REVIEWS OF Saratoga National Historical Park IN New Hampshire

Quite nice. Needs a bit more maintenance at certain parts. Informative on the battles that took place. Nice park when the weather is nice. Good for walking and biking. Can be accessed by vehicle too.

Daniel Dunn

Beautiful setting and has a lot for patrons, whether they are going for the historical value or recreational activities.

Robyn Ramsey

Beautiful any time of year. Fall is here and you should come out. Gorgeous. The roads in the park are open on weekends but closed through the week during October (2018) whilst they perform road work.

John Sullivan

Loved it. Very nice, well maintained grounds. Just wished we had more time to explore. Was kind of tough since I was in my wheelchair and took awhile to move about. We plan to go back when it's warmer and i can bring my scooter so family doesn't have to push so much

magdalena parol

Very nice place! Great and friendly staff (they really know the subject). Many historical information. Small visitor center but well organized.

Although the park has serious deferred maintenance issues, the visitor center and park is absolutely wonderful and provides a great setting to tell the story of one of the most important victories in the American revolution.

Amber H

This is a beautiful place to learn about history as well as take a nice hike, especially in the fall! I haven’t walked the whole park but would like to sometime soon and read up on what happened there in the past, it’s quite fascinating.

James Hetu

Well presented and maintained. Great place to take pets or kids to burn off some energy. Holds the only monument to Benedict Arnold in the US. And even then it doesn't mention his name...

Friendly and knowledgeable volunteer staff made the experience an educational and fun time. The park is free of charge and in beautiful shape, recalling how it looked during the Revolutionary War.

Jon

Absolutely beautiful place to go. Especially now with the fall colors it’s even more amazing. Extremely peaceful place with the main trail (Wilkinson Trail) pretty long but very worth it. Dogs are allowed which is always a plus and parking is free. Will definitely be coming back.

A must if you are a history buff or just want to know how our country started. On the 4th of July the park host a ceremony for new citizens. It is an amazing event. Go to the visitors center first so you know what happened here, then follow the road to all the sites. The park rangers and interpreters are very good to explain what you are seeing. Make sure to ask them questions.

Bryan Culver

Well maintained, valuable historical site. Key battles from the revolutionary war were fought here. The park does a great job educating kids and adults about the history of the area.

Bryan V Spellman

Finally, after 25 years I finally got to the park. Do the auto tour for sure. Hole of you can. Get out and walk.

Xing Pfeffer

Great hiking trails. Make sure to bring water to stay hydrated even on the easy trails; especially if you are hiking with your pups!

Jonathan Kemp

Great place to take the family to learn about early USA history and to enjoy the outdoors. The park is now a free national park. Rangers are friendly and informative. There are a few places to picnic and see the Hudson River and Vermont's Green Mts. History Geeks visit the lone boot monument dedicated to the unmentioned hero turn traitor.

Benjamin Hochberg

Mike Altrogge

This place is so beautiful and rich in history. This is a must see if you are in the are and I highly recommend allotting time to to bike or hike.

This park is perfectly suitable for hiking on a sunny day. Be aware of your belongings and have some good shoes with good grip for hiking. The park as lots of steep and small green fields.

Mark Anderson

Great self guided tour, just follow the one way loop. Even better if you can get out and follow the paved paths to see more.

Kimberly Beward

Very informative. The tour offered by cell phone made it super easy to follow

Marie-Anne Guillot

We liked the park and all the history there

Don Davidson

The site of the battle that turned the Revolutionary War in the Americans' favor and led the French to declare war on Great Britain. You can gain insights into each side's strategy and what factors led to the American victory. The terrain has been maintained much like it was in 1777.

Paul Baumgartner

Beautiful & historic site.

Janice Reeves

This is a beautiful place to go horseback riding, hiking, skiing, biking, walk your dog....you name it. If you want to be surrounded by nature and beauty, the park is the place for you. Historical markers are educational and easy to understand. Makes history come alive for both adults and children.

Frank Bacon

What an absolutely beautiful piece of history! I wasn't expecting some of the impressive views during the tour, especially stop 9. This is a terrific destination that is complimented by a friendly, knowledgeable staff and I would recommend this place to history buffs, hikers and horseback riders!

