REVIEWS OF Scotts Bluff National Monument IN Nebraska

Chris Bloomfield

Nice National Monument. Unfortunately the visitor center was under renovation, so we didn’t get to see their collection. The hiking trail up was really neat, especially the hand cut tunnel. The rangers were really friendly and informative. This might not be an ideal place for someone terrified of heights, but the views are epic! A great place to spend the day.

Phil G

If you like the outdoors it has a very nice overlooking view of the area. Shuttle ride to the top or drive up yourself. Recomend the hike up and back down if you like to walk. Parks staff was very friendly.

Aurora Vintilescu

Beautiful! Absolutely worth a trip if you’re ever in the area. Recommend doing the little hike up or driving all the way to the top and then exploring the little trails from there.

Nichol H

This is a beautiful park with some impressive views. The trail up to the top of the bluff is a nice hike and is maintained fairly well. If you do have younger kids I would think twice about hiking up because they can easily get hurt if they go off of the trail. Overall it's a very nice park with an informative visitors center.

Kyle Shaw

Great scenery and hike. Always worth the visit

Uwe Schneider

We took the shuttle up and hiked down. Nice walk.

Saurav Das

It is a great place to have some refreshing walk around at evening with your buddies!

Gregg Clanton

A neat place with a lot of history.

Janet Germer

Liked being able to drive up...beautiful views, heavy memories...

Wilma Barnhart

Absolutely awesome! The staff was friendly and helpful. The views were breath taking even on a freezing cold day. I'd love to go back when it was warm enough to hike a little.

Ray Rossignol

They have good scenery to relax In a lot of history

Bradley Ford

This was a neat visit, both naturally and historically, being a stop on the Oregon Trail. The only disappointment was that rangers were not available for a ride to the top. We were going to shuttle up and walk back down the trail as suggested by information before hand. It is a nice place to hike and learn a bit of history.

Matt Fedorka

This was an easy stop and worth it as well. The convergence of the Oregon and California Trails as well as the Pony Express. Gorgeous scenery. And the drive up the bluff is a ride too. Great views from the top!

Lennae Seevers

Amazing views, great place to visit.

Kim Zwiener

It's beautiful and peaceful. Great for a quick stop to take in the sights. Or to spend hours exploring.

Alan C

We arrived at 8:30AM only to find the place closed up, even the scenic drive. The gatehouse had the opening time as 8:00 as well as this site. A waste of time and driving.

Ruth Pickard

Very cool place to visit. You can drive up to the top and get a really good view of the town and the valley.

Amber Evans

Absolutely beautiful! Friendly park rangers , great paths and many interesting facts, etc

Teddy Roose

Friendly, free summer 2019.

oluwatoyin adebayo

To me,its just another trail, but it sure is nice to see

M P

Beautiful views. I didn't visit the Visitors Center as I was short on time.

Doug Rupell

Fantastic views from every angle. A great piece of history with the Oregon Trail and The Pony Express.

Lash Askew

Visitors Center was being renovated but a temporary trailer was set up. The views at the top were worth the drive up.

Trista Jennings

Loved it. Took my 11 year old son and we had a blast.

undefined

It's a very pretty area and a great historical landmark of the Oregon trail. You wouldn't expect this kind of terrain in Nebraska. If you're passing through the area then I would definitely stop to stretch your legs and see some history. I probably wouldn't come here and make it a main destination kind of thing.

Barb Pierce

This place is amazing. Loved going to the top of the bluff with the kids. The view is awesome, the ride up there was great, the Rangers are knowledgeable and engaging. Don't miss this stop!

Cyndi Christensen

Wonder experiences there.

Andrew Carroll

Love this small park. Wonderful staff and a great hiking trail. They were starting to redo the museum when we visited so I'm excited to see the new place.

Jim Seavey

Nice. Cool history. Watch the weather.

Debra Reddy

This is a very inexpensive place to visit and it is just beautiful! There's a cute little store and museum that plays a historic film all about Scotts Bluff. The park rangers were very friendly and even offered to take photos for our family. She told us about the trail around the bluffs and our kids were super excited to take that hike. I'm so happy we decided to stop here.

Julie Sedziol

We enjoyed our visit.

NaNessa Reyes

A wonderful place to explore in Western Nebraska. If visiting in the warmer months, watch out for rattle snakes.

