Small, but very informative visitors center. Interactive map is very interesting. Nice picnic areas. Short, but slightly steep walk to the Monument. Part of the Appalachian Trail.

Beautiful park with play areas, picnic areas and hiking trails. You can take the short trail up to the monument, which is beautiful. For so fun history go into the visitor center the staff is very informative and welcoming.

Did a planned short hike that turned into a 7 hour one. The path up is not very hard but is filled with large uneven rocks. Without the proper footgear you can easily twist an ankle. Also the way up is not very scenic until you get up to the mountain.

Very few people when we went in November. The first had a carpet of leaves and the views at sunset were awesome. The trail is steep at first and near a highway but keep going and it levels out and gets much quieter. Lots of places to camp out, an at shelter and a campground for tents near Annapolis rocks. Short hike from Annapolis rocks to Black Rock, maybe a mile.

I visited this park to hike up to Annapolis Rocks and rock climb. The hike was pretty easy but about 3 miles each way. There is not much elevation change and its mostly just a stroll through the woods. . View from Annapolis Rocks is pretty great but standard for the region (comparable to Sugarloaf, not as great as Harper's ferry.) There is a cool lake and what appears to be a quarry or mine dotting the landscape. There must be a race track in the valley below because we were there for the better part of a Sunday and there was the occasional high revving motor heard in the distance. Rock climbing here was pretty good. Lots of upper body strength and roofs. For the climbs on faint's roof, be prepared to have an audience from the hikers visiting the rocks.

This is Black Rock Cliff. Round about a mile off of White Oak Rd outside of Smithsburg. Great hike and awesome scenery always a good hike when just me or when the fam comes out for a leg strecth lol

This is where I'm from. This is where my husband propossed to me. This is 30 years later and still going strong. So I suppose it's a lucky spot too. GEN. George Washington Camp post in his day and Visited by many other US Presidents. A shorting down the Mt. Side is a lookout obsurvatry. There is a reader station located at nearly the top. Horseback police and a campground as well as a playground and picnic area for the family. A REALY wonderful place to clear your head and spend time with loved ones.

Caretaker was great, park is beautiful. Great view of the night sky from Annapolis Rocks. There's a drag strip nearby but don't blame the noise on the park, just enjoy the silence and space between sounds.

Amazing area. I loved both washington monument and Annapolis rocks. The only bad thing about annapolis rocks trail is the road noise, but once you are at the top, you can barely hear the cars. Views on annapolis rocks is so awesome! I have been to many overlooks, from smokies to west va, and this rivals them all. Not the highest, but gorgeous nonetheless. Trail isn't too hard either, but bring good shoes as some areas are very rocky. Also, when you are at annapolis rocks, be careful of the rocks. If you see green algae looking stuff on it, it will be slick on humid days even! Be very careful on the edges as well, it is very dangerous! Parents, watch your kids!

This was an awesome hiking experience! I am not an experienced hiker, in fact I have only hiked a handful of times. This climb took me about an hour and a half to complete. The path was very well groomed and there were not to many portions that were extremely steep.

We hiked the 5.2 mile hike to Annapolis Rocks out-and-back Trail very nice views and overlook! Ascend all the way to the Overlook and then descends all the way back to the parking area. The parking area is kind of limited in cars so go much earlier in the day is best

We started out on the Thomas Griggs trail which was a nice little hike along a small creek. Due to poor signage we thought we were hiking further up the Griggs trail to the creek head but what turned out to be the Appalachian trail instead, there really should be a sign there for unseasoned hikers before they end up several miles down the wrong trail. Thankfully, we are not unseasoned and it was a lovely unexpected challenge going over the rocks.

SAM DUCHARME

This is a great place to camp on your way through on the AT. The westerly view is perfect for sunset viewing and the cliff is also great for star gazers. There are many campsites to choose from and they have on site staff who are helpful and plesant. They have clean privys and sites that accommodate groups (with reservations.) There is a lot packed into this little known spot, I'm happy I stumbled into it while thru hiking the AT.

I hiked Thurston Griggs trail starting on white oak Road in smithsburg. This was an amazing trail, beautiful, but very steep and rocky. It's ranked as an Easy trail on a lot of websites but I beg to differ. It's easy once you reach the white blaze trail (Appalachian section) but that's about 2 miles in. Took me about an hour up the trail and then 35 minutes going back down. If you're looking for a longer hike, there is a shelter and camp area along the white blaze here.

Lovely park. We chose to do the short Annapolis Rock hike during the 'peak' foliage weekend and it definitely did not disappoint. Beautiful outlook from Annapolis Rock, not to mention, it is a pretty neat cliff itself. Spacious trails and unexpectedly not crowded, as opposed to the neighboring Cunningham Falls. We arrived around 10am on a Saturday, and parked on the street adjacent to the small (and fully occupied) lot. 10/10 would do this again!