Adirondack Eddie

Very nice staff trails to walk a 20 movie to watch great local history

Jody Matthews

Beautiful autumn day. Wonderful day of history. Battles that made our great nation.

Miguel Munoz

That's a beautiful place n 10 miles bikes ride love it

J Williams

Quiet, simple, and historically significant park. This is the place where the Colonial Army won their first major victory against the mighty British Empire. The events here were pivotal in convincing France to assist the Revolutionary cause. Benedict Arnold played a big part in the battle. I highly recommend Stops 2, 3, 7 and 9. Both 3 and 9 are great places to take a break. Bring a blanket or a picnic. For those who have been into “Hamilton” the musical, the Schuyler family home is only 8 miles north.

Joanne McKeon

Always enjoy spending time here. Brought my children many times while they were growing up.

Heather Cummings

This was a first place I seen a bike repair spot very clean

Zhou Frank

It is good for take a rest. Not enough exhibits

Larry Krainson

Much more history was made here than I knew about. Very interesting and worthwhile tour. Go to the Saratoga Monument after leaving here. It's about 8 miles down the road.

Cody Byrd

Fantastic experience that any American in the area should check out. Come see an important piece of history, with the battle that turned the tides of war. The area is also beautiful

Frank Krieger

Nice visitor center With a great staff. A good park loop to drive or bike to see the battlefield.

Nick S

The history alone is worth the trip. Visitor Center offers a great, albeit dated, video of the imporance of the battle. Diorama and artifacts are informative. Staff is super friendly and helpful. After that, take the driving tour. Not only do you get a sense of the massive scope of the battle and its terrain, but several of the stops offer amazing vistas of the surrounding Hudson Valley. This battle was instrumental in the country's formation and should not be missed.

Neal Norton Jr

Best place to bike/train

Tony Medici

A beautiful Park a truly must see a huge part of American history many sacrifices many Heroes God Bless America

Cathy Ballone

I have gone here a few times to go running. I really like their variety of trails and how they have their educational boards displayed throughout the park. Definitely worth the trip, I will be back.

Andrew Murin

Great history, beautiful place.

Derek Olsen

A great visiter center and hiking trails

P Koz

Sethanon V

Lovley walk with a side of history

Prabhakara Rao Aravapalli

Very quiet , serene park with lot of historical importance.

Thomas Ritz

Such a beautiful place along the Hudson River. The sacrifice and bloodshed here in 1777 was so critical to the War for independence. A blessing to visit and a serene place to hike bike or drive. Open dawn to dusk, sadly the driving road is only open till evening.

Jackie Harmon

Very historical very informative and I walked across the trails where the battlefield was. Thank you for your time and consideration everything was put together nicely

James McRae

An actual major battlefield from the Revolutionary War. A major destination stop for us whilst on vacation traveling thru the area. The visitor center is great and has an led map representing the battle that took ace there. A must see before driving thru the park

Jeanann Riedell

Free to get in! Fantastic historical displays. Beautiful grounds. Nice staff. Definitely recommend.

Navera Moritori

Incredible, incredible place to visit in historic NY. Been coming here since I was a kid and I love it more each time. The Rangers are friendly, helpful and very knowledgeable on every aspect of the park. Prices at the visitor center are more than reasonable and you'll enjoy a wealth of variety in educational materials and souvenirs, even the naturalist will find books on local flora and fauna. Birdwatchers will see no shortage of migratory songbirds, raptors and thrushes including the eerie song of the Wood Thrush echoing throughout the battlefield.

Goran Casson

Perfect place to have a walk or a bike. For someone who have interests in history this would be a place for you too. A very well-kept area. Staffs were knowledgeable and nice too.

Chris Stratton

The historical significance is astounding, and standing in the same spot as a pivotal revolutionary war battle just fills you with awe. There is a driving tour with 10 stops, all of which include maps and markers to give you a sense of how the battle unfolded and where each scene took place. There are plenty of trails that look beautiful, and the views in this park are just incredible. Views of the hudson river and the mountains behind are tough to walk away from. Its a really cool place, with tons of history and gorgeous views.

Chris Saslow

Nice and quiet with great bikes access. If you see a volunteer enactor talk with them.

