REVIEWS OF Guilford Courthouse National Military Park IN North Carolina

Jonathan Fletcher

This is a huge place with lots of history, learning, and recreation opportunity. I didn't even scratch the surface of the park but learned a lot and enjoyed my brief stop there. The signers monument is humbling and a great tribute to some of America's heroes. The visitors center staff are knowledgeable and friendly. I look forward to coming back for more!

Robert Williams Jr

Nice park and enjoyable ... And history.. Of Guilford County...

Nicholas Zamboni

Really great place to walk your dog, have a picnic, go for a run, or just chill. Lot's of people come here so it can be a little busy but for the most part it is very peaceful and beautiful. It is absolutely one of my favorite places to spend some alone time in Greensboro.

Kenneth Lewis

If you have kids, a cool place to let them run around in the midst of a city. The paths are straightforward, easy to follow. Even without kids, however, this is a soothing stop in-between tourist sites to decompress. I enjoyed watching the ducks

Rebecca Oseguera

Very informative exhibits that bring the history to life. Plus the docent was able to explain something better than most books because he has read extensively on the battle.

Aarti Bhati

It's big park, if you want to walk/jog long or do cycling.. Great place

Dominic Mercurio

A fantastic site, with extremely knowledgeable and engaging tour guides. Plus, beautiful walking/biking trails.

Nicholas Lynch-Voris

An amazing park to walk around, very clean, well kept, and has both public and private spaces, and just a great environment.

Roy Fetzer

Revolutionary war reenactment was just wonderful. A very nice place with a lot of history

Kara Archer

I love this place. The woods, the birds chirping, the well kept roads to walk on. This park is my favorite place to go in Guilford County. I love the serenity and peacefulness I feel when I take a long walk. It goes on for miles and miles and you can get lost if not careful. It truly is a beautiful place.

Nathan Miller

I've been here a couple times now, separated by many years, and have loved it both times. It is great to learn the history of what it took to secure our freedoms in the US and to learn of those that gave their lives for the cause. Highly recommended that you walk the loop and learn how the battle unfolded.

LeCyle Harris

Good video of the battle to watch.

Katie Perez

Beautiful park, well designed and maintained paths. Great for outdoor running or just a stroll enjoying outdoors. Interesting statues and plenty of benches along the way. There's a lake and lovely picnic spots, as well as playground equipment. Really pretty area, and feels very safe.

Kiel Johnson

Absolutely incredible military park. There is not alot to see here without a tour but the staff make the experience worth the visit.

Tiffany Jones

I love walking here because it is so peaceful and there are many different trails to follow if you dont want to stay on the main one !

Stephen Filyaw

Take a walk through the woods and imagine the historic battle as patriots fought for the freedom of our nation. Read the markers along the way. Beautiful walk and educational.

William Annen

Exceptional statues and a safe beautiful 2.2 mile ish walk on one side. The other side has nice water areas to circumnavigate.

Dan Walbridge

I am not sure that the populous of Greensboro truly appreciates what an incredible treasure they have in the Guilford Courthouse Battleground. This is an oasis in the middle of an asphalt jungle. A great place to get away and enjoy the outdoors and maybe even learn a little history. GCB plays just as important part of American history as any other military engagement has. We’re just numb to it because we live next door to it. And every season shows a different face of Mother Nature. I love this place.

Dave Vanslee

Great Revolutionary war history in NC

Sharon Webb

I love the area. Always nice walking on solid trails

Nathan Ross

A pivotal battle site in the Revolutionary war. A walk in this park is a wonderfully unique experience.

Humphrey

100% free and very informative for any age about the history of NC

Ka T Ng

This place is nice especially during Spring/Summer time. It's a long walk to go around the entire park but there's little pieces of history all throughout. It's nothing like the central park but should definitely visit if you just want a nice walk and relax. Can even have a nice picnic!

Audra Harrison

An amzing park for bikers runners walkers or folks wanting to learn the history of the area

Randy Wilson

Love running the trails here. Nice historic area that is super quiet.

