REVIEWS OF Ainsworth State Park IN Oregon

Tyrone Phillips

Close to Portland and other gorge attractions I personally love the gorge variety of panoramic views and beautiful rock formations hiking falls and of course lots of water to play in a bucket list item for sure

Jimmy V

Host is pretty rude. Many mosquitoes at dusk. Clean facilities, with shower. Trains roll thru often, but not too loud really. Can hear 84 traffic.

Anna Jimenez

Amazing!

maryann smith

Love love love!

Jane Bushnell

Except for some road noise and occasional passing trains... loved the park. super clean showers and bathrooms! great staff as well :)

DirtyHairy Callahan

This place is absolutely beautiful but my wife and I were harassed by and employee of the Forest Service and told we weren't allowed to smoke marijuana in a national forest under any circumstances. I found this very unprofessional considering that it's not true.

Leslie Fulton

Nice campsite but trains get really loud in the middle of the night!

Sunil Kumar

Such a beautiful place. It's right between Multnomah falls and and the other trails.

Sally O'Leary

For feeling remote, a lot of traffic noise. No cell service

sluggo sluggotinfantryman

Four only because it the street from horsetail falls.

Heather Guillot

Great facility! Friendly staff! Toilet and shower building very clean and well maintained. Trains are close, but we didn't mind the noise.

Aundrea Eaton

My family is really enjoying this campground. We are using one of the pull through RV sites. It has full hookups, amazing bathroom facilities, pet friendly, the camp hosts are very nice and you cannot beat the views! 30 minutes from Portland, 2 minutes from a waterfall! Seriously, it’s great. The trains are there but in an RV they haven’t bothered us. I’m laying here as we speak listening to the forest sounds. You can hear water trickling, crickets and the occasional frogs. We stayed 4 nights and we’re looking forward to visiting again. 5/5 recommend!

Kathy Hu

The facilities were very well maintained and incredibly clean. Firewood and fire starter is available for purchase from the camp host from 4PM-8PM. The sites are meant for RVs, so it may be difficult finding space for a big tent.

Ruth Rogers

Came in late and needed a place to camp, there was a place left, so grateful to have a place to stop for the night.

Mike Hollada

Sign at entrance claimed park had vacancies...All empty Campsites said "Reserved" on the posts. Park Personnel were absent to ask about any Vacancies that existed.

Holly Hefner

Nice campground host. Pretty area with good showers

Alisha Yamashita

Beautiful park, clean bathrooms. Nice park rangers.

Barry Swatman

Nice.

Amber Taylor

Great scenery, excellent for a day trip. Starts to pick up mid morning, especially on the weekends.

Melinda Doominguez

I will ALWAYS LOVE IT HERE!!

Kathy Chapman

So beautiful!

Alex B

Some of the nicest people you will ever meet. There is a set of train tracks and you will hear them, we live next to tracks so the sounds didn't bother us much. It's a tight fit of you are in an RV no doubt about it. We slept in the back of our suv so we didn't have to worry about tents or campers. Once you get passed all that this is one of my favorite places and I wouldn't mind staying here again.

Summers Vincent

These waterfalls are spectacular! Easy gradual walk up to the bridge if you'd like but anyone can enjoy this place without a hike.

Angel Riesco

Beautiful, quiet and amazing view.

Thirumaran Koval Krishnan

Trails are not accessible

JoAnn Gillmer

Burn scared, but still spectacular

Agd's have some fun

Camp host mike was very awesome !!

John Lance

Very tight driving in and around the park for a motor home owner. Difficult to get level. We had full hook-ups but the sewer hook-ups were over-flowing. Lots of traffic from people driving in to just use the park restrooms. Park staff were nice but overly strict on the rules - in my opinion. trains were loud. Good park activities for little kids. Great location for hikers - easy to walk to the Columbia Gorge 400 Trail. Short hikes to many of the falls.

Tami Sheets

Ainsworth State Park is a great destination for a quick camping getaway from Portland. If I have the time I drive a bit farther out of town. But, this is a great place of an over night getaway. Since the entire Gorge can get so crowded I don't visit until after Labor Day. The sites are nice and the hookups dependable. The baths/showers are very well maintained. Make a Reservation, you are unlikely to get a spot with out one.

Marty Daquilante

Wonderful place

Mohammad Omar Farooq

Nice place

Nana Nash, M.A.

Amazing nature. Everyone needs to visit and appreciate our state parks. We need to keep them free and open to the public.