Frank Stoner

Beautiful area. Great place to let your head clear. I was fortunate to come upon an in progress harp concert . She was a wonderful player which was the perfect backdrop to the beautiful nature there.

Nathan Deremer

A great small national park - we learned a lot and enjoyed both the history and wildlife found in the park.

Carla Heitzman

My husband and I had a lovely trip in Saratoga Springs. We had dinner at the Mouzon House, stayed at the Brentwood Hotel and then breakfast at Hattie’s. Everything was wonderful. Before heading back to NJ we decided to go on a scenic drive through the National Park. We read that there was a pretty 12 mile loop. The road was wide, smooth, had few bends and was nearly empty. Soon after we entered we passed a police car on our right. We were driving slowly because we were enjoying the view. The officer stopped us and said he had clocked me going “upwards of 41” going down the hill (that he was waiting atop). Apparently it was a 30 mph limit, very sporadically marked. He took my license, registration and insurance to check and everything checked out. So he let us off with a written warning. (Bizarrely, when he came back he said, and the warning said, I was going 43.) I’m not sure what the point was. Perhaps it’s only worth it to give people tickets if something else is amiss: no physical insurance card or expired registration etc. Or maybe there are a lot of wanted criminals who take drives through that park? Luckily everything was up to date and present for me (and I’m not wanted for any crime). But that didn’t stop it from being a very negative experience to end our otherwise lovely visit. We left the park right away and will not be back. So... I can’t really comment on anything in the park but can give the advice to make sure you drive very slowly especially down hills. My suggestion to the park? Maybe you could set up a toll booth to collect an entrance fee? Seems a much nicer way to fund your park.

Jacob Cross

Great 9 mile bike / driving route around the park. Large table map that shows troop movement, in the visitor center. Home to the Boot Monument (my current favorite, due to the story, look it up)

Aline Cardoso

Great Place to visit in Saratoga county. It is free. It has a walking trail and a self-guided car tour.

Yvonne Dunn

Had a great work out with Patricia, Ron and Patrick. Can't wait to do it again

Jennifer DiCioccio

nothing like walking in the footsteps of revolutionary war heroes to make you extra-nostalgic for western civilization now that it's poised to collapse. the quiet just adds to the poignancy of looking at a memorial to the 235th anniversary of the battle and wondering whether there will be anyone left to mark the 250th who appreciates the story of this country's founding enough to celebrate it. at any rate, the grounds of the battlefield are beautiful and you can use your cell phone to take a tour and learn about the battle.

Theresa Wolf

Free national park. Must see. Amazing rangers. Free battlefield audio tour. What?! Totally awesome!! This place is the best. Dont miss it!

Jeremiah Salyer

Great historical place. Small gift shop. No entrance or parking fee to see the visitor center. The visitor center has tons of stuff to see pictures, small theatre holds like 10-15 people, dress up uniforms coats and hats for kids, battle scenes set up with lights so you can follow along with the audible explanations of who was fighting where. My 3 yr old loves the dress up stuff. My 9 yr old has really enjoyed the children's program that they do annually.

Jason St John

A top shelf National Park, my family feels very lucky to live so close to such a lovely place.

Gladys Pabon

Great place

James Kasischke

Pivotal revolutionary war battleground. This is a great place for walking, biking, and driving to see the crucial locations of the battle. The museum is small but has good interpretive exhibits. There is a good video presentation and a well done lighted map. Staff was friendly.

Jason R

Thank god George Washington had the foresight to send Benedict Arnold and Morgan's Marksman to Saratoga, or Gates would have probably lost. Arnold did the majority of actual leading while Gates hid in his tent. Great Battlefield, can drive the entire field and guide yourself with an audio tour. The Park Rangers at the visitor center inside are very helpful. It is a great thing that people can visit this field and see history for themselves

Erin Malsow

Overall it was nice to walk through the park and it does a good job of explaining what happened if you listen to the mobile descriptive audio. It could be better with new interpretive markers, it's all cracked and faded and it would have added to the experience. Staff and rangers are very knowledgeable, nice and helpful. Overall a great family experience, but be ready to walk!

