REVIEWS OF Great Basin National Park IN Nevada

Richard Trierweiler

Great, on the smaller size national park. You can easily spend a week or so here. The cave is pretty cool. I would have loved to have taken the star gazing ranger talk.

fabian garro

I love NV

Gayle DeCaria

Don't tell anybody! If you like any of the earth sciences this place is awesome. And not crowded! Plan on roughing it a bit, but well worth it.

Roswell Rogers

Under the radar and out of the way, but such an amazing national park. The little beer bar in the cafe at the visitors center is a huge plus!

Linda Heil Tvrdik

The campsites are good. Cave is worth touring

Joseph BoomBotz

This is my favorite National Park. A little hidden gem in the world. First off, it is free and the cave tours are so cheap they are basically given them away. The base of the mountain in the summer is 98°F while the top is just below freezing. I hiked the trail to the top of wheelers peak and then slid the way down in under 10 minutes. What an experience. I highly recommend a visit here

Isaac Klingonsmith

Great place to get away from the heat and the hustle and bustle. Reminds me of national parks in the early 90s. Very few visitors, limited hikes and services, and very dark at night.

Christopher Boyack

One of our favorite parks. Quiet, very few people, and lots of great hikes and interesting things to see. Lehman Caves is especially good.

Terry Ralston

great place and its free no entry fee

Eric Hamilton

First time to the park, and it was amazing. Not very crowded all the rangers were super friendly and helpful. There is still a lot of snow on memorial day weekend keeping the road closed to the top of the mountain. But there was still plenty to do down in the valley.

Bruce Provencher

What a beautiful park. The very best part was the night sky. You could see the stars from horizon to horizon in all directions. One of the three best night skies I have ever seen.

Russ Swift

Fantastic scenery and hiking. Kinda an off the grid national park. Definitely visit. The 8 mile round trip hike up Mt Wheeler was tough but doable for most people. What awesome views.

virginia whitesides

Stayed at Baker Creek, amazing beauty of a playground in and of itself and very little traffic....I mean people there but nothing like a Zion, Yellowstone, or Yosemite Nat'l Parks. Will be coming back!! Loved it, and nature was great to us.

Adam D

Off the beaten path, but amazing!

Elizabeth G

Beautiful place. Lehman caves is really something to explore and the stars at night are out here like they are in no other place. Really amazing national park, really a treasure.

Bo

Beautiful, good trails

Mark Boyer

A small, beautiful park. The cave tours are a must see.

Michelle Leverton

Amazing place to camp! Loved all three days. Bottom camp site was for large RVs, second campsite is campers or tents. The top one is 10,000 feet up and fits tents and small trailers. I could only take one day in that altitude but over looking a meadow with deer. Had our own picnic table, fire pit, BBQ and bathroom and water fill up areas. 2nd night we did the middle campsite about 7,000 feet. Right next to the Creek. We saw more deer and wild turkeys! So peaceful. Also had all the things as the top campsite. We stayed two nights there. The only bummer was we wanted to see the caves but they were sold out. So make your reservations ahead of time. Also cold at night and this was middle of the summer. Bring blankets and jackets. But great area. Beautiful!

SharaLee Ellsworth

Alpine lakes, quiet trails, and Bristlecone Pine Trees. This park is worth the drive. Also, terrifically dark skies at night, perfect to see the milky way.

Dean Delgado

Been to almost every national Park and this is one of my favorites. Out of the way with a variety of things to offer: hiking, fishing, caves, bristlecone pines, very dark night sky, 13,000 ft peak and more. Not as big as the more popular parks, but also not nearly as busy and crowded.

Andrea Fife

It is important to note that the cave tours fill early; for a one day trip like mine, you may miss the main event.

Ty Branaman

I finally got to see e glacier!!!!! Awesome place. I will have to return to see the caves. Such a long drive. But worth it

Renae Deighton

Great park and amazing rangers!