Jose R Sierra

This is a very beautiful location. I proposed to my honey there this year.

Scott Snyder

Very cool place to visit

Kim Wilson

Top 10 Site to see in Nebraska. This was a stop on the Nebraska Passport program and it was one of the most beautiful scenic places on the trip through Nebraska. They have a wonderful life size display at the entrance of people traveling along the Oregon Trail. There is a small entrance fee unless you have a state park permit. From the top of the summit you can see the original rut marks from the wagons and traffic along the Oregon Trail. The trails are easy to walk and they are kept clear of any debris. The views from the summit are breathtaking. The road to the summit is paved and well maintained. This is a MUST stop!

Amy Frederick

This area of the country is beautiful with so much history. The NM is very well maintained and everything is easy to get to. The drive up Mitchell pass is a must as well as the short trek up and down Saddle Rock Trail, just make sure you take plenty of water! The scenes from the top of the bluffs is beautiful and you can see the whole town and valley below. The visitors center was closed when we visited but I'm sure it has a lot of great information.

Lisa Rupert

Fantastic stop, next time we'll stay overnight here. The bluff was beautiful, sweeping vistas in every direction, hiking trails, a visitors center with maps and even covered wagons as this was a stop for over 250K people traveling the Oregon trail. Forest service guides on site to educate and answer questions. Loved it, will go again. Absolutely huge and amazing dog park maybe 2-3 mi from the bluff.

Tera Peay

Hot. But nice place for a quick hike.

peggy johnson

Amazing views from on top of bluff.

Bonn Alvarado

Great way to start your morning. Able to see for miles amd the view is great!

Mark Nuetzi

Great view, visitor center under construction, 3 different tunnels

Russell Milles

Bike up this if you get a chance. Hike around at the top, great views.

Jill Osse

What a great play day! Visiting the Cheyenne area and decided to make a day trip. 3 year old boy. Momma 5 mo. We drove to the top and walked around took several pictures and then proceeded to walk down un known to us it goes ALL the way down! We stopped at the tunnel and returned to the top! It wasn't overly exerting and momma and grandson did great! What a wonderful day! What a view!

Eric Crane

You can always get beautiful views no matter what day you go and the trails are awesome!

Katie Adams

Nice little trails, and the park is free!

Stacey Schoneman

Breathtaking views. The drive up to the top is very cool and the walking trails are an adventure all on their own. My son and I both enjoyed it!

Mike Moeller

Another hidden gem in the National Park system. The geology and history is well worth the visit.

Zach Schild

Best place ever but thats my dads stompping ground

Kee

Just plan cool .

J Bennett

Been here 3 times...and find something new each time. Its so lovely here. Full of rich history.

Kimberly Blyth

Well worth the trip despite the high heat...the historical significance of the area can not be over stated....What a journey these ppl must have endured....the bluffs were sensational!!!

Jaszuna Norman

Just amazing. If your driving near this definitely stop and check this place out.

Rocky Mountain High - Colorado

A must see if you are a history geek. They have a museum on westward expansion. You can drive to the top of the bluff. It is a short, easy hike to the lookout points. If you want you can even hike from the museum to the top of the bluff. Would definitely recommend!

jackie holler

Beautiful spot - great hike through the rock formations very informative

Anita Gianardi

Just beautiful. Wish they would finish the upgrades

June Hood

What a wonderful hiking experience. The veiw from the top of saddle back trail was amazing. Walking through the tunnel, there was a nice breeze to cool you off. Very worth the 1.8 miles uphill to the top.

Eric Bewley

This is a beautiful place and whether you take a drive to the top, or you hike the whole way, it is a sight you will enjoy.

Rick Reeser

Interesting road to the top. Good trails, but stay on them as Rattlers are around.

eddie v

Awesome views very friendly staff

Beto y Cyn

Beautiful area and hike, totally worth it! Staff very friendly and helpful. Take time to see the exhibition and ask for the video. If this post helped you please give us a like

Brian Libby

Nice start to our memorable trip west!

Austin Cegas

Beautiful way to spend the day sight seeing or hiking.

Maggie O

Views from the bluff are gorgeous. The wagons mark the Oregon trail. Nice bit of American history.

mar stutz

This "off the beaten path" landmark was worth the trip! The history of the westward movement and the natural beauty make for a wonderful trip.