Kevin Lewis

But only if you're interested in history. The Visitor's Center has a good film, "animated" battle map, and timeline; the battlefield drive has good stops and descriptive markers; the rangers and volunteers we met were knowledgeable and friendly. It's just not for someone who doesn't have an interest in the history of the Revolutionary War.

Anthony Mainella

Free access, beautiful views, horse trails, biking, walking, drive through... it has all the options. Bring water because there is not fresh water inside the park. The fall is the best time to enjoy the views!

Mareiska Elliott

Very nicely done interpretive area. Staff was very informative and helpful.

Wayne Geiser

We had a nice time riding through the park. A friend said there was an .mp3 file we can download to narrate the ride. We'll have to go back.

Brian White

Great trails and a wonderful scenic history.

Stephen Huse

The Park road is 9 miles long and provides a good view of the battlefield and the British and American lines. The visitor center has an informative movie about the battles on September 19th and October 7th. There is also a landscape diorama with moving lights showing large-scale troop movements during the battles.

Hank Marks

This park has really nice hiking trails and offers lots of history on the park. There is a gift shop connected to a museum and there is a movie that plays. When I was there the tick advisory was pretty high so I suggest preparing to hike in tick country. The staff are great and know a ton about the park.

lokesh chowdary

Good place to spend a day. I was driving and stopping by at all the stops to read about the history . It explains about a Battle which took place against the British. There are also bike trails if bring a bike here

Jeff LaRock

Great Park! Good trails to walk, Rangers are awesome and informative, the drive is really nice.

Gene Boyer

Grounds are well maintained and visitors center personnel are very knowledgeable. The walk to many battlefield sites is nice but be prepared , it's not all level.

Stefan Brand

Great park! Lots of history and wildlife!

michael ketzak

What a wonderful piece of American history, staff are fabulous, always happy to tell a story or explain history.

Lauri Kearney

Staff in visitors center are fantastic!

Graceful585

Great historical site! Wonderful place to ride bikes around each of historical sites as long as it's not too hot and you are in relatively good shape. Hiking the trails is also a great way for families to get out with their children.

Jack Melvin

Awesome staff. Great views. Free park. Lots of interesting history. Will maintained grounds. Highly recommend.

Gail Aiken

Always a great place to walk. Able to park in main lot even with Federal shut down.

Deanna J. Lohnes

Educational and Enjoyable.

Ryan Hutton

Beautiful place! This park is the location of the most pivotal battle in the American Revolution. The small museum is nice, but what really stands out is the beauty of the grounds which can be covered on foot or by an 11 Mile road. All of which are free! Great park and the rangers were also very helpful.

Lee Coye

Beautiful, well groomed park with a lot of historical significance, some artifacts. Large parking lot, and the points of interest can be accessed by foot, car, or bike. Best experienced on foot, as there are a lot of trails not accessible by bike or car.

Celeste Nichols

Very clean kept place. Beautiful sights!

frank palmisano

lot of useless walking.

Tina Spaulding

Beautiful and more historic than I realised. We went back there next morning to see more. The rangers are very helpful

Tom Cramer

Very good. Better than I thought, especially the room about Benedict Arnold

Tom Thompson

A true gem and such an interesting part of our countries history.

Bryan Hoffman

Awesome, well for history buffs. A very strategic defining battle during the revolutionary war. You can walk, pretty much, the entire battle field. See the gun emplacements and get a feel for the terrain. The diorama is really cool in the museum as well.

Tom M

Wonderful visitor's center and gift shop. We bought several books. We drove the access road and walked to the various points of interest. We also viewed several archeological excavations!

Mike Pebler

Nice ride motorcycle.

jeromy petch

Well preserved with a nice visitors center

Martin Cohen

Wonderful venue. Easy to digest American Revolution history.

pcrickety

A must see place!

Whiskey Drinker

Awesome site. As a ranger myself, I love walking in the footsteps of soldiers in battles that changed the fate of the nation. Add a star if you're a Revolutionary War buff like me.

Donna Pink

A great find. Fascinating history, lots of well maintained trails.

