The cleanest National Park I have ever been to! Pet friendly, free, and well maintained. I wish I knew about this sooner.
Beautiful commemorative area of an important Revolutionary battle. Very clean and well kept area. Wonderful helpful and informative staff.
Well kept. Friendly staff. Interesting and informative. Even my 7 yr old grandson enjoyed the brief history video!
Well maintained and very educational!
Nice presentation on Revolutionary War
Lots of great info on the past
As an historical site, this is very accessible and educational. The grounds are not particularly big, and it's very walkable. The recycled rubber padded trail is *really* easy to walk. There are informational signs, monuments, and exhibits along the way (as well as a drinking fountain / bubbler). The landscape is very pretty and... I guess I'd say "autumnal", with its tall, skinny, longleaf pines . It's even mowed in certain places. That's probably an anachronism... It's worth a weekend day's jaunt to see.
Scenic historic site that's immaculately kept with a fantastic staff, especially Matthew, the Park Ranger
Well laid out and interpreted.
Nice park
Very interesting. I learned a lot!
Wonderful and knowledge staff!!
Beautiful and historic National Park.
Went there for a Revolutionary War reenactment Was an amazing experience
A quick and fulfilling educational experience
Awesome
Pretty neat historical site, within close proximity to Wilmington. A small Battle, but it has an interesting story. Staff and curators at the visitor center were friendly and knowledgeable.
Nice easy walk
Beautiful area
Well worth the visit
Well preserved small site that was a vital moment in NC and American history. Well worth the visit, and as always, well done by NPS.
Beautiful setting with a great history video and walk.
Interesting and informative. Well worth the short trip from wilmington.
Great day with family.
The building was very comfortable for the season
I am a travel writer for National Park Planner and I visited Moores Creek in June 2014. Located in Currie, North Carolina, about twenty miles north of Wilmington, Moores Creek National Battlefield preserves the site of an early American Revolution battlefield. An American victory, the battle on February 27, 1776, lasted only a few minutes, but it put an end to British control in North Carolina for the remainder of the war. The British soon turned their focus to stopping the rebellion in the north and didn’t renew the effort in the south until 1778, at which time they took control of Georgia and South Carolina, but never made much progress in North Carolina. The park consists of a Visitor Center where you can watch a 10-minute film on the battle and peruse exhibits and information panels in a small museum. Outside, you can tour the battlefield by walking the 1-mile History Trail. A short nature trail, the Tarheel Trail, takes visitors through a forest once dominated by longleaf pines, the source of tar and pitch used to seal ship hulls before iron boat technology came around. Walking is the only way to see the battlefield, but the trail is mostly paved and flat, so those in a wheelchair can make it around the trail. There is one short, sandy segment that having a little help wouldn’t hurt, but even solo, a person in a wheelchair can make it across this stretch of the trail. Visit National Park Planner (npplan) for plenty of photos and complete information about Moores Creek National Battlefield.
Historic battlefield, Creek, trails and community spaces
Very interesting, small national battlefield that is well explained in display in the Visitors' Center. One to two hours max to tour.
Very good path. Visitor center closed to remodel.
Lots of fun. Had re-inactments the day we were there.
This out of the way and lesser known historical site is truly the start of The American Colonies road to Freedom and Independence. In the heart of the coastal piney woods of North Carolina. A beautiful spot with lots of history. Find out about "Mother Covington"
A beautiful place to walk around and learn the history.
Was very interesting. The weather was nice and sunny. But everything was flooded do to the recent rains. There was to be a reenactment in a week or so that would have been nice to see. But the road calls. Maybe next time
Visitors center closed on Sunday. All other facilities available. Really well maintained. Surprisingly, very few biting insects on the path. Great for older people wanting a gentle nature walk.
Go to the annual Battle reenactment on a late February (?) weekend for an awesome time!
A wonderful park. It is the smallest of our national parks, but is was very important to our history. The site is well preserved and very beautiful to visit.
Well preserved battlefield. Ranger was excellent and well informed.
