Beautiful place

Craig Alexander Hartl

Fort Tilden is one of the most beautiful places in the city limits. I think of it as Riis Beach's sister, you take the Q35 to either and it just depends what you want from your day: Riis Beach is the social scene, where you can make friends (especially all the way at the eastern end), but Tilden is where I like to take dates and make out in nature and hang out with ghosts.

Madina Pardaeva

My boyfriend loves taking pictures here! Moonlight and beautiful ocean blended just like a miracle here! Also dont forget to Breathe, it is a great place to do some yoga!!!

Erick Larios

Great get away far but worth it

Michael Olson

Favorite NYC beach! Always plenty of room to get comfortable. Proximity to the amenities at Riis is a huge plus.

Jonathan Wood

Due to a lack of parking, Fort Tilden can be difficult to access. But if you can make it there by Uber, or on a long trek from the Q35 and Q22 buses, you'll find a beach that's a little less crowded than nearby Riis Beach. The beach is also unprotected, so there's no lifeguards on duty, and though there are park rangers patrolling the beach, they don't seem to bother people about much more than keeping out of the areas reserved for wildlife only.

William Egan

Great Day... Beautiful Warm Refreshing Water!!

L. Lu

CBRN can do better than this place.

Gila Kaplun

Best of 'off the beaten path' in New York

Bernard-Marie Mendes France

Here's a spot looking towards Staten Island in the distance on the horizon, with no one else around on a week-day afternoon. A really serene place to retreat. For respite and relaxation unfettered by a lot of people or the general crowded week-enders. It's not like the 40s where everyone packs the beachfront. But it does get its share of sunbathers and the like whenever the conditions are just right. On some days the beaches cam get awfully windy and uncomfortably impossible to sit on the sands without it becoming negatory. Otherwise when the days are hotter and warmer, it becomes a haven to flock to. Park Rangers frequently patrol the area since it is considered a Wildlife refuge for Nesting Birds. A conservatory like area cottoned off while the birds hatch their eggs on the ground.

Tony Mansi

Soak up Some Sun at Public Beaches: During the summer, people often head to Coney Island to get in some beach time, but New York has plenty of other public beaches that are free to visit. Brighton Beach, is near Coney Island, but is more under-the-radar and full of Russian restaurants. The Rockaways draw surfers to Queens, and Fort Tilden is a favorite among hipsters.

Jennie Cortes

Its so lovely here...

chris caracciolo

Great place to catch a really nice PC of beach in the area. It's kinda of a private community but the park has access to the beach .parking is your biggest problem. Check your listen for art openings and community events

Pat Trainor

Great place to play baseball and soccer

Chief Pigloo

I absolutely LOVE exploring both the beach and the park. It's a unique combination of meadows, fields, forest, and beach that keeps me coming back. Every New Yorker should experience the little trails and hidden gems here. You'll find many buildings left behind of the fort that you can freely enter and photograph.

Andrew T. White

Love exploring this place! All the abandoned buildings are a lot of fun and something you don't see much anymore in NYC. If you have a car its a great little day trip.

Sean Sheridan

Fort Tilden is filled with things to do, from surfing and swimming (even an unofficial nude beach), to fishing, bike riding, and listening to your girlfriend complain that "we're lost, and we're gonna die out here, this isn't even funny anymore" as you trek through some of the finest wilderness in Queens. There may not be an abundance of wildlife on the trails, but there are Piping Plovers to swoop at you, seagulls to steal your lunch, and hepitutus needles in the sand, so you'll always be on your toes. One of the best spots in NYC if you're looking to roll fitness, leisure and an accidental diseased injection all into one. 7/10 - will need to come back and look for more cans of rolling rock from 1996 in the weeds.

NYGOLD

Beautiful park on the ocean.

Ruthanne Harrison

Beautiful, wild park. On one side is a view of the NY skyline, but climb to the other side, and it is ocean as far as you can see.

Patricia Pagano

Beautiful day at the Fort.

Rafael Hernandez

Cleanest beach in nyc

Tara Abyssinia Klang

Rockaways best hidden treasure!

Zachary Vogel

I love abandoned places so I'm biased but this was a great place to spend a few hours exploring. From what I can tell it was a beach inplacement with some bunkers that I think used to have turrets in them. And also some abandoned ammo warehouses. There is a missile test site we couldn't get to but I think the might be a way to there from the beach. There are old signs that say do not enter you can walk past but it's blocked off for driving. I think you can drive down to the beach but I'm not sure if ur supposed to. The building's by the beach one I was able to get in but you really need to go in with at least two or three people and plenty of flashlights it's extremely dark and kind of maze like.

