REVIEWS OF Shenandoah National Park IN Maryland

Joe Otto

Loved it out here. I would give it a 5 star rating but a little pricey.

Matthew McCormick

An awesome national park with great views along Skyline Drive. Pets are permitted on some trails but not all. Campgrounds are pet friendly.

debbie lowe

The trees are so tall that it's hard to see the valley and mountains

Valerie Thomas

Stunning views. Take a nice hike or drive down skyline drive. Stay for the sunset.

victoria portier

Came here for first camping experience with fiancée. We stayed at Mathews arm and it was a great intro to camping! Can’t wait to go back and see some bears :)

Stan B

It was very relaxing. Beautiful overlooks. The waysides were expensive, which is what you come to expect. We seen lots of deer. Nice views of the country and mountains.

Jason Rimmer

Loft Campground was great, walk up site very private and serene with trail right to the AT. Austin Mountain and Furnace Summit loop was beautiful!

Bob Barnhardt Sr

Fantastic area to explore. The views are unbelievable! Well worth the trip!

Andrei Astapka

Phenomenal national park with countless trails, beautiful scenery, flourishing wild life! In a span of four days we encountered 8 bears, a dozen deer, two sneaks, bat, and other forest dwellers.

Brian Kable

Awesome! Very nice and very well maintained. Nice Rangers and staff at the gift shops and stores you come across. Highly recommend!

David Wiggins

This is a really spectacular park! It's also enormous. I was here for two days and I only really saw the top half. It would be easy enough to drive through the whole park but I kept getting distracted by all the nice views along the way. I even saw a bear just hanging out on the side of the road. There are a lot of hikes to do as well. I did the "old rag" hike which the rangers describe as the most popular in the park. It was very difficult but really rewarding with great views from the top. I definitely recommend coming here. I can't wait to go back!

Robert Stephens

Been coming for years, but the breakfast at the (remodeled) Big Meadows wayside was a major disappointment . Gone is real breakfast food and service. One must use a dysfunctional kioss to order. No more traditional breakfast offered... just weird combos some city slickers would desire! No wonder the place was almost empty!

Amanda McMillan

Nothing beats the Shenandoah National Park. Tons of wildlife, and usually very clean. The people are almost always courteous- this last time not so much. Had a guy in a S2000 practically run me off the road, motorcycles do nothing but ride your tail and fly past- enjoyable only in the fall...

Donald Maitland

Trail heads identified with big signs and trails are clearly marked. Beautiful drive along Skyline Drive

Eric Covell

This is a great park. There are so many overlook areas on the 105 miles of mountain top drive. This park is very accessible because of them. The hike at Stony Man Mountain is a nice short hike on an easy trail. Sky Land has great views and restrooms.

Caleb Rothe

An absolutely gorgeous National Park. We did the full Skyline drive from north to south. I highly recommend it if you have the time. Scenic overlooks start to feel the same overtime, so no need to stop at all 75. Our favorite was Pinnacles Overlook. Definitely stop and take a look at that one.

Craig Alner

So many great spots for hiking, meditation, and photography. You'll meet friendly folks along g the way

Johnathan Siebert

Shenandoah National Park is a beautiful national park with over 200,000 acres of protected wilderness, abundant wildlife, scenic overlooks, and miles and miles of trails with soaring views. It does cost to get in, but is well worth it especially if you camp in one of their campgrounds (highly recommend Loft Mountain Campground) or with a National Park pass you get free entry!

Carol Butler

Really nice ride today. Not much color in the leaves yet, but it will be soon. We saw a few hawks, squirrels, and deer. Great temperature. Missed the rain. Good day.

Stephen Paltev

I knocked off one star because of the cost to get in. I enjoy coming here though. Try to plan a couple trips in a short time because the pass is good for 7 days.

Julia Lowery

Gorgeous! There's a $30 entrance fee per car for all national parks but it's well worth it for the well maintained natural scenery and trails.

Ken Corigliano

Needs bike Lanes or at least constant bike striping on the road and signs. I love this place but people drive 60 miles an hour around blind corners.

Caren Gibbs

Awesome hike! Very challenging. Rock scramble is a lot of fun.

Sol Tan

awesome park to camp and hike. family friendly and also a great place to get away from the city.

Bryan Preston

Absolutely stunning, the campsites were nice and the trails were well marked. It was awesome to see and hear all of the wildlife. There were plenty of deer and we saw two black bears while hiking.