I saw the sign, fliped a u-turn and spent about an hour and a half walking the battlefield. incredible early US history an extremely nice presentation and knowledgeable staff. The park is spotless no trash no graffiti vandalism.
Good place for Revolutionary war enthusiasts.
When you think Revolutionary War, you probably think of places like Boston and Philadelphia. North Carolina probably isn't even a blip on your radar. While looking for something to do with my dad while my mom took a rest day from vacation, I turned on our GPS to see what was around, and Moore's Creek popped up. Not knowing what it was, we decided to check it out. I was surprised to find out it was not a Civil War battlefield, but Revolutionary War. The area is quite easy to walk, and the view on the bridge over the creek makes for some nice photos. If you know nothing about this battlefield, I highly recommend the visit. Just be sure to keep an eye out for snakes!
This place was so well maintained. I learned so much on the self-guided walking tour. The person in the visitor's center was friendly and helpful. The park is a bit off the beaten path, but it's certainly worth a little side trip.
CLOSED Mon and Tuesdays. Don't find that out until you get there.
Wonderful place to visit. Very informative on the Revolutionary war. Great walking path. Great guided tour.
This is one of my most favorite places to visit. The history there just inspires me and makes me feel so proud to be part of the courageous efforts to move towards independence! No matter what time of year it is, visit this place, bring a picnic, and soak it in!
Great history, neat place
The park ranger was very knowledgeable and I enjoyed seeing a part of history
Nice place to bring family for a short history lesson on the revolutionary war.
Wonderful walk.
Informative, spectacular host who seemed to enjoy what he did and was also very knowledgeable, easy to follow terrain. Glad we went and plan to go again.
Very interesting. We homeschool & we really enjoyed it.
They have the cleanest bathrooms
Went here for the live reenactment for the anniversary. Such a fun and educational experience. Thank you to all the volunteers.
They really helped me understand the Revolutionary War and the making of history.
Great place to take a weekend with the family
It is a great place to go.
Good for have fun time
if you're collecting stamps you should take a drive there! not crowded and can take easy walk around - peaceful
It was blazing hot and in the middle of nowhere but we made the detour at the end of our vacation so the kids could check it out. Nice trail in back of the visitors center takes you through several different areas and has nice information on the history as you go. The boardwalk through the swampy area and old earth works were neat.
I like the park but there's one thing I don't understand. I'm local to the area so I visit here all the time. There is some construction work going on for quite a while on Patriot's hall. When I say quite a while I mean YEARS! It doesn't take that long to do the work on that building. It isn't that big. The company that's doing the work has a nice little camper set up there with a grill and lounge chairs and all the amenities of home. It looks to me like they're homesteading there and letting the federal government foot the bill for their rent. It wouldn't be such a big deal if it wasn't for the amount of time they have been there. They have themselves a nice little thing going there and they are taking their sweet time! The park is all tore up now from Hurricane Florence so I guess it will be another ten years to get it fixed back up again. I would forget any long distance visits for the next 5 years!
Great piece of our nations history, well up kept and friendly staff.
Great place to visit and learn about history.
Just be aware of the yellow flies, they attacked my family.
Great history lesson and staff was helpful
This is a great place to visit.
One of the best small National Parks that I've visited. Extremely knowledgeable ranger, quaint museum, and informative movie combined with the best maintained trail that I can recall made the trip worth it. If I lived in the area, I'd walk the path everyday.
Love going there to walk.
Great trail for walking
Great facility and knowledgeable stafg
My husband and I were down from N.H we rode our bikes here and had a wonderful day
Cool boardwalk. Small museum and park.
We came the day before the reenactment, so unfortunately we missed that. But we were able to watch the film and walk the one mile trail around the battlefield. The path is wonderful - springy to the step, and the weather was wonderful. We enjoyed the stop. It took us about an hour.
Learning in a beautiful setting...and it's full of pokestops!! :)
Great for a short history lesson for children and adults alike.
Very informative staff and film. The walk was lovely as well.
It is very calm and serene with very nice walking paths. I came for Scottish Heritage day and enjoyed the sights!
