This Park is classified in the category of State park.
This is a large beautiful lake! You can boat, there's many boat docks, swim, take your dogs, family, and so on. There's large bass here. I brought my dog for the dog and we had a blast!
Worst night camping I've ever had. After midnight, and 2 hours past the noise cut off, I literally heard gunshots, car alarms, hammering, and power tools. The power tools actually started at 2:00 a.m. never ever ever go there on a weekend and especially of Friday night.
The park and camp sites are set up nicely and are very clean. We got see all kind of wildlife. Staff are amazingly friendly and helpful. This we my first time out here and I will definitely be coming back. I haven't tried yet but I hear the fishing here is great. I'll have to bring the canoe next time.
beautiful lake.. so great to watch the carp swallowing air bubbles in the morning....amazing
Water is dirty. Bathroom facilities are terrible. Other then few shaded rental booth or cabin there is no shade or tree anywhere, will need to bring your own tent. Just not worth it. Next time I'll try Caballo Percha park which is just few miles south of it.
Fun place lots of camping areas with Porta potties. Bring shade it's hot no trees here. Overnight camping and showers available.
What great place to visit for summer. Awesome fun activities and awesome people who want to chat with you. So many things to do like swimming, skiing, boating, church shop, talk with people, or just to enjoy the sunshine. You must turn off the main road and spend time in this little Butte place. I guarantee you will have lots of fun.
It's a perfect day. Not to hot. My dogs are having so much fun.
It's beautiful!! Calm and peaceful place!
Fun fun fun in the New Mexico sun. Bring lots of water, sunscreen, and energy. This place is great.
Awesome place to go fishing for many different species of fish, biggest lake in New Mexico. The reason I get it only four stars is too many people drinking and driving their boats which is very dangerous when you have kids or anybody they need more people patrolling the boats you got a few maniacs, and you're very good people following the rules.
It was a nice father's day weekend...
Very big lake. Big, actually, enormous park. Lots of sites and few different campgrounds with all variety from dry to full hook ups.
Nice Lake well taken care of lot of fun hats off to all the Rangers
Really! The website did not tell the truth or give information that would let you know what ir is really like with low water. We left and camped in Truth or Consequences .
FUN BACK ROADS FOR 4X4.
Absolutely stunning views. Really enjoyed our time on Elephant Butte lake (even though we didn't catch the fish that were jumping all around us!).
Loved it. Just be careful if you don't have a 4wheel, you will get stucked in the sand. Other than that it is beautiful
Seems like a very popular place.
Love it there I will be going back there again.
A gentleman name Ron was hosting us and made our visit a great one.
Awesome and beautiful place to hang out at. I recomend arriving at night so you can wake-up to amazing views. We had fun jumping off the boat to swim. We were told there was Blue Green Alagae by a person that wanted our spot to setup camp (we think), funny to learn after the fact that the lake was safe. We just heard from the park staff it's safe to swim, but it's best to avoid water that is stagnant. It scared us because our dogs were swimming in the lake the day before and at the time we were told about the Blue Green Alagae.
So much fun. The water was so warm and fun
Beautiful place. Immaculate grounds, lovely landscaping and large sites. Great pool.
Great fishing spot , picnic tables awesome pic ops
Great get away love going with family and friends
Fun clear water were we camped cheap and great for star gazing
Lots of beach space, friendly people, rangers do a good job keeping clean. This is one of my favorite lakes in new mexico.
The "silver minnow" was supposedly saved by NM Governor Richardson. After 18+ years this lake is experiencing an increase of water from the Rio Grande and other tributaries because of snowfall in south western San Luis Valley. Praise the Lord and Hallelujah.
Fun lake and camping. Play area for kids, bathroom and showers available. Tends to be a party lake with lots of loud noises at night, and can be packed with people at times. No shade by the water so make sure you bring some! One of the biggest lakes in New Mexico so plenty of room to do whatever water activity you want.
Easily accessible by car. Swimming, boating, fishing, camping, picnicking, tailgating, canoeing and any other water activities a person might want . The only downside is that you have to pay a day use fee of five dollars or ten dollars for overnight use (per vehicle). Portable restrooms are available at many locations throughout the park. There are paved boat ramps at the main entrance and also permanent showers and restrooms. It also has sheltered tables with charcoal grills available for rent. At the dam site small "cabins" are available for rent. There is a restaurant and a marina store where night fishing spaces are rented. You can also get a nice tan if you like. Walks alongside the lake are nice and you may come across pieces of driftwood, small shells and even small pieces of petrified wood or maybe obsidian. A good place to visit in south - central New Mexico .