Steven Digena

The park is always lovely, with some of the most amazing views. Staff are always polite, informed and helpful. For me specifically this has been an advantage as the park staff and the museum at the visitors center has been a great aid. The special exhibits are always Fascinating. Specific credit should be given for the maintenance of the park, especially at the new and very fascinating Victory Woods section. I recommend anyone with an interest in History or simply the beauty of the Adirondack Foothills visit.

Justin Golub

Nice visitor center with some good historical displays. The rangers on duty were very informative and friendly. You can drive the 11mi historical site loop, or walk a shorter 4mi loop.

Igor Ostrovsky

It was my first trip to a national park so big it requires driving. The place is a memorial to a large scale battle during Revolutionary War. Well restored, well marked, with many monuments to the fallen. Beautiful scenery all the way - difficult to envision people killing each other here.

Vern Harris

Excellent day hike

Kayly Reinicke

Amazing state park! We have gone twice on Memorial Day, and have had a great time! The walk/hike around the park is great, and is great for either a relaxing walk or more serious hiking. The staff in the visitor center is extremely knowledgeable, and can answer any questions about history or the park itself!

Jennifer Palermo

This is a beautiful place with lots of History. There are lovey hiking trails and horse trails. Also a 12 mile paved One Way Road perfect for walking, cycling Etc. Unfortunately...perhaps due to Government funding cuts, the informative signage about the history along this stopping points on the road, is really deteriorating. The visitors center helps to make up for that problem. It's a lovely place to go any time of year to get out and experience nature. Lots of wildlife here.

Robert Dempsey

A beautiful park with a great history. I was not very interested in revolutionary war history until I visited here. I now have a huge appreciation for what our American Patriots did to secure our independence. The museum is small but fantastic. I love the display with the lights and narration describing the activity during several days of battle. Go when the actors are there. They are dressed up and tell the audience what their daily lives were like.

SAW antz

Very cool historic place to visit is a must.

Christine purpura

This was a wonderful experience. I can’t recommend it enough. There were interactive stations at each stop along the 4 mile tour loop. They explained the events and historical background of the individual sites to allow you to look around and picture the scene as it is being described. Not to mention the beautiful countryside and vistas along the way. We drove this self guided tour, but it can be walked and biked as well. I can’t wait to come back with the bikes!

B

Great place to bring kids to teach them stuff they wont be taught much about in school these days. Junior Ranger Program available without a lot of time needed to complete, which is great if you are on the road and compressed for time. Staff was friendly. Was clean and lots of history to read about in the visitors center. 4 passport stamps available here: Saratoga, Erie, Hudson and Champlain

Dave Lang

Great Park Rangers and a fantastic audio tour! A just see if you are in the area!

Carl Freidhoff

Staff person at visitor center provided good info for our visit. Center contains great info and exhibits.

Sandra Barton

Wonderful historian on staff who was extremely knowledgeable. Other members of the staff were welcoming and helpful. The re-enactors who were present were not only informative but accurate. The loop drive was pleasant but the signage was outdated and weathered. Nice displays inside but a little updating would really set this site above others.

jake hogan

Staff was very knowledgeable and helpful

Joseph Rodriguez jr.

Pretty good and boring

Lacey Johnson

Beautiful trail and it is very large. If you’re into history I would also recommend. They have historical plaques throughout the trails.

ben heesten

Great place to bike, learn, take photos, geocache

Chris ML

Saratoga is a beautiful park and probably one of, if not the most important battles, in our history. Being a history buff myself I've got a pretty good handle on what happened there in, at least, better than everage detail. That said, I think the park needs to improve a few things. The battle can be confusing given all the units engaged over different times of the 2 days of battle. The signs need to be redone and they must add more to show more of the fighting. They may also, if possible, want to consider reconstructing a couple of the outlying works, or maybe even the Breyman Redoubt in its entirety. I really enjoy the park and will continue to go when I can. The park staff is very knowledgeable and kind. They have a good museum and movie. The 3d map with the lights is particularly good.

Christa Galitello

This was a fantastic park. The Visitor Center has maps and a link/QR code to their site with an audio tour of the whole park. Most of the stops have areas to walk on to the fields and monuments, as well as information boards. There were also a ton of deer everywhere. The whole drive along with all of the stops and walks took me 3.5 hours. I loved it. There are plenty of trails to park at and walk. The only really rough trail was at the Fraser Burial Site, the very last stop. It's long compared to the others and the hill gets pretty steep. Overall, this was a great experience. Wear good waterproof shoes, because the ground got pretty soggy in places.