Cristián Navarrete Dechent

We stayed at Big Meadows Lodge inside the park. Totally recommended. The park is huge! It takes about 4 hrs to drive from the north to the south gate. Multitude of overlooks and trails.

preeti shakya

A beautiful get away. The skyline drive on blue ridge is most amazing experience. If you enjoy woods and hike this is best place.

Dwight Mattox

My wife,Denise and I celebrated our 25th wedding anniversary by camping at Loft Mountain. WE HAD A WONDERFUL TIME!!!!!!!!!!!! It was quite and plenty of wildlife. The visas on Skyline Dr was great too. The two young women at the camp store were great too. Thanks Shenandoah for a great celebration

Taylor Reed

Not a very enjoyable place to work, from how we saw the staff behave... But the park scenery is amazing.

peter wassel

Lots of driving but totally worth it for the amazing views. You can get lots of vertical in short distances. There's something here for everyone.

David Sherwood

Skyline Drive of the Shenandoah National Park essentially runs down the spine of the Blue Ridge Mountains. There are many overlook pullouts and hiking trails. We were here last weekend of September and fall colors were patchy however it was shorts and shirt sleeve shirt weather. There are three lodges in the park and all had availability. Gas/convenience store is also available. Pick up trail maps at the welcome center.

Maideline Escobar

Take my breath away! Literally, stunning views- some of the best sunsets I’ve ever seen. Rangers are all very helpful and nice! Very well kept. Highly recommend for a perfect getaway!

Kc Kramp

Loved this Park. There is a105 Mike drive through the park we took 3 short holes and stopped a many overlooks. Spent from sunrise to sunset. A great day.

mukul pai

Would visit during the falls. With vibrant fall colors the place and the skyline drive would be fantastic.

Ali Sadat

We stayed at the Skylands Resort in the Park. Had a wonderful couple of days exploring the great views of Shenandoah valley and the park itself, did a short trek to nicely named Dark Hollow Falls, and also got to see a bear on top of a tree

Ashley Pratt

Gorgeous place! It costs to get in, but is 110% worth it. Wonderful, scenic views...well maintained trials and facilities...overall, an amazing experience. We can't wait to go back!

Trice B

Jehovah's creation is amazing!!! Absolutely beautiful ❤️

Todd McClure

Loved it...So Beautiful!! Friendly and helpful staff.

Joy Bonsted

Great place to enjoy the outdoors, hike, and see wildlife! If you aren't up to hiking you can enjoy the scenery along Skyline Drive from your car. We saw a bear cross the hiking path, a black snake next to a path, plenty of birds, and some deer.

Carol Kathrein

Would have been better if not for rain and fog. Lots of scenic overlooks but full of fog

Ultimate Computer Services

What a magnificent place. Our first national park and it surely was amazing. We loved it and hope we can visit more and come back again.

Cathy VerSchneider

Loft Mt. Campground. Four nights, departing Saturday morning. Avoided the weekender frenzy. Campsite A56 was on the perimeter, had a breeze and sufficient sunlight to dry out our gear. One night offered an exciting thunderstorm all around us that took out power for 24 hours, so cold showers were not fun. Nearby store and restaurant. Abundant wildlife...deer, rabbits, bears, butterflies, and birds. AT runs past campground. Nearby trails have waterfalls and scenic lookouts. Trails are well marked. A great camping experience with near perfect weather. Night temperature range high 50s mid 60s. Perfect!

Bill Fekete

Shenandoah is a beautiful park. Accessible to many of us in the eastern part of the mid-west. The views are spectacular. You can feel very close to nature here. Lots of deer. Camping is great. Have stayed at Loft Mountain and Big Meadow. Both beautiful and different. Highly recommended.

Amirreza Sedaghat

Great place. Amazing night sky. If you are staying take a chance to observe the night sky! Not much of light pollution out here

RC Chao

Amazing solo ride on my new bike. A great way to enjoy the lush and richness of the VA countryside. Very clean park and speed limit is 35 mph for the entire 105 miles. I could do this every year. Motorcycle fee is $25 but since I was active duty military, I was able to use the national park pass. Simply amazing.

Narrin Jonas

A beautiful place. Especially good for it's trails and hikes. Ample facilities and stops for washrooms with Lookouts for the sunset. Skyline drive is a long road so plan trips properly.

