As an historical site, this is very accessible and educational. The grounds are not particularly big, and it's very walkable. The recycled rubber padded trail is *really* easy to walk. There are informational signs, monuments, and exhibits along the way (as well as a drinking fountain / bubbler). The landscape is very pretty and... I guess I'd say "autumnal", with its tall, skinny, longleaf pines . It's even mowed in certain places. That's probably an anachronism... It's worth a weekend day's jaunt to see.

I am a travel writer for National Park Planner and I visited Moores Creek in June 2014. Located in Currie, North Carolina, about twenty miles north of Wilmington, Moores Creek National Battlefield preserves the site of an early American Revolution battlefield. An American victory, the battle on February 27, 1776, lasted only a few minutes, but it put an end to British control in North Carolina for the remainder of the war. The British soon turned their focus to stopping the rebellion in the north and didn’t renew the effort in the south until 1778, at which time they took control of Georgia and South Carolina, but never made much progress in North Carolina. The park consists of a Visitor Center where you can watch a 10-minute film on the battle and peruse exhibits and information panels in a small museum. Outside, you can tour the battlefield by walking the 1-mile History Trail. A short nature trail, the Tarheel Trail, takes visitors through a forest once dominated by longleaf pines, the source of tar and pitch used to seal ship hulls before iron boat technology came around. Walking is the only way to see the battlefield, but the trail is mostly paved and flat, so those in a wheelchair can make it around the trail. There is one short, sandy segment that having a little help wouldn’t hurt, but even solo, a person in a wheelchair can make it across this stretch of the trail. I saw the sign, fliped a u-turn and spent about an hour and a half walking the battlefield. incredible early US history an extremely nice presentation and knowledgeable staff. The park is spotless no trash no graffiti vandalism.

When you think Revolutionary War, you probably think of places like Boston and Philadelphia. North Carolina probably isn't even a blip on your radar. While looking for something to do with my dad while my mom took a rest day from vacation, I turned on our GPS to see what was around, and Moore's Creek popped up. Not knowing what it was, we decided to check it out. I was surprised to find out it was not a Civil War battlefield, but Revolutionary War. The area is quite easy to walk, and the view on the bridge over the creek makes for some nice photos. If you know nothing about this battlefield, I highly recommend the visit. Just be sure to keep an eye out for snakes!

This place was so well maintained. I learned so much on the self-guided walking tour. The person in the visitor's center was friendly and helpful. The park is a bit off the beaten path, but it's certainly worth a little side trip.

It was blazing hot and in the middle of nowhere but we made the detour at the end of our vacation so the kids could check it out. Nice trail in back of the visitors center takes you through several different areas and has nice information on the history as you go. The boardwalk through the swampy area and old earth works were neat.

I like the park but there's one thing I don't understand. I'm local to the area so I visit here all the time. There is some construction work going on for quite a while on Patriot's hall. When I say quite a while I mean YEARS! It doesn't take that long to do the work on that building. It isn't that big. The company that's doing the work has a nice little camper set up there with a grill and lounge chairs and all the amenities of home. It looks to me like they're homesteading there and letting the federal government foot the bill for their rent. It wouldn't be such a big deal if it wasn't for the amount of time they have been there. They have themselves a nice little thing going there and they are taking their sweet time! The park is all tore up now from Hurricane Florence so I guess it will be another ten years to get it fixed back up again. I would forget any long distance visits for the next 5 years!

We came the day before the reenactment, so unfortunately we missed that. But we were able to watch the film and walk the one mile trail around the battlefield. The path is wonderful - springy to the step, and the weather was wonderful. We enjoyed the stop. It took us about an hour.

The Visitor Center is small, but filled with great information regarding the battle and other events occurring during the time period. Bathrooms were clean and smelled nice. The 1 mile looped trail is a leisurely walk that is nice and quiet. Informative boards are also along the route.

This was my first time going there ..We arrived 1 hour before closing time ..The lady working inside the place was so very nice and she started us a movie which was Awesome , gave great detail and History of the location and War ..Then we walked around the trail which was full of History and yet very peaceful ..I went with my son which has Autism and don't like crowds so this place was a Plus for us ..Several monuments with details along the pathway , which was well maintained I must say ...We really enjoyed the visit and plan to return again with more time on hand ...

There is approximately a one mile walk around the battlefield on a good path with plenty of informative plaques and park benches. They have a visitors center providing more information and a video show depicting the battle. There are also restrooms and picnic tables.

Jason at the visitor center was a great guide ~ provided a lot of historical information on the events that took place! The trail is super easy to walk, full of informative posters, lovely monuments, and beautiful scenery. There is also a picnic area that's peaceful and quiet for those who bring something to eat. The bathrooms were very clean. This is a great place to visit!

Great small park. Free to visit like most national battlefields. There are plenty of trails to walk and see the sites of the Moores Creek battle. The welcome center also shows a short film teaching about the battle and its importance to our nation. Well worth a visit!

The quiet nature all around, the soft walking trail, the slow moving water in the creek, the sound of birds and frogs, the feeling of being far from the city; these are some of the reasons to visit this park. The history of this battle and how men died believing they were right makes you think about the awful, inhumane nature of man and their need for conquest and power. It is a great place to get in touch with local history and the importance of our area during the early years of development in southeastern North Carolina.

One of the smallest national parks we have been to. The visitor center has a great display explaining the battle which lasted all of 5 minutes. There is a very good movie that lasted longer than the battle! The trail to the bridge over Moore's Creek is only a 3/4 mile loop , well worth the walk.

Beautiful nature trails, famous revolutionary war battle site, historically significant to North Carolina history. Self guided tours with historical facts posted along the trails. Quiet peaceful place to walk on rubber recycled covered trails. Wooden boardwalk across Moore's Creek. You will see all types of wildlife, monuments to both sides of the battle participants: colonists (patriots) and the Loyalists (Tories) and to Pvt. Grady, the only Patriot causality of the battle. Park Rangers are very friendly and willing to take you on a personally guided your. The is no charge to visit this historic battle site. Camp sites available, no electric outlets or dumping stations. Tent camping only, except there is one site available for extended camping option if you are willing to volunteer at the Park a specific amount of hours per week.

Well known by locals, far more obscure outside North Carolina, this site is a must for those interested in Revolutionary War, and American history. Perhaps the most poignant monument about the revolution is the one placed on behalf of the loyalist forces who were defeated in this battle.