Danielle Van Veldhuizen

Beautiful place, good paved walking/hiking trails. Our 5 year old had no problem with it. Fun place to explore.

Peter Haze Haring

A trip worth making. Beautiful scenery of America.

Del Nelson

I have been to Scott's Bluff many times, but never went to the monument. Couldn't believe how impressive it really was.

Richard Mccune

Nebr history explained very good.

anne bratcher

Phenomenal. Just get out and take the walk - surprisingly beautiful even in limited sight weather.

Lee Mowers

Upgrades in process, people were great.

Will Huff

My favorite way to experience the monument is to start running or hiking the trail at U street and five rocks road. You’ll be treated to rolling hills and expansive views of the bluff that you don’t get to see from the road. Make your way to the top for a good workout and great views of Scottsbluff.

Tom Hartley

It's about the only interesting place to visit in the area...

Josh Henne

Growing up at the base of it, still one of the most majestic National Parks in the US, especially Western Nebraska's hidden gem.

Toby Meyers

This national monument has an interesting visitor center and lots of history ranging from the Oregon trail to the CCC during the depression hand carving a parking lot at the top by hand. Overall, it was very "bluffy" and worth a visit if travelling through Nebraska.

Vicky Tidwell

Very nice place and dog friendly.

Kay Grote

Always a pleasure to explore the landscape along the historic Oregon Trail, from a strenuous morning hike up the monument path to catch a spectacular sunrise, to an evening stroll among sage, sunflowers and deer. Truly a treasure.

Cassandra Benitez

Very friendly and knowledgeable staff! Great family experience for all ages!

Hank Marks

This is a really really cool place. You can see chimney rock and a swath of Nebraska from the top. Pro tip: the park ranger cars that look like police cars are actually cops basically. They can pull you over haha drive slow!

Xenedraa Bourque

Awesome place for a nice hike and photo shoot.

Seth Southern

Pretty views. Options for paved hike to the top or passed drive to the top.

Carlos Jr Delossantos

Used to come here as a kid.

Darselle McDaniel

A beautiful place to see and a great place to walk

Darlene

What a beautiful sight to be seen at the top of the monument for Nebraskans as well as tourists.

Bob U

Visitors center closed for construction but temporary trailer provides the basics, with porta potty outside. Good video describes the interesting history of the bluff and the area.

Chrystal Short

No fee park with a couple of short hiking trails. Great place to stop, get out and take a walk and get a great view of the landscape while driving through the area.

aquapark fun

It was so beautiful I definitely recommend coming here

Bob Crouse

A lot of history from this area. Great views from the summit looking around at the plains. Also interesting to see how the Oregon trail moved from one side where they used to go around the plateau 2 straight through a pass in the middle. They are currently working on a major renovation of the visitor center so only a trailer was available.

Bruce Baker

It was ok. Not certain that it was worth the drive. Also, it being so close to the Old Oregon Trail, I'm afraid that I might die if dysentery.

Anthony Cardenuto

Interesting, great views, wonderful combination of natural and American history.

J Allan

Way cool location with some amazing history. What a beautiful area

Heidi Martin-Hester

Very spiritual. You have to go there and feel it

Denise Zbozny

Unexpectedly stopped here and found a real gem of a place. Breathtaking views from the summit. Lovely hiking trails. All free!!! Note construction at the Visitor Center. They are in a prefab building with porta potties.

Christopher Merck

An important part of American history - and great views too.

Reuben Closson

Pretty, but needs to give less voice to white Invaders, more voice to Cheyenne, Arapahoe, Pawnee, etc. original inhabitants

Carissa Scheel

Really fun and hiking is really steep

Bobby Kellums

Great place! A definite must see.

Irene Messer

The visitor center was being renovated but the people working in it were very accommodating to us. We were happy to be able to take a bus to the top and back. The park service was filming a promotional movie a we got to be a part of it!

Brent Armfield

This was a great little treasure. Well worth the visit if you can make it. Take the drive up the summit road, great view up there. I didn’t know what to expect but I was very impressed with the monument. A nice history lesson as well.

Crystal Scharlott

The bluffs are pretty cool and you get to go through the only 3 tunnels in the state of Nebraska! The visitor center was under construction as of June 2019 so there was only a trailer and portapotties. However, the staff was friendly and knowledgeable. Personally, I wouldn't bring toddlers here because the trails on the bluffs have no safeguards and there are plenty of cacti. Still a nice place to visit.