Jennifer Reed

I have loved this park ever since I camped there for two months while participating in the Archaeological dig right outside of Baker. Baker has grown somewhat since I was there and it was wonderful to visit the excellent (and new to us!) Great Basin National Park Visitors center. We visted at the end of June and wanted to see the bristle cone pines, but the trail was still too snowy! We didn't see the cave this time, but there are three different tours; 90 minutes, 60 minutes and one that is wheelchair accessible.

John Holman

Its as beautiful as we remember from 30yrs ago.

bill frey

Don't plan on having a camping site here. Few camping spots available, and can not be reserved. No nearby alternatives. Great Basin needs to be part of the reservation system used by other National Parks.

Tim Clapp

The elevation change with the Aspens changing colors and the pristine surroundings make the trip all worthwhile.

Jared Tichy

One of our favorite spots on Earth. Secluded and beautiful.

Davene Gardner

The road to the Wheeler mtn. trailhead was closed due to large amounts of snow but what we saw was beautiful and well maintained. The Lehman Cave is a must do when in the park. It was really pretty. Easy navigating too. Make sure you have reservations!

Ryan Roush

Great Park with not too many visitors, plenty of camping located just outside the park.

Judie Pokakaa

I rented a jeep but didn't need it. Going in to the cave was fun and informative. Make reservations online for the cave tour because they sell out quickly.

Pete Shea

Beautiful views, wild animals, and wonderful people. We saw deer, jack rabbits, marmots, wild turkeys and a variety of birds. There are lots of camping sites or you can stay in Baker, but get reservations in advance. We only had time for a little hiking but would love to go back for more. The Lehman Cave tour should also be on your list. Finally, eat at the cafe and gift shop at the Lehman visitor center. They have amazing food!

Emily P

Never even heard of this park before I went on my way to Lake Tahoe from Park City. I did not end up doing one of the cave tours, but hiked 2 days and camped one night. The campsites are first come first serve, and wheeler Creek campground is the closest to the more popular trailheads (no showers here). I hiked the bristlecone trail and connected to the Alpine lakes trail and was pleasantly surprised. The views were absolutely stunning, especially at a park I knew nothing about! There are not a ton of hiking trail options, but there is enough diversity in length and difficulty among the trails, you can find one for any skill level and day. If you're looking to hit up a national park in Nevada, don't rule this spot out!

Summers Vincent

Worth a visit, great views from the scenic drive and no park entry fee.

Manny Mitts Murillo

I know this Park is worthy of 5 stars but it all depends on what time of year you are going and how much of it you are willing to Trek. When there is snow and chances of more snow look for roads to be closed. Which could add miles to your hiking. Summer months seem to be best for access for all.

ming549

It's remote and the closest REAL town is Ely,NV. which is about 65 miles away. The drive is worth it. This park is a hidden gem. Two absolute must are the Lehman cave and the Bristlecone forest. Make reservations for the cave tour on the website, they fill and book quickly. The hike to the Bristlecone forest is about 5miles round trip and mostly uphill at around 9500 feet plus. So carry a day pack and bring a camera, unless your cellphone takes really good pictures.

Rocky Lawter

Love going here with my family!

Connie Brown

Beauty rising out of the desert. Amazing cave!

Jesse

During the summer the skies are bland and the forest appears dry. I can see how this could be nice especially compare to so much else in Nevada that is just scrub. There does seem to be some wildlife and the mountains are quite tall but it is a very small range.

Le Cler

Always loved this place. Saw a photo as a kid in the 80s and finally visited in 2014. Great spot.

sue dunbar

Hidden jewel in the NP system. Hiked the Bristlecone pines trail and was completely awed by the ages of these trees( up to 5000yrs) as well as the vistas.

Bob Rose

The drive to the top is breath taking, you reach 10,000 feet and you can see the. Alley below, amazing, I have a new camping area...

Gabe Kynes

They would not let us in the Lehman caves because our dogs were getting hot in our car and we needed to tend to them. All of the roads were closed drove 500+miles to not get let in to the caves. Need more shaded parking!!!!

