REVIEWS OF Champoeg State Park IN Oregon

Fabulous open areas, camping areas, trails and loops also for bikes, picnic areas, play area, covered area and building for a group, restrooms, museum and more to enjoy. Campers, cabins, tents and yurts. We enjoyed a lovely day pass and picnic a short distance from the city but with a feel of being far removed. Beautifully maintained.

Cheryl Lo

Wonderful sprawling park with cozy cabins. The cabins are cozy and clean and not to far from the bathroom and shower building. We stayed in cabin 1 which is mostly shaded and backs up to the camp paved trail. There are also a couple of trees out front that are just the right distance to hang a hammock and a good bunch of shrubs to block the view of the parking lot. The parking spots for the cabins are assigned and are a short distance away. They also have a wheelbarrow to haul your things over. They also sell firewood and ice so no need to haul it in. Bathrooms and showers are older but really well kept and clean. Unfortunately there are no hooks or shelves in the bathroom to stash your stuff. Showers are private rooms with a changing area and free hot water. Park has an awesome “natural” play area and lots of paved trails for little kids to bike around. Historical buildings and sites are fun to explore. The visitors center displays are really well done in telling the story of the location. The rangers and volunteers really add to the experience. There is also a little garden where they grow plants that were present when the original settlement was there. They also sell little packets of seeds to bring home for your own garden. Will definitely put this park on the list for future family trips!

Tricia Jones

The park is beautiful! The staff and how it's ran needs a lot of work.

Andrey Burkovskiy

Well maintained park, great for a short hiking trip with kids.

Jimmy V

This is a good place not too far from Portland. Loop A is mostly RV and loop b is mostly tent. Nice playground for kids and walking and bike trails around. Loop a hosts very nice. $5 wood. $2 ice. I could only give it four stars though, because in the distance there was a very loud radio show blaring from 11:00 p.m. to 4:00 a.m. so it takes away from the "remoteness" of the place.

Brandon Jensen

Great place to learn some great American history.

Emily Hay

Great view. Lots of birds. Frisbee. Dogs. Sometimes ice cream.

Sally Kiess

Beautiful spot on the river. With electric & water.

Jenni Denison

Beautiful campground as well as the surrounding area! Super clean, especially the bathrooms. Tons of trails and a frisbee golf course. The only reason I didn't give it 5 stars is because the sites are not private at all, may be great for groups though. Everything else is fabulous!!

Traci Hall

Love, love, love this place!! Camped here many times. Close to city, yet far enough away! Nice paved pathway to walk. Trail is a few miles long. Great bike riding, frisbee golf and picnicking. Camp sites are fabulous and always clean! Reservations can be hard to get, so plan ahead!

Rouse Boys

Tons of trails for both foot and bicycle travel. Boat access and fishing dock. Several camping areas. A day use area with picnic tables and barbeque pits. A disk golf couse in the oak grove. Plenty of parking!

Garrett Mattimoe

Great rental spots that are clean and modern. Disc golf has some wide open fields and very family friendly for all ages. Well kept park.

TheChucklespal

Pretty with all the green and trees. Nice place for our niece's wedding.

Mike Carter

Quiet park with nice play area and lots of walking paths.

Larry Janson

First time finally playing this disc golf course, & loved it!

alan wynne

Great campground. Really big, not too crowded. Its lovely.

Annie Badgley

Love this park!! We came here on a Sunday with our dogs. There was plenty of parking, tons of places to walk and run, and a beautiful scenery.

BreAnna Jo

Beautiful park. The rangers are amazing love this place.

Marc Sweet

It's a nice park in the middle of farm land separating the old highway, and I-5. Good Disc Golf, and other activities I am not part of.

Anna Phillips

I've been visiting Champoeg for over 40 years. No better place to take a walk. Choose a shady trail along the river or a paved path with more sunlight. Bicycles and pet friendly. Even when this park is busy you can find seclusion.

Stephanie Swift

good place to stretch your.legs but otherwise.just a bunch of grassy areas.flood history display was interesting

Chris Chwalek

Beautiful scenery. Quiet and peaceful campground.