Basil Walker

Somewhere beyond the Sea, she's there waiting for me.

Jane Lachner

A beautiful wild beach filled with bird life, old military buildings, art, theater, farming, and sports. Let’s not forget BEACH

Robert Patterson

Cool place love the light house.

Tracie Leonard

The location is wonderful for people in Brooklyn. Its easy to get to by car or public location. Private space for your function without intrusion from others. You can play music, games just good ole fun.

Knuckles Rules

Just chasen fish.

Sparky Ny

There's always something going on here and when there isnt, its a perfect quiet place to relax at. Beachy air and plenty of grass. Oh, and Ingress portals for those interested!

Jesse Ryan

Best beach coast to coast

Vladimir Van Dyke

Used to be a nice deserted park to find your solitude and empty beach. Not anymore. Millennials screwed up all.

Dawit Dembel

Not too many ppl around

Ana kingstone

Amazing Experience

Richard Furlong

By far the best beach in New York City.

Kai Kalino

Historic spot across the bridge. Get a good pair of shoes because you will be walking for a while.

Dadondadda Daboss

Amazing experience, great place to visit and find things from the past

Joshua Tuscan

Best beach in the Rockaways, especially if you like hanging out with naked people.

Deborah Dalton

Beautiful day, all facilities were closed!

Ramona Medeiros

Beautiful Park Hope to go again soon

Jenna Williams

Very hip place and scene. Loved seeing all of the art work they show! Katharina Grosse and Yayoi Kusuma Narcissus Garden have been my personal favorites!

Lifedoc Giz

What do you do with a fort that is no longer needed? Turn it into a national park. This park has several areas 4 leisure activities usually in the warmer months. And also houses the Rockaway Arts cooperative. It is very nice that people living in Rockaway and visiting Rockaway have a very good Park to relax and play.

A B-boy Named Larry

If you're looking for an alternative to more popular beaches like Coney Island, Brighton and Long Beach then this spot is great, less crowded (depending where you set up shop), great food choices and hipsters galore. We rode here on our bikes and that was a great choice, very bike-friendly getting here.

David Fay

For being so close to NYC, surprisingly, this park feels spacious and rural. With an unimpeded view towards the Atlantic, the waves crash down and spray mist along the coast. Watching the sunset, with relatively few visitors, and an open sky was a great respite from the hustle and bustle of NYC.

Daniel Collins

KEEP THIS PLACE AS SECRETIVE AS POSSIBLE

Carol Rutkowski

Very nice to visit. Alot to explore!!

Luciano Miranda

Beautiful park with art installations and access to the beach.

James Crompton

Got very sunburned

Ray Williams

Stopped by the Rockaway Artists Alliance Studio 7 for a quick history lesson. Wonderful time to be here in May. Beaches and ruins aren't crowded because of school and work. No need for parking permits before June.

Flex Diaz

Beautiful place in the winter for if one wants to take a nice walk.

roly rodrigueez

I think I just drove by

William Valentine

Out of the way, basically anything goes. Abide by Federal park regulations. They do not mess around. Permits needed for fishing, and parking. Live in the area all my life, good beaches, no lifeguards.

Joseph Tricarico

Great time with people that i grew up with and i know for 71 years.

David Dahan

Peaceful and not too crowded- worth the long ride

Raymond Reyes

It's so secluded yet eerie, only a few know about this awesome place

Victor Tchij

If not for shutdown, would give 5 stars

ABC ADVENTURES

What a cool hidden gem. Not crowded. Well worth the trip..

Ashly Priest

This is a hidden gem near NYC. Off the beaten path of most summer beaches, while accessible by public transportation, the best way to get there is if you have a car. Not even close to as crowded as Coney Island or the Far Rockaways. There are leisurely walks through the dunes (where allowed) as well as nearby historic sites. FYI it's technically a nude beach but it's also not because it's considered a National Park, so don't be alarmed if you find some topless/nearly nude sunbathers.

Joe Jaffe

Great place to go birding or walk near the old missile batteries. Also home to a great local theater company.

Kraig DeMatteis

Fort Tilden used to be Goonies-level adventure and exploration for teens, from old rusted buildings and concrete bunkers, to the enormous anti-ship guns embankments and underground tunnels. Most of that has been sanitized and off-limits. But there are still "things to do" such picnics, dirt soccer fields, and the Arts Center. Not sure about public beach access, but Riis Park beaches are right next door. Afterwards, go out the gate to the Breezy Dogs food truck for 100 different shakes and a Breezy dog, or walk down to the concessions at Riis Park.

Stephen Arthur

Great beach you can bike to easier than any other means, as a result, there are very few families compared to other beaches. The beach is getting more popular with each passing year.