Ray Shelor

We got to hike up to the top of the Glacier trail early in the morning, and I think I would do that again if I had the chance. Being up on the mountain at 6 we could see the sun peaking out behind the clouds and interacted with wonderful people on our way down. 10/10 would recommend.

Jim Snyder

Wow, far from everywhere but we'll worth the effort

Shannon Mahan

Fantastic experience. From Lehman Caves to the bristlecone tree in the parking lot that does not look like a bristlecone to the views from the road to Wheeler Peak. Utterly Nevada and Big Sky country. Do not pass this gem up. Reserve the cave tours way ahead though sometimes people turn tickets back in as they can't use them so you may get lucky if you ask the rangers at the Lehman cave headquarters. We did!

Poisoned Llemon

This is honestly such a cool National Park. Not just for the caves or Wheeler Peak, but the little to no light pollution makes way for a beautiful night sky.

Nathan Adams

July 60 degrees at 1:30 in the afternoon at upper campground.

Kathy Birrenkott

Great Basin NP was our destination. we stayed in Baker, Nv. Great camping in and around the park. Lehman Caves, Mather Overlook, Wheeler Peak & Campground also walked some beautiful trails located inside the park. Baker Lake Trailhead rushing water, lots of flowers. Absolutely beautiful views, and trails.

Sasha Lukyanets

Beautiful scenery but definitely one of the least developed national parks - very few services. Lehman caves are a must-see.

Gregg Peterson

Very nice park.

Lindsey

A great national park without all of the tourists. There are plenty of beautiful trails for all individuals/hiking abilities. Would definitely recommend to families with children, as well!

Shane Baker

I'm a professional full time photographer and will be back to explore this place further. There is no indication that such a beautiful place exists as you drive the long and barren road in. Its truly a Jewel in the barren wasteland of the basin. Yet even that has its own beauty because of how vast it is. The small town of Baker was a warm surprise. Its tiny yet the people were so friendly. There was never a hesitation to help answer a question. The park itself is so well maintained. Its also not crowded at all. We spent half our time feeling as if we were the only ones on a hike or sitting at a campfire staring into the star filled sky. Depending on your temperament, you could experience this place off the grid and truly get away from all hints of civilization. Or you could do what we did and enjoy a well maintained campsite, incredibly clean outhouses complete with seat cover tissue paper and drive to town each morning (30 minute from our site) and pay for a warm shower ($5) to start the day feeling clean and refreshed. This park was worth the drive. Wild deer greeted us each morning just outside our tent, bald eagles soared overhead, incredible caves were a short drive away, clear water rushed through nearby meadows and small, crystal clear lakes, a color blue I've never seen, were our reward for a relatively short but stunning hike. Visit this park. Eat at Kerouac's. Stop by the Lehman Caves. Explore the hikes at the top of Wheeler peak. And on the drive out, leave a day to explore hidden valley ranch and other off the beaten path places.

Paul Dormeyer

Great unique park. Main road goes way up in the park. Very good campgrounds. 24' limit to drive to the top.

Kim Potts

Great place to hike.

Natalie Merritt

Beautiful and isolated!

Bruce Calkins

Very nice campground. We stayed at Baker Creek, and even though it was pretty full we stayed in a "walk-in" spot.

Josh Kettelkamp

Great Basin National Park is the best unknown national park. Located in Western Nevada it has the state's only glacier and has the oldest trees in North America- bristlecone pines! I would certainly suggest you stop and visit this park.

Randy Burris

Great four days for us. Great Rangers and Volunteers all the way around. Super stay.

Morris Brown

Remote and beautiful. The road up to the Mt Wheeler basin is breathtaking but intense...no guard rails and sharp curves.

Megan Woodburn

This is a great place to come and view the night sky. The stars were so bright. Schedule a cave tour early and if you are planning on camping, get there early because the sites are first come first serve. You can reserve some sites ahead of time, but it looked like they were limited. The camp sites that are first come first serve are $15.00, exact amount.