Love this place! Breathtakingly beautiful desert plants. The huge lake was sparkling clean with a soft sand bottom. Spent hours driving around and swimming. Will return ASAP!
Love this lake and the people. Clean restroom facilities with showers. Love the fact that they have recycling bins! Thank you so much for a wonderful time!
Only 5 to get in for the day very nice place to enjoy the summer and camp
the water was a bit green and full of algae, but was otherwise nice. There were plenty of boaters and water machine lovers doing their thing which made it a little noisy.
I live and work here as a volunteer. What a beautiful place, along with the surrounding area!
Great place to take the grandkids so they could splash around. Bring your own shade.
Such a great family fun atmosphere for so inexpensive. A definite recommend! My family and I love this place.
Awesome lake. Clean camp sites.
Clean state park bathrooms and friendly staff. Weather is just perfect at this time of year.
Excellent, relaxing and fun. 5 min from the lake. Friendly people. The spa was awesome.
Family and I love to go jet ski here. Fun place to camp or just spend the day.
Great camping! Not too crowded. Nice hiking area. Lake was pretty low still but a good place to go to in the winter
Monticello campground was beautiful. Far more quiet than the more central campgrounds. The views from the camp were spectacular and the trails beautifully maintained.
Perfectly level pads. It would be great if they had 50 amp service.
This place is a giant desmadre (for those of u who speak Spanish, you'll get the picture)... trash, loud music and generators that were NOT! turned down or off til about 1am. Tons of ppl, dead fish all over the beach, a drunk dude wandering around yelling into his cellphone after midnight. Yeah...this is B.S. Not worth a penny let alone $8 for a (noisy, smelly) night. Go to Caballo Lake right down the road for peaceful camping. (Or don't and let it stay peaceful) -5
Awesome lake! Better to go camp when the water is a little down to avoid sand spur and goat heads. Camp on the shore!
Absolutely beautiful. So relaxing and everyone is just having a great time all around with family and friends. Love it!!! I highly recommend it.
The water is coming up fast fishing is great and get there before Texas wants there water!
Love it there. Can't get enough.
To a kid from the Upper Northeast this place is downright bizarre. Massive lake in the middle of an otherwise quite barren scrub-desert. To those familiar with "Welcome to Nightvale" I have to assume that this place added at least some amount of inspiration. Rode here on my bike via some gravel roads from Santa Fe. Great spot! Planned on only spending the night but ended up hanging around Elephant Butte/T or C for 3 days. Highly recommend, even as a destination unto itself.
Huge park with multiple entry points. The water is very low but they've adjusted so you can still drop a boat or kayak. We'll be at the south Monticello campground next week but the sites are well spaced and clean looking. Only water and electric though.
Had a weird green film on the top of the water. So, we didn't get in nor let our dog in. Although, there were people in boats on the lake.
The 4th of July fireworks were very nice. It was crowded but nice. I like it a lot.
It's a lake, lots of water with very little shade. Most people have rv's, campers or canopy's so it's typically not an issue. In the event that you've never been here and want to visit, bring something to protect you from the sun.
You can't see Elephant Butte from the main park, find the dam and follow the road down, you won't be disappointed! Very nice park and the lake is very clean and clear. Water was still too cold for me in May
Great place to spend the weekend. Took some getting used to, to get around efficiently. So if you go and its your first time read signs.
They provided a shelter for the $10 overnight camping. That included a picnic table and a fire pit. And check out time was 2pm.
Rough and rainy.... But had a fun time
Looking at buying a home there.. took a dip in the lake... puppy loves the water but water temps are cold.
Need to provide more restrooms, and service portable units more often....
Lake looks good, filling up more every day. Boat dock staff is very helpful. Camp sites are overlooking the lake and water/ electric!
Ugly but accessible. The showers were colder than a well diggers azz in August 2019 sir.
Camping at elephant butte was perfect! In the hot heat this was a great place to cool down, and set up camp right along the beach. 100% worth a night!