Edward VanWormer

Great place,excellent biking.

J D

Such an amazing park in a beautiful location. There is so much history to see here. The visitor's center is great and overlooks the main battlefield with rolling hills in the distance. The Wilkinson trail is great and leads you past Benedict Arnold's boot monument as well. There is also a fantastic section overlooking the Hudson. The cannons really make you feel as if you are still in the late 1700s. I highly recommend it if you are into history and enjoy hiking!

Joe McTague

Beautiful park. Rich in history. Rode the loop by bike, great day

Richard Murdock

Nice day. Will go back when it is not so windy. Visitor center is very informative. Great map that lights up to show how the battles progressed with an audio naratve.

Michael Brooks

This is a must see for anyone who needs to feel more connected to our democracy. It's a great place to leave politics at home and respect those who created our freedom.

Sarah Gannon

Great place for viewing wildlife,, introducing children to our Nations history.

Logan Altrichter

This was a very nice walk. The information desk attendants were very pleasant.

Art Mirrow

If you run into volunteer Rick Rosen in the park he will really bring the battle to life for you! :)

Steve Schwinn

Wonderful historic park!

Christie Bell

Wonderful drive, about 25 minutes if you do not stop and experience the 10 historic markers, signs, buildings, battle sights. Make the time, you will be glad you did.

Becksimilian

Beautiful views, scenic drive, and tons of signs/monuments at every stop. Any Revolutionary War buff should come through, plus it's absolutely free of charge!

Molly Sandling

Very informative rangers, clear exhibits

Richard Tucker

Great preservation of the battlefield. Excellent tour and explanation of the battlefield. The park rangers were all very knowledgeable and answered all questions both of the informed tourist and the beginner and answered them each so they learned what they wanted to know. And it is a beautiful park in a beautiful part of the the country

Linda Ki

Wonderful historic site for all.

Petra Holden

This is a gorgeous, FREE(!) National Park. It is well maintained, with a 4 and 1/2 mile hiking trail through the woods and plains. An associated audio walkthrough can be accessed with your cell phone, it's a fantastic resource that describes the historical importance and facts surrounding the battle for American independence at Saratoga. There is also a nine mile driving trail within the park with its own audio tour. Plus, there is a nature center with free activities four children and a 20-minute movie about the battlefield. This park is a fantastic free resource and should be visited by anyone interested in history or in nature.

Trevor James

Beautiful park preserving an important piece of American Revolution history. The trail was laid out nicely but very soggy in the spring. Of course that is to be expected here. Loved the volunteers and the information was very well presented.

Adrian Dortic

Very beautiful setting. Well worth the trip!

Stephen G

Very interesting historic site. The visitors center gives you enough ways to look at what happened here to feel a part of it . Well delineated when out on the driving part between British and revolutionary troops. Only thing to make this a 5-stsr attraction is to run a guided shuttle around the loop and explain in detail what took place. Worth a visit since they turned the tide of the Revolutionary war.

Ruth Holmes

Very interesting 10-stop car tour. Some stops were too steep for me. I appreciated the forewarning!

John Bryant

Wonderful.. a lot of important history. Small but monumental part of US history.

Ams Teneicken

I loved this tour for many reasons. This is a self-guided 10 mile driving tour. You drive the tour with an app. They put a lot of information on the app you use that brings you to different spots along the route. But before you drive the tour watch the integrated map in the back room of the visitors center. It's really worth your time to reconnect all you've forgotten from grammar school. Take the children so they get a better understanding of what was important about fighting for our independence.

Lowell Markins

I would have given the facility a 4 star rating but the outstanding volunteers were more than enough to push the rating to a full 5 star. There is a fiberoptic presentation that provides excellent detail on the battlefield activity and strategy. While the displays and the video added to the detailed accounting, they also provided additional information as to how this battle played into the overall struggle for independence. If you take in all the visitor center offers you can easily visualize what was happening when you are at the tour stopping points. The digital recordings available for smartphones helps also.

Don Waldron

Love spending time here with my kids learning our country's history
