Beautiful park with great amenities. I came here on a quick camping trip. Staff was extremely helpful with directions. The hosts were very attentive and had firewood. Campsites were clean. I took the summit trail which is right next to the 1-16 campsites. Trails are well maintained and clearly marked. If you like to hike or just looking to do some camping in the tri state area I would recommend hanging rock

This park has a great campground and nice hiking trails. If you can camp and watch a moonrise from hanging rock I highly recommend it. Also, there are nice hiking trails to the waterfalls that are often overlooked by most people.

Oh my, I am still tired from the 1.3 mile hike up on the Hanging Rock trail. And then 1.3 miles downward. Beautiful place, beautiful scenery, totally majestic. Great hiking fun for the family.

The trails are great! The waterfalls also add a lot of beauty to the hikes. The staff are all so kind as well. Really enjoyed having a family cookout at one of their picnic areas. Highly recommend visiting this gorgeous place!

Love this place. There are signs that guide you everywhere. Trails are easy to follow. The hikes are a great workout. I didn’t swim in the lake, but I loved the scenery at the top of hanging rock and at the falls.

Simply loved the trail walk to the hanging rock. Took us about 45 minutes to get there. Went with our two daughters, aged 10 and 7. Quite steep in certain areas. Even got to see a copperhead snake on the trail on our way down as well as a deer.

Hanging Rock is my neighborhood state park so I may be a little biased, but it is my favorite state park of the lots (not all) that I have visited. So many trails of varying lengths and difficulty, several beautiful waterfalls, most of which you can play in or around, breathtaking views, camping, fishing, seasonal swimming in a mountain lake, canoeing and just straight up enjoying nature! While summer is a great time to visit, I enjoy the peace and solitude that comes with hiking here in the winter. Every season is amazing.

Absolutely stunning. Wouldn't recommend the Hanging Rock trail for little ones, but there are many short hikes to waterfalls that younger children would enjoy. You can even play in the water!

This is a favorite of our friends and family... from challenging hikes to places that the kids can splash and play.... we never have a dull time. There is decent fishing at the lake. The campsites are well maintained and work whether you do the tent thing, or the RV.

The swimming area is nice and my family enjoys the area. The hiking trails are beautiful and very challenging. The fishing SUCKS! There are too many trees giving little area to fish from the bank. And the few spots that are open has a lot of seaweed. Be prepared for snags.

Has a wide variety of trails, with different difficulties. I appreciate the fact that the trails have a bunch of environments and views. The 1.6 mile trail to hanging rock is very crowded, so do that one first. Once you get off that trail, the crowds thin out quickly. The waterfalls are a nice walk too, and very pretty. Would like to come back and hike again.

Easy drive from Winston Salem with lots of trails for all skill levels. The park is well kept and also features a beach on the lake if you're up for a swim.

The climb to this spot from the parking lot of the park is not for the faint of heart. But the view is priceless. If you plan on going, wear a good pair or climbing shoes or sneakers with a hard sole. The walk along the path is steep at times, but there are benches along the way. The final climb is a little hard, be careful where you step. There are many rocks with sharp edges along the final climb.

Had a blast here a couple of weeks ago. Grabbed some friends and headed to the Lower Cascades for the day. From the drive, to the falls, we had a great time. It was just before Memorial Day, so we beat the mayhem that ensues afterwards... Hahaaa, this is a great spot, so lots of people enjoy it in the heat of summer. I'd say it is best enjoyed in the spring or fall. Less people and if you're like me, you can swim any time of year. :-) We had such a great time i failed to get a single picture of the actual waterfall. Just goes to show we were lost in the beauty. Photos attached are the trail leading to the falls. Enjoy! I love the faces you can see in the rock ledges. Definitely worth the trip and the hike back up those steps. You'll feel it, but you won't regret it.

Adventures into Distraction

Always a pleasant trip to Hanging Rock State Park! Even if you don’t take the longer trek up the mountain, there are plenty of short trails with nice, rewarding views of the waterfalls. There is also a lake for swimming and fishing. This place is truly the crown of Stokes County, North Carolina. Plenty of parking is available. Leashed dogs are allowed on all the trails- just be careful on those rock steps.