Our visit to Elephant Butte was disappointing. There was trash all around the lake. Cigarette buttes, straws, washcloths, bottle caps, you name it. I wish they would a ban on smoking in the park. It would be great if there was some way that the trash could be managed. I blame the visitors but wonder if the park rangers could put in policies ro help with trash. Someone threw coals on the beach after having a fire. My son stepped on one and got a blister from the burn.
I enjoyed the non-electric camp sites for motorcycle camping. You get a shelter and a picnic table and a fire pit on the ground. On 6/19/19 the price was $10. Not bad at all. Considering I paid thirty something to stay at a KOA the night before.
I nice clean state park. There were quite a few people boating on this beautiful day.
Nice park. Slow season, so not a lot of park employees/volunteers available, but wasnt crowded. Late check out times (2pm) are nice, dont feel rushed to get out.
beautidul lake and cheap camping. spent a 4 day pass here before i deployed. good fishing to
Would've had a better time if I had family here.
Absolutely beautiful place. Very reasonable price. A multitude of activities. Just Realize the heat can be BRUTAL if coping without electric when your not swimming.
Great value in a beautiful spot. If only there was 50 amp power in the RV spots.
Advice for all cars! It maybe common sense to some, but not to me at the time. Do not drive your car in sand, not lions Beach. There are parking lots for a reason... 0:) the people there are very nice. Shout out to the guy who volunteered to help me get out of the sand pit! And the three guys and 1 woman who was my driving in sand coach. And Officer Enrique Avalos for serving the state park and greater Santa Fe! But overall, was a nice place to camp and swim.. just use common sense. If you are a car? You will 9 out of 10 get stuck. Park on the macadam, not too far of a walk to the beach
This is a beautiful lake and you should visit it for family time.you can either go on a boat or enjoy the day at shore
A beautiful lake with sandy beaches and lots of boats. The lake has some pretty great fishing areas, especially near the dam. They don't charge too much for entry, and the restrooms are pretty close to the lake. The lake is pretty clean. I'd recommend this place for swimming, fishing, or boating.
Great place to come camping and fishing.
The lake is a pretty oasis in the middle of the desert. You are able to drive right down to the water. We decided to have a picnic lunch. The first spot was rocky and the water was cold, but clear. Then we decided to venture to another spot after eating. I got my SUV stuck in the sand! I was able to maneuver my way out, but a big truck next to us had to be towed. So, be careful! The water by the sandy beach was too oily to enjoy. Would be great for boating!
Love going to the butte!!! Family's favorite getaway
Excellent customer service, nicely decorated and clean, was sad there was no weekday lunch buffet anymore though.
Love spending time here. Good fishing. Great place to be this Easter week.
Wonderful lake to have family and friends fun time!! Lovely place to be able to relax and have fun!!!
All the 1st come 1st served spots were gone. Was able to call and get the last reservation site for the weekend. Large spacious site with great view of lake . The reservation call system works fine except for the excessively long recording you have to listen to before talking to someone to make the reservation. The site is 30 amp with water on the opposite site and about 35 to 40 feet from the electric, no sewer, but $14 per day. Over all a good value. I would have given it another star if I could have by passed the long usless recording.
Water has a smell but good place to go camping, rving, boating. You clothes ends up smelling like sewer. Make sure bring plenty of clean water if you are staying for a few days. Over all a lot of space so it's not cramped up of people. You are able to relax if you end up bringing all the right stuff for camping (sunscreen, water, food, plenty of ice for hot days, music)
We had a blast. It was a last minute camping trip to get out of the city. Easy to get there, we found a spot pretty quickly.
Soooo much fun! The weather and water was perfect for beginning of October.
Very beautiful I was born there and always go there for hanging out with friends to just a silent relaxing day.
We camped between Monticello and Lost Canyon and enjoyed a beautiful Easter weekend here. There are definitely coyotes but we didn't have any problems. I'm looking forward to visiting again in the summer!
Fishing for the kids is great. Friendly people and great service.
Great day at the lake......again! This year is so much more water! Best fires are always on the beach at night!
Always had a good spot, the view is gorgeous, and everyone is friendly.
So much fun..great camping and we rented a pontoon..bring your sun block for sure!!! Lol
Make shure to take shade and 4x4 only Pretty sandy.
