This Park is classified in the category of National park.
Come prepared for a fantastic walk (on recently paved walkways!) through the forest to learn about the battle at Kings Mountain! The walk includes several "off the path" historical markers and National Park Service signage elements to help guide visitors and enthusiasts on the journey up to the monuments atop the hard-won mountain. Be sure to bring some water to keep refreshed, as the mid-summer heat can be quite draining, so stay hydrated as you hike the loop! Be sure to enjoy the Visitor Center where a small museum features artifacts from the battle, as well as a well-done documentary film about this history of this important turning poi t in the Revolutionary War. If you have questions about the site, the museum, or the history of the battle, ask the Park Rangers, they're great!
A must see and experience park. Awesome museum.
Very nice, paved 1.5 mile walk with some challenging hills, but well worth it.
This is the second time I have visited here. I have learned a lot about this battlefield. This time I brought my daughter. I got there in time to watch the total eclipse of the sun and had a great view. I will be going back as the rangers and displays were enlightening.
Everyone who lives in this area should visit this park. Important US history, plus this National Park his strikingly attractive grounds.
Nice place to take the family for a walk in the woods. In addition to the historic significance and the educational value you can learn the nmaes of the many different trees on top of this mountain. There are restrooms and picnic areas as well as an amatheater.
Lots to do really friendly people cheap to free everyone passing through should stop and visit. Amust if you love history
Took some visitors to this park. It's a great place to visit and read about the history. There is a 1.5 mile hiking loop. There are some hills up and down but it is not too strenuous. The trail is paved with asphalt and very well maintained. The trail is wheelchair accessible.
Wonderful care of natural resources. Great information of our history.
Nice hikes and trails (easy to moderate). Park Rangers ask for you to check in with them as to where you are hiking and log your info at the desk. Nice for your safety in case something were to happen.
Nice little ride from Columbia sc, if you take the back roads. Museum and gift shop. scenic trails to walk and camping with other activity's. Good place to take the kids.
Who like mcdonalds anyways?
My first tme there. A friend wanted to visit nature and see trees. And that we did. Quiet, uncrowded, comfortable path to walk on. Highly recommended for those who don't hike competitively.
It's beautiful to walk the path...the history of the place is very interesting...and the cell phone stops make it even more enjoyable.
Very interesting and educational.
Good for lite ticking. Picnics. A little history
If what happened here had a different outcome we would all have English accents. I wonder what the people that fought and died here would think about this great nation being in existence due to there actions.
I really enjoyed the film explaining the battle! There were people reenacting revolutionary times outside the National Park station. I hiked up the mountain to the beautiful monuments. There is a museum with lots of exhibits, and a diorama of the battle of Kings mountain. It was a great visit!
beautiful place great history
This is a great park and is beautiful to walk/hike through. They had some historical happenings which was cool. The bathrooms are clean. Use them before you go because there's no Porta Potties. And remember if the trail you're taking says 4 miles... It's 4 miles there but 8 miles round trip...FYI. Bring water. The visitor center is museum-like and well kept. You should visit and if you didn't know about this battle, it's good information and brings meaning and thought while hiking the trails...knowing what happened there where you're walking.
Very nice walking trail. The trail was paved and you can learn about the history of the battle on your phone.
This is amazing!!! Wheelchair accessible trails, who ever heard of that! This is the perfect trail for families because the trails are paved with rubber to keep foot ache at bay and you can push a stroller very easily!! A billion stars!!
The park was beautiful with a short 1.5 mile hike. There was a great video that helped us to understand what happened on that sight. But the two rangers that were there were both rude and belittling. We have a National Parks passport book. We get it stamped to check off the ones we’ve seen. He was making fun of me for wanting to get it stamped. She was belligerent about the stickers that I had filled my book with before I had seen them all. I’m pretty sure I can do it however I want and she can do the same. You don’t need to belittle the people who are coming to learn the history of your sight.
Fascinating and informative site. Wife has ancestor who fought there. Excellent interpretation and orientation film.
One of the best
I love walked this hollowed ground.
Very nice place to visit- lots of trails to discover
Very comfortable trails to walk!
Had a great visit today. Ranger Lamar Tate was wonderful, & full of so much local area knowledge.
Fantastic park! The museum is set up very nicely - probably one of the best I've seen at any of the NPS sites. Between the exhibits and the movie, you get an excellent overview of the events that led to the battle, the battle itself, and the aftermath-- I came away with a much better understanding of why it was an important event during the war.
I love going out here walking the trail and just being out in nature very clean and if u need help u can always ask someome
Beautiful snow in KMSP Driving under a fallen pine.
Nice place to visit, it is wheel chair assessable, one blacktop walking trail (1.5 miles), while others are regular walking trails.
Best movie yet.
Love the new trail. It's so much nicer!
