The Homochitto national Forest is beautiful but I wish they wouldn’t burn the woods when the turkeys are laying their eggs because they kill the eggs and the turkey population is getting way low!

We camped in the primitive camping site for one night in May 2019. The site is pretty big and actually very primitive. We liked the environment a lot except the annoying flies. So bugsaway repellent is a must to have at this time of a year. However, it may not be easy to find because the primitive site is on the sideway of the road with only a small sign on your left if you are driving towards the clear spring camping ground. It is about 1 mile from the few station. Bring some changes because there may not be a host in site. As regards to the Richardson trail, it is as long as 10 miles, one of the most challenging one for us. But the view and the sense of accomplishment cannot be beaten. Remember to bring enough water to keep you hydrated!!!

There is a cemetery right next to the Homochitto Ranger Station. I had a funeral there. I'm in the Navy Honor Guard and I was doing the Honors over the funeral. It is very cold outside. Standing outside for a few minutes I had to go pee. Emergency fast, could not hold it, had to go pee. I went over to the Ranger Station to see if I could use the restroom & also get changed into my uniform. They wouldn't even let me use the restroom. I almost pissed myself listening to the woman at the front desk explain that there were no public restrooms & she had to think about where the closest facility was. How is it that you would rather mop your floor than let someone use your bathroom?

Don't get me wrong, this is a nice park with a nice layout, clean and quiet, but I was very disappointed to wake up on the morning on January 30th, 2016 on a Saturday to billowing smoke filling my campsite as well as the rest of the Clear Springs area. There were no signs on the road or near the entrance, nor any notice on their website saying there would be a controlled burn of several hundred acres of national forest that would cause me to have to breathe smoke all day and all night long; my buddy and I actually had to vacate the forest to get fresh air for a few hours, only to come back to suffer through a night of smoke inhalation due to no hotel vacancy's near by. On my return trip home through today (February 1st) I am still coughing. Unbelievable.

Richardson Creek Trail was clean and marked sufficiently to follow. A future service project would be to add additional markers as well as create a trail back to Clear Springs Campground from western quadrant. All in all, though, it makes for a good adventure.

I stayed at the campgrounds at Clear Springs when I was on a motorcycle trip, and this was some of the best camping on my whole trip. There wasn't really anyone there. You could hear the RV's generators, but that is typical. The camp attendant was very nice, and chatted me up a bit in the morning before I left. The water was really nice, although I didn't have time to swim, it looked like a nice time.
