This Park belongs to the category of Park.
Beautiful place with a lot of different trails with varying degrees of difficulty. The "high point" has a beautiful view and makes visiting this place worth it. Some trails are short (2 miles) and some are longer (6+ miles). The views and scenery around you during the trails are beautiful. I've been here twice a and plan to go back very soon. Great!
A great big area with miles and miles of trails to explore. It's great for escaping, but be careful because it is bigger than you think and you can get lost so be familiar with trails and take a map. Luckily you can get to a road if you walk a few miles in any direction. There are many peaks as well that allow you to see all the way to the New York skyline. They are really nice views.
Reserved forestry where you can become one with nature. Great cardio from hiking and chances to get some great pics. Try the blue rectangle trail to get to the top!
My homegrown woods.. know them like the back of my hand
This is a great group of trails for beginners to moderate hiking. The views of waterfalls and the amount of wildlife makes this one of the best spots in New Jersey
Amazing forest a lot of good hiking views including New York rock where you can see the skyline of New York City great hiking many trails that are kept up overall very good Park
Amazing trails!!!
Hiked this on short notice without a map, UGH! Made it to Wyanokie High Point and the view was breathtaking!! Would like to come back better prepared
Im new to hiking, this was my first hike EVER. I loved it. The mountain challenged me and the veiws were spectacular.
Trails are well marked. Great selection of trails to choose from to make your hike as long or short as you want and lots to explore. Nice view from the top.
One of the best places to hike in the area. Moderate intensity and stunning views
Lots of different trails to choose. Endless combinations to discover.
Nicely maintained, well marked trails, a good moderate day hike.
Good trekking place... with spectacular view
Nice views, good hikes, old iron mines
great area for hiking all year round
Training for W.M. SAR
Watch out for the mosquitoes and wasps.
Beautiful area with a lot of streams, waterfalls and hiking trails
Stunning views, rocky climb.
Great place to hike. Tons of trails.
Good place in nj
Wonderful place to hike with the family.
It was pretty. Not an easy drive, though.
A ton of places to go hiking! Be sure to check out the trail maps online before you go. We've been at least three times in three different areas. There is an abandoned mine in the forest (filled in) which is neat. Pay attention to the warning signs - it's illegal to go to the mine during the winter season, or else you'll disturb the bats.
Well blazed and worn trails. Fantastic views. Very clean
Great hike although its 7 miles orange to yellow and back. Roads leading to trailhead get flooded from heavy rains so a truck is a must. We really enjoyed the hike and the views and we also loved that it's a less traveled hike off the beaten path. Trails are clearly marked I would rate this hike a moderate hike not hard as all trails has it listed.
Best bang-for-buck hiking in the region
Great hikes. Can be confusing so you're best off printing it a map and bringing it along.
Walked from otter hole to high point then to waterfalls. Wow what beauty! Twice We got turn around. The park has a digital map with GPS service. Really glad downloaded that. It saved us
Great workout, we completed a total of 9 miles we started with Green of Diamonds onto Red, White, Yellow and then to Blue.
Great place for a hike
Great trails, with amazing views of Wanaque reservoir and surrounding areas
Good place for a moderate hiking.
Very rocky but well marked trails. Very damp. Lot of tree shade throughout. Challenging trails but enjoyable
Steep but beautiful trails
Awesome place to train for ultra trail runners. Fantastic for hikers and outdoors lovers. Rugged and full of elevation with plenty of fascinating views. I suggest to go in through Otter Hole for families.
A happy place
Great views, good hiking. The first uphill is kind of tricky, but the view of NYC is worth it!
It has lakes, waterfalls, elevation changes and beautiful trees.
Great For Hiking & Rock Climbing. Trails are noticeably marked to keep one on track.
Better then expected, traversing small boulders to get across Rivers was a great experience walking across logs is a great thing to do with whoever you're with. Some parts are really challenging some parts made us realize that we have much better coordination that we originally thought. An amazing experience to share with someone .........Unless they are mad at you, then it's going to be real awkward.
One of my favorite hiking spots. Be sure to get here early though! Parking can be tight sometimes. I've seen all types of animals in the woods. Trails can be reasonably difficult for the average hiker. There are a few small waterfalls which are nice.
Loved these woods! There are long and short hikes so take your pick. The path is challenging in parts so you’ll get a good workout. Well marked and maintained. Definitely recommend it for beginners and intermediate hikers!
This is an exquisite place to ride your motorcycle or go on a nice hike. Get out and get your fresh air folks! You will be happy.you did!
Nice little hiking spot in North Jersey. We did the 7.7 mile recommended route and beyond High Point it was a little dull. Better to go in late spring, early summer because we went in the end of August and the waterfalls and streams were pretty dry. Also make sure you have the right shoes because the path is very rocky.
One hidden gem for hiking in NJ. From the peaks you can see NYC skyline on the horizon.