Ken Boone

We had a great day. Drove to the park visitors center. Purchased a trails book then asked the park rangers there about the near by loop trail to Lewis falls. The Rangers recommend a starting point, route to take and where to park. We ate our lunch in the campground next to the visitors center then parked our car at the adjacent amphitheater parking. The trail falls trail is accessed from the parking lot by a short path to the junction of the Appalachian and falls trails. We followed the blue tree markings as we descended down the rocky trail. (Walking sticks recommend.) When we reached the falls they didn't look like much. However there's a path around the back of the falls to a viewing platform reveling the beautiful tall falls. We continued the blue trail till then the Appalachian trail back to our car. The loop took us over three hours of fairly strenuous hiking but it was great.

Moving on with Old Man River Old man river

This is a great park on skyline drive. The drive and park is 105 miles across with about 75 Vista turn offs There are three visitors centers in the park. A great time to go is the fall as the leaves are changing colors. The Appalachian Trail runs through the park so expect to see hikers with large backpack is. You should also expect to see wildlife The cost of the park is 30.00 for a 7 day pass. This is one of the most visited national parks.

Jon H

I guess 5 stars, but how else would you rate a national park like this? You should try to visit at some point. Just driving around and stopping at the viewpoints is amazing. If you have time to stay and hike around, that's even better. It's nice if you have a specific trail you want to try, but with kids,.just find a nearby trail and go for a lovely walk in the woods. You might see wild turkeys, deer, and even bear. But the fun is just spending time in the forest with the kids.

Steve D

No easy but worth the effort if you can make it to the top of Old Rag thru "the scramble". If not, take the fire trail up and back.

Cory Middleton

One of my favorite national parks in the country. Take on the "little devil stairs" hike for a scenic/ tough hike.

Mia Guinther

Well maintained. One $20 entry fee is good for a week of travel. Conveniently and scenic stops along the way. Hikes, waterfalls, and wildlife.

Chris Powers

One of our great national parks! If you can dream it, you can probably do it here. We have hiked the Appalacian Trail all through the park. Camping is so amazing here and with so many campground choices, everyone can find a site that will make them happy campers. If you like waterfalls, there are a great many to explore. Here is also the magical place where there are more deer sightings than squirrels.

Oliver Rapp

Shenandoah is a really great national park. The park staff are really helpful and helped me select a great trail for the amount of time I had.

stefan voogel

My wife and I went camping to Shenandoah Big Meadows recently. It was our first time there. Before getting to the campground we drove on Skyline Drive with its amazing views of the area! The campsite was well equipped with a picnic table and a firepit alrhough our site was a bit small to our liking. The surrounding grass area was not kept short which leads to lots of bugs....... The amazing thing about this place is that deer roam freely on the site. There is a caution out for bears and the rangers are very strict to enforce the regulations which is a good thing. On this visit we did not see any bears unfortunately. We did a 3 hour hike from our site to Lewis Falls through dense forest. The park is really great for hiking! Public restroom facilities on the campground could be better cleaned and maintained specially when the campground is fully occupied. If you love hiking and nature this is the place to be otherwise there is not much else to do..

Stephen Botts

Just picked up my annual park pass and did my first day hike last week. I got to hit Compton Peak and later hit the Fort Windham Rocks formation before heading out. Beautiful scenery and nature throughout!

Mike F

Absolutely beautiful! Numerous scenic outlooks on both sides of the road. I chose this drive partly for the more peaceful option to the interstate, and partly to find an appropriate spot to propose to my girlfriend! She said yes!

Avinash Venkataraman

One of the easily accessible national parks with a lot of hotels and inns around the area. There colors in fall are just mind-blowing. The skyline drive is a one road path that leads you to all major attractions like trails, waterfalls and viewpoints. Make sure to also visit the Luray Caverns very nearby. It has multiple entrance points in different regions making it easy to go in and out.

Kelam 09

Shenandoah is so beautiful. We haven't taken any of the trails yet. I just take any visitors on the drive and they stop and take pictures. I recommend stopping to use the restroom before entering the park. Sometimes lines are long to enter the and bathrooms can get busy.