Tim Terry

The city of Greensboro is named after Revolutionary War General Nathaniel Greene, who, in March of 1780, fought British General Cornwallis and his troops to a draw, at the location of the present battlefield park. My wife and I frequent this park to run and walk during all seasons of the year. This park has a loop roadway approximately two miles long, with stops along the way describing the battle. You can even tune your radio to have your visit narrated. There are numerous paved trails that split off from the various stops, as well as many interesting monuments throughout the park. My favorite is the huge statue of General Greene on his horse near the entrance to the park. The park is heavily wooded, offering shade and beautiful fall color. There is a park office, gift shop and museum with ample parking. The museum offers a free movie about the battle. There is no charge for visiting the park. This is the only Federal National Park (Military Park) in Greensboro, and it is truly a one of a kind gem for Greensboro.

Pynk Diamond

A very Peaceful, Scenic and Relaxing if you love Nature. I go here to DESTRESS and get my Exercise in at the same time. ♥️

Day Tripper

This is a smaller national military battlefield park with representation of a few buildings from this piece of history, but at least the national park service was able to attain and preserve this much, for all to see and reflect.... It has a nice visitors center with friendly informative park rangers, interesting artifacts in the museum, we watched the film about the battle and history and of course got my cancellation stamp in my national parks passport book!

Mark Davenport

Great place to visit. It's always clean and we'll kept.

Charles Bostek

Loved the history! Watch the movies first, then walk around.

Susan Roberts

Nice place for a visit!! Great walking/running areas in a historical setting. Onsite museum, trails all around, free parking available & usually a popular place for an outdoor adventure! I've seen lots of dogs, (-leashed), accompanying their people too!!

Bill Strong

Very interesting, easy to get around.

Maria Vanzee

Better than any medication to calm and I seem to stay in touch with my needs as long as I go there. Been doing it for years.

Thomas Haggerty

Free museum on grounds is educational and nicely curated. Grounds has numerous trails, clean, and feels safe. Can learn about USA Revolutionary War here.

K. N.

Big beautiful park full of history right smack in the middle of Greensboro! There are plaques and monuments throughout the park explaining the battle fought there and what the property was originally used for. There is even a restored farm. The park has lots of walking paths and locals certainly take advantage it when the weather is nice. There are also battle re-enactments for the public in March. It actually gives you a sense of what the area actually looked like hundreds of years ago. Thank goodness this historic place is preserved for all to see. Its well worth a visit if you are a history buff. Tip: The Courthouse was a log cabin and is no longer standing. Pull up the park map from the website for all the park details. Enjoy!

Walt Dizzy

This is a great place to walk or even ride a bike. There are predesignated areas to ride a bike. There are various historical sites with information about a particular event. I would recommend this place for individuals who enjoy walking, running, or biking.

Crystal Rose

A great place to visit. Great walking paths with playgrounds and a pond. We happened to visit on the 238th Anniversary of the battle. There was an reenactment, and vendors selling various items. The statutes and memorials were really awesome. Took my kids there (ages 10-16) and they loved it. We didn't have a lot of time to spend there, but will definitely go back. There are also picnic tables available. Definitely a fun place to check out if you're in the area.

Lynn Crowe

Beautiful park! Historic monuments and paved Greenway for walking tours, biking or running. Check out visitor's center for overview of battleground significance and tours.

Jack Oats

Great place to go if you are into history or if you just want to walk around and see some sites. If you enjoy hiking or running this is definitely a great place to go.

Luke M

Awesome casual walking area.

Alexandre Cardoso

Amazing public park with free parking. Good to walk.

Mike faceman

A nice park with great trails for running and walking. It has a ride along tour of the battle that took place at this park. The museum is a great attraction too. If you're into Pokemon go there are gyms and stops to battle and spin.

Lacol

Loved this park. Very open and well kept. Shady areas to rest and plenty of parking. Take a step back in time and see the lovely statues dedicated to the Revolutionary War. I love it.

