REVIEWS OF Bear Brook State Park IN New Hampshire

Great place to relax and go in the water.not to crowded there

Rob Talmadge

Awesome mountain biking trails

Ricky T.

Beautiful but dangerous. I uploaded an updated puc of that bridge. Over grown and run down. And i know its the woods but the chewable tick and flea PLUS collar wasnt even enough to protect my baby. I had to pull out 12 ticks of different age & type off of him; its infested. I was so worried

kevinrocks kevinrocks

It was magnificent.

Frederick Stearns

It is a nice park however I was disappointed to learn that it is off limits to sportsman other than a small area allowing archery.

Lindsay Schultz

Really great facilities - perfect little tent sites! $25/night for drive up tent site w fire pit, you can buy wood at the camp store for $6 - pretty okay deal

Juan Vicente Villegas

Great for family outings, birthdays, BBQ's, fishing, canoeing, trail walks, mountain biking, etc. Overall a great place!

John Toomey

Was there for the day. Nice trails. Pond at day lot small.

Todd Olsen

We loved it here. Holy cow the little store is amazing. Everything was booked up but we were able to secure a walk up site. There was some horrible people from Massachusetts play rap music too loud but the facilities were great. The campsites were a perfect size. The playground was top notch. The staff was amazingly friendly. Loved the beach and the trails as well. Great park.

antonio mafera

camped in the cabins. good stuff. remember to get quarters for the showers!

Mike Sullivan

I wish ATVs we're allowed all year

John M Peterson

Excellent and extensive mountain bike trail network. Very nice camping area with beach.

Thomas Allen

We passed by the "lost trail" Police made a shooting range Military helicopters fly 100 feet above you Unwelcome to join Never give up

Johanna Lyons

Beautiful park

Keith Harmon

Nice fishing kids had a blast

Amy Raymond

Went there for NH state parks first day hike. Well organized event with fire pit and hot chocolate after the hike on trail. Good place to bring our dog for some exercise.

Areina Fierce

Small and boring in the winter, but will probably do the trick if you need to jump in the water in the summer.

Lori Batchelder

The Catamount trail area is in decent condition considering the rain we got last night. There are some puddles in spots, but not too bad.

Kelly Souza

I like the playground the most, it's big and modern. It's a beautiful natural park in general but it's expensive to get in depending on what your doing.. $8. I believe. This is not worth it to us to just let our 3 year old use an outdoor playground and run through the grass and it would be nice if they offered options for that. However it's great for family functions ..we rented the location right above the lake and it was very picturesque. It was clean, huge and a grill to use. The lake is pretty mucky. People swim in it all Summer long I'm assuming for lack of another swim hole near by but it's just yucky to me. Sand is nice and clean though. Bring in your bag for garbage. Looks like fishing might be good here to as there is more to the water then just the swim area. Walking trails. Some historical landmarks as well.

I wasn’t going to write a review but i feel i expected a completely different experience. We showed up to our camping reservation about 730 pm. The road was extremely confusing and there was no signs so we had to wing it with no cell service. when getting to our site we realized there’s barely any trees between sites and they are extremely close - whatever, manageable - the issue with the sites was quiet time was absolutely not enforced. People walked extremely close to our tent which was in the middle of our site and shined their lights INTO our tent, no idea why but go away. Our site neighbors decided to start a fire at 1230 - fires are suppose to be out by 12 and all they did was scream and howl (literally). I was going to voice my complaint this morning but decided it wouldn’t change a thing since i heard the security personnel discussing a complaint from the night prior in which nothing happened. The bathrooms were also extremely unkept and yuck to say the least. I paid for the whole weekend but we won’t be back tonight.

John V

Little under maintained, but a great place to spend a day with the family. There’s a playground, and a swimming spot. Ok hiking trails.

Romaya Irving

Just an ordinary hiking trail nothing spectacular. The trail map is terrible.