Fun for the family outside. Was not aware there was a charge to go swimming until we got there. However if you hike to the waterfalls, that's free. There is a waterfall 0.2 mi away from the visitor center.

One heck of an adventure! I loved hiking through the trails and seeing the waterfalls. The view at the top is just breathtaking! The reason why this place gets a four-star is because its campground doesn't have a shower and the bathroom we got was old, dirty, and scary. I will camp here again, but I need to be cautious about the bathrooms.

Visited hidden and window waterfalls. Not much water to call it as waterfall but if you are someone who like to hike and burn calories, you can try this short hike. Hanging rock trial is around 1.2 miles each way with much elevation but view from top are just awesome. Have cap, goggles, water packed and dont carry heavy luggage as you will easily get tired by the time you reach top. Coming back will be far easy which took around 30 mins as its pretty slope.

Hanging rock is beautiful! The waterfalls are lovely. We were only able to walk 2 trails but they were beautiful. Being in nature is so soothing and calming. They have picnic tables, grills, sell arts and crafts, lake for fishing, if you choose, etc. We got there early in the morning and were able to beat the rush.

Definitely loved hiking to the top what a breathtaking view! The hike is 1.3 miles up and the section that is stairs definitely takes some work! But the work is worth the reward. Definitely provides some panorama views once you reach the top. I would highly recommend going on a day that is not too warm so you can enjoy it more

Perfect place to enjoy nature. The trails are very easy and short distances. Kids and dogs are more than welcome here. They will enjoy the trip very much. The Hanging Rock Trail is 1mile long and the views from the top are totally worth it. The Waterfall Trial is very short, but also very beautiful too. I hardly recommend this place for all the nature lovers like me

A very well maintained state park Trails are well marked. Staff are friendly and attentive. The hike is a moderate and rewarding one. The view is breath taking. Not so crowded when we came after the rain. Lots of short and enjoyable waterfalls trail too. Picnic spots and shelter. They have water fountains for you and your fur friend. Nice size lake to swim and and campground. Highly recommend to bring your family for a whole day of adventures and reconnecting with nature.

Fantastic place to spend a day, or a weekend! There are several hikes throughout the park, some of them to waterfalls, and each to a view which will take your breath away. There is a campground (no power or sewer hook-ups for an RV) but at a reasonable rate that can't be beat. The lake at the top of the park is good for a walk around. Picnic areas are all over the place, and many offer grills for cooking on-site. The best part of all though? The hike up to an amazing view ON Hanging Rock. A MUST-SEE!

Hanging rock is a great place for a little adventure. Great for a nice hike. There are short trails and long difficult trails. The lake is awesome. There is fishing and swimming. Good for a day trip or camp and enjoy all the amenities, as well as sites as nd fun outside of the park. Float down the river, go a short distance to the Blue Ridge Parkway, play a round of golf, site see, or enjoy one of the many other outdoor activities.

Hanging Rock is one of the best state parks in NC for hiking. There are tons of trails with amazing views. I visited the park today for the first time after 15+ years and it was just as I remembered. We hiked the tough 2.6 mile Hanging Rock trail (btw is much harder than I remembered) then we swam in the lake and jumped off the diving platform to cool off. I LOVE HANGING ROCK

Only gave this 3 stars because WE chose the wrong day to attend....Memoral Day. We only experienced the swimming beach area. The "sand beach" is actually a dirt beach, but that was okay. We had to wait 20 minutes to get a wristband and pay to get into the beach area. They had adequate life guards and we didn't see anyone being "rowdy". We found parking easy enough. We will go back on another week day to hike the trails.

Went with a few of my Curves Circuit fitness comrades. 2 hr drive. Lovely area. Bet it's beautiful in the fall. Picnic area right off main parking lot. Map shows which trails r easy, moderate or strenuous. We took 2 moderate and 1 easy to see 3 waterfalls. Actually climbed up one waterfall so we could say "Curves Strong, we did it"! It wasnt easy and quite slippery in spots. We did see a lady take a fall and hit her mouth so be extra cautious! Lots of stairs to climb down and back up! My legs got a great workout!