Most Americans consider the Battle of Yorktown the defining conclusion of the Revolution, but how did we get to Yorktown? The history runs through here at Guilford Courthouse Battleground, where British commander Lord Cornwallis fought and won a victory that cost him over 25% of his army. The Americans in the words of Cornwallis "fought like demons" in a tense battle. The Americans were led by Nathanael Greene, and included a host of men of character, including Henry Lee (father of Robert E. Lee), Peter Francisco (a giant man that could pull cavalry of their horses), William Washington (cousin to George Washington), Marquis De Bretigny, a French nobleman, and many more. The British were led by Lord Cornwallis and included some of his Majesty's finest soldiers, including the feared cavalry leader Banastre Tarleton. While a tactical defeat, the battle helped to secure American victory by weakening the British army. Locally, the battle is permanently imprinted, with the city of Greensboro named after Greene, and part of Winston Salem taking it's name from Patriot Joseph Winston, who is buried in the park. The park itself was the first national park related to the American Revolution. There are two museum facilities to explore, and many monuments dedicated to both American and British service along the beautiful walking trail that details the events. Activities are planned throughout the weekends each year, culminating in the annual March 15 battle anniversary. Additionally, July 4th includes a simple but reverent ceremony to the heroes of the Revolution (two of the NC signers of the Declaration of Independence also buried at Guilford Courthouse). If you are near Greensboro, visit this park.

Javier Carranza

Great place to visit, take a walk, and to get a feel for what happened during the Revolutionary War. The visitors center has great exhibits and information, and it is great for school trips!

Maurice Chilton

Great place to walk and enjoy history

Brian Sommers

Great park with a walking tour and visitor center with well-maintained exhibits. Nice walking trails, too. Visitor center also has a few videos running if you have time for a longer visit. Got the stamp for my national parks passport book! There was also a table with tactile/braille maps of the battle, which was pretty neat.

Bryan Roy

It's not often today we reflect on where we come from or how something is made. This is a great humbling tour through our past very accessible with drive offerings, phone on demand audio for tour, and clean facilities.

Steve Lewis

Really enjoyed walking the park

Michael Horton

My four dogs and I often go to Guildford Courthouse National Military Park. We love to walk here and always discover something new.It is so historic with statues and cannons from the Civil Was as well as other relics. There are on and off road trails and it connects to Country Park. There are many hikers, dog walkers and cyclists. There is a yearly Civil War reenactment which should not be missed. This is one of the great cites in Greensboro that should not be missed.

Ravan Rinehart

I live close to here and it's nice to be able to go hiking and just be with nature. There are so many cool historical things here. Perfect for a date or just a day to yourself.

Douglas McDowell

Nicely maintained and great walking environment.

Amy Adams

Great place to walk! If you go inside the visitor center you can grab a tour map.

Kori Vanselow

Nice way to honor the battle field. Because of the terrain, the trails have hills not suitable for wheel chair.

Jay Langston

I'm a history buff and there was a connection to my wife's family. Could have spent the entire day. The film is definitely a must to help understand the importance.

Amanda Chase

Great park, nice staff, and interesting artifacts.

Celia Medrano

Very nice. Educational

Cee Duncan

Shaded, Serene, and safe. Excellent place for walking humans and walking your dog.

Tim melton

Just a nice park and visitors center

J Denney

It’s fun and sobering to relive American History as you observe the monuments of our nation’s early leaders. The quiet beauty of nature on these grounds are a relief from the noisiness of our everyday lives.

William Campbell

If you are interested in the revolutionary war, this should be high on your list! The restoration is still under way, but the trails and monuments are in place, and the visitors center contains many battleground artifacts arranged in displays which explain the importance of this battle. Very educational for all ages!

Heather Burns

A great historical park for walking/running/bike riding. Just please observe the signs that keep pedestrians and wheeled traffic separated. And if you have a large group it would be nice to not spread out all across the lane, be courteous of others who may be walking/running faster than your group and yield some space.

Kristina Lynn

You could spend a day here walking and still not hit all of the paths. The paths are paved and there are a lot of historical things to check out. If you are into Pokemon Go, this is a hot spot. There is a fair amount of parking. I didn't notice whether there were bathrooms or not. But other than that I would recommend it for those looking to get some steps in.