Zhao Ge

rangers were super nice and knowledgeable. thanks for the advises on hiking and camping

Ushko Mi

Camping is a real pain if you're not able to get a lucky spot. With only one campsite with RSVP capabilities and at capacity, we decided to go anyway and take a chance on the "first come, first serve". We were out of luck, nothing was available. We camped 40 minutes outside of the park in open desert, which wasn't what we were expecting. I HIGHLY RECOMMEND RSVPing a campsite if possible. The trails are nice, there's plenty of wildlife, and there is beautiful scenery with plenty of other scenic options in the area (like the Ward Charcoal Ovens and the Cathedral Gorge...just a couple of the other nature opportunities).

Bruce Boyes

Wheeler Summit Trail is great. First 2 miles is easy to moderate but once you get above the tree line the real work begins to reach Wheeler Peak

Mark Halliday

Great place to camp have fun and see a cave!

Joseph Kasal

A hidden gem. Quiet with minimal visitors.

Isaac Parthun

Love this National Park! Went last summer for the first time and was blown away! The bristle cone pines left me in pure amazement along with the glacial lakes, amazing wildlife, and scenic views.

Michael King

A beautiful park that broke up our long drive perfectly.

mary condit

This is an awesome National Park. It is in the middle of nowhere but worth making the effort to get there. There are caves (make reservations before you arrive) the best star gazing in the lower 48 with regular programs. There are breathtaking vistas, interesting geology, and great campgrounds. There can be snow in the summer, and camping at 9000 feet is wonderful in the middle of summer. There are no flush toilets or showers in the campgrounds, but there are nice bathrooms at the ranger station. Also there is a cafe that serves great breakfast burritos. Don’t miss the historic charcoal ovens between the park and Ely. They are amazing.

Claire Ferguson

Gorgeous formations!

Evan Allen

Lehmann caves is absolutely breathtaking and so unusual. Should be visited at least once by all Nevadans.

Holly Crawley

We attended a Ranger Program on Celestial Navigation this evening that was excellent. After an informative talk as the sky darkened we looked through 3 large telescopes at Saturn and four other celestial bodies. GREAT!!!

Tyson Brinkerhoff

It was amazing! So many different trails to go on. The only setback is how strict they are on pets. They don't let you take your dogs on trails which doesn't make sense. Anyway views are amazing hikes are amazing! Loved it!

Ray Stone

Went to visit the caves(must have reservations) two tours 1hr.. and 1.5 hrs both are fun and informative. Best place to eat near by is the casino on the. NV and UT border about 5 miles away.

Carolyn LeCroy

Lehman Cave was very interesting. The Volunteer Ranger was very very knowledgeable. Wheeler Peak Scenic Drive rendered some AWESOME fall pics with snow and deer and wild turkeys.

Vicki Bissett

My favorite!! Very few visitors, and even fewer that would do the hike to Mt Wheeler. However, while a little challenging, the hike gives you plenty of visual rewards. We saw deer, chipmunks, etc. plus flora galore. The two lakes were peaceful and scenic. The view from one included views of the glaciers. We have to go out of our way for this park, but it's well worth the trip! If you stay in Baker, prepare to bring in your own groceries or find a limited source at the local grocery/convenience store. Two restaurants in Baker - both are good, one a little more expensive than the other. I think until the area gets more visitors the food choice outside the park will remain limited. In the park there's a little diner - good food, great customer service! If you want to do the bat tour, make your reservations early!

James Lewis

Wonderful park to visit. There's no cost to enter the park. There is a cost to tour the caves. Great tour to take. Camping is a nice activity to do while you visit. Great campgrounds! Plan to visit again to explore more someday.

Ivan Tchesnokov

Amazing park

Frank Kurek

A wonderful park in central Nevada! Not large like some western parks, but always kept up by NPS.