Nice park, and we've been to a lot. The main path was well-paved and had frequent benches along the way. While the grades along it are as gentle as they could be made on a mountain, anyone in or with a wheelchair should be very aware. The docent was incredibly knowledgeable and helpful.
Great campground. Showers and facilities were great!
The trail path is coated with shredded rubber and is very comfortable to walk on
Great visitors center and museum. Be sure to follow the signs for the trail as it makes very little sense if you go backwards. Easy and informative hike.
Paved trail family fun close at 6pm
Great for short hiking, 1.5 miles, well paved trail.
Had a wonderful time primitive camping for two nights here. Hiking to the museum was fun. A great place to visit with or without kids.
This was my husband's first time to The National Military Park (I've come every few years since I was in grade school) and he absolutely loved it! He's already making plans for us to come back!
Love the hiking trails.
A great park full of history. I just wish they would extend the hours.
Awesome park, and great history lessons to be learned here. Turning point of the American revolution!
Love all the historic. Place.
Great place to walk around with the kids or just a date with the Mrs. Very informative site involving the revolutionary war. One of my top places to visit in the area
Good place for exercise and see where a pivotal battle of the American revolution took place
Cold, bottled water vending machines $1
It was a great experience I loved it
Great Revolutionary War site with a wonderful museum with interactive stations and a 25 minute historical film. Great 1.5 mile hike (quite hilly) passing several historical markers through beautiful forest. A great visit.
Great place to get out on the lake walk trails and camp,or just to have a picnic Learn history too.Me and my husband love to ride the motorcycle up there.
Visited the day after the park reopened after government shutdown. Excellent video presentation of the historic significance of this Revolutionary war site. Park ranger was very engaging, knowledgeable and answered all our questions. We walked the trail, read each sign and visited each monument. What a lovely morning! We are so thankful for our brave and courageous forefathers who fought for our freedom with resolve and at great cost to themselves and their families!
Great hike while learning history!
Really informative park with a nice walking trail, a good museum and a short movie about the battle. I'm not a huge early American war history fan, but I found this place to be really interesting.. Learned a lot about a very important battle I had never heard of.
The trailer park is well maintained and there posts that describes about the history of the spot and we were able to dial to a number they gave us had a guided tour
Great place for the whole family
If you want to experience the history of civil war in person you must visit this place. You may feel that woods are taking to you. Otherwise you may like this place for little hiking.
Love this place beautiful
The trails here are very nice, great paved for wheelchair access with beautiful views
Very nice environment. The hike is short but fun and the history is moving. Very well maintained and very friendly staff.
Interesting history of the battle. Rangers are extremely friendly and helpful
Very nice place with tons of information and activities
A beautiful park, with rich history. My favorite was the lush forestry & cute little streams.
All the gates were closed due to the Schumer shutdown of gov't . The place is nice but our border security is more important!
Nice park, 20 minute video, 1.5 mile walk of battlefield. Other hiking trails.
Paved hike along the battlegrounds and gravesites. Very interesting and a good talk by era dressed militia.
Lots of history and my dog likes the walk
Great park, and great Rangers! We had a great time there, but really wish that other visitors would treat our (literally, collectively "ours") with the dignity and respect that they deserve. There are plenty of trash cans and receptacles, but people throw their water bottles in the woods and graffiti the signage. Sad about that stuff.
The NPS does a good job detailing the story behind the battle and what led up to the engagement. But where the strongest marks come is actually walking the battlefield and the many trails around Kings Mountain; one can almost feel the wild frontier. I think here more than most battles we understand the influence of the frontier Militias in winning our independence.
Well worth the 2 hour stop. Watch the short movie inside before the mile loop hike, restores the inner sense of patriotism in every American, history of how America came together will never bore me.
Very well maintained public park. Knowledgeable staff.
Historic site worthy of a visit by all Americans who have time to do so.
Great park and history. Good interpretation of the battle.
Very good reinacted history. Great for kids
Knowledgeable staff. Liked it a lot.
Check with the visitors center for the time the gates get locked. Google is NOT correct and they will lock you in and leave you a note about getting fined. OUCH!
Awesome hiking trails. Well kept trails
Great place for a day hike with my father. The weapon demonstration and reenactments we're very informative!
It has horseback riding picnic area wildlife Scenic roads great place to take your family, and Friends and there's even overnight accommodations.
Amazing place. Paved trails take you around the entire area where it all went down. Lots of very important history and things to see. If you look around a bit there are some old dead trees that are still standing that have bullet holes in them where one of the more significant figures passed
Incredible video and a great hike around the battlefield. A really neat and important part of history not well taught in school.
As someone who loves history this place was a small gem to find. I really enjoyed the video of the history of Kingsmoutain, history and the overmoutain men. This ishistoru that I don't remember hearing anything about in school.