Toni Fields

So far we've only spent an hour at this great site, but we plan on returning very soon. From a Revolutionary War point of view the area has some pretty significant history, and should interest even people with only a minimal interest in America's breaking away from England. In addition to looking around we watched a 30 minute live action film while there which was very enlightening and moved along at a good pace - wasn't boring or stodgy at all. They also have an outstanding museum inside the visitor's center with many great artifacts such as muskets, swords, pistols, uniforms, and everyday objects from the time period. Definitely worth a look if you're gonna be in the area. :)

Judy Byers

Very informative, many historical background events that shaped Greensboro.

Ilan klein

Great trail for jogging biking or just taking the kids out

Lee King

There is so much history here and a lot of wildlife.

Carmen Bristol

An absolutely wonderful place. History in front of tou.

Eyes Of Capricorn

Best spot for walking & meditation

Debbie B

Very educational how important nc was...very nice park too.

God, Family, County JWS

Awesome place to visit and walk around. I think it's cool they still refer to us as "rebels" against the British. I thought the PC police would have cried by now.

Jeanie Yount

Beautiful park location in Greensboro. The grounds are well kept and we love going to the Battle reenactment every year. I feel safe walking in this park.

Jessica Saxe

When we lived down Lake Brandt we walked here weekly with our son. We loved it! Nothing boring and always new things to sight see too!

Gregg

Well done museum and presentations. Well informed staff and self guided tour was great

mike ankner

Would be higher, but closed due to shutdown. Trails open, but road and visitor center and restrooms closed. Actually nice to walk road and see battlefield. Closed to cars, but if able to walk or bike 2.5 miles can still see.

elite aquarium services

Amazing show this year. Great turnout.

Grace Elizabeth Colepaugh

Beautiful park with lots of history and excellent walking paths. Pet friendly.

Maria Linden

Great place for walking & a history lesson.

J Self

Beautiful park! Tax dollars well spent! Watch the movies, they are very informative and accurate.

Gary Thornton

This is a great place to go back in time while taking a stroll or riding a bike. From the battle field to the statue of Nathaniel Greene, this is an historic site full of American heritage. Although the Battle of Guilford Courthouse was "won" by the British, the war was turned in our favor and independence was within our reach.

Tom O'Dell

Great trails to take a walk. Great place to walk your dogs. Lots of shade. Riding your bikes. Safe place to do all the above!

Lindsay Pendleton

One of the best places to walk in Guilford county.

audrey williams

So grateful this park is in Greensboro--love it!

Jason Colepaugh

Amazing history, nice museum and videos about the battle, includes gift shop, park bench's. Managed by national park service, and knowledgeable park rangers on hand at main building.

Justin Maslack

Great park for a quick walk or run. Can get a bit crowded on a nice day (parking wise) but it's a big enough not to notice.

Steve Mattern

Beautiful park, just wish the path was better laid out to follow the battle.

Infinitely Stoked

Perfectly located to where I live and extremely well kept.

Joel Morris

Love it a great park to honor those who fought for our freedom

Doris Kay Halstead

Very well presented film of historical sigificance. Mapped out easy to follow battle plan for both sides. Large collection of expertically and artistically presented artifacts. It really brought this history to life. Area residents must also love the bicycle, hiking and auto paths to see the grounds up close with a myriad of monuments in the beautiful and well labled battle grounds. The hike to see is 2.5 mi round trip so the auto loop a necessity for some. Kudos to the designers. Dogs allowed but truly not enough room for picnic or eatery facilities.

D Douglas

#accessible #nature great walking trails also.

Jarred V

Relaxing, peaceful, and a great place to walk your dogs, and experience nature.

Steve Plante

Rick Bauer

Great park and learning center.

John Kellam

Great place to walk or jog, many different trails. Great for biking as well.

Kay Cole

Enjoyed this park, it highlights a battle of the American Revolution. It does a good job of describing the battle with videos and a museum. It was too hot to walk around, but we did parts of the driving and online tour, and it was really interesting!

William K. Walton

Excellent stop for nature & history in Greensboro. Very informative rangers. And cost effective. Good respite from the road

Scott Griffith

It's very educational and very well kept and clean. Loved the walking tour of the battlefield.