Paco Hadley

Great location. The walking/bike path is very nice (and pretty long). There are plenty of side areas to explore, water access, historical markers, a nice little museum, disc golf, and plenty more. A good spot to go when the forest is too muddy, but you want to get into nature. It's a 45 minute drive for me, and I've been back multiple times.

Scott Mueller

Great camping spot. We like the B sites in the back. Much bigger spots and spread out.

gr hafford

In my opinion one of the best parks in the state of Oregon. Spacious and wide open camping spots. The park is founded on an original city. This is where the state of Oregon was voted on. My only complaint the name of the park should be named after the Indian maiden not her husband.

Caleb Stevens

The cabins are amazing here for the price

Kathryn Booth

Beautiful, but some of the signs are confusing for first time visitors.

Ryan Swartout

Disk golf!!! Great party well kept very fun course also had multiple old growth groves to hang out in the shade !

Jason Lentz

Very cool museum! Lots to do here.

Caleb Russell

It is a large park for biking and hiking. It has an 18 hole disc golf course at it's center that accommodates all skill levels. There is also camping and yurt rentals available on site.

Bill Brenner

Super nice disk golf course here

Ana Rogers

This recreational area is great for any outdoor activity. They also have a disc golf course. And a couple off leash unfenced areas for the dogs.

Elana Olson

Beautiful park and gorgeous day for a quarter marathon race! We ran through the woods and the sounds and smells were wonderful! Lots of open space for kids to play/run around and decent bathrooms too.

William Hammond

Love it, well cared for, super mellow atmosphere, huge areas to let the pups run free....

Jerry Weaver

This is an hugely significate place in Oregon's history. Really terrific museum at the visitor center is a must see!

Rick and Carole Searle

We stayed in a group tent site. Unfortunately these sites are completely separate part if the park. First you have to unload your gear from the overflow parking lot, at least 100 yards from the site. Your cars have to be far away and unlike what the site rules say, RVs are not allowed. Which we we told it was ok and then six hours after setting up, told we had to move. The site does not have many level places for tents. Then there is the bathroom problem. The nearest vault toilet is 200 yards away. And the nearest flush toilets are a 10 min walk. The showers are so far away you want to drive. None of this is clear on the website so beware when booking group tent sites here.

Fran Germany-Griggs

Beautiful and diverse. Well maintIned.

Danya' z

Cabin, restroom and showers are very clean. Well-lit front porches of cabins. Be sure to have flashlight for area mid-way between restroom and cabin. Standard bunk, futon, table and chairs furnishings. Visitors transport their own garbage to a trash compactor near the entrance of the park- this area is kept very orderly and clean, as well. Park is a ways off main road. Heads-up: GPS directions from with the park seem to be disoriented.

Jerrad Bracamonte

Dan the Interpretive Ranger gave an enthralling tour on sunday and explained how the Kayapuya tribe were the original settlers and the Grand Ronde Confederation of Tribes is conducting a burn regimine to bring the land to be pre-european conditions and will implement traditional plant harvesting. We also did oreinteering through CROC.

Jim Fisher

It has something for everyone. Picking, camping, water access/sport & even museum where one can learn early oregon history as well as site significance.

Georgianna Seko

We stayed two nights at the campground. There are a lot of mature trees providing shade for the campsites. The sites are level and paved. The restrooms are clean. The campground is far from the road so it is peaceful and quiet.

Jan Cameron

Yearly camping spot! Love it. Just looking for better water access.

Nyree Vukcevic

Love the park, stay there for our family reunions, need more parking!

Phyllis Shelton

Fabulous family camping opportunities! All park staff were friendly and helpful. Love this park!

Bob Moore

Very nice site

Maren Anderson

Convenient to Portland, with wide open spaces to bike, play frisbee golf or just wander and enjoy nature. Also has an informative and engaging interpretive center. Stop by Butteville General Store for ice cream!

Amity Bacon

(I’ve only been here once and this review is 80% for the museum, 20% for the park). What a historical hidden gem! Among other things, it was fascinating to learn about the great flood of 1862 that destroyed this former pioneer town. We stumbled across a wandering docent dressed like an Amish man that told great stories about the Hudson Bay Company, what the Kalapuya Indians ate and how they carried out controlled burns in the region, etc. I also enjoyed the “pioneer garden” and strolling through an apple grove filled with antiquated varieties. Really nice that you can go for a leisurely walk along the river and see the site where pioneers voted on incorporating into the rest of America, breaking free of British rule. Would also recommend this park for easy bicycling and picnicking.

