids. My daughters enjoyed going down the slides and they had a blast! The staff was friendly and great and my skin felt nice and soft afterwards. My daughters can't wait to go back!

Elisabeth Ewing

Bit cold for my taste in a natural soak.

Brian Hillard

It may be overlooked compared to the other attractions in the area, but it’s still worth it.

Mona Vallejo

A wonderful experience

John Riefler

Nice clear water. The kids had a fun couple hours. They liked the slides. Water was not that hot.Felt like regular pool water and temperature.

Boom

Great place to bring the kids. The water is great and so is the atmosphere. They have a good food selection as well. Prices are decent and worth the trip to visit a little gem in the black hills.

Chad Gnadinger

Some say it's dated, I say that's part of the draw. In a historic town. Does need a little paint here or there, but the kids didn't notice. The slides were fun, the sides are high and make a great jump. The pool bottom is river rock, which is neat.

Jason Trupe

We had a good experience here. There’s plenty of parking, admission was fast. They have large male and female locker rooms as well as a family changing room. The indoor pool is huge and the water is pretty warm. Since it’s spring fed there’s no chemicals in the water.

Steve Schade

I love the plunge but this place is due for some major renovations. Still looks like it did when I went as a kid in the late 80s.

Luther Striker

Great water and saunas. Do it.

Scott Berglund

A bit spendy, but fun.

Conni Pappas

Great place to swim. Check it out !!!

Aaron Hamburger Sr.

Historic place, well staffed, great for kids of all ages.

Kevin Kneeland

Lots a fun. Couldn't get enough of the straight slide

Carly DeRuyter

A great place

Daniel Edwards

Enjoyable place to relax for a while. Not too crowded and the relatively high water temp, 87, was nice.

Brandon Johnson

Fun place. Do NOT attempt the pool ropes unless you are young or in good shape. Trust me on this...Surgery.

Antonieta Darce

Love it, not funcy but fun

Matt Schneider

Pool was great until my phone came up missing. Later a lifeguard tells me his wallet was stolen just last week. Maybe dont charge for a lock when you have an issue with theft? Just a thought...

Ernesto Stubbs

It's a bit pricy for what it is, but overall a great experience. Water is (un)surprisingly warm, and feels great!

jimmy needle

Was a good place to go for a swim and have a good workout and also see the history of the pool itself it's quight the experience and a lot of diversity to see

Jacky 69420

Great place to swim and have fun with the family

david wentworth

Great place to take kids.
