Loved this original settler ranch and all the history behind it. A wonderful house tour by a well informed guide. Full of historical facts about the owners and their families. Working forge and a cowboy with the chuck wagon also very informative. All this in a wonderful backdrop of Montana grazing lands and mountains. We nearly missed this exhibit because its not very well signposted or advertised. The museum ladies told us about it and so glad they did. There was also a working demo of fur from ranch visitors such as wolves, coyotes, foxes, etc. Deer Lodge is worth a whole days visit.

We stopped at this NP leaving Glacier NP to Yellowstone to get a stamp in my Passport to National Parks and we are so happy we stopped. What a great preservation of our western history. The guide was full of knowledge, the grounds are extremely well kept and the tour of the house was awesome. This is one place you want to stop in between your park trips!

What a great place! Definitely underrated. We almost didn't go due to the hours we were spending in the car that day, but so glad we decided to go! So may things to do: house tours, wagon tours of the ranch, learn about blacksmithing, milking, cowboys, try your hand at throwing a lasso, and so much more!

I did not know the extent of this monument until I arrived and did not allow myself enough time. Allow at least 2 hours, probably more. Discover one of the largest cattle operations ever and the various trades and facilities required to support it.

This one of the gems of the National Park System! It's a great place to learn about the history of cattle ranching and to see how it's done from a historical perspective. The ranch is so beautiful and also makes for a great hike. The grass gets nice and tall during the summer especially just before haying begins. The town of Deer Lodge is also an awesome place to visit and has an authentic charm to it. Absolutely worth the visit!

A great small park on the way to Glacier National Park from Wyoming/Colorado area. Takes about an hour to see everything without a tour, but go on a tour if you can. It is worth it, the rangers and volunteers bring the place alive. A don't forget the cowboy coffee!

Huge ranch in its time. Free but take donations. Forest rangers give your of house, buildings, blacksmith, sheep wagon cook and horse rider. They are friendly and do great job on the presentations.

Awesome place. Historically, it is not especially significant - but it is significant in that it has 150 years of unbroken records of events and business of a working ranch. It is incredibly interesting as an example of an often overlooked piece of westward expansion and the legends of cowboys in America. The rangers and volunteers are very knowledge and friendly. It's free, and definitely worth a couple hours of your time. See the blacksmith shop and watch them make various products, also sold in the visitor center.

Awesome experience and very informative. Park ranger at the entrance taught me and my kids all about bison and how they were used in the 1800s. Tons of stuff to look at, recomend taking the horse drawn carriage around the farm and then enjoying some cowboy coffee made over a fire by a cowboy.

This ranch gives visitors a clear understanding of how people lived and worked on a place devoted to cattle. Goid for children. Short tour inside house shows how the woman of the house prided herself in her home. I loved the visit and thought it worth my time.

We wanted to show our sister n'law so it was on our vacation list. No house tour either which is what we really wanted to do.

Montana's cattle ranching history and the men who were leaders in this industry. On our journey to collect Junior Park Ranger badges for my nephew, we traveled to Grant-Kohrs Ranch National Park on our way to Glacier National Park. We'd just seen Lewis & Clark Cavern State Park (Montana badge) and Yellowstone (Bear patch), so the Grant-Kohrs Ranch National Park was going to have pretty big shoes to fill to impress us at the time. The way I would compare this park to the others I just mentioned is that while the others are focused on attraction(s) and wildlife, the Grant-Kohrs Ranch National Park is more of a living museum. There you'll find people working as a ranch hand or a blacksmith who explain their trade and the park rangers with give you a tour of the main house. Our tour guide for the main house was friendly and tried her best to answer any questions she knew the answers to. But some people (including my nephew) were asking a lot of really difficult questions that would receive a, "That's a great question, but unfortunately I don't know that." response. Of course, I would imagine that early 1900s sewage disposal questions are probably outside the scope for the rangers to know anyhow; it's not like the previous owners kept a record of that. Anyhow, the main house is filled with ornate furnishings, you're able to walk into stables and the living quarters for the people who use to work there, and the surrounding scenery is beautiful all around the park. So while it may not be the most impressive national park you'll visit (especially for some younger Junior Park Ranger collectors); it's certainly a great place to learn about the history of American ranching.

Outstanding place to visit. I would of gave it five stars but we started with the house tour and our tour guide was rude. We were told to stay in the area that was roped off. We were taking turns looking into rooms and my husband and I moved out of the way to let others see up close and was reprimanded that we we wandering and not listening when we were less than five feet from her. We couldn't wait to get out of the house. The lighting is so weak inside that you really can't see very well. The rest of the Rangers gave a excellent tour and the chuck wagon coffee was delicious.

This place was pretty amazing!! We went to get our National Parks Passport book stamped but it turned out to be pretty spectacular!!! There was a working blacksmith shop and a real cowboy with coffee brewing over an open fire! LOTS of buildings to self guide through. Cows and horses and chicken. We went out of our way to go so we didn't have time for the tour of the house but wish we had! The views were amazing as well. The husband and wife team that we met at the visitors center were so nice and super helpful. They volunteer their time to work there! We were both super impressed!!!!

The grounds are beautiful, the history is both interesting and entertaining, the park rangers were kind and engaging, the ranch cats were a bonus. I recommend doing the house tour and if you have children do the junior ranger program!

Visiting Grant-Kohr's Ranch was a wonderful experience. It is the only ranch that the National Park Service owns where they are allowed to talk about the open ranch days from the 1860s to 1900. The tour of the house is well worth the time.

We took a walking self guided tour of the ranch exibits. Also took a guided tour of the cattle baron home on the ranch. It was a free tour! My favorite thing was the Chuck Wagon display were the women there in period clothing made cowboy coffee for sampling. She talked about the check wagon and the Cook's that ran them. The coffee was excellent so I bought some in the gift shop. On the tour of the house they talked about the Grant and Kohrs empire. On the ranch bunkhouse displays I had wished they talked more about the life of the cowboys during that time period. Also I felt they should have a trail system throughout the hole working ranch.

I didn't think I'd like this place as much as I did, but it was a lot of fun. The house tour was great, and the tour guide was really good at too. Since it was just my family, we got a personal tour. If you're at all interested in historical cattle farms, do stop by. It's really close to the freeway, and is a straight shot from the off ramp.