There is a paved walking trail with things to read about revolutionary war history. Monuments along the way, and a visitors center with a bit of a museum. There is a video presentation about the importance on the battle of Kings Mountain. I learned some stuff and had fun!
Nice nature walk along the way.
We visited Kings Mountain National Military Park while camping at the state park over Memorial Day weekend. Military through the Ages event was going on for the holiday weekend. We didn't catch the reenactments, but there were a lot of exhibits on wars throughout American history. It was a lot of fun talking to the folks from different wars and a great learning experience. We saw military rations and parachutes from World War 2, medical devices and remedies from the 18th century, and learned how different weapons worked. We also hiked the 16 mile Kings Mountain Trail that connects the national and State Park. Overall, a great place to learn about history and enjoy nature.
Very nice, great history too. Do the Trail.
Love Kings Mountain. I've been going there since I was a little kid.
Not a good day to visit, very busy and a lot of walking which was hard to do with one of us having a disability. A good place to learn about the war. Peaceful and beautiful.
A hidden gem - everyone in Charlotte should go. Fantastic visitor center/museum complete with movie, which is a must -do. Then take the actual trail described and relive the battle from station to station till you reach the summit. Well maintained, with rangers and docents available for questions. Wonderful job by the park service. Perfect for a beautiful day.
I feel like I know more about the history of the war. my daughters liked the scenery. I went backwards on the trail which is where the hills are first.
Great park with lots of hiking trails. Trails are all well maintained with short options for kids or long loops to trail run.
I've this place. My husband is into genealogy. We found his Ancestors grave from the Revolutionary War. Hope to visit again
Great place to learn history.
This is an awesome place to visit with alot of history. It has a couple of lakes and a few campgrounds. Has plenty of walking trails. Also has trails for horseback riding. It has a place that tells the history of the battle at kings mountain. Also has a gift shop that sells historical items and books. Been going here since I was a kid and enjoy going everytime I go.
Used as a starting point for a rainy gravel ride. Worked great. There's even facilities for changing and such if you bring extra clothes. National park butts up to state park. Most service roads closed to bikes though.
Excellent visit! Rangers were very informative and friendly. Interesting history and lovely natural setting
We make a couple of trips thru there each year the family loves it
If you're coming for a hike through mountains, I would go to crowded. If you're looking for a beautiful stroll with way less people this is for you. $2 parking fee, make sure you take a bathroom break before you get to the main trail head. The trails are beautiful, well marked, and most have cross sections to be ad long or as short as you would need
This is an amazing place to live American history. The rubberized 1 1/2 mile trail through the battlefield can be handled by young children, seniors, and wheelchairs, with some help on hill. The facts are well explained on the trail as well as the museum. On my fist visit I was quite presently surprised. This was the true turning point of the American Revolution - right here on these grounds!
good place to stretch your legs. nice trail.
Informative, nice trail. Enjoyed
An amazing and engaging walk with well-presented Revolutionary War information at regular intervals. The main trail is about 1.5 miles but it's well paved and fairly moderate. The display boards describe the movement of troops across the landscape and often include quotes from people at the actual battle. The visitor's center is engaging as well and the rangers that we interacted with were extremely friendly and knowledgeable. As a family we've done almost 40 state parks and a handful of national parks, and this quickly became one of our favorites. Can't wait to visit again.
Well preserved historical site with 1.5 miles of trail surrounding and going through the battefield. 10/10 would go again
Went on a tour with one of the rangers. He was very knowledgeable about the history of the park, which was something I found very helpful. Awesome job with the improved paths. The gift shop could use something more, but the mini theater is great. Parking is great, and it will work well for large vehicles, there is a separate entry and exit in a loop. Pulling through will be a piece of cake. Tour bus (very large) made it easily.
Nice hike and history lesson.
What a Beautiful Park with lots of History
This is a great park!! My family has been here several times. We always enjoy the walk. An amazing part of the Revolutionary War happened here. Worth a visit.
Great little hike
Clean park, nice museum, great staff!
Nice park. The museum is small but very well curated and presented, so worth it
Wonderfully informative hike back in time. Never knew the role Kings Mountain played in the 1781 battle.
Great short (6 miles=3miles each way) trails! A little bit of topography which was refreshingly nice. The trails are also super marked! Won't get lost out there, that's for sure. The staff at the visitor center is super nice, bathrooms are nice and clean. AND the museum is super cool! Came here for my Wildland Firefighter Course and just had to come back!
Returned after the shut down to see the museum and programs. Well done
Nice walking trails. Good place to learn history and it's free.
This park is a local and national historical treasure. Reenactments are held on certain dates and an annual commemoration of the battle as well. The main trail has a paved path and other trails go out into other areas of the park. There is an excellent movie telling of the battle. The staff is well informed and love to tell the stories of those involved in this Revolutionary War site. Additional materials are available.