Had a ball. Reserve at least two weeks in advance, Especially on Summer Holidays if not bring your own rubber ducky because you can't rent anything that floats
This was my second visit here. My first visit was a complete disaster: It was overcrowded, I got stuck in the sand, the place seemed to be out of control. Went back this time under the tutelage of a local, and what a difference! I'm from up north and we have reservoirs with beaches, but you park in a parking lot and walk to the beach. Not here! People park their cars, campers, tents, shade structures - everything - right at the water's edge. I've never seen anything like it. Anyway, my local buddy "reserved" a section of the beach for us and we had a grand time. I'm still not sure how you reserve a section of beach at a state park in New Mexico, so my advice is to get someone who does know, and go with them. As for the park itself, it could use a lot more amenities, like real bathrooms instead of porta-potties, and lots more shade. Other than that, it's very pleasant and I recommend it.
Awesome weekend other than McDonald's forgot to give me my chicken nuggets
The fullest I've seen it in years. Wish it had more trees.
Our visit was great but gas stations and small stores need to step up their game on merchandise if they had bathing suits and different Essentials for camping swimming and things of that nature I'm sure they would make a lot more money seasonal
Having a great time with NMMI ALUMNI at the lake.
My family and I had a wonderful time here! Stunning views!
Such a nice lake! I love coming here. The people are super nice there and always helpful.
Warm sand, cool water. Quite busy, but not expensive.
So beautiful! Perfect place to relax, have some drinks with friends and family. Perfect for her skiing! It's just gorgeous!!
A spectacular State park with unique combination of desert, mountains, lots of green and of course the lake. Just magical.
Its beautiful and fun t hang out with your friends and family
The weather is perfect. I love being out here.
We stayed here 4 nights. Great place and staff. We stayed at South Monticello and it was quiet. Everything is really spaced out and winding hills throughout. 50 amp is only on pull through and 30 amp is back in we found out which is not detailed on site.
Water is kind of low but plenty of boats and activities going on. Love the camp sites for rvs with electricity and water hookups. The public restrooms were clean and easily accessible. Recommend weekend trip if not longer. Very peaceful and quiet.
Closest thing to a coastal experience you can get in NM. Highly recommend for a camping weekend or just a day at the beach or floating down the river. Can't go wrong, a day pass is $5!
This was my first visit to Elephants Butte and I was very impressed of how beautiful it was. Though it is a lake, I felt as though as was on a beach. A great family and friends hang out, bring your tents, campers, grills, pets and have a great time. Loved it..
Great time at the lake. We spent the night in our tent and the kids enjoyed the water and boat ride. Portal potties were conveniently near and made it easier for the family. Our family pet came also and enjoyed the time at the lake. Great place for a family get away.
The water was at a good height and depth and beautiful surroundings really enjoyed
Haven't been here in years. So beautiful.
I loved this place and I'm going here for memorial weekend which starting today.and my cousin is going here for the first time
The water is high and we had a great time with friends.
One of the few places in NM to boat and fish. The only unavoidable drawback is that there are no trees along the shoreline so bring your hats, sunglasses or some other form of shade!
Easy weekend getaway super friendly locals and just overall a fun outdoor place to visit for fishing boating or picture taking
A great venue for a training on aquatic invasive species spread prevention. Thank you for your watercraft inspection stations. Clean Drain Dry!
Lake level is up real nice :) please take all trash with you it's nice keep it that way!
Relaxing, easy to access. Grounds are kept cleans with access to dumpsters and clean restrooms.
I love being able to go to EB State Park! Kayaking and jet skiing are my favorite watersports and EB Lake is great for these & many others. It's a big lake!
Love this place my girls n I will always come back
Water is up general store is awesome fishing is good
It's really beautiful at EB right now. Water!
The lake is up and it os awesome!
Great state park always clean and always a great time. Make sure you have all wheel drive or 4x4 if you are planning on driving down to the beach. You might get stuck if you don't have either of those. But being cash in case you do as a lot of people who will pull you out will charge
Great place to camp. Nice beaches, inexpensive plenty of water.
Frendly campground users, clean camping spaces and the wheater exellent. Some of the fire pits need attention. Got to help with donations.
Why is the water so low. There was a lot of snow and rain. 20 yrs ago it was beautiful now it's green slime and dirt.