Jesus Matta

Great vision place

Daniel Ehramjian

Dont get lost like we did. Camp ground "up the hill and then left" is actually left at the wooden cabin on the left

Derik Goodine

This sign I just down the road from the State park road (Deerfield Road) off RT 28 at the town line between Allenstown and Pembroke! Stop on your way and takes pictures with you and the bears, but don't block the sign so others know where to go to see them. There are two other signs and 4 more bears to be found intown Allenstown!

william parker

It's a wonderful place to spend the day with the family playing games doing a little swimming there's a little small store you can buy and refreshments the park is well-maintained and the staff there was very pleasant

Serdar Ayan

Great way to learn to Mountain bike

Lynette Cornell

The map at the parking lot trailhead could stand to have some improvements made on it since some of the terrain has changed since it was created. If I didn't have hiking experience, I would have been confused by how things are marked, especially the trails once you're in the woods a bit. Very nice trails and serene area. We went in the winter so the trails were very icy but it was still very enjoyable to navigate.

Jessica Garrison

Not what I expected at all

Walter Simpson

Really nice place to fish

Sandra Thompson

Great venue for our family reunion. Pavillion was awesome, playground for the kids and a nice beach and place to swim.

Jesse

A great camping experience.

Dave Diamond

Great sight 25

Great camp ground! Family friendly, playground, swimming area, hiking trails. Can’t wait to go again!

Stephanie Morton

We had our wedding at the shelter pavilion. The people at BBSP were wonderful. The folks at the gate help direct people to the right place. They clean (sweep floors, clear off tables) at 7am the morning of. We were able to rent the place the day before to get a lot of stuff set up and they locked stuff in the bathroom for us overnight. The bathrooms were well stocked. For those looking, I’d highly recommend this as a space to host an outdoor DIY wedding. The field provides a great open space for people to run around and play games. The pavilion looks beautiful with lights hanging from the beams. For a daytime wedding, depending on how much you have going on, setup does get a little time crunched with the restrictions on when you can get in in the morning.

Danielle Clark

Huge park, great, wide trails. Lots of mountain bikes out but a dog walk was still possible. Beautifully shaded.

Janine Davies

Fun area for walking dog and hiking. Way too many bugs.

Tabitha Page

Had to take a risk to beat the heat which wasn't the best but not the fault of the park. Just think they should allow free entrance when a family is only trying to take a quick swim and play on the playground for an hour instead of charging 12 dollars to take a risk.

Colin Reynolds

My happy place.

jolene thompson

Nice place. Clean and enjoyed our time here

Xiomara Colon

The place is beautiful; my kids had a blast both times we went. However, we did have an issue with the attendant the second time we went. Not only was she rude, she basically catechized my daughter because she didn't believe she was only 10yrs old (kids over 11 pay adult prices).

Owl Perkins

My back yard abutted this park growing up. In a sense it was my back yard. It's a beautiful, low-key place to explore. Check out Hall Mountain.

Chris B

Bear brook trail was nice. Used a pass from my library to get free parking, but I'm not sure if that's the case moving forward as the ranger stated it was the first time she had seen such a pass.

Rozy Hamel

Very pretty!!

Jaclyn D'Aguanno

My boyfriend and I camped here in July, 2017 and we had a great time! There were many private campsites and the people around were respectful about the quite hours. Wood was 5$ which is a good price. There were bathrooms near by and the store has a ton of things in case you forget something. Beach area is nice and the lake is a good size. We rented kayaks which was great and we loved the hike around the lake. There are some night critters, but I don't think they're the dangerous kind. Highly recommend.

KitKat Hebert

I've been going there since I was a little kid. Very peaceful and relaxing

Mikaela Reisman

We camped here for three nights last week and it was enjoyable as always. We've been coming for years and have our chosen couple of sites we go back to because they're tucked away and still near enough to the water and bathroom. The staff are always pleasant and firewood is pretty cheap. Unfortunately the last campers before us left a good dozen cigarettes at the site that weren't picked up, but that's the only negative.