Great view top of mountain. Can see nyc. Long trials.
My dogs my love it more than me, but a great great hike. Not for the weak, but not hard for the inclined.
Love seeing the views along the Hewitt butler trail! Clear skies and amazing climbs. Get out there!
Heard the sound of water crashing on rocks as I strolled through the forest.
Great hiking trails, love the outdoors
Great place for hiking and having some peace surrounded by naturw
The trails themselves are nice but the people we encountered were horribly rude. 2 women refused to help us when we got a lil lost and dusk was approaching. They just told us to keep walking. Horrible human beings.
Beautiful place
My favorite place to hike can be challenging. The local authorities would like people to be prepared and bring a trail map!!! Very important
I love hiking here. So many paths with different difficulties that take you all around the mountain! Have fun and be prepared to get a good work out!
Very pretty
Great park. Lot of trails, views, streams and a river, the natural pool, picnicking spots.
Great hike. Beautiful views. A bit tough but good work out.
Beautiful location and good moderate hikes
Been hiking here 15 years these are my dogs favorite trials
Just awesome. Has some nice trails. Pretty difficult in winter when there is a lot of snow but not so much in summer. Trails have healthy balance of ups and downs.
Wonderful place to visit and home to the Stone Livingroom
Norving Green State Forest is among the very best hiking destinations in. With both challenging and moderate trails that are well maintained and marked, the Forest offers superb views, waterfalls, and other great outdoors destinations.
Awesome hike, the trek uphill is definitely worth it for the view at the top.
Made it to high point We followed the blue dot trail Lots of pretty views
Awesome mountain park for both hiking and seeing Mountain Laurel flowers in early of June.
Great Trails, well marked
Huge area with many trails.Take Blue trail to Wyanokie High Point where you have a 360 degree scenic view. You can have a commanding views of Wanaque Reservoir and Watchung Mountains. On a clear day you can see Manhattan skyline. The best parking lot for this trail is at the New Weis Center for Education off Snake Den Road. At a corner of the parking lot, take Green trail passing Highlands Natural Pool to a kiosk where you can have a trail map. From here take Blue trail to High Point. On the way you may stop by three scenic lookouts.
Very nice views and short drive from NYC, not too difficult either, so it's good for taking dogs or kids
Follow the blue trail all the way to the top for amazing views. On a clear day you can see the city!
Loved the hiking here. My husband Michael, and our furry babies had a phenomenal first time here. We have already made plans to go AGAIN!
Best
Great park.
Amazing
Norvin Green State Forest is located in Bloomingdale NJ. The undisturbed forest offers scenic views of New York Skyline, Burnt Meadow Brook and Lake Sonoma. Trails follow old logging roads and are marked clear although some trails are filled with growth. Some of the trails ends up at the New Weis Center or the Wanaque Reservoir. Trail maps are available online at nj.gov
One of the highest concentrations of hiking trails in New Jersey. A great selection of easy through moderate trails. Good family hiking options. Great views. Well marked, and laid out trails.
Great views and different challenge levels of trails. Easy to follow trail markers and a free downloadable map.
A wonderful place . Very peaceful .
Strenuous, but great
Great hiking experience. Lot of wildlife
Hiked the Caris Hill trail and it was amazing. Great park!
Norvin Green State Forest, is just amazing. I love working out here, its always a pleasure always !!!
It's my freaking back yard.
Great place for hiking. Lots of beautiful views.
Simply one of the most stunning places you can visit all year round to enjoy the beautiful location and scenery. Norvin Green State Forest has something for everyone from easy to more difficult trails. Hands down one of the best nature spots you can visit and a personal favorite.
Beautiful hike and natural pool. Great for family BBQ's and or hikes
Good place for hiking
Great hikes. Take your time and enjoy the view.
Beautiful park, nice trails but very busy on weekends.
Plenty of hiking trails to pick from. I like the one to high point, and the one to Oslo rock. Both are around 3 miles, not too hard.
A good mix of challenging and easy trails. Beautiful. But don't forget your insect repellent.
Love this place is perfect to go on a family walk. Or just hang out
My boyfriend and I did this hike last Labor Day. Awesome hike, some trails are a bit steep and Rocky, but well worth it.
Great hiking. Never crowded.
Challenging hikes, rewarding vistas. It's definitely worth coming more than once to try out multiple trails.
Serene!
A bit crowded, but an excellent hike up the mountains. The parking is rather far from the actual hiking trails - about 10-15 min walk.
Awesome hike on the Torne Trail Loop!
Hiking
A great place to hike, lots of trails and trail heads, maps are recommended as trails intersect and signed are not always obvious.
Good place for trail
Great place for hiking.
Huge park with many trails. Many entry points for the trails. Beautiful drive way to Park. Many water streams and viewing area on the trails. Check the trail maps on website before you head.