Eric Leder

Bristle Cone Pine Grove is great

The VegasTourist

This is NOT Las Vegas or anything near it! An amazing place to visit. Be careful of the high altitude and just enjoy the natural beauty.

Don Dike

Awesome, got to climb Wheeler Peak almost to the top. Didn't get a chance to head to Lehman caves because it was really busy but still a must do attraction. Otherwise hiking around the park is great you should check it out be prepared to possibly spend two maybe three days here definitely plan ahead. Especially in summer months when it's really busy on the weekends!

Micah Brown

The night sky is the most brilliant here than any other place I've seen. So many stars are visible.

Michael Gribbons

Great out of the way national park. Caves are neat and fun hiking.

tony hoffman

Spectacular place.

Ralph Caldwell

Very un Nevada like in the middle of the desert. The hike up Wheeler took about 6 hours round trip. We took our time and enjoyed every minute.

Kevin Ridnour

This park is gorgeous! Lots of great and affordable camping. Many sites do not have water or power and have only outhouse toilets. The toilets we were clean and stocked with paper. If your planning on the cave tours be sure to book ahead online. They were full all day when we visited. Night skies are hard to beat!

Simon Simpson

A real gem of a national park, made all the more special by the fact that it's remote location and more famous neighbors means that's it's not overrun wth visitors. I discovered to my detriment that visits to the Lehman caves can only occur with tour guide and booked in advance. Internet in the area is essentially non existent so book before you arrive. The baker creek loop trail is a lovely 1 hour walk.

Ivesters tree

Our guide was great. Love this place and it's beauty

Gary Gilbert

Lehman Caves and Mount Wheeler were Awesome Beauty and Views.

Dean Clark

Least visited national park in the lower 48. Well worth it. Great trails and lakes and a fantastic cave tour. Maybe saw 30 people all day.

Jaehyup Kim

Liked the scenic drive. Try stargazing tour if conditions are right.

Ben K

From the depths of caves to the peak of Mt. Wheeler, I love the amazing things to see here.

Sal Giani

Seriously the best place ever to see the stars at night. It's just so far out away from everything that there's no light polution. It's a gorgeous and seldom visited often overlooked National Park.

Christine Dotson

Make reservations on line to go on the cave tour... We had a great day.

Kathy Richards

Loved the Lehman Cave. Great family trip.

Roberta Klisiewicz

1 houtAwesome cave tour: I did the 1 hour tour but definitely order your tickets in advance. I did so that I was good, but people coming in without a reservation at 10 AM had to wait until 3 PM for a tour.

Robyn Pack

This is an amazing park. Because of the altitude, the weather is not too hot on summer days. The Wheeler peak hike is awesome. If you're too early in the season, there is still quite a bit of snow. I went mid June the snow was traversable but softened up later in the day-walking was hard. The peak hike, especially the last bit is pretty hard. High alt and steep trails. The views are worth it though. Their dark sky program is great too. They bring out telescopes and find interesting astronomical features to talk about, everybody gets to look. It gets busy though and there can be long waits for your turn at the lens. Check with a ranger for dates and times. Lehman caves is also worth a visit. Really beautiful cave and interesting growths. The full tour was worth the time and money. Cell phones will not take great pics down in there.

Kathilie Gruggett

Great cave. Nice campsites.

Ben Marchant

This area has so much history. My wife's family is the Clay's. One of their ancestors was one of the few that discovered Lehman Cave!

Brian Delight

Beautiful, great hikes, ancient trees, glaciers, and more.

Marco Buske

Well worth a visit. Climbed Wheeler Peak and hiked to Bristlecone Grove. Pretty and unique locale.

Todd Seibert

Overcrowded. Campsites are always full and not reservable. Lehmann Caves was awesome, and tours are reservable. However, I visited the Visitor Center the day before our reserved tour and saw an obnoxious sign on the door "all tours are full. Do not ask the rangers about other things to do in the park." It's a visitor center! Our tax dollars and National Park fees pay the "rangers" salary! It's like how dare the lowlife public ask a Ranger questions that are beneath them to answer! The park will be a little less crowded in the future for I will never return. No big deal to me!