M P

We went to the Queens Alliance Art Show.... very nice

Christopher Woll

Hate to even review, place doesn't exist. Never has. It's a made up magical land you'll never find. Do youzself a favor and stay far away.

david adams

A national relic on iconic north Atlantic seashore a classic day out five star destination

Allan Mueller

A lot of cops here at sunrise, just killing time- safe, maybe too safe

Las verdades Del Corazon

keith Ekbom

The federal government has to properly fun this parkmoor after Sandy they let it destroy itself

francesco ciaramella

Had lots of fun with the Rockaway Theatre Company. The place is just gorgeous to see!!

Ashlee Silva

Great place for a picnic with the family

Michael Ultsh

Go there if you want to hang nasty family members

Vlad Sedykh

Pretty nice place because there is not many human beings. You cannot find any local groceries or food courts, but it makes this place less populated. No shower or toilet of course (the last point rouses your creativity skills). Also you may find some rare creatures as showed in the pictures below. Anyways the beach is cool as long as there is no a lot of people and it keeps being wild.

MeriHapi Menmetusir

Great place

SANDIE LEE BUTLER

Grear Gallery, wonderful boardwalk.

Brenda Paris

Awesome!

Michael Bruni

This is the best beach and coastal park in the 5 boroughs. Just visit once during a sunny summer day and you'll want to keep coming back.

Michael Bothwell

Not good.

Diane Barbarisi

Didn't go to fort tilden, we were in water on boat off shore to fort, breathtaking views, a little rough in water.

melissa wrolstad

Lovely! Just remember not to fly kites.

david shriqui

Great as usual

Trinity Gonzales

Amazing

Alphonzo Parks

Wonderful hike and the view was spectacular

Drake Feath

As if they do whatever to prevent people to come here. Permits that you need a calculator to fully understand, parking is like a riddle, and fishing is something you can only dream about. I think they need to simplify things.

Jennifer Dressen

Perfect place for a peaceful day.

Jackie DeGroat

Ahhhh.... A beautiful day at a beautiful beach. Quiet and clean and not crowded (at 5 PM on a summer weekday). It's true there is not convenient parking. But we parked on the main road just outside the entrance, and it was a nice walk across grassy grounds to the beach. There's a community garden and some interesting old buildings.

Michael Sinensky

Find bullet Hill, check out the bunkers, look into the museum and local garden. Just stroll around and see some local history.

Lisa stankevich

What an interesting place to visit.

Aidan Wallace

Go. I know it's far and I know it's a trek, but it's clean. It's less crowded. It's beautiful and you can sneak into one of the Army bunkers and makeout with your date or have a picnic facing the Atlantic.

Jim Russell

Got there on a Tuesday morning at 11, and there were only a few others on a long stretch of white sand beach. The water was perfect. And enjoyed the American Oyster Catchers... and the friendly Ranger who explained there endangered status.

Salvo's Fishing

was better when you were able to drive up to the beach

karen carone

Clean nice scenery nature , need to like the outside walking jogging .

Wheeler Kearney

Great place hang out on the beach.

Oliver Fiegel

The best beach in NY, but on the more difficult side to get to. Needs commitment. Jakob Riis is just next door, so at least there are food options:-) take a good book and use the SB44 from Marcy to Flatbush junction. Then the Q35 to fort tilden. You'll finish those two chapters of that book on your way.

MIKE Scandif

This is a wonderful theater company dedicated people and a real Jewel for Rockaway

Curtis Wanderer

Wow this Fort Tilden. this got so much going on its got The Rockaway Theater Company that puts on Broadway quality plays.. it's got an art museum and art gallery open on weekend's sculpture garden soccer fields Little League Baseball in season lucky to have this place.

Not overly populated and a quiet place to walk.

Tameka Wilson

Beautiful Park, secluded, clean and the beach is just a short walk. If you have a chance go!

JEFFERY JOHNSON

Couldn't find the cool places I saw on Google when I looked it up. Ended up chilling at a bench by the bathrooms for 20 minutes then leaving. Flaccid hang, yo

Paul Fallon

Great long beaches and surroundings.

Uncle Malcolm Williams

Had a lot of fun

pa pan

Part of the Gateway NRA. Old military base along wild undeveloped beach. Can walk from / to Riis Beach for grub and more civilian fare. Nature is allowed to reclaim most areas. Some trails to bunkers and hidden installations. No life guards. Fishing with permits. Ball fields and picnic areas. No concessions. Artist alliance theater and gallery/studio.

Luis Ortega

Very nice. Not crowded and is clean. Got to have parking permit.

gearshead dom

Fishing, bike lane pool what more can you ask for? Well....a picnic/bbq area would make this place complete.