Rita Mayo

Simply Beautiful. I love this place, a slow peaceful drive where you have the opportunity to enjoy the views. I entered at the Afton Mountain entrance and exited at the Swift Run entrance. I stopped at all the overlooks to check out the views. If you have the time for a slow pace ride (35 mph), want to enjoy some views, like to catch a view of anything from Bears to Chipmunks, Wild Flowers to Changing Tree Colors, then you should definitely give this place a try. You will be glad you did.

D. Lee Morris

Absolutely beautiful national park. So many trails, waterfalls, scenic views, activities, and one truly amazing drive along Skyline Drive. There is a ranger station with small museum, large lodge with restaurant, pub, conference rooms, and cabins in several sizes. Wide array of wildlife around, just be cautious with bears. A wonderful must-do vacation plan for the whole family.

Michael Pecora

Gorgeous National Park in the Eastern United States! Clean facilities, numerous overlook locations and endless hikes to beautiful, remote points.

Scott Bailey

I've never been there before. I have a father in Law, Brother in Law, his wife and family on my wife's side that lives near thete,! So peaceful, and they had a very nice Restaurant there too!

Erma Whitfield

Awesome place! Loft mountain campground is very nice! Saw a bear on skyline drive!

John Forstmeier

Beautiful location. The hike up Old Rag is awesome and I recommend getting there when it opens to beat the crowds because there will be crowds.

Doug Foster

I have been all over the west coast parks and this was one of the best. Wish I could have spent more time here.

Christine Muraska

AN ABSOLUTE MUST!!!!!!! We spent 8 hours driving up and down the mountains. Everyone was friendly (except for the older lady who serves food and one of the main stops). We seen rangers stopping and talking to people. Just absolutely breathtaking

Dabney Barber

Enjoy nature's beauty ( driving the Skyline Drive, camping, or hiking). Friendly, helpful staff/ rangers. Nice places to eat. Clean restrooms. Very restful.

Bill Hagerty

The views along skyline drive are amazing. Can't wait to come back in the fall, but I know it will be jam packed! Be aware, however, there are a TON of flies at every overlook. They are a true nuisance!

Robert Hunter

Beautiful place to visit! We drove the Skyline trail in a convertible! It was great!

Bob Grub

A very beautiful National Park. The scenery is amazing. There are hundreds of miles of hiking trails. And if you’re lucky, you might see a black bear!

ManinDandism

It's a beautiful place to go camping, sightseeing and take pictures. Especially the fall. It's breathtaking.

Mickey Holiday

Amazing place for hikers at all levels in the Northern Virginia Area. The trail to this view took less than 30 min and was fairly easy to hike.

janet geldenhuys

Beautiful Sunsets!! I’m intrigued and would love to go back and explore the hiking opportunities more

AngryTexan

Beautiful place. Especially in the fall when the leaves change. Go for a day or a week. All the hiking you could ever hope for.

Neha Nair

If you love Nature, then you will love this place. Beautiful forest filled with lovely wild flowers and tons of waterfalls all around. Will definitely visit again

David E. Montgomery

Incredible is the word I would use to describe this place! There is so much wildlife. The campgrounds and facilities are great and comfortable and inviting.

Aaron Riedemann

The skyway drive is a must. The hikes are great too with such a great view almost every where you look. You'll take more photos then you'll know what to do with

Amanda Chase

Absolutely gorgeous! Lots to see and the gift shop was nice. I did not try any but they offer free fudge samples of fudge they make on the premises. Wow!

Shannon O'Connor

Shenandoah was so amazing to hike and camp at. We brought our husky and there were so many trails for us to bring him on. We can't wait to go back and explore more trails. Each day we were exhausted but just amazed at the views we saw.

Ken Spitzer

All I can say is WOW!!! Took me 8 hours to roll 105 miles on my cycle. All the lookouts were amazing. Only stopped at 15 of the 75 and got 127 pics. Worth the cost.

Raphael Steiner

A lovely place for camping and hiking. We stayed at the big meadows campground and did the cedar run trail. I can highly recommend it. It has some incredibly beautiful waterfalls with swimming opportunities along the way!

Lindy Collamer

I came a little too early this year but there were still gorgeous views and plenty of color in the trees. I took the Dark Hollows loop to Rose River Falls, very beautiful!

Aimee Lim

Gorgeous place to visit in the fall. The beautiful sunset about the valley is exhilarating view. Would hike to explore this area more and camp out here.

Allison Chavis

One of my favorite places to get away. Breathtaking views and lots of wild untouched habitat. Get away from it all and breath in some mountain air!