Mark Nuetzel

Didn't know about the cave. Loved the tour. Hiking at the top was great. Friendly rangers.

Stephanie Shindle

We stopped at the Great Basin Cafe Let me tell you the staff here was absolutely amazing. When we stopped to eat. And our expectations where for your run of the meal cafe food. And the menu seemed to go with what we hoped for. However nothing could have been further from the truth. The food was by far some of the best I have ever eaten. I have had meals in 5 star establishments, priced 6 to 8 times the cost. And this off the path, small town diner's food was so fantastic. I will in the future do the 4 hours drive just to experience again.

Brandon Pardi

Beautiful and underrated national park. It may be high desert but it's so much prettier than youd expect. Not a whole lot to do but definitely a good 3 days worth if you're into hiking. If you want to see the caves make sure the to make a reservation a few days out. Also check for snow since the road to the base of the mountain was actually closed off as were some if the upper alpine trails.

ruth thomson

The presentation by the park rangers with high powered telescopes was so informative and super amazing!!!!! This place is out of the way but worth the drive.

Jonathan S

Lehman Caves made for a delightful diversion en route to Utah via US 50 East.

Skye N.

One of the best NPs!! The mountain here goes up to 12k feet and the view is like nothing else, even more stark than the Rockies, because the surrounding area is way closer to sea level than the peak. It's got a forest, a desert, an alpine glacier, and some of the oldest living things on earth (Bristlecone pines). Often overlooked, Great Basin is a beautiful park!

Michael Torbert

An amazingly beautiful place with great hikes. This hidden gem is a photographers dream.

Joe Sokolowski

Terrific views and great hiking

Matthew

Great Basin National Park has been on my list for years. Very pleased to have checked it off the list, though now its back on the "return list". The park is wonderfully remote. I visited in the middle of April, so I expected less crowds, but I was pleasantly surprised to see only a handful of people the entire three days I was there. Much of the park was locked in snow (which wont stop me next time as I will have a backcountry ski setup, and snowshoes if I travel in late Fall, Winter or early Spring), but I was able to take a walk straight from Lower Lehman campground up the Wheeler mountain road which was closed to vehicle traffic. The hike was 6 miles round trip, a little over 1000 ft of elevation gain and loss. I saw ONE person the entire hike. I had to walk over some snow here and there, but no big deal. The snow became too deep for hiking just above 8500 ft. This of course will be different season to season. The views were excellent, and it was only me, the dog, and the wind in the trees for noise. I also hiked from camp overland 1.4 miles to the Lehman Caves visitor center (instead of the road.) As I understood the the regulations I read, this is allowed, but I was mindful to be careful where I stepped to not disturb the ground as much as possible. I would only recommend this to people with orientation skills and backcountry travel experience as it gets thick in the juniper, and pinyon pine, and less experienced hikers could get turned around, even with a short distance to the caves. I had to cross Lehman creek which was flowing pretty good. Plus, knowledge of how to deal with any wildlife you may encounter is wise as well. I only saw birds, but I saw sign of large elk, and Rangers shared active mountain lion sightings. I left the dog at camp comfortable, and safe in my van. The caves were mind bending and incredible. I was only able to get a 60 minute tour in, but I would do the tour again, and definitely go for the 90 minute tour. I did not register ahead of time, and walk-ups are hit and miss as the tours book out, even with so few people staying at the park. I tried to book through Rec.gov at camp (with spotty 3G) but had trouble. I would book ahead of your visit for sure. I stayed in camp 2, and I would shoot for that again. Upper Lehman was closed due to snow, but I walked it, and it looked great. My next visit I will come when the snow in the high country is melted out so I can make a shot at bagging Mount Wheeler, and check out the high mountain lakes, trails etc. I would shoot for 5 days to explore each zone but 8 to 10 days to really crush it all, maybe longer. The Mountain was out the entire time and it mesmerized me, and was a real pleasure witnessing how it affected the local weather.