Julio C Olvera

This is one of those places you must visit even if you only have less than 30 minutes to spare. We were on out way to Seattle from SLC and reviews suggested you could visit this place and only add 5 minutes to your trip. We ended up adding 1 full hour to our trip and we don't regret a single second. We are definitely stopping by on our way home, again!

Son Beau

We had a back in sight B14. Not very level, train ran right behind us. Very small sight with all brambles at back, rest of area had holes in the ground and what looked like ground mud wasps, saw a few. We were supposed to stay 2 nights but got out of there the next morning. The pull in section looked a little better. Close to multnomah and bridal veil falls but not worth it.

Arlene Nesbit

Beautiful

Miranda Smoke

The park was much smaller that I anticipated but still served us well. The shower house was clean and the proximity to Multnomah Falls made this a particularly convenient place to stay.

Bee Port

Gorgeous state park. We enjoyed camping here.

Juan

Clean showers, 26$ tent camping

Hula Granma

What a surprise gem. Tourist from Hawaii on the way from Home Washington to Vegas. Would have liked to have stayed to explore.

Denise Marshall

Fairly quiet (considering the location), lots of fun hiking nearby. (Bonus for flush toilets and free showers!)

joyce marino

Centrally located in the Columbia gorge with access to much regional scenery but needs a little more TLC.

Dee Sharp

Loud here, trains and theFreeway are very close. Ipside is it's close to Hood River.

Christopher Mitchell

It's closed it all got burnt up

al phillips

Great little campground close to city. Hot showers full hook up for rv's. I camp here 4-5 times a year reservations available online but do it early fill's up fast. One of my favorite site's west end of gorge. Just across from columbia river so great fishing close.

Dale Reed

Clean and nice bathrooms. Decently sized spots. Trails are still closed from fire last year. Nice small and cozy park. They have a cool amphitheater with projector stand and power aetup.

Leisa Keep

This is a great stop over for traveling the scenic Columbia Gorge!

STEPDECK MAURI

Coming east from Portland on 84 , you blink and you will miss it. Take the next exit , go west 4 miles on highway 30 . Beautiful place. Fresh water. Amazing views.

Bob Myklebust

Nice shot right of the road. Beautiful highway and waterfalls!

Rex Strait

Ainsworth State Park camp grounds ( loved it ) Fabulous trailed off wooded area with bike and hike sites, tent sites and RV sites available right on HWY 30 and trail #400.

William Davey

Friendly hosts, clean bathrooms, pretty surroundings.

Peggy Kossler

Great place to rest quite roomy

Daniel D

It was a good hike. It was somewhat steep, so had to take a couple breaks to get to the top. Recommend about 1.5-2 bottles of water. We took one trail to get to the top. There was another trail connected to the switchbacks, however this trail was closed off due to hazardous conditions of the trail. Once you get to the top of the falls, you are able to go behind the falls in a cove. The trail continues behind the falls, but then the trail is closed off again due to hazardous conditions. So we ended up taking the same trail back.

wendy alamia

Beautiful spot easy to get to near Portland area, full hookups just kinda tight for big rvs and you do get freeway and train noise.

T 15448

Very nice park. Was noisy though, due to its location next to the highway and train line. Otherwise very nice

Diesel Wrench

Beautiful area of oregon and I totally forget that its dang near in my backyard . Almost makes u wanna become a tree hugger! (Almost) lol

David Alger

Excellent location to get to Multnomah Falls & the Columbia Gorge.

Barb Smith

We camped here for 2 nights. The sites are fine and the showers are free (and the washrooms are clean). Our host, Ginger, was friendly and helpful and there is lots to see nearby. We rode our bicycles to several waterfalls. The only reason I didn't give this campground 5 stars was the almost constant noise of trains passing by. At night it sounds like the train is right outside the tent! Otherwise, I'm a fan.

Jose Ramirez

Beautiful place

Terrell Stevens

Excellent base site for the Columbia Gorge activities...great hosts, kid friendly, showers, full hookups and easy access from the freeway.

Diane Clements

Nice campground.....

Lola Bichler

Needs more tent sites, or improved tents spaces at pull-in sites (for campers).

Maunakea Patterson

Beautiful spot,needs a lake

NOFINCLUE

Very nice campground, with facilities and the Monitors/Managers were nice and helpful

Logan Crocker

Tent camping is secluded away from the RVs. Nice trails, and friendly camp hosts. If you don't like droning highway noise in the distance, stay away. I did not mind.

Rick Brown

Great campground! It offers everything from tent sites to large pull-thru sites with full hookups. Great hiking trails to several of the Columbia Gorge falls.

Tyco Jewel

Small park but perfect access to trails to falls. Really enjoyed it when passing thru on FL to Alaska motor home trip.