Nice place for a walk.
Nice visit but unfortunately visitor center was closed.
Very well kept and staff were working to make it better
It was cool.
Really cool historical place nice for picnics
It's a fun place to visit on a sunny day and just walk around.
Great place, so interesting. Had a wonderful time watching the reenactment and seeing how people lived back in the 1700's.
It was great and I love it
Great reenactments. Nice walking trails. Friendly staff!!
Great place to visit American Revolutionary War nice Dawson easy to walk around and read The Monuments
When you visit this site, keep in mind it is a solemn place. This was one of many battle fields that was fought for the independence of the usa
Pretty little spot that was phone to explore and learn.
The Visitor Center is small, but filled with great information regarding the battle and other events occurring during the time period. Bathrooms were clean and smelled nice. The 1 mile looped trail is a leisurely walk that is nice and quiet. Informative boards are also along the route.
Small, interesting, easily navigated Revolutionary War battlefield. You would probably spend no more than 45 minutes here.
It was neat learned a lot about history
Great place to visit. I wish our history teachers would have taken us on field trips to places like this. Very interesting and informative.
Beautifully preserved accessible American historical monument. Picnic tables. Respectfully honors brave Patriots
Great experience. Must see
If you like history then you will like this place.
We love this park. It has beautiful trails to walk and it is a very pleasant environment.
Nice place to walk, it has a padded walking trail.
Great place to take the whole family to learn about history!
CLEAN, pet and kid friendly
This was my first time going there ..We arrived 1 hour before closing time ..The lady working inside the place was so very nice and she started us a movie which was Awesome , gave great detail and History of the location and War ..Then we walked around the trail which was full of History and yet very peaceful ..I went with my son which has Autism and don't like crowds so this place was a Plus for us ..Several monuments with details along the pathway , which was well maintained I must say ...We really enjoyed the visit and plan to return again with more time on hand ...
Must visit! Staff extremely knowledgeable about the battle and it's ramifications.
Amazing walking history lesson. Make sure to go when it is dry as the creeks around the battlefield will flood blocking off some of the trails.
Small but beautiful and lots of history
Great fun for our family
Just can't get enough of this quaint little important historical spot!!
This the greatest place to take your family and usually on every 3rd Saturday starting in August till Nov is a living history event as well as some special occasions through out the year.
There is approximately a one mile walk around the battlefield on a good path with plenty of informative plaques and park benches. They have a visitors center providing more information and a video show depicting the battle. There are also restrooms and picnic tables.
Husband loved it. Dog friendly.
Good for a short stop. Visitors center manned and has stamp. Video available. Short history trail, approximately 1 mole with another trail 2/3 mile near the end. Kids Ranger program easily completed within two hours. Worth the trip, especially if on the way to/from Wilmington.
Very interesting to learn about this battlefield. Beautiful area.
Great small National Park. Goid video of it's importance in Revolutionary war.
This is a national park very well maintained and a awesome place to be with the family
Very nice museum; great program and re-enactment; knowlegable staff
Spacious, designed well, clean and well kept. Signs provided sufficient historical information and were appropriately spaced. Paths are such the families with strollers appeared to have no struggles. The picnic area was clean and campers appeared to be enjoying themselves. Would recommend visiting.
Very peaceful and exhibits and gift shop inside are cool but gift shop if fairly expensive
Good information but not a lot to see
Great historical place. Truly enjoyed.
Has interesting history great picnic area
Awesome wasn’t sure if it was going to be worth it to go because the visitors center was closed. But it turned out to be an awesome trip the trails are very well maintained and the signs are very informative.
Good place to learn about history
Jason at the visitor center was a great guide ~ provided a lot of historical information on the events that took place! The trail is super easy to walk, full of informative posters, lovely monuments, and beautiful scenery. There is also a picnic area that's peaceful and quiet for those who bring something to eat. The bathrooms were very clean. This is a great place to visit!
Great small park. Free to visit like most national battlefields. There are plenty of trails to walk and see the sites of the Moores Creek battle. The welcome center also shows a short film teaching about the battle and its importance to our nation. Well worth a visit!