Rick Dunbar

Another fantastic Utah National park. Some great hikes. Try to hike to the Bristlecone trees. Hard to imagine some are still alive after 4000 years. Beautiful, this must be the inspiration for Bonsai trees.

Patrick Harvey

Darkest skies in America, many great views of Mountains.

Marc Jakobs

A great place to stay, hike and see the night sky. Can get cold in the night. Loved my time here and would like to spend more time.

Steve Jones

Old perspectives seems small when you visit the Great Basin National Park. No entrance fees! Massive Wheeler Peak stands at 13000 ft, well above the town of Baker at 6000 ft. Often snowy, spring meltoffs engorge Lehman Creek. Deep below the Lehman Cave tours enthrall those who booked a tour ahead of time. Enjoy!

Aaqib Ansari

Amazing dark skies for star gazing. Great hikes without the crowds

Rich Cower

Nice place, wild horses

Shannon Stanley

Lots of stuff to do here other than hike, I did the cave tour it was great Ranger Ben was super fun and informative in a cool not boring way. There is a great resturant with homemade everything good price very laid back, lots of parking, biking, and hiking. Bonus you get to pass through some cool little towns.

Goflynw

Out of the way park, but spectacular views, interesting caves, and phenomenal camping.

Karen M

Got to see the Bristlecone grove. Lehman Cave was great.

VRetired and Loving it

Just breathe taking. This park is small and drivable. The hair pin turns are scary but the crowds are small so there is no hurry. Google said the Visitor center wasn't open until 11am we found it open at 8am and most of the cave tours already booked; we didn't take one.

HandF Pierce

Friendly Park Service personnel, Lehman Cave guide was knowledgeable, camp ground along a burbling creek was lovely and restrooms were clean, Cafe at the visitor center serves good food.

Michael Boyle

Visited Lehman Caves Visitor Center, within the Great Basin Park. Staff was very friendly and helpful.

James Baxter

Camping. Is great. Pull thrus atBaker creek campground. Its primitive camping no hookups but. Has bathrooms. Plennty to do. Ranger assisted stargazing. Lehman cave tours. Pictograph caves you can explore on your own. Glacier to explore. Fossils. Roose quartz and agates everywhere. Totally beautiful.

Brent Stratton

What a beautiful national park. It's surrounded by some of the most desolate country I have ever seen but the park is beautiful. From the cave to the 4,000 year old trees it is truly beautiful.

Joe Zerzan

Spectacular scenery, lightly used

Sarah Leavitt

Beautiful and amazing

Doug Cramer

Really cool cave tour. Good hiking trails. Spectacular views.

Mike Wells

It's a beautiful place. That being said, don't go early season as most of it is closed. Only two of the campgrounds were open, and their parking slabs are extremely hilly and almost impossible to level your vehicle.

Carolyn Dearden

This is a great place to go camping in the summer. It was over 100 degrees in the valley, and when we got up to our campsite it was in the 70's. Lots of good hikes, the campground had large sites, and the caves were fun too.

Deb Greene

Absolutely beautiful park with great camping. It's less crowded than one might expect plus it's cool in the hottest months of the summer with viewable snow capped peaks and the most amazing birch trees that have curved trunks. There are streams for fishing and plenty of hiking trails too. There are caves and other site seeing options. There are plenty of back country dirt gravel roads and even free camping that includes picnic tables, grills, and outhouses at the Snake Creek Area. This NP is a place you may wish to visit when you have plenty of time and don't want to spend it with alot of tourists because there is more than you can see in a day or a week, with so many unusual rock formations that are explorable to crazy adventures. Bring your binoculars and hiking boots.

Shawn S

One of the most beautiful national parks in the USA that no one has ever visited. The views of the Wheeler Peak cirque are stunning and the yellow aspens in fall are glorious.