TruckerGitty

Beautiful Area. Needs Semi parking!!!

Ryan Anderson

Lost a lot of luster with all the hiking trails closed due to the fire. Train noise all night. If you’re staying with kids, avoid the C-loop which is a walk-in camp site area making you haul everything in piece by piece.. with your rambunctious 2-year old. Pay the extra for a large RV spot which is also a lot closer to the bathrooms. Clean facilities, nice and helpful host, and close drive to other gorge sights.

Kacie Cook

Wish we xould get back to the trails after the devastating fire in the gorge

Christopher Adamson

The sites are great with hookups and easy to pull through. The park itself is just fine however it is very near the train tracks and trains pass loudly by 24 hours a day. Don't expect to get any sleep!

Becca R

Such a beautiful campground to stay in, just make sure you bring bug spray and some cintranella candles to get rid of mosquitoes! We stayed for the weekend and absolutely loved it! It's not to far from the city of Portland and is still open after the Eagle creek fire, YOU MUST HAVE RSVP IN ADVANCE THOUGH! there is currently no hiking in here but there are several other great places to go hiking close by. They do have friendly hosts, wood, very nice and clean bathrooms and showers!

Erick Bittner

Great place to camp unfortunate we like being by a lake, or river. Its close to portland too and it will be nuch better when the trails reopen again. The trains are a little loud but didnt bother us

Gary Medeiros

Very nice park. The only down fall was the multiple trains blowing their whistle (as they traveled) while trying to sleep (midnight, 2 a.m., 3 a.m., e.t.c).

David Hrivnak

Very nice park with reasonable pricing and clean hot showers. The location is great for many things to see and do. The only downside is one has to share the gorge with a road, an interstate and a railroad.

Peter Roed

Great stop for the night, need to come back and stay longer.

Richard Keyes

Bad place to camp

Buddy's Boss

Small. Cotton wood everywhere. Hard for allergic reasons

John Goertzen

Nice area but campsites are super close together

Reeses On Recess

Nice little park.

Vlad Novikov

Great place to visit. Really recommend.

Lindsay Parlberg

Beautiful, quiet, great location for a camping spot! Clean bathroom and shower facilities. Would recommend!

Nancyraymac

Good base camp! Good job on the forest service for planting editable native plants thru out the camp ground.

Bruce Casey

Scenery is amazing. Do the hike

Danielle Forsyth

The waterfalls are incredible!

Tim Czarkowski

You are better off asking a wet towel for information than calling the number listed. I called to ask if the trails were still open since the website said they were closed from the eagle creek fires... Since March. The human that answered the phone said they were still closed and I needed a reservation to get into the park. Strange comment since I didn't ask about camping, but I told her that there are walk up sites available and I had already talked to the reservation line. She put me on hold for 10 seconds then came back with a smart tone that yes there are walk up sites but I still need a reservation to access the park. I told her that was conflicting information and then she hung up on my face! Wow, great job! I won't be staying here for that reason.

Jonathan Owens

Decent RV camping, but far too noisy to be comfortable in a tent. Crowded, though with nice people, and the facilities are nice. Freeway and train noise a constant drone. Best used as a base for other gorge exploration.

Cassandra Rott

Peaceful and easy to find.

Edward Matthews

More of a place to crash than anything. Gives you access to the gorge hikes.

Karen Nierlich

Highly recommend the tent spaces. There are only six, so reserve early. They were nestled in the forest with a decent amount of space between them and a short walk from the car. The bathrooms are best I've seen anywhere with hot water showers. -- Tent camping in an RV space.-- If you are a light sleeper, the trains might bother you. We spent our first night in an RV space near the road side (B03; it was the last space), and the trains going by many times a night kept one of our group up. In the tent spaces, we were further away and the trees probably muffled the noise.

Lydia D

Visiting the gorge is always wonderful!

Chris Maschal

Peaceful. Friendly. Yes, trains are noisy but who doesnt like trains.

Wayne McClay

Host very friendly, quiet after dark, some train noise. Nice campground

Abbys AsskMeNot

Bugs in showers. Stuffy camp host couple. If you don't like train sounds don't stay here. Full hookups for RVs. Overall quiet park. We love the trains. Close to Portland but far enough away that traffic doesn't exist. Super close to Cascade locks.

Sine Nomine

Very quiet and well kept campground but the host, Don, is condescending and unpleasant.

L D Smith

Quiet secluded sites. Clean and well cared for.