The quiet nature all around, the soft walking trail, the slow moving water in the creek, the sound of birds and frogs, the feeling of being far from the city; these are some of the reasons to visit this park. The history of this battle and how men died believing they were right makes you think about the awful, inhumane nature of man and their need for conquest and power. It is a great place to get in touch with local history and the importance of our area during the early years of development in southeastern North Carolina.
Sobering and dignified
I was camping with Girl Scouts and stopped to talked to the Ranger in the store. He was great, very educated and a joy to talk to. He gave great information about the battleground. Also, my car tire went flat and the other park ranger was great and helped me. Thank you for a great experience.
Loved the walk was just the right length even in the summer heat!
"Thank you to the people who were working the day I was there to get pictures and information for my Social Studies Fair project. Especially the older Lady who was very friendly. I would like to credit said Lady for helping me receive an "A" on it because of her willingness to teach me more about it by touring me around the inside and starting up the short ten minute video. I'm only sorry I didn't say my thanks earlier."
That was a wonderful Place
Great place to walk and visit history.
Amazing place!
Loved it beautiful place
Be there for the annual reinactment of the revolutionary war!
What a wonderful pkace to visit, Anniversary ceremonies were meaningful.
Nice leisurely walk. The info center is filled with troop movement charts along with timeline of events leading up to the battle of Moore's Cheek. There also a 10min movie depicting the battle.
I am truly Proud to be apart of the history in Family of my life to be Honored with herataige of the Battlefield of Moore's Creek...
Lots of trails and history. Visitor center and air conditioned bathrooms
Very much loved the History Trail! Beautiful scenery to take in, with a very cool history story along the way. Made me appreciate my state's history and natural beauty!
Nice. But not very interesting.
Beautiful park. Stop at the visitors center to watch the film.
A must see if you're anywhere near the Wilmington area.
Awesome National Park! A Historical Gem!
Very nice. Surprisingly large. I guess hard to battle in your back yard. I've been reading and learning about Moore's Creek for three years. It is easier to understand what the Rangers are talking about.
One of the smallest national parks we have been to. The visitor center has a great display explaining the battle which lasted all of 5 minutes. There is a very good movie that lasted longer than the battle! The trail to the bridge over Moore's Creek is only a 3/4 mile loop , well worth the walk.
A lot of history in our back yard that i didnt know about i had a blast out there and tge wife and kid enjoyed it
We love this park!!
I love history so walking the grounds and seeing it now gives u a feeling of pride that it is as well maintained and preserved. Beautiful place to visit.
Beautiful nature trails, famous revolutionary war battle site, historically significant to North Carolina history. Self guided tours with historical facts posted along the trails. Quiet peaceful place to walk on rubber recycled covered trails. Wooden boardwalk across Moore's Creek. You will see all types of wildlife, monuments to both sides of the battle participants: colonists (patriots) and the Loyalists (Tories) and to Pvt. Grady, the only Patriot causality of the battle. Park Rangers are very friendly and willing to take you on a personally guided your. The is no charge to visit this historic battle site. Camp sites available, no electric outlets or dumping stations. Tent camping only, except there is one site available for extended camping option if you are willing to volunteer at the Park a specific amount of hours per week.
Interesting battle field site
The Ranger who was on duty was very nice and very knowledgeable
Great for kids park rangers where super nice.
Worth the drive if your a history buff. Would love to see during a reenactment weekend.
Wonderful place to learn about N.C. History!
Made it for a living history event, and had a great educational experience.
Great well cept and information toh understand more about the NC history!!
Wonderful place to take the family or just yourself to be surrounded by our history.
Very nice grounds, damaged some by Hurricane Matthew. Still able to walk the path and read the memorials. Whole family learned a lot and got a lot out of this experience.
Well known by locals, far more obscure outside North Carolina, this site is a must for those interested in Revolutionary War, and American history. Perhaps the most poignant monument about the revolution is the one placed on behalf of the loyalist forces who were defeated in this battle.
Lots of NC History