Christian

Look for the stairs, what an amazing view.

Arefia Ali

This place has been a safe space for New York NATIVES for years. Please dont bring your kids there as its primarily a nude beach. Pick your trash when you leave, dont litter our beaches.

Monika Chodkiewicz

fabulous beach

Richard Juan

Great for quality time with family

Настя Гимнастя

Wild beach

Rajika Nakkawita

Wow just discovered this amazing place. Secluded and beautiful. Tons of seashells and nature. Beaches on state park are really nice and calm. No concessions, and there is only a restroom as you enter the park off the main road (nowhere near the beach). Great place to hear the waves and read a book.

Meaghan Cawley

Terrible place. A lot of homeless people live in the bunkers. Pretty much every bunker has a dirty mattress and a pile of syringes. The last time we were there there was a raggedy looking heroine addict defecating on the beach in plain view of children. Feces everywhere. Parks department seems to only be concerned about what's in your cooler and not all the dog feces on the walking paths. Garbage everywhere. Unkept walking paths. There is no where to park so you have to walk a good mile plus to get to any of the trails. Don't bother coming here you'll probably get mugged

Bill Burley

the PERFECT city beach.

N B

this beach is amazing!

Jonathan Burland

Amazing beach if you love swimming in plastic! Amazing.

Minnie Mitchell

George Falzon

RanTan Pushkin

Nice fields for BB and soccer its kept clean . Only 1 public bathroom which isn't open all the time

Bianca Claircidor

Fort Tilden was a great adventure with my partner. I love this place! It’s filled with nice, cool, abandoned buildings. It’s peaceful and overloaded with amazing view. If you’re looking for a quiet place to spend some time, but still want to be adventurous and mysterious, then this is the spot for you. I was just trying to see what was wrong with us in those pictures lol. Don’t mind us. We’re complete weirdos!

Kevin Guyer

Such a great vibe on this beach.

Jerome Jones

This has been my get away when I needed a few mins of calm and quiet from the city and city living. Not only is it a beautifully keep park the stunning view are absolutely photo shoot Worthy.

Zachary XAE

This is a good park. Please try to make it out here sometime. It's got something for everyone. Beaches are nice, and lots of space if Coney Island is too crowded for you. There are trails, bird watching, naval cannon batteries. Baseball fields, historic tours. There is a lot of history here. You'll have fun, just remember to park legally and pay for your camping permit and you'll have a great time!

Alicia Ferguson

Beautiful beach escape!!!

Ryan Billey

Always great being with family and friends

Ervin Miller

Good for fishing

山下ユキ

H MC

We found an abandoned wood shop The hammer was left in the middle of a task screws were loose The floor was decaying Miriam wanted to take an old can Then she decided that she didn’t want to mess with “the private property” sign On our way back we were told by the police that we WERE on private property the railroad... —September 2018 Biking there now. —May 11, 2019 9:15am I realized how stupid it was not to cry. On this very beach. —May 11, 2019 There’s a phase I call ‘Hyper Connectivity’ in which I feel overly connected to every element that comes to my vision and sensation. Every little scene before my eyes, those images you are supposed to forget the next second contains some material of connectivity wired to my body. I end up, at the end of the day, to be heavily saturated by scenes, smells, voices , noises and words that I feel related to. I was looking at a toddler through the parked cars on the other side of the street. He was playing with a hose when it suddenly splashed water on his face. His whole body moved uniquely in shock. I witnessed one of his first experiences of this kind, of hoses and water. All happened in one glance. I kept it. I do that a lot while I’m hyper connected. High from the scenery and sensibility. —July 16, 2019

Shawn Lewis

Nice atmosphere. I would have given it 5 stars if it had parking. Use public transport or private bus service. There's a private bus service that runs from Williamsburg to Fort Tilden every Saturday and Sunday.

Renato Quiridumbay

Don’t be dirty pick up your trash, nice quiet place

Yehiel Denci

I almost can't believe I'm in Brooklyn just beautiful

Anisah Abdullah

This is an amazing long stretch of white sand beach. You'll see it while flying into JFK Airport. I was there last week, it was cold and windy but the beach is beautiful and I could only imagine how busy the place could be during summer. It was a nice drive from Brooklyn passing some of the most incredible structures of bridges. Catch the sunset while you're there.

Andrew Hu

Love this place, I bring my friends here a lot to get amazing pictures and enjoy the scenery. Come during the summer and enjoy the beach as well!

Kelly Virdin

Love the variety of shows here musicals also baseball people come to the beach year I came to visit the horses also don't forget to visit the boardwalk