Cheryl P

Wonderful cell phone tour!

Larry Clark

Another place to go if you're a history buff.

Dale Baker

Went for the first time with my two dogs. The trails were great. One of the ground keepers was extremely helpful.

Laura Maggart

Watch the 10 minute battle map video at the information center before going on driving tour, you will have a better understanding of the battle lines.

Ben Yates

Lots of history at this park and well kept by the National Park Service....2 1/4 mile loop with different stops talking about the battle of Nathaniel Greene. Visitor Center has a gift shop and neat memorabilia in a walk thru gallery.

David Blood

What a great place to visit. If you want a quiet place to walk or sit, go out into the park. If you want more history in your life, go to the visitor center. They have a great film on what happened at this location during the Revolutionary War. The staff is extremely helpful. Stop at the front desk for ideas on what to do there. Bathrooms are inside the visitor center. Making it even better is that it is all free.

Sam Funchess

Wonderful national park honoring those who fought in the Revolutionary War. The battle at Guilford Courthouse is known as one of the last major battles of the Revolutionary War the English technically won.

Tony Rupard

Very historic. Battle is clearly explained.

Casey Garland

Love visiting.. staff were exceedingly friendly and educational.. the park was very clean and the paths were clear of debris for better accessible and easier walking with strollers and wheel chairs..

Portia Spruell

My mother and I come here often to walk the trails. I love it! I often take pictures of the scenery while walking.

Shawn McCarthy

This is a beautiful park with some interesting pieces of history in it. I love walking my dogs through here while I look at the historical statues. There are plenty of benches and clear trails. There isn't much in the way of signs and posts, so I imagine it's possible to get lost here, even if temporarily. It feels quite safe to walk through here. I'm not sure what the crime statistics are for this place but I've never felt unsafe in this park.

Ariel James

We enjoyed the tour. There are two shows/movies, a nice historical walk-through exhibit, and a nice gift shop in the visitor center. I would not say this place is kid-friendly- they are very serious about the sanctity of the park. The path to the big monument is not paved and the path to the smaller sites is very steep, so this may not be the best place to visit for folks with mobility challenges. There is a nice driving tour that might be a good option.

spksean

Great place to go for a walk.

bruce mezger

Great gives you a nice walk in nature.

Aaron Owens

It a a really great place to walk/hike or just to be with yourself or others while enjoying nature and rich history

Lynn Phillips

joan

Walking trails that aren't muddy after rain.

Stephanie Hudson

Better places to go for a walk unless you're just there for the history lol

Anne Parlier

Great trails. Lovely woods. Historical markers and plaques.

Terry Addington

Great Park. Best interpretive video I've seen yet.

Peter Nowosielski

Nice place to walk, a little crowded.

Rick Nobers

This is different than most national parks and this makes it unique. It commemorates the dead of the American Revolution. The park has a visitors center that shows recovered artifacts from soldiers. This includes weapons, clothing, etc. Parking here on New Garden. The park itself has a main paved loop. There is a parking lot here for this on Old Battleground Road. There are several monuments on this loop. There are other hiking trails that take you through wooded areas with streams, bridges, etc. Some monuments are hidden off of these trails. People walk and run these frequently. The Atlantic and Yadkin Greenway intersects the parking lot off Old Battleground Road. It is long and takes you to Bur-Mil Park. There are alway people exercising here and this gets busy on weekends or weekday mornings. Adjacent to Country Park and you can walk back and forth between them.

CurbsideUnderwood

Perhaps historically the most important place on American soil. The museum here is simply awesome! I love how enthusiastic and knowledgeable the staff are. I was surprised to find that there are actually two museums next to each other, if you go a little further down New Garden you'll find the other one. There is a great informal movie, as well as really cool exhibits to look at. The gift shop is simply awesome! And the trails in the park are rather enchanting and can soothe the soul. But be sure to take a somber moment to remember all those who died So Others May have freedom. It's so much more than just a place to go jogging, it truly is Sacred Hallowed Ground. And if you can ever get a chance to watch the reenactment in March it's so cool! And afterwards everyone sets up with Tents, will answer your questions, and you'll feel like you're back in the 1700s, you can also buy tons of awesome merchandise, just make sure you bring cash!