Derrick Radtke

Wonderful addition to our family trip. The visitor center was temporarily facility, but the ranger was friendly and helpful. Glad we stopped!

Mary Jennings

Saw the Eclipes, and our backdrop of the monument was Amazing. Ending up here as if led, to a dead end road and that is where we saw the eclipse. It is a beautiful place. Magic, the unicorn enjoyed herself as well.

L TejadaSanchez

Nice hike to tunnel. Panoramic view! Nice welcoming rangers.

James Fattic

Ranger Kelly made our visit to Scott's Bluff National Monument a great experience. His knowledge of the history and suggestions on organizing our time while there were invaluable.

Promod Sharma

A reminder of long ago. Do drive to the top and walk the two short trails. Admission was free.

DJ Jennings

I wasn't sure how much I'd enjoy visiting this place because it's not nearly as large as some other places but it's breathtaking and I'd highly, highly recommend just parking and enjoying the view for a bit if you're in the area.

Liz Norton

What a wonderful piece of Nebradka history. Free admission, and you can drive up to an overlook, then hike in to the bluff.

J&LA Geocats

Love this. A multi geocache & a couple Earthcaches brought us all the way across Nebraska in order to compete both the Nebraska Delorme Challenge and the 93 Counties Challenge where you have to log one cache per every county & map page in order to qualify. Anyway, there was a fun road up to the top complete with tunnels cut through parts of the rock. Cool. The wagon with oxen near Eagle Rock was a nice touch too.

Dalila Vazquez

Nice place, really peaceful and very nice views!

Joseph Volk

Nice views from driving trail to top of lookout, gift shop, video at gift shop.

Sarah Shong

Stunning views. Interesting history of the Oregon Trail. Paved hiking trails. A "must see"!

Jim Miller

You must visit the Monument the view of the North Platte Valley is spectacular! I have taken family/friends to the top more times then I could count and each time I always see something new. Highly recommend it and you will enjoy it! Also, visit the museum at the base of the monument the artifacts are of the early pioneers and Native Americans or take the guided tour. We are proud of Western Nebraska and our heritage and you will understand why once you see what we have to offer and visit with our people on any stop you make while here...you might just decide to stay a while!

Doug Couse

What a gem we have in the Panhandle. Staff is always so friendly. The hiking path is the only way to enjoy the views. Yes you can drive up, but if you can make it by foot, it’s worth it! Be sure to keep your eyes open on the trail for rattlesnakes! We came across this fella early in the morning. Also some other wildlife. Always a beautiful hike.

Alison Duce

Great views. Fantastic staff.

Joshua Boston

This place still awes me every time I come here! Beautiful scenery, amazing view of the Gering-Scottsbluff area, and just all-out awesome!

William Tidyman

I have been here a few times but still love going back. The views from on top of the monument are spectacular and the holing trails are always fun to go walking on. Just recently went back up with some friends and we had a good time. Be sure to bring some water!

cp leblow

Cool rock formation in the middle of nowhere! Had to stop, fee required unless you have an Access Pass. Ranger was friendly and knowledgable and you can drive to the top for a killer view from up high. For the adventurous, you could hike the trail to the top but I didn't have the time. Trail is built into the side of a sheer cliff so it is not advised for those with vertigo or that are faint of heart!

Ever Peters

Very fun! I went there for my class field trip and I loved it. Amazing views the whole way up to the top! I am really wanting to go back.

Thomas Michael Wilson

As beautiful as the picture is, it doesn't do it justice. Must see it in person...it is amazing!

Nare BNSF

Great view and has a great time up on the bluff. Would recommend to people who love scenery and a bit of history

Holly Beckedahl

Absolutely gorgeous!! Loved the history that went with the visit.

Austin Alwood

Imposing National Monument on the Oregon, California, and Mormon Trails. Unfortunately the Visitors Center was undergoing renovation. We were driving an RV so couldn't drive to the top because it wouldn't fit through the tunnels. Couldn't hike to the top because a rock slide had blocked the trail. Did pick up lots of NPS brochures and, as always, learned a lot by reading them.

Kym Lockwood

Great place! Seen a Lakota Dance exhibit. Very informative.

Olga Mackevica

Great national monument.

Matt Grover

Cool place to look at and walk around. Not a lot else to do here

Phillip Smith

Incredible scenery! This bluff in the wildcat hills is way above the surrounding plane, and you can drive to the top of it!