Michael Cast

Very quiet, peaceful! Many trails one that leads to horse shoe falls which has 3 falls in all well worth the hike/walk. It's beautiful. Make reservations is a must. You can stay three weeks then gone a week then come back. Reasonable prices. Tent camping rv hook ups travel trailers welcomed as well. Well maintained and always clean. You can buy wood there and they have recycling bins. Going back this year. Middle of summer hard to get a spot. Reserve a week or two b4 going or you may not get a spot.

N8 light

What a great morning, waking up here on this holiday weekend.

Patrick Hayes

Great t.v. campsite

Koehmstedt Johnny

Relaxing. The spots are tight for 37ft unless you do pull through. Lots of trains stopping and starting all the time. Our 2 year loved the trains. Great park. No trails opened yet.

Joanne Berlin

The campground is very scenic and the trails are great. A few trails are still closed from fire though. The bathhouse showers really need heat in the mornings. I basically gave low score for showers and the constant trains.

Helen Quintanilla

Nicely laid out with clean RR & Showers and friendly informative host!

moonmom09

Beautiful place, quite. Clean bathrooms and showers.

Scott Williams

Right for longer trailers, muddy

carriage motor house steve

Nice

Rob Webb

Clean but very noisy and very small. Strongly suggest to pick a drive through site. Be warned you will hear trains all night long. Also do not use Highway 30 approach if you are bigger than a tent trailer. Road is extremely narrow. Also no pre-warning for turn into campground.

Danielle Chambers

Book your reservation. Almost always full. Camp hosts are amazing people.

Jessica Cordova

Beautiful

Wilma Oconnor

Fun fun fun

Dave Tuthill

This is a pretty nice state park, the only little downfall is the train tracks are pretty close by & sometimes around 1am, if you're a light sleeper will probably wake you, but not for too long!

Jay Bird

Have not been there yet! But have booked a spot in April,we shall see if it can hold a candle to the parks in the Ozarks? Candle, better get a thousand torches! Simply breathtaking!! And if you decide to hike to the top of the Falls, better wear some good sneakers and bring a canteen, a definite place to visit! BRYAN'S

Larry Stone

I've camped at Ainsworth at least 4 times. Love it. Unless things have changed in the last 3 years, I highly recommend it unless train rumbling and horns bother you. they don't bother me so I enjoy the park.

kimberly Suarez

Love this park! Camped in the walk in tent area! It’s a shame that we couldn’t go on any trails because of the fire! There are rangers roaming around so don’t even try to break the rules not worth 5,000 dollar fine.

Charles Baker

Nice park but some train noise. Would stay here again.

Benjamin Bakaitis

Relaxing

cat draggon

Amazing local hiking spots. Will camp here again.

Sarah Louise

Pretty waterfall. Easy access.

Janet Talbott

Great place for waterfall pictures in the Spring

John Pederson

We listened to trains most of the night.

Mark Stegemeyer

Three stars is too low for this little emerald gem, but the trains and traffic detract. This is a splendid park with "woodsy" full service RV sites, camp sites for bicyclists (lock posts), and hike in camping. All are clean and well kept, fresh bedding and fire rings. Ubiquitous hosts and staff should make you feel safe leaving camp to hike the 100s of miles of trails (closed temporarily by a wildfire) that start or intersect here. Shower and restroom facilities are ample and clean, but industrial in design. Overall, delightful... except the traffic noise from nearby I-84 and the regular trains literally a stones throw to the north.

Juan Sanchez

Good

Happy Hiker

Loud. Fire from two years ago still has many trails closed. They wrote down everyone's license twice a day. Either they are paranoid or they have problems.

Breanna Carlson

Great place to camp for a few days. Restrooms very clean and friendly staff. Also close proximity to trails and waterfalls. 30 mins to Portland.

Vitaly Kolas

Beautiful view. Definitely a must to stop if you are doing the waterfall scenic drive

Terry Reid

Great scenery nearby with hiking trails and water falls. Some sites in the Campground are little tight and a few low branches to watch out for with a big RV rig. Overall great place to stay for a night or two.

Pony Girl

Some don't like the train whistling at odd hours, we love it personally. Very clean forested park with large campsites. Full hook up sites with pull through and back in options. Flush toilets and showers that are piping hot and clean. Small park area with a swing and teatherball. Hike up/ Bike in sites and some really nice tent spots tucked up into the forest. Not a 5 star hotel, this is camping people.

alisa christensen

we loved it / perfect getaway mid week, so close 2 town / 10 minute drive to the falls, crazee beautiful / like the trains

Kenny Lowe

The trail was still very unsafe to hike but I love it

Douglas Chan-Wing

Must "go to" spot to enjoy a beautiful waterfall away from everyone

Silence Is-Foo

Cheap rates, tiny spots, train passes by frequently. But the Gorge is nice.