Good place to take the family. We went on Memorial Day, and there was almost nobody there! Very quiet, relaxing, and well-maintained. Nice restroom facilities, and lots of low-key family activities.
I love history and I love this park. I am originally from Saratoga NY which has a lot of Revolutionary War history. I am so glad I can learn more about our American history and the Patriots that fought for our freedom, which so many people these days have forgotten. My seven year old my mother and I walked the 1.5 mile trail. My son ran to each plaque to read them. We watched a weapons demonstration and my son got to take part in a militia drill. We will be back!
Great place to see our country's history. Must see place for all ages!
Love the paved walking trail if you haven't read the history parts it's definitely worth stopping for those as well.
Really nice paved walking trails with a lot to learn of early American History.. Also has small but nice museum area indoors..Also a couple interesting war memorials to view on walking trails..
Nice trail to walk, monuments and historic info.
Anniversary weekend was awesome! Encampment and weapons demonstration!
A great place to learn about history and enjoy nature. Trail is nice and on a paved path. It's a moderate hike of about 1.5 miles. There is no fee to visit the Park. Definitely recommend visiting in peak fall
Great place to visit and get a little fresh air. Also a lot of History here to learn about. Beautiful place. Wear your walking shoes.
Beautiful Wear good walking shoes. Nice 1 1\2 mile. Walk Information very informative
A great place to learn about the Revolutionary War.
Important historical site
Clean and well maintained. Nice walk on trail. Brief but informative movie. Highly recommended.
Great staff! Beautiful park!
Very well done, but make sure you are in shape. 1 mile interpretive loop with cell phone audio.
Lots of wildlife with no worries at all but an acasional horn blow....highly recommend
Wonderful visitors center with film and exhibits. Wonderful 1.5 mile paved path through the battlefield and by several significant monuments.
Beautiful trail!! Paved the entire length with a few spots to venture off. About 200ft of elevation change which is a nice change from a flat park. We had our 2 year old with us and were able to take a stroller on the trail, such a blessing. There are benches for a short break every 200-400ft to make the trail do-able for any age. Informational plots along the trail to allow for appreciation of the grounds. Everything was well kept and maintained.
Good historical place
So peaceful.
Awesome park to learn some new facts about the Revolutionary Way. The trail is fantastic and there are lots of benches to sit and enjoy the view.
Beautiful walk through the woods, moving tribute to a pivotal battle in the history of our country. Definitely a great place to visit.
Great trail too walk around the battle site. Good visitor center with bathroom. Nice museum and video about the battle.
Love the place
Having studied about King's Mountain in school, I was happy to walk the actual site. The museum is small but has a nice selection of artifacts. The trail has some poignant sections. Ferguson's grave marker and the site where he fell are marked. The monument at the top of the key point of the battle is impressively tall and has a selection of information of key players and battle details.
A real honor to American heroes.
Very beautiful place lots of history behind this place my husband's ancestor fought in this battle and won! Highly recommend!
Very clean park. Great trails to go for a jog on and enjoy beautiful nature. Also, learn a bit of history while do it.
Very impressive, esp after reading about it for years.
A well preserved battlefield that is respectful of the fact that people paid the ultimate price for freedom. There aren't fortifications, but that wasn't the nature of the battle anyway. It was a viscous but short battle. There's a video nicely describing the battle, a nice bookstore, and nice paths too walk the battlefield. The path does take you to the top of a mountain, so be prepared for some exercise.
Wonderful historic site and walking
Kings mountain is a great place to learn about this revolutionary battle, and It's only a 40 min drive from Charlotte. The staff is very knowledgeable about the battle and very helpful with what areas to see. They have good indoor exhibits that give a good description of the life, the events and the battle it's self. There is a nice display that lights up the different parts of the battlefield as the timeline is narrated. There is a 1.5 mile trail around the battlefield that is made of recycled rubber, and easy to walk on. They have a guided tour that you dial into from the cell phone, and multiple displays around the trail. The site is well maintained and a beautiful walk. Great place to learn about a key part of American history!
Very nice and clean memorable place
Excellent park and great place to educate people on American Revolution. On weekends there are reenactors. The movie is a great history lesson on the turning point. Of the America' fight for independance
Great historical site. Loved all the information, very nice walking path.
I think it is a great experience to get to visit places like the military park. The place where great men fought and died to give us the freedom that we enjoy today as free American. I'm proud and salute the brave men and women that gave the ultimate sacrifice. For no man has greater love than those that shed their blood and give their life for his fellow men. God bless the USA. David Vazquez
Beautiful National military historical Park that you can walk all around on a beautiful paved pathway. Make your first stop the visitor center and do the movie it will make everything make sense.
Great park and history
An amazing park, with a beautiful hike. Mass amounts of history! Definitely a must see.
Very hot day but they got the place clean an its friendly
Love love this place, it's always a pleasure to go there for any occasion. Staff is very friendly and help.