Marco Antonio Noriega

Very nice park to have a good time with friends and family

Lili Wendell

Great park for nature walks along the Willamette River, excellent historical center, you'll learn about Oregon and gardening and the many plants and animals thriving in the various terrain and waterways. Go there for solitude or group outings, you can walk, cycle, picnic, play frisbee-golf, and camp: you won't regret it!

M kinsellausa

Low cost parking ($5), interesting info on pioneering settlement of oregon. They have a restored barn from 1840's and a restored tinsmith shop with an enthusiastic guy to expain and demonstrate the 19th century artisan work.

Donald Mowers

Disapointed- we have gone rv camping here more than a few times, mostly in B loop. Friends decided to go camping there, by our recondmendation. They camped in A loop. OMG how run down it was! Grass not mowed. Some areas had weeds growing as high as you knee. Weeds in bushes at least 5' tall.... Picnic tables have rotten boards on table tops and seats. Check-in rangers are hardly ever there. I just do not understand where all of these fees are going to. Volunteers do a lot of the work there for free. But still very run down.

Cyndi Hicks Nobles

So peaceful & serene here! Right on the Willamette River & lots of space!! Makes for a nice way to spend a day or a weekend if you're a camper! Recommend getting an OR State Park Pass ($30/yr$50/2yrs) you'll have access to ALL the State Parks...sooo worth the $$!

Daniel Schoonover

Really good disc golf course. Lots of shade.

Sarah Link

This park has it all---camping, frisbee golf, group sites, and a great biking and walking path.

Sheldon Hatcher

Had a wonderful experience camping this weekend.

Huggly Baggins

Beautiful camp ground with amazing camp hosts. The interactive museum is great for kids and adults alike.

Vicki Emerson

We love this place. Excellent location and a lot of history and fun for kids.

Alexanderia Russell

It was nice, but over crowded and no septoc for RVs

James Carrick

Beautiful park right next to the Willamette river, very diverse with great amenities for camping, RVing they even have Yurts you can rent.

Ryan Heibloem

Awesome campground and a d historical area. Lots to do and see and the campground is very quiet.

Gretchen McLaurin

If they had a pool this would be the perfect spot for families. Fantastic bike paths, great playground, beautiful oak groves and the group tent sites are camping heaven. We'll return - again and again.

Randy Haug

Sweet disk golf course and camping and river access. Nice place to bring the family for a day away from the ruckus of the day to day city routine.

Mike Spalinger

I felt relaxed and accepted for once even noticed myself enjoying that

Marisol Luna

Great place to have barbeques, ride bikes, and camp.

gabriel moreno

Awesome place. So many things to do here. The museum is delightful and has some amazing history there. We are going back again very soon. The volunteer staff are kind as well.

Michael Stern

Great place for family camping, or even for just spending the day. Fun playground for the kids, nice bike trails, lots of space.

Danie Breithaupt

Perfect for low key nature adventuring. There are a lot of pathways good for biking or strollers.

David Walters

One of my favorite state parks. Got married there!

Sara Tillema

Best place for family outings, camping, fishing, etc. I love Champoeg!

J Kitchens

Great disc golf course! Good balance of distance and technical challenge. Fair amount of trees, but not overdone. Nice challenge.

Eric Bunday

We'll groomed for April. 3 different tee pad options. Nice flat course with some technical spots.

Ramvira

The paved path is a nice walk, and it was a fun surprise to find the fairy door.

Janet Black

Nice campground, but dump station out of service.

Paul Padilla

Forget about weekends. Packed. Don't even bother unless it's off season or week day. Otherwise, pretty nice. Typically $29 just for staying there with a trailer, whether or not you use hook up. Pure bs. Going to the coast where I can get the same thing for less than half.

jason fries

We love this park!!! The only thing that could make it better are more restrooms.