Charles Colladay

Important for the things that went on here. Impressive monuments, enjoyed the cycle tour around the battle sites. Didn't spend much time in the museum but one memorable thing were musket balls, chewed and unchewed. That starts to become sobering when you think on it.

Rhonda Jones

Love walking the park with my 4 legged fur baby

Madeline Taylor

Such an awesome experience. We went in and told them the names of our ancestors who fought in the battle and they gave us information about each one including where they fought in the battle. I hope to return and visit again!

Gabriel Baker

Really cool place to go and I love how you can drive around the memorial

Andrew Ward

A beautiful place to walk and enjoy nature. You can walk/ride bikes along the pathed roads, or walk the more secluded dirt paths. You'll find graves, land markers, and posters with history lessons along the way.

Mike Boyle

Enjoyable place for a walk. Nature, history.

Terrie Hickman

Natural beauty with local history. Great 4 walks, pet friendly.

Jillian Harless

Beautiful and shaded hiking/walking trails. Visitors center is nice and informative.

Dank Lemon Drop

The trees offer fantastic cooling shade despite this awful heat. I love coming here with my pup and walking for a few hours. The statues often provoke thoughts on the battles that once took place here.

Andrew Bello

Always cool to be there

Ryan Lee

Check out the museum. I had an ancestor that was at this battle. We mentioned this to one of the staff members and he asked what his name was. We told him and he went to the back office. He came back later with letters, documents, and correspondence that they had about this ancestor and other descendants. It was really neat. We did the audio tour with CD but it looked like you could call a phone number to get the same thing. There are a lot of different stops and things to see.

J Sears

A great place to walk around for a day and read about this area's rich history. I love coming here on a nice day and walking on the Greenway trail. They have a visitor center and do tours. It's very well kept up and a nice place to take your family or significant other. It's great to see Greensboro has areas of rich history still kept in good condition.

John Trent

First time today at the Battle of Guilford Courthouse reenactment with my oldest son. Talking family back tomorrow for remaining activities. Great time.

donn westerhoff

Preserves hallowed ground of those who died bringing the united states,to life. Helpful and knowledge able rangers and staff. Worth the effort to visit.

James Gale

A beautiful Park and really interesting to learn about. The kids got their junior Ranger Badges and we all learn something new.

Gregory Stiller

Cold rainy day. 50 people out walking and jogging. More ambitious than I am. Nice visitors center. Number Sixteen on Park trip.

Cameron Cloud

Interesting and engaging tour of one of the key battles in the War for Independence. The staff was helpful, and we enjoyed the displays and presentation at the visitor's center. The self-guided driving tour suited our limited schedule and we got a good sense of the battle even though we didn't walk all the trails on the the tour.

Aimee moreno

Today. Speed limit for cars is 20 mph but they are definitely going 35mph +. Very dangerous, I do not recommend taking your kids there. Cars are not respectful of the pedestrians.

Scott Sanders

Very good trails to walk

Michael Tompkins

Very interesting place with lots to do

Johnny Gonzalez

Very family oriented place very safe plenty of sitting areas

Lloyd Janney

Walk through time. Great place to visit. very very family oriented. Walk the trails and revisit historical landmark of a ferice battle of British and Americans. Beautiful landscape.

I love this place as I enjoy walking around the road without worrying about the smell of city cars... you might meet a few squirrels and peaceful deer

Nanci Beth

Nice place to take a walk and get away from the stress of everyday life. It is next to the greenway. You can walk on the greenway or in the park itself on the trails or sidewalk. You could also go for a bike ride. It is full of history. It is a good place for couples, families, walking with pets or people that are just looking to exercise alone. There is a bathroom in the park on the loop for those who find themselves in an emergency.

Claudia D.

Very nice park, challenging for a beginning walker but very nice! Plenty of people walking the area so you feel safe. O absolutely love it.

Jerome Ardrey