Paul Sullivan

Wonderful views and abundant wildlife! My only complaint: trail maps show distance, but not change in elevation, which give a better indication of how strenuous a given hike will be.

Dirk Van Hoesen

Beautiful relaxing drive. We had fog on early leg of drive but cleared off as day progressed. Had good lunch at Skyland. Takes some time to drive but much more enjoyable than interstate.

Susan Cross

Came for a much needed getaway... absolutely beautiful

Guilherme Duarte Garcia

Fantastic park with amazing hikes and views! Our favorite hike was Blackrock Summit.

Carin Whelehan

Absolutely stunning National Park. The mountain and valley views, from both sides of the range are breathtaking and on a clear day are seemingly endless. Lots of scenic overlooks.

Virginia Wind

Nice hike to get to this spot. Hug back over look that is. We'll worth the trip.

Anthony Turpin

Loved it, had a blast hiking and camping. Saw a black bear the first 30 minutes of being there. Will totally come back when I have more time

Bill Butcher

Great hiking. White Oaks Canyon Trail, AT, Sneads Farm Trail, Old Rag. Good camping at Matthew's Arm.

Robert Ratterman

Views were beautiful, mountains breathtaking. We enjoyed the visitors center and maps were helpful.

J Golob

We stopped at a number of the overlooks along Skyline Drive. So beautiful and peaceful. There are 2 visitors centers one near Front Royal and the one we went to about 45 miles down the road, The Byrd Visitor Center which had some very interesting exhibits.

Florida Sailor

Words can't describe the beauty found along the skyline drive throughout this park. Without a doubt, the very best part of our trip along the Appalachian mountains. It does cost thirty dollars for the one hundred mile ride, free if you have a national park pass, but believe me, it's well worth it. As always, the rangers and staff in every national park we've visited were informative, friendly and appear to love their job. You won't be disappointed.

Suzanne West

Love Shenandoah national park! Hiking camping won't disappoint!

Tuzzie

Fantastic park. Be aware that you do have to pay to get in, but it is worth it. Remember that the money you pay goes back into keeping the park amazing.

Tim Steele

More rugged than a typical eastern national park. Beautiful park. The peaks are better than the waterfalls at least in the summer. Would like to visit in the spring or fall sometime.

Karl Shelton

SNP actually stands for (Expletive) National Park. Thumb your way around it. Rules are extensive, complicated, and contradictory... almost like the rules are designed to generate revenue. The lady ridge runner wasn't as bad as everybody said she was, but old girl at the entrance station had a real attitude problem.

Samuel L

Probably the best National Park in the US. I have been to many in the west coast but this one is unbeatable. It’s good for cruising on skyline drive, hiking, camping or just going there and enjoying the views. Amazing in every way possible.

Mark Hess

National parks are a national treasure and Shenandoah National Park is no different. There are many trails to explore and most have great views of the mountains and valleys in Virginia. We hiked to the highest peak in the park and the views were stunning. We visited at the end of September when the crowds were low but the weather was very comfortable.

Aishwarya K

Best place to visit if you are a nature lover. Excellent views. Skyline drive was very beautiful. Loved sunset here

Maria Mantilla

I would return to this park any day of the year. It was beautiful and definitely worth it. I will be returning. It can be a little tiring for children so I wouldn't stay there for too long with kids. They have visitor centers up the mountain so you can restock on food and supplies.

Melantha

Fun camping with the family, great small hikes, one includes a little waterfall. It was pretty crowded when we were there but camp is arrange fairly well so it wasn't as big an issue as it could have been. Beautiful area.

Kathy Cramer

I almost hate to tell folks how relaxing this place can be for those who seek solitude. On my last trip I saw squirrel, deer, rabbit, hawk and bear. Oh and many butterflies!

Remo Molino

The best national park in the mid Atlantic region. Car pass is reasonable and good all week. Rangers are helpful and very informative. Park is clean and well maintained. Views are amazing. Hiking trails are excellent. Cell phone coverage is spotty at best. Roads may be closed in winter. Rest areas and food stops are all clean. Food is very reasonably priced. Park is rich with bears and other wildlife. Follow safe nature practices. Pets are allowed on most trails with a leash. Maps and information are available online and at the ranger station where you pay to enter the national park. Just ask for it.