Randall Bowman

Time was short. Couldn't see everything. Just came up from the boat to have a picnic at the nice tables and use the bathroom and then back to the river. Nice to be able to do that.

mary rayner

This is by far my favorite camp ground. I love it here, it's beautiful and there are tons of fun things for family or individuals. If i could give it 6 stars I would.

Beth Lyons

Extensive hiking/biking/running trails, and awesome visitor center with many hands-on exhibits. The staff is super friendly and history abounds. This is a state park, so you need the day pass, but the center sells them. It's right on the Willamette with lots of camping options. Popular camping options so book early.

Steve Armistead

A lovely place. Great history, lots of good looking camp sites, even yurts! Paved bike paths all over the place.

Nate Hamilton

Great park filled with lovely riparian woods, pleasant paths/trails and rich history. Close to several major cities, so be sure to get a reservation if planning on camping.

WilliamEmil Ballew

Very beautiful. ( nice) and very helpfull park rangers. Eager to set you up for the weekend. Well kept not a lot off trash.

Rick Rose

Scenic park along the Willamette River. Grassy park areas, modern campground, and boat dock make this one of the best state parks in Oregon. Lush greenery, plenty of trees and the rolling hills of the area are beautiful. The park was clean and well kept.

Cody Lee

Fantastic disc golf course. Must play if you are in the area.

Glenn McGuirk

I stopped at the store / information center, and the people were so nice. They gave me a map told me what to look for. The park was Immaculate, wellkept and in order. I can't wait to go camping there.

Brad Lloyd

One of the best campgrounds and natural areas in the West.

McMulligan Disc Golf

The oldest disc golf course in Oregon, built in 1980. Great disc golf course. Lots of technical shots with good clear fairways underneath. Good mix of long and short holes, and alternate tee pads make this a great course for all skill levels. State parking fee is in effect

Billy Lewnes

This is a new favorite place for me. It appears to be the same for others too. Ive interacted with i believe all the rangers that work there. One is a little rough around the edges. But the other 3 were jems. There was even the cute smart ranger woman that was all of maybe 5'0". But she is super nice and i would love to spend the day hanging out with. But all the rangers were very nice and were very generous in their help. I had problems starting my rv but thank you to the patients of the rangers and the older folk that was kind enough to be understanding. I enjoyed all 5 days. See you all again. Thank you to all!!!

Sami Cregger

Fantastic party location in the Pavilion!

The Top Curtis Clan

We had a grand time. It has wonderful trails. It snowed last night and today so it was beautiful. There were some guys playing Frisbee golf even. I went to the bathroom in the night and it was so pretty with the snow coming down. It is clean and with friendly people and hosts.

Eve Welcome

The disc golf course is nice and flat. Great for beginners or more advanced players.

W Kumar

My sister choose the park for her wedding and it was an absolutely beautiful day. The park was spacious, clean, and pleasant. I highly recommend the park for a long day visit.

Phoenix Jones

Nice little park, not to far from town. Only has a few tent sites....But the frisbee golf course is pretty nice.

Loren Hammond

Aahh!! This park is doggy heaven for my two Australian Shepherd's. My girls go off leash and run to their hearts delight.

Delores Angel

Historical Park well-maintained, had a picnic and rode my bike with great friends

Bob Shetland

Only stayed one night but we love this RV Park very clean; lots of fun.

diane libs

This is a great campground! Lovely large sites, wish they could get the dump fixed though.

Bob Berrigan

Nicely maintained for the most part. The only playground for kids was really limited and the water pump (main toy there) was broken. Lots of flat hiking opportunities on both sun and shade.

Evan Schwab

If you are into cycling, this is a great place to get in a few quick miles. Out and back it is roughly 7-8 miles with very little elevation change. I do it twice on a weekly basis, which turns out to be a good workout. The site is clean and the campsites are cheap. Scenic wise, not the greatest but the crowds seem to be very minimal. I enjoy coming here

Merle Johnson

Nice and large park with plenty of

Debbie Mayberry

Stopped in to use the showers. They were clean and hot. Nice park. Seems relatively quiet. Lots of dog walkers.

Shanda Utter

Easy walk with lots of great views of the river.

Ronda Arbogast

Our top pick for a 5.3 ride.