Crystal Wiltshire

Great trails gorgeous day. Went back over Memorial Weekend wearing tick spray and came out after 30 min of trails woth over 50 plucked from our dog and 13 from the 3 of us. So bad right now..please be careful!!

Craig Schaepe

Best mtb trails in the area

Miska Hadik

Amazing park of trails and ponds. Great place to hike, bike and camp

Taylor Mondor

The trails are fine for a hike with a dog or infant . For a bike however, they lack flow and fun. It has alot of potential. Plenty of space. For some reason it's not put to use. For mountain biking anyway.

Paul Gallagher

Mtn biking beat in the state. Nice hiking too.

Joshua Anderson

Great staff. great place. All around fun. Highly recommended

Diane Lafrance

Great place for everyone of all ages. New or experienced hikers, rock climber's alike. The beauty of it all right in NH. our own back yard

tim w.

Great place to spend the day hiking. Beautiful drive from Dover New Hampshire. Looking forward to returning soon as possible.

Steven Ackerman

I love this park and have been going here over 20 years. I have spent many afternoons shooting archery, hunting , swimming and hiking here and think the state does a terrific job of providing a good experience in all areas. I also have received a lot of good feedback from the Mt bikers so you might want to check it out. C U there!

Richard Williams

Good place to camp

Dague Clark

A nice State park. One of many in NH.

Green Shock

Very good for a group of people to go. There are many trails, many ponds for swimming, fishing, and canoeing and kayaking there are other bodies of water for fishing too. The campground has access to one pond, a camping store, a baseball/softball field, a trail, and restrooms and fresh water. The day area has another pond, multiple bodies of water as well as restrooms and many trails.

Uji Servai

Bear Brook State Park is great to camp with family and friends. The campsites are very spacious. Beaver Pond is beautiful and there were pretty lotuses all around. Do recommend to go kayaking there it's very pretty. We went with friends on a long weekend and had so much fun. During the nights the sky is so pretty on a clear day near the pond where you can see the stars. There is a little store with everything you might need for camping like ice, firewood, candies, bug repellant, etc. It's a great getaway to be surrounded in nature for a long weekend. The only thing to look out for is there were alot of mosquitoes and bugs, so please make sure to carry insect repellant and the restrooms need to be cleaned more often. Make sure to bring quarters to use for the showers. But overall a good camping experience.

Fabio De angelis

So peaceful I will reccomend to everyone

Alexis Bussieres

I tried booking on labour day weekend, and there was 1 site available for saturday-monday, but they would not let me reserve by phone and the site would not allow me to reserve. There was simply NO way for me to reserve the site online/by-phone, and the site ended up being EMPTY for no reserve. What a shame...

Lynda Mazzocca

Good hiking

Andrew Sauder

Nice level tent sites separated from the RVs. Check-in/reservation process is nonsensical so be prepared.

Chris Dillman

Beautiful place with great accommodations!

Scott Goodwin

I hate telling everyone about this place, because we LOVE going here! But wanted to make sure they got the review they deserve. Be back in July!

William Hayne

Awesome network of intermediate/advanced single track.

Jennifer Richardson

Great hike for the family

Stephen Budau

Beautiful walking trails swimming pond. And a campground

Tarik Borogovac

Mosquitos! Huge swarms everywhere and at all hours of the day/night and very aggressive. Unbearable and inhumane! They should shut the place down as a medical hazard. The nature is great, and actually camped here three years ago as well, with almost no mosquitos. This year (labor day weekend 2018) had incredible numbers.

cheri booth

First visit and I grew up in the area. Will be back

Ruth R Larrabee

The sites are large and very nice. Good heavy large picnic table and large fire ring at each site. The restrooms need attention. Most of the lights in the ladies room are burned out. They need to be cleaned note frequently. The showers all need grab bars and more heavier duty hooks, and some kind of bench in each one. The bathhouse needs more ventilation.