We stayed at the South Monticello campground and we very happy. Much more spacious sites at this campground. Down side you are farther away from town. Restrooms we're cleaned daily. Very pleased.
Very beautiful, the lady at the front gate was super nice!! Amazing stop on the way home!
Lots to do! Fun times!
It has its ups and downs but it is always a good time or story
the lake is nice, but on the website it advertises all campsites as being “50 yards” from the water, and none of them are, unless you have an rv and can drive up to the water. anytime we want to fish or get in the water we have to drive a mile. false advertising and the workers don’t have a clue what they’re talking about.
Awesome beach. Beautiful lake. Fishing, boating and swimming. Lots of desert to explore. Especially if you are a Rock hound. Camping is reasonable with showers
Beautiful awesome place! Love this lake, it's always fun.
The lake was great! The weather was fabless!! Water level up approx. 25 ft! The word at the marina is they are expecting 25 more!
It's always fun going to the lake and staying after the crowd leaves
Fishing was terrible! Will not be back. But the people are great. Might have to try the golf course.
Its huge, beautiful, and it's a great place to make fun and happy memories!
Spacious and pretty with lots of camping, especially dispersed sites. Big lake, power boats, but still some good placid kayak areas. Pleasant in May, hot summers.
Elephant Butte was truly awesome! So beautiful. Only wish I could have known that there wasn't any picnic spots with grills to use.
We have a great time every time we go out here. Make sure you bring a four wheel drive vehicle, or ask the people at the gate where the more packed area is. Lots of people get their vehicles stuck out here.
We loved this place. The dogs enjoyed the beach like lake front walks. A great place to visit and spend sometime enjoying the great outdoors.
Great place to stay. They have hot showers. Clean restrooms. And a playground for the kids. Beautiful scenery. They also have a nice boat ramp and a marina.
Very Nice Setup. Will Be back in the M.H., Nice Looking Campgrounds Etc. Certainly Enjoyed Our Time Here. Come Explore. Blessings Dale
Nice place to get away and relax for the day. When the water is high it's lovely! I haven't been in years but it's a great way to relax.
It is hot! Bring you own shade (there is none provided, no trees) and sunscreen! All types of watercraft and good fishing.
Always a great place to go. 4th of July was crazy but enjoyed it. Wish they had more dump stations.
If you live in El Paso like we do this is the closest and best place to go.swimming in a natural body of water. Although I would suggest going later in the summer time. We went mid-May and the water was still too cold for us to swim. On the bright side my dog had a great time in the water. The lake is huge and there's plenty of space to park, bbq and have a great time.
Love this place but water levels have been quite low. Recently up to 20%.
Love (Friends have a cabin we're allowed to borrow) Great Boating. This year they're having fireworks over the lake tomorrow
Always fun. It's our family vacation.
The RV resort was terrific. One of the best we have been to. Great facilities (though the lady who runs the aquarobics needs to know EVERYONE at the park is entitled to use it not just her & her 5 clients). Would like to have had a boat & more time here as this area is very interesting.
Hello I just wanna let people know that I went to go take a trip to elephant butte this Easter weekend and that will for sure be the last time I take my kids out their for one the staff offers to let kids go hide eggs then tell my kids to save eggs for other children when their was no other children out other than my children !! Another reason why I will never go back is because rules have changed you have to be in bed at 10 lights out no loud music or noise ! What kind of camping that outdoors are for children to run around and have fun without having to worry about getting kicked out or getting the old folks that live their mad ! Also they say check in at 11 then when you arrive they tell you check in at 3 they short you out a day !!! And don’t give you any notices of them wanting you to leave their property they made me and my family leave their property due to “partying “ I checked in at 3 and was in bed by 11 what partying is that ? Never ever will I go camping their ! The lady’s in ice cream shop are really rude ! And don’t like to pay up what they owe you but take coustmers money out their cards within seconds!!! Terrible place for kids it’s mainly for old folks and people who favor fishing !
It's an amazing place to be with the family, the lake is nice and big you can take your boats, jet ski, and dogs. Just make sure you take a 4×4 truck if you want a spot by the shore
The lake is the fullest I have seen it in years. I grew up on this lake with my parents and now I get to bring my own kids to enjoy the lake. It's a wonderful family gathering place
Loved it. Spent 6 hours on the lake chilling, fishing, and grilling on the pontoon boat. Awesome day.