Kelly Novellino

Beautiful campground with lots of paved trails for bike riding and a fun play area for the kids. Plenty of room at our site to enjoy the fire as well as play ball. We had a great time.

Bryan Hathhorn

Very quite park. Huge off leash dog area! Always kept nice and neat. Would have given 5 stars, but rv dump is still not up and going yet.

Rose Nute

Really nice.but long walk to restrooms from yurts

I love the park but definitely feel as though it has some type of spiritual presence.

Joyce Teninty

Great place to visit, especially for history buffs. Learn about your Oregon heritage. Nice camp ground with beautiful surroundings.

If your looking for quite with a pretty background this is your place. During my stay I had seen multiple elk roaming though the park. Planning on staying there again soon

John Salas

Great roomy hike and bike trails with plenty of benches to stop and rest as well as water restrooms and electricity. Campgrounds are great with yurts cabins tents trailer/motor home parking and pet friendly.

steven perkins

Was only there for an hour or so. What I saw for the season was beautiful, it was warm enough gone comfortable in shorts and short sleeves. The leaves were all over the ground and the breeze gently shifted them to give a soothing rustle all around us. We sat at the dock and we walked a trail. Can't wait to visit this place in the summer.

Philip Elliott

Very beautiful. I got there after the visitor center clasex (5pm). They even have bike camping and showers! There is no swimming in the lake

Angie Frazer

Great atmosphere. Fantastic state park.

Alex Wells

Day use fee is $5.00. Has overnight camping, disc golf, bike trails, a historical center with air conditioning and water fountains. River access too. Great park.

angela sandhu

Beautiful park. Had my nephews reception here.

Jenelle

Great state park to camp in, we have a 36 ft motorhome, towing a car. Very quiet. Was able to get Dish with our tailgater.

Stephanie Mansheim

Great campground with wonderful bike trails.

Ani Raven

Great state park with RV sites, tent sites, and a few cabins to rent as well. The park is located on the banks of the Willamette River, and is less than an hour's drive from most of the Portland metro area. Additionally, there are planned activities several times a day for kids and families, some historic points of interest, and some lovely bike and walking trails with view points of the river. The bathrooms and showers are very clean and well stocked. The park hosts are friendly and helpful. A great choice for a fun time camping.

Alicia B

We stayed in a yurt for 5 days, with our dog. Our experience could not have been better! Our kids had a lot of fun at the visitor center and the awesome nature play area. The volunteers and staff were super welcoming and friendly.

Marci Ruettgers

Wonderful campground, full of family friendly amenities and activities. Spacious and clean campsites, clean public restrooms and showers, and super friendly camp hosts. They even offer firewood and ice delivery! The only negative comment is that this summer (2019) their onsite sewer dump station was our of order. So definitely plan accordingly if you're in an RV or travel trailer, or try to reserve a sewer hookup site!

Tania Juarez

This was a great state park to go to I would definitely recommended. The museum is filled with great History of the state of Oregon. We also got to see the garden and the tin Smith out in the yard and we got to go on a good hike. I totally recommend the tinsmiths he was very nice and my son is studying the Pioneer days so it was great to have this exhibit. We would love to go back here and check out the camping sites.

Heather Manning

So much stuff to explore. Cabin was nice and comfy. Warm showers. Camp hosts were very nice and friendly

Robert Peterson

Clean accessible camping hiking biking disc golf

Premium Girls

Very pretty, a bit of history, great place to kayak, camp, have a cookout, or just enjoy an afternoon.

Dylan Hinson

A large park good for biking and walking. Large fields and covered picnic areas. Large areas are designated pet friendly. Great walks along the water.

John Lambert

A really cool place to camp and hike.

Myrddin Wyllt

Love the park. But two of the camp hosts were incredibly rude and aggressive to us and our friends. Not sure if we'd want to camp here again when there are so many other parks and campsites in Oregon.

Cheri Johnson

Ok walking baths. Difficult to follow map, not as much historical buildings in the park as expected.

Paul Eugene Manning

Great place to stay, just made sure you have a reservation as they fill fast and will have you rent spot for you if you don't have a reservation for that day and they're book up. Also, it can flood during long periods of rain.

jay snow

Beautiful disc golf course. Great destination for those who have and haven't been.