Warren Wasson

Great hiking trails

Ruth Hynes

Very clean, fun for young kids.

Theo Martey

Wonderful place for the family for a weekend getaway! We love it over there! The kids gets to fish, swim, bbq and play at the play ground!

Craig Mabie

Great run and hike to the top of Bear Hill! Thanks for maintaining great trails.

Ron Hamel

Quite and no street lights.

Mohammed Zafar

The camp staff are very helpful and friendly, making this one of the best managed camping places in the area.

Bennion Archer

Very XC oriented trails. some tech, some flow, but overall pretty flat and mellow.

Earl Burlstein

Good place to ride during the winter. Atv snowmobile dirt bikes mountain bikes Haven't stayed in the summer. But I will.

Gavin Ayling UK

Beautiful nature including ducks and evidence of deer. Just a shame about the ticks. We found six dog ticks on my wife... Time for the US government to take action?

Phil Erwin

This Park is amazing! Great for any activity!

SUSAN WILKES

great well maintained hiking trails

Tri-City Bicycles N.H.

I love you Bear Brook. Your trails are sweet. My bike tires like to greet your oh so loamy goodness. You rocks and roots and other protuberances tickle my suspension. In a nice way, not nasty. Unless I am going fast looking for that elusive Strava KOM. Because without trophies, we have nothing. Until next time you sweet Hemlock 123, rest easy.

Paul Letendre

Drove 2hrs each way to ride here. Worth every minute

Michael Taylor

Went for a hike on the boy scout fitness loop. Freaking hilarious hike. Well maintained and my fiance giggled the whole time. For sure going back but be wary of the tick apocalypse that's happening. Found nearly a dozen on me afterwards.

Keith Kimball

One of the best state parks in NH.

Class Act Racing

We took the time to explore the park via MTB. An amazing beautiful park with lots to check out, the 40 miles of trails and 10,000 acres were fun! A great place to ride with lots of different singletrack trails, Doubletrack, fun descents, long climbs and great views! The riding here can accommodate all abilities with many well know trails. Be sure to check out: Hemlock in the northwest corner, a fast, flowy, mostly flat singletrack Chipmunk: singletrack that parallels Podunk Road Alpe D'huez: Both up or down. With a name like that how can you not? Little Bear up, Big Bear down: awesome way to finish up by the parking lot. A couple of nice little launches on the way down.

Amy Dostie

I wish there were a better detailed map of the entire park.

Wendy Glass

Nature, relaxing.

Tammy Hawkes

Nice clean beach, great playground. Wide open field to run in, plenty of picnic tables and grills to stay for the day.

Trisha Fortier

Great trails❤

Ryan Flynn

Great camping, archery range, and awesome mountain biking trails

Mike Dow

Beautiful place I have lived here for 35 years

Trevor LaFauci

It boggles the mind that the biggest state park is simply incapable of properly marking its trails. I've never been to a park where everyone you meet on the trails is either confused by the maps, disoriented, or outright lost. It's embarrassing that this happens and that every review mentions this is a problem yet nothing seems to be done about it.

Christopher Richard

Great hiking.... the only thing is that he trails are not clearly marked with colors, making it difficult to find specific trails you might be looking for. The swimming hole is wonderful though

Daniel Vezina

It sucked. The trails where all over grown. There where no picnic area but at the park. Doesn't look like they kept up with anything put the main park.

Joe Lehman

I pulled up to the gate with a cheerful happy smiling young woman, and I introduced myself said I'm new to the area what can i do here with my lady and my dogs? I was given a breif overall description of everything they have to offer! I dont have much money and there is options for everyone ! Cant wait to setup a day health wise to be able to go try and enjoy the facility.

Matthew Schuff

Awesome mountain biking in southern NH. If you don't want to drive to Vermont or northern NH, this is the spot.