Large number of trails in good condition. One of the two closest areas for mountain hiking to the Triangle. Lots of people in the first mile of the visitor center, but handled pretty well. Further out, the trails just have normal traffic.

Amazing views out in these Carolina mountains, been here about a dozen times. There's also a short and simple chimney climb, as long as you can scissor climb, you'll be fine.. been doing on every visit since I was nine. Folks are friendly and the staff are understanding, I would highly recommend for anyone and everyone ❤

Great park with incredible nature sights. We were there on a day with a farmers market which was an unexpected bonus. Do pack water and snacks as you will need both. Also great trails for medium and large dogs - bring water for them too.

Beautiful water fall and the view. They do have a small lake side beach where you can swim and do little extra. Don’t forget to bring comfortable clothes if you wanna hike here. It is worthwhile kayaking at the lake. Just make sure you carry your gears for kayaking- renting a kayak is I think $10 bucks.

We had an amazing time. We hiked up the hanging rock trail with an eight year old child and a six year old child. They both handled it well. There are many stairs and you climb over lots of rocks so make sure.you have hikers with good traction so you don't slip. The view from the top is totally worth it.

A secret that not many know, it is a very well maintained and pristine woods state park. Nice way to spend a day at beach(artificial with sand etc), canoeing, trails, mountain climbing, and waterfalls. Perfect for budding families as it is alcohol free environment and great snack bar service. Get your lunch packed and you can easily spend till the end.

Beautiful park with a variety of stunning waterfalls and lots of trails with spectacular views. Some of which are moderately easy and others are quite challenging. Weekends are extremely busy, so I prefer to go on weekdays and off-season.

Beautiful location. We hiked the hanging rock trail with our dog. It was a nice and moderate hike with some steep climbs and stairs. I would highly reccomend wearing sneakers or hiking boots as there are some loose gravel sections that would be difficult without them. Also, it is a fairly difficult hike towards the top, proper hiking attire is a must. The views are beautiful and well worth the hike to the top.

The park is beautiful and has several trails to pick from. We used to love to come on the weekends and camp, but for the past couple of years it has become impossible to just go get a site. Now you have to make reservations WEEKS in advance. We still come for day hikes on the weekend.

Great place to visit, enjoy, and unwind! Anytime you can get close to nature, it is great thing. There are some really nice trails to hike through, and some very nice natural features such as waterfalls. If you are agile you can try the abundant rock climbing features. If you want to spend more time taking it all in, then camp in your tent, trailer/RV, or a cabin. This is a very nice part of North Carolina that is worth visiting.

Excellent camping ground with usual facilities. I was out there with my family including a 4yrs and we were camping out for the first time. It was a great experience at the end and will surely be back again soon. The place was clean and spacious enough to accommodate 2 small families or a big one. The tenting place was also clean and adequate, property organized. Highly recommended.

It has a beach, lake with crystal clear water, family friendly hiking, couple of beautiful picture perfect waterfalls where one can spend a long time with family. What else do you need for a day out. In addition it has camping, hiking and boating opportunities. It also has very well maintained shelters and restrooms. It is one of the must visit attractions in North Carolina.

Incredibly commercialized hiking and walking spot. Love what they’ve done with the park but I just wish it wasn’t so crowded. A lot of paved paths, laid down gravel, and carved steps have taken the wilderness aspect out of the popular hikes here. Otherwise, it’s a great deal of exercise for a 3 mile round trip hike and the views are pretty amazing.

Beautiful setting and well maintained trails. Be sure to read description of trail before attempting ... Some are not for elderly or out of shape individuals! Take your time and enjoy what nature has provided!

The views are absolutely gorgeous. The hiking trails are fun. The lake view is beautiful. There are several waterfalls around this place as well. The welcome center staff is very helpful.

Awesome! So much to see, plenty to do. Lots of hiking, but if that is not your thing, the two biggest falls are less than a half mile each to get to.
