Awesome ' just moved back to idaho from Missouri and loved the drive and even saw a black bear

shadowmage45

A bit too much traffic for personal tastes, and weather forecasts are 100% unreliable for the area.

Karen DeGrave

The are is absolutely beautiful

Love spending time up here....great place to leave it all behind you for a while, and empty of room to be able to get away from everybody else. Miles of road to chose from, so no 2 trips ever have to be the same. If you can't find the inner peace you need out here, it doesn't exist!

Alana Ramirez

A wild and rustic backcountry hike or backpacking journey can be found here. We back packed for three days and didn't encounter any other hikers even on the CDT. I do not like hiking in pants and my legs paid the price on these often overgrown trails but it was worth it. Don't forget your map and compass - one of the trails simply disappeared so you'll want tools to navigate. Water is fairly plentiful, as are butterflies! The area burned many years back and it's interesting to see how it is recovering.

Ralph Palmer

Trail #497 is a logging road. Pretty well maintained and easy to hike. We didn't get anywhere near the top of the trail, but it was a nice hike.

Dianna Kersey

Mills Falls! A truly hidden gem!

stephan strickland

So beautiful

Bruce & Monica Crouse

Great place

Doug Luehr

Beautiful, worth spending a few weeks hiking and camping.

Elaina Graham

If you are not impressed by the Big Snowy Mountains as you drive by, that's no surprise - it is a pretty small range, rising out of the farm and range land around it. But if you like high mountains with expansive views, this is the place to go. You will, quite simply, be stunned by what you will find at the top of this range. Go. I'm telling you, go and check it out.

David Douglas

Some road maintenance has desperately been needed for years. Plus, the last 3 years, they've started thinning trees during hunting season. April-Aug would be a much better time for this. Overall, I'm spending time in the woods. Nothing to complain about.

Cole Stefan

Plenty of camp grounds and beautiful scenery

Gail D Lenher Andrews

My family went camping here one night and had a very good time from their over-night trip and we have been back to the same pace two separate times because it is so beautiful. The smells the, the colors, the quietness, except for the sounds of the stream and the wind, and our own voices. Every once in a while we saw a camper driving by coming to or from their favorite spot. But, we were able to sit at a picnic table and let my 1 year old great grand-daughter play and discover what she can see that we as adults can not.

The angry leprachan

I was looking for hope county

LuAnn Schmidt

Beautiful trails

Renae Munson

Too many people with less areas to ride. Forest service has cut/lay down live healthy trees that will add fuel to future fires destroying our forest with our money.

Hid out here over the 4th of July weekend while pedaling across the country on my bicycle. The campgrounds get filled up on holidays, so it is always nice to have all this public land to pedal off into and pitch a tent. I spent two nights here at two different locations. It was fun to camp beside some snow drifts in July. I met some real nice people that invited me back to their cabin for breakfast, let me take a spin on the fourwheeler and then took me on a tour of the area in their four wheel drive.

Karen Moore

Its a great camping spot

I get it that it's a forest....but the flys...just stay home.

Lots of room. Lol. Beautiful valley on Hughsville road. Busy on the weekends with atv's and 4wheelers

Gregory Gregory

I love the woods, I live in the woods, I work in the woods 6 months a year. This particular area is my home woods where I hike, hunt, berry pick, camp, ride trails, and observe nature. More and more great low impact camping areas are being closed every year due to the mismanagement of our woods. It's so disappointing to drive up there ready to camp in your favorite spot away from the crowd of four wheelers and side by sides, just to find out it has been closed off. The people who utilize this area are very low impact. There's zero trash left behind. Their camp fires are out cold. I spread the ashes on strawberries and raspberry plants, naturally fertilizing them. Within a week or two one can't even tell someone had camped there. But the forest service seems intent on cramming everyone into a small area and have huge impact on it. It's not peaceful. It is crowded. It is noisy. It is dusty. Lewis and Clark National Forest is a disappointingly mismanaged area. The woods are an amazing place, nature is beautiful. So much for peaceful camping.

Araitz

It's nothing special really.

Beautifull tall pine forest with lots of forest roads and dispersed camping possibilities. You'll love this fresh pine scent in the air upon waking to bird songs and deers drinking in the river. Enjoy but respect this natural jewel.

This National Forest always impresses. So vast and with nature being the most impressive way to get in touch with Our Creator, I'm in the right place. I love Montana!

Deborah Causey

Drove through on a beautiful day. Steep grades in some places. We were towing our trailer and didn't expect it.

Frank Aranda Reviews

Just about 45min out of town. Out of Great Falls for me. Makes you feel like you are on another planet. The drive alone is enough to take your breath away. Crisp air that heightens the senses. Beutiful trees that line the road in any direction. And of course an array of wildlife that keeps you on your toes. From the deer to antelope and mountain goats that seem to defy gravity any road taken out of town instantly makes you feel better. As for the forest itself what can I say bit you truly have to experience it yourself to truly understand the captivating and enlightening experience. The mountains are beautiful teaming with wildlife and vegetation native to this area. Variety of trees and flowers only add to this special canvas. And if your into it overnight there's are numerous campgrounds that can satisfy your needs. My personal favorite is the sites that offer amenities such as restrooms but if your a more Bear Gryls style there are sites where you would truly be one with nature. Trails and waterfalls also compliment the area. All I can say is go! Explore and be happy!

makala tronson

With all of the natural wonder and beauty located here, in the heart of Montana, its easy to see why people choose to live away from it all. So many places to check out and views that will take your breath away, especially if you're willing to hike some. I always say my heart loves on a mountain outside of Monarch.