Pleasant walk. Definitely check out info for all trails, memorize name of your parking, take enough water, you know use common sense
Tough hike and maps were a little confusing but trail markers were clear. Very rocky and rough terrain. Great exercise and views!
I know this place can get real busy, but I went on a weekday during the winter and had the whole place to myself. Excellent hike, with a really good trail network. The views from the different lookouts of the surrounding area and the NYC skyline were amazing. The different forests and landscapes are excellent!
Great place for short hike.
Water falls and high mountains, very fun and challenging hike. Love it!
I live here
The view when you get to the top is worth every step!
Really like the trails here but they aren't the easiest to follow.
Beautiful hiking spot, well maintained trails, great spot for dogs, decent difficulty level. Black bears call it home so use common sense and leave then be.
Place is dope, kinda hard hikes, great view
Good place for trail. But becarefull it's forest. So expect the unexpected
Beautiful peaceful place - can you believe it is NJ?
Nice secluded park with good hills to climb, and a waterfall
Best backyard hikes. Well because norvin green is down the block from my house.
This will continue to be my go to hiking spit when I'm in a rush. Close to everything and decent trails for NJ. Can't ask for much more than that.
Great views
Great hiking and great views.
Great workout, dogs loved it.
Difficult hike, parked where the natural pool. Its the second parking lot, the one after the entrance of the trail. for us it was a little complicated with the signs because they are several trails, started with the blue sign and got to wyanokie high point (it is beautiful!!) And then we got a little lost.my time is use map (I knew about the JPS map after returning home). I didn't even know how to get to the fall! I'm definitely going back again.
Great hiking trails. Right in my backyard.
Great trials. Huge so much to do
One of the best hiking spots in NJ. I highly recommend the Cairn Hill, High Point, Buck loop. Trails are well maintained with more rugged hiking than usually expected in NJ.
Pretty well marked hike trail. View on top is pretty good. Make sure you wear hiking shoes tho as it can get rocky and has some steep climbs and you'd need to go down safely as well.
Did the whole trail and it kicked our butts. Beautiful place to hike.
Great hiking area!
Great hicking place. Family friendly just make sure to follow your color on the trees so you won't get lost
Peaceful forest with a lot of different trails of varying difficulty and length
Love this place.
Great hiking. Many options for trails to easily adjust the length of hike.
It's a nice place for walk.
Awesome hike for 360° views. Great hike, clear and marked trails with a summit that displays the reservoir and surrounding peaks.
Trails are clean, maintained, and well-marked. A great place to hike!
Beautiful forest with a wide range of trails.
Loved the trek. Easy access from Otter Hole side.
A short hike and you almost feel like you're away from it all.
Need map, trail markings not that good.
Very nice to hike here
Beautiful Vista. No waterfall, though.
Amazing hikes, tons of trails and sights to see and run ins with wild life along the way!
Beautiful place with great hikes....as always...be sure to check up all the available trails before you start heading over there....never been there in winter...excited to check out the beauty in fall
This park has one of the biggest concentrations of trails in NJ and if you google it will see several accounts of lost hikers needing police assistance. The NE section is the most difficult to navigate. If you park near the Highlands Natural Pool you'll instinctively walk up the hill and see "L" trail makers. There's no "L" trail on the map. It's baffling. We walked right by the green trail, which goes off to the left near the bottom of the hill. You'll find it... Eventually. It's better to park down by Otter Hole. The trails there are sparser and it's easier to get up to Wyanoke Point and the lookouts. Just leave plenty of time to get lost or off-track. You will. I promise.
The Best
The blue trail up and back was nice. Views were amazing! Not too many people on the trial, spent about 15 mins or more up top and was alone just about the entire time.
Beautiful and well kept!! Easy hiking trails
Nice overlook
A couple options for easy and intermediate trails. Nice views from the top. One of the closer destinations for people coming from the east or south.
Great hikes with great views
Great family hike location.
Came out for a nice hike and fishin day with kids and our friends! Always a wonderful and eventful time!
A beautiful place for a day trip with an awesome view of Manhattan.
Absolutely beautiful State Forest! One of many of Jerseys natural gems. Came upon this when I was up in North Jersey for a couple days and decided to hike much of the trails that snake around mountains, creeks, and a massively beautiful waterfall at the end of the park. Recommend this for the prepped up and ready to go hiker anyday!
Gorgeous views, easy to get alone with nature and demanding trails make Norvin Green a metropolitan-area gem for moderate hikers seeking a challenging but rewarding hike. Not much reception so download the online map or grab one from the trailhead. While the trails are dog-friendly, a 5 mile loop was extremely challenging for my very in-shape pitbull, with rocky climbs and descents. In mid-July, the trails are dotted with ripe huckleberries for picking but also PLENTY of hanging spiders (arachnophobes beware).
Short hike for a beautiful view