Basal Mouse

Love going up to clear my head and take in the beautiful scenery!

Josh Lubrano

We walked up it and then back down. I would suggest skiing this in the morning before it gets too hot out. It was a cool hike and it was about 3.2 miles. There is a great view from the top.

beauuaeb uaeb

It's free admission now so it a good thing to check out if you're passing through

Leon Borgomainerio

Nice drive to the top and look out on the town was awesome. Visitor center was under construction but got our stamps.

Cindy Griebe

This is a beautiful location. You can see the whole valley in almost every direction from the top of the bluffs.

Doug Peters

Has the only 3 car tunnels in Nebraska, plus great views and historical info.

Iman udin

Beware they closed the road and shuttle bus not operating they said no bus driver at this time .Visitor center under construction. July 29 2019.

Terry Wittgren

Very pretty worth the stop and time you have to drive to the top very very cool

Charles bum

Incredible views and great people in the area

Hiking With Hendrix

Such a nice place to explore. Hiking with dogs allowed, on leash of course.

Melinda McCullough

Great challenging trail to the top! Beautiful views and a bike trail that goes back toward Gering!

Organic Papa

Great living history!

Ken and Alicia Lund

An amazing piece of American pioneer history and a natural wonder. This monument exceeded my expectations. It was gorgeous up there. Beautiful vistas, fascinating rock formations, and pleasant trails. It is a beautiful area throughout. It offers both history and geologic interest. Highly recommend if you are taking a trip to this area.

Wendy Meyer

All I can say is, don't miss this. The history - the scenery - the self guided tour. All amazing!

Denise Koster

The museum is nice. If you go up, the view is spectacular--on a clear day, you can see the Rocky Mountains. Two ways to get to the top: drive on the road made by the CCC, or walk up the hiking trail. Get your National Park passport stamp in the gift shop, and take a picture with the entry sign.

Beanman Bo

Beautiful scenic views from the top

Leslie Trullinger

First time there, loved the views.

Rimpi Singh

It is surrounded by nice similar structures. We faced thunderstorm accompanied by hail and lightning and they recommended to stay indoor and that was the end of it.

Harry England

A really nice place to visit

Jeremy Wells

Amazing views and alot of interesting history!!

Charlie

Nice park. Well kept. Fun disc golf course

Jimmy Weith

Beautiful scenery and friendly rangers! The short drive to the summit parking is fun and the views are amazing

Troy Youel

BEAUTIFUL AND QUITE. HISTORIC AREA

Phillip Seidl

Scott's Bluff was literally and figuratively one of the gateways for westward emigration along the Oregon and California Trails... So it has its place in human history but even more so it has a place in geologic history dating back 25 million years. My wife and I walked along part of the Oregon Trail and hiked the trail ascending the Bluff enjoying the scenery and magnificent views. Interpretive information is available through your phone and the park rangers are knowledgeable. I give it 5 stars despite the fact the Vistors Center is a temporary trailer and upgrades would be a good investment.

Margaret Behling

Lots of people traveled past this landmark as they perused their dreams.

Clarence Bennett

Great piece of history here. Make sure you spray yourself with deet bug spray before visiting. No see-ums are horrible.

Jon Canfield

Beautiful location with lots of history.

Stephanie DeLillo

Nice park. Has a couple trails you can walk with an audio tour you can do from your phone. Visitor center was still under construction so couldnt enjoy the full exhibit but they have a few informational pieces in the temporary visitor center

Aaron Wells

Unexpected historical interpretative site and impressive natural bluffs rising over the Nebraska plains. Worth a stop if you are passing through, doubly so if you have an interest in the Oregon Trail and the history of American West. Note: There is a Junior Ranger program, but the visitor center is a temporary one, with a new one being constructed for 2020.

victor martinez

My and my family likes this place beautiful

Jane Olson

Every time we visit Scottsbluff we drive the monument. Great to get to the top and walk around.

Jay Colond

This free-of-charge national parks site is totally worth the detour from the Interstate and hair raising, but short drive to the top. Windy views of the plains are spectacular. I wish we had time for the 1-hour hike!

Esther Castaneda

Nebraska we go to the monument because it's beautiful as you come down the monument you will see a rock at the tip it is shaped into the Blessed Mother thank you Jesus