Tom Ashby

Yeah very cool. Great drive. Very peaceful evening drive back to the city. Cool town next door.

Milton Sinclair

Weekend trip to ELY Nevada visited this awesome park.there are camp grounds, hiking trails and awesome views

Rick Hellewell

Great place. Not crowded even in summer. But recommend reservations for the Lehman caves.

Michael Marschner

Wheeler Peak is amazing. The park is beautiful. Night sky is incredible.

Danny Lee

Fantastic location to get away from the city. Rivers, animals, great camping. The cave was a wonderful surprise to our camping trip

Sandro Huizar

Beautiful and no crowds

Jeffrey Edwards

The caves are amazing. Our tour guide knew her stuff. Our favorite part was driving up 4o the Wheeler Mountain view point. We found a beautiful picnic area at the Upper Leahman Campground. We had perfect weather and perfect weather.

Tara Lovinger

Grey Cliffs campground was stunning! Great mountain views and within earshot of the creek.

Jennifer Zaretzka

A beautiful, peaceful place. The cave tour was amazing. Be sure to book tour ahead of time. We did the 60 minute tour with two 10 year old kids and a 70 year old grandma with no problem. Simon, our tour guide, was great!

David Bonham

Remote, lovely. You will love Nevada Vegas is not true Nevada. This is.

Jesse Howell

Amazing views

Drew Walton

Gotta love a free to enter national park, didnt know that existed. Worth a stopover on a camping road trip. Drive up the scenic road and nevada disappears and you feel like you're in the alps or something. Very pretty - 5 stars

Victor

One of the first National Parks where I did not have to pay for entry fee. Courteous and friendly personnel at Visitors Center. If planning to take Cave Tour would highly advise to go online and pre purchase a time and day before coming for your visit.

Ann Dow

We love this area! It’s a neat area tucked away. We try to get there once a season!

This park is an underrated, hidden gem! Just went on June 21-23, 2019 and the weather was a bit cold! Only because temperatures decided to drop on that weekend. Upper Lehman campground was amazing and lush and full of green! Campgrounds weren't full during the weekend so thats a plus since you can't reserve ahead of time! The Lehman cave tours were AWESOME! But it is strongly recommended to reserve your tickets because they sell out fast! Wheeler Peak and up was close due to snow but if you bring the right gear and snow shoes you'll be able to hike :) This park is awesome. I also recommend to go to the astronomy programs they have! I got to see Jupiter and Saturn through the provided telescopes. Dress warm and bring a RED light head lamp.

An oasis of creeks, forests, caves, and beauty in the middle of the desert. Book cave tours ahead of time; they are well worth it but fill up fast!

Beautiful and lots to do and explore in the area.

A hidden gem. Drive to nowhere, then drive another hour. The park occupies most of the Snake Range of extreme eastern Nevada. It is an island of life and beauty in the midst of forsaken desert. Please fill up your gas and water where you can, running in to town could mean an hour plus drive. As you gain elevation the arid planes quickly change. Take the Wheeler Peak drive (good, paved, well maintained, summer accessible) up above 10,000ft and you will find yourself in as thick of a forest as you’d find in the Rockies. The extreme prominence of Wheeler Peak and its isolation gives a feeling of floating above the Snake Valley. It is incredible. The campsites are all well appointed with potable water, pit toilets and fire pits. Check with the ranger for fire restriction issues. Don’t forget to hit the Bristlecone grove and Lehman Caves. A hardy soul make summit the formidable Wheeler Peak.

We saw wild turkeys in the road and great caves

Awesome trip. Visited in April 2017. The road had been cleared snow up the 9000 foot level. It was a good time for an uncrowded visit.

Beautiful and quiet! So many things to do around the area. The hikes never fail to impress! Drive up Wheeler Peak if you're short on time and drink in those views! God was busy here! Don't miss Lehman Caves!