Nancy Burkett

Great trails for mountain biking. Various skill levels can ride here depending in which trail you take. Beach area is small but nice.

Chris L

Small area to swim. Not the cleanest park, trash all over the place and not one trash can in sight.

Timothy Parsons

Love Bear Brook State Park. The park is clean and we'll maintained. Trails are clearly marked. Great for hiking and mountain biking. Park also has swimming, camping and picnicking.

Steve fox

Bear Brook State Park is a big place. I have been to many state parks in New England, (my main sport is mountain biking) and Bear Brook is awesome. Filled with a variety of trails. I read about the trails online, downloaded a map (They give you one at check in) then I travelled there and spent a nice day riding the trails and taking pictures. What an adventure. After, my family and I like to eat at Rodeo in Concord and that capped a day of excellent trails in the New Hampshire woods. Cant wait to go back this summer.

Hersson Stout

No power outlets and restrooms are a bit unclean most of the time

Charlie M

Bathrooms need more attention staff is very helpful and friendly overall very nice

Sofia Briskin

Unbelievable pretty! We liked it.

Parker Legrow

Nice place to hang out

John Wood

Bear brook has scenic walks, playgrounds, campsites, a beach, and excellent mountain biking trails.

John Gagnon

Great park and campground and it gets very very busy but they have awesome tailways for hiking and biking as well as snowmobile during winter season

Darryl Vanover

Have hiked here many times. Lots of trails to choose from. One of many great parks in New Hampshire.

Mrs. D

Loved our site just a lot of children where we were. I'm more of a quite camper. A lot of wide open sites with no privacy. Will go back hoping to find that right site! Happy camping...

Hafsa Khurshid

Beach is not clean there. We were disappointed after 2 hours of drive.

Austin Hart

Great camping and mountain biking, without having to drive to the White Mountains!

Richard Smart

Staff is very pleasant

Donald Troop

Very nice state park. Excellent for mountain biking.

Jim Malchiodi

Nice camp ground, plenty of trails great for hiking or mountain biking. Only wish they had multiple sites with electric and water. They only have one site with electric only.

Caitlyn LaPorte

This review is for the cabins: Pros: The scenery is beautiful, and the cabins are large and perfectly adequate. Cons: There is no running water at the cabins. Portapotties and a small jug of potable water are the only facilities in the area. Showers, water for dishes or hand washing, and trash disposal are all located at the campground which is about 6 miles away down a dirt road and takes forever to get there. There are also an insane amount of ticks. The campground is gorgeous and if I were to stay at this park again I would definitely stay there, but I would not rent a cabin here again.

Jacob Glik

Individual sites are huge, large enough for five tents and three cars on average! Lovely beach and really cool rope swing into the water.

Laura Lockhart

I must be missing something. I read all the fantastic reviews and was excited to camp here. We didn't go biking or hiking, so that may be why. Just staying on our site, we came across about 8 ticks in 3 days. I can't imagine how many we would have encountered if we went in deeper woods. Didn't experience canoe rentals, but seemed strange that the rental station wasn't at the beach where the canoes were - had to walk to other end of campground to rent at the store, then carry paddles & life vests back to beach. We brought our own kayaks and enjoyed being out on the water, although being a pond, the water wasn't very clear. My kids played in the water at the beach and had fun, but discovered leeches afterwards. The campsites were roomy, but no trees between and therefore no privacy and no sound barrier. Bathrooms were lacking in cleanliness, soap, and toilet paper. Staff drove around quite a bit on golf carts, but not sure what they were doing. Didn't seem like they were keeping up with the bathrooms or enforcing quiet time. This place does not even compare to other state parks throughout NH.

Vilechild

Need to hide a body? Don't do it her unless you know this place well. Not maintained that well off season. Good for easy day with little kids. Older kids will be bored. Too many boomers... Way too many.

Richard LaBaire

Is off season but the park was very nice.

Donald Salmon

Fun place, lots to do if you like the outdoors.