Jenn Cannon

Good people clean bathrooms and showers spacious camp sites!

Chris Leishman

Nice campground, but lots of noise from the nearby freeway and train line.

Benjamin Joseph

It's great to have a full-hookups state park so close to Portland's east side, but the nearby hiking trails remain closed and the train noise is an issue (though not as loud as some other locations).

Dan NoReg

Small-ish park but nice. Very clean restrooms. Friendly hosts. Careful using any B sites, as they front the train tracks which are busy at night.

randy przybyl

Beautiful campground.staff keeps the property clean. But Bathroom and showers are not together. So shower, then walk outside to go into the toilet side to brush your teeth. I thought that was odd. And if you like trains, this is a campsite for you. Every 5-10 min at daylight hours. Night time maybe once an hour.

Bev Hayes

Great place to camp

Rachel Bookless

I love state parks

John Hills

Great place to hookup with closeted married dads for a little anonymous fun In the woods

Bill cramer

Not bad for fast food

Billy Spencer

Nice place

Jessica

Absolutely beautiful

Charles Allaire

A wonderful park, well maintained. Was very relaxing and enjoyable.

David Barrick

Good trails in this area.

Dave Baker

Small campground in a great location near the waterfalls and hiking trails. The campground has flush toilets and showers. There are a few tent-only sites that are a short walk from the parking lot. Some train and interstate noise at night, but the trees help filter some of the noise out.

Delores Shelton

This park is good. As far as other campers, everyone respected Quiet hours and no trouble. You should know it is situated just above Hwy. 30 which leads to the waterfall route, including Multnomah Falls. Below the highway are the railroad tracks through the Gorge and they are very well used. Beyond the tracks is I-84. We had 3 boys with us and they didn't seem to be bothered by the noise of trains in the night. All in all, we had a good experience. Side note: The Camp Hosts were very unfriendly, didn't engage with the campers or even crack a smile.

melvin green

Nice

Miles Fulton

Don't understand how they have an average of 4.4 stars. NOISIEST Campsite we've been to all summer! If you're not in an RV you hear, and feel trains alllllll night! Also tent spots are just and RV spot so they can charge more. Not level for tents, not well managed. Great hikes and site seeing in the area but I'll never stay here again.

Laura Fish

Only stopped for the night but it was a better nice park. Hiking and biking trails are closed due to the extensive fire damage...but still a pretty spot and we will be back.

Natalie Kleinbeck

No hiking in or around campgroind at all. Otherwise Great location. Train is not to bad. Sights are not private or secluded but they are very easy to access.

Thomas Beeman

Nice place to camp. Very accessible and close to great attractions.

Rosy Zavala

Great state park! if you're looking for somewhere to get out of town for the weekend this is your spot. Fees to rent a spot are low and the staff on site was very friendly when we needed directions. The bathrooms at this location are immaculate, very clean and tidy! Campsites have fire pits and pick nick tables. If you want to bike to this location they have a camping spot just for people who peddle here

Cheryl Haverland

It has nice size sites ,hot showers, clean restrooms and the grounds are well kept. Also close to highways 84 and historical route 30 . Just minutes from the waterfalls. Beautiful area of the country. The price was very reasonable for a full hook up.

Dennis Tocol

Has separate campground for campers. There are electric and water hookups for trailers. The facility contains showers with hot water. It is also located close to the Multnomah Falls, and the Oneonta Gorge. The only downside is that the campgrounds is close to the train tracks which can wake you up in the middle of the night.

Jessica Nelson

Great place to came. Clean and family friendly. Highly recommended

Marcee Salas

We really enjoyed our stay at Ainsworth. The site was really nice. Just be aware that there are trains that pass by and they are pretty loud. We also liked that our site had a sewer hookup! We wi) be heading back to Ainsworth next summer.

Astrid Beanie

We got there without reservation and got a full hookup spot for 3 nights. People are really friendly, very clean, super good and hot showers. Great for hiking!!

Hans Vellekoop

Nice place to stay

Jim Larson

A quick ride out to visit house started with 2 ended up 8 from 3 sets of riders on Oregon scenic highway past Multnomah falls and down to Ainsworth. This route has several waterfalls and viewpoints along a winding highway of yesteryear (replaced by I-84) through the west end of the the Columbia River gorge. This highway was designed by Sam Hill also known for building a concrete castle and a replica of Stonehenge on the east end of the the gorge.