Sharon Zenit

Very peaceful, serene. Nice walk- and bike-path along the river. Pastoral. Good facilities.

Shsnnon DeVictoria

Enjoyed the area and camping. Bathrooms we're very clean and stocked everyday. Nice and friendly park rangers. A few loud camper families after 10pm but it was still a good experience. Thank you!!

David Salazar

Played disc golf. Nice course. Nice park.

Anne Muhler

Beautiful place to mingle with nature. RV spaces are very large, secluded with maintained shrubs, lawn and paver patio. Highly recommend!

Erick Lloyd Wayne

Very pretty park on the willamette River with campgrounds and cabins. Many open fields and large trees. Very scenic.

Skyweir Mcconn

As always a wonderful experience at the park. No matter the occasion it plays host to anybody and everybody who wants to attend. I am giving this five

lisa brodbeck

Go every year for huband's company picnic. They throw a great big party. Location overall is awesome, clean bathroom, lots to do, (horse show pits, freebie golf, lots of walking trails ect). My only complaint would be off walking paths the ground has lots of holes through out and lots of small stumps cut very low you don't see until you trip on them. For me it dosen't work well. I struggle to walk on flat ground so with all the holes and mysterious little stumps it's a huge issue for me to get around safely. Keeping up with my grandkids was physically exhausting just walking around to the differn't activity they had set up for the. For this reason I would be open to trying a new location.

Ken Gannon

Great place to play disc golf and family biking.

Ron Stout

Beautiful natural park. I have been there twice for a bike ride. Nice and peaceful!

Richard Rotgers

I absolutely love Champoeg State Park. The Rangers are attentive, polite and good at taking care of the park and the families camping and RV's to. The park is spotless, and clean. Well groomed, and family friendly. The facilities, like the showers are very clean and the water is always hot. Clean restrooms too. I recommend bringing your family for a couple days to tent csmp, RV, or a small cabin stay. Enjoy!

Karlen Kay

It's always so peaceful and relaxing. Trails and fishing and most importantly swimming. It's a great place to go for the day or the weekend.

troubling worm

My buddies and i like to disc golf here. One of my favorite places to play.

chris sternagel

Nice camping easy access to the river excellent running and biking trail

Kimberly Rose

So much fun! Great for kids and families, as well as those of us on our own!

debrah morrow

Love this state park the showers are amazing

Cinamen Christman

We camp here 2 to 3 times a year. Beautiful Park

Commander Stone

Champoeg Park is an old classic park with quite a few amenities such as a store and exhibit, a museum, campground, old historical buildings, on the Willamette river with boat dock, but most of all a huge natural space of woodlands, river side and Meadows. It's a great family place...

Clyde Clevenger

Beautiful park right on the Willamette River.

Sherry Evans

Couldn't get to water, but did have one heck of a bike ride.

Kimberlee Ray

Bicycles in. Fabulous campsite with electrical outlet

Andrew Jewell

Champoeg is a beautiful place, full of nature. Take a bike ride through the oak groves, go camping, or throw a round of disc golf. Explore the museums and learn about the historical significance of the area. Or throw a picnic and then relax by the river and read a book. There is so much to do and the park will take you multiple days to explore.

Craig Charbonneau

A great park along the Willamette River but RVs be forewarned the dump station is still out of commission so plan accordingly. Local ranger should do a better job with signage so it's obvious.

Bryan Mabe

One of the best places to enjoy the nice weather. It's sprawling and beautiful. So much green, it'll make any out of stater want to be a lifer. The grounds are well kempt and your K9 companions are welcome (with leash). There are campsites, yurts and cabins available (books up quick for the weekends). There's also a disc golf course. Enjoy the surroundings. So much to explore.

Elizabeth Rodriguez

Champoeg is beautiful and historic. It is full of life and a sense of excitement and exploration as you drive in. There is so much to see and hear. Take a few days camp out and hike their trails; play frisbee golf around their golf course; learn more history at the information center; at night huddle close and make smores with the family. Relax and replenish in Champoeg State Park you will be glad you did!