Paul Beauchesne

Best park in the state

P.J. Bennett

These 1-2 star reviews are hilarious. People complaining about mosquitos, ticks, and leeches. It's a stagnant POND in the WOODS what did you expect? The campground sucks, the fees at the park suck, but the fishing is half decent. The trails are better for hiking or snowmobiling rather than biking. Ehh. It is what it is. I hunt parts of it, its good for that too.

Giorgianna Sillars

This was a very large place with plenty of trails. Went mid May and didn't have to pay an entrance fee and it was a rainy day so only saw one other person. We went down Chipmunk trail and it was a beautiful walk. There was a small cemetery along the walk. The only downside of this place is I ended up finding six ticks on me.

Salaatia Guides

Great ride it was, thx Dave for showing us around the lake, it was pretty cool!

Nessabuttkay9 10

My step sisters cousin got a tick on him

Thuany Olinger

Great place to bring kids to swim and enjoy the summer, plenty of shade, bathrooms available, canoe rentals and a playground. Only downside is having to pay and the size of swimming area in geral.

Roni Russell

It was great

Jan Simmons

School field trip. Program very well done.

Jennifer Hamilton

Another lovely place, this place is magnificent and so much green and trees everywhere.

Patricia Morse

Needs to be kept up. Water looked dirty.

Harvey Gruber

Nice park

Jon Bradstreet

A fantastic park to go mountain biking at, love this place

CHRISTINE SPRAGUE

Loved it would go back quite time starts at 10 and it was obeyed by most.Enjoyed floating around in the lake and not being bothered by anyone.

Tracy Rousseau

Very nice camping experience. Very friendly staff, and clean bathrooms. The swimming beach area was very nice .

andrei velichko

really nice place,so peacefull.lots of mosquitos thow.

George Kotal

Best mountain biking in NH! Bear Brook trail, Carr Ridge, Cascade, Little Bear, Big Bear and Hemlock trail are the key trails to hit.

Andrea Cruz

Beautiful Park with lake, kids playground and restrooms. It was big enough so everyone can have a nice spot to relax and spend some nice time there.

Tom Cundiff

Expansive network of flowing mtb trails. Go with someone who knows the trails to make sure you hit the good stuff! It's hard to link everything together correctly your first time without assistance. Hit umami for a bite afterwards.

Ron Iacovelli

Had a blast riding the Mt Bike trails!

Janna Oakfellow-Pushee

This is a fantastic place to hold an outdoor wedding. There is a playground not far from the main outdoor building, with beautiful stairs on both sides leading down to the lakeside beach. There are bathrooms underneath this building. There are tiny grills (you have to bring everything and pack out everything), so you can cook and eat to your heart's content. There are picnic tables, amazing trails, great for biking, hiking, for your woofers and kiddos, and when a lifeguard is on duty swimming. The rangers are knowledgeable, and super helpful. Check this out all seasons!

Gabriel A.S.

Family Friendly Camping

Brittany StJohn

Picnic area is great! Plenty of tables and grills. Also lots of green space for picnics and playing. Bathrooms are actual bathrooms opposed to porta pottys. Convient store right on site incase you need a cold drink, forgot sunscreen or want to pick up a toy for the kids. Also ability to rent canoes and water floats right on site. With that being said, the beach is very small and the swimming area is also very small. The water is also colder than most other lakes I have been to. Kim

Amu Jacobs

Large, semi private, wooded campsites. Short walk to swimming beach and fishing. Price and parking reasonable.

Krystal Blodgett

Nice park. Awesome staff. Great lake

Tracey Wilson

Love this place have been camping here twice a year for at least 12 years! Big wooded sites, beach, dog friendly!

Marc Nolin

This is a wonderful state park with Alpine height trails and lakes with beaches. Swimming is available part of the year. Parking is a bit of an issue occasionally. Very scenic.

ivan bellemare

We loved the archery trail!

Jeff Benoit

Small but cool.