Karl Chaves

Great national park. Lots of wildlife seen. Very beautiful and scenic. Lots of look out points and lots of trials. Awesome drive.

Brandi Davis

Beautiful park. Fun to just drive with lots of scenic overlooks. Lots of hiking trails. Great fun for all.

Mobin Faizi

I liked the National Park, the view is spectacular and the Picnic Grounds are convenient. Public Rest Rooms in Picnic Grounds are scary though (very deep)

Maryann Cochran

Beautiful. Skyline Dr is amazing. Scenic overload Skyline Lodge has very good food

Razaq Rahimi

We had amazing day. Drove to the visitor center the staff was very helpful and park ranger help us a lot too. Nice view, great place for photography, and camping.

Kevin LaShure

We went a bit earlier on a Saturday and there was less foot traffic than expected. The old rag hike was nothing to laugh at; very tough but completely worth it. Park was well kept up and rangers were kinder than ever. If you're looking for a great place to visit, this is it. Highly recommend the old rag trail if you're up for a challenge.

susan raizor

Fantastic fall colors. If you haven't been to the mountains and fall you should go

T. Beaulieu

Very nice ride, while walking in hiking trail the wild life was hiding and we admired from a distance. Great way for people to get away from the cities. A must do for all.

Rose Corey

Wonderful place to reconnect with nature. Park service employees and volunteers are helpful courteous and informed. Campground perfect. Thankful these areas have been set aside for us. Rose

Cindy Spain

Awesome place for both hiking and climbing. We hiked Little Stony Man and adjacent AT section. Very rocky for roughly a mile of the hike, so hiking boots are essential - you'll need the ankle support, but the views are spectacular.

Jennifer Hagen

Loved driving through this park. Took about 5 hours to drive through and we stopped at many of the 70 overlooks. Did a little hiking but every trail we tried to stop at was so crowded that we didn't want to try. Scenery of the mountains was gorgeous! Keep in mind Skyland Drive is the only road through the park.

jim catalfamo

They really should make people take an IQ test before they're allowed to make reviews. I love to read the one star reviews before making mine. Not that I'm something special but before I visit some place I do my homework. People gave one star because of cost, nothing to do, not much to see were some of the most popular reason of giving this National Park a low rating. This mountain range was only created 1 to 1.2 billion years ago. that's remarkable in itself. And if you can't find something to do in 311 square miles you have small insight. The Skyline Drive & Blue Ridge Parkway Scenic Drives, Hiking Trails to Cliffs, Canyons, Waterfalls, Summits, Fire Towers and Overlooks. The Roadside Overlooked, Picnic grounds, Visiting Centers & Over 300 Registered Historical Places, Structures & Landmarks. And not to mention just the natural beauty of the drive. So this is just some of what your $30 is going to and if you can't find anything interesting maybe you should stay home in front of the TV. I spent 2 months from the beginning of the Skyline Drive to the end of the Blue Ridge Parkway. I wasn't bored for one moment but sad I couldn't stay longer. I could have spent two months in the Shenandoah Park alone and not see half of what the park has to offer. It was a beautiful experience don't miss out..

Ron Miller

So beautiful! Miles.and miles of stunning mountains, valleys, flowers, and wildlife. Well worth the visit!

Angela LaTourette Dunn

What geologically diverse terrain! This is my new favorite place to hike! I live locally and always meet fascinating people there...so far.

Jaewon Lee

Although it's a $30 for an entrance, I'd love how well they managed it and the nature it contains in this mountain. Next time I'm gonna get an annual pass and come more often

Robert Veverka

Love returning to SNP for the beautiful scenery, solitude and serenity. Big Meadows camping area is our favorite. The lodge has great food and a view of the Shenandoah valley below. Many nice trails for backpacking to waterfalls or mountain views in the wilderness areas.

Areerat T

The skyline drive was absolutely stunning! The south part is less crowded than the north. So I would recommend looking more at the South than the north.

J Toth

Love traveling the skyline camping out in the woods nice cool weather. Meeting interesting people from all over the world. Pack up the tent the grill cold beverages and come on out and enjoy the fun and relaxation.

Matthew McGrew

My group set up camp to close to a camp site so we had to tear down camp and move a quarter mile at 10:30. I wasn’t happy with that ranger but other than that it’s a great park.

Dave Caplinger

Beautiful views along a very pleasant drive. Hiking trails are generally downhill and then back uphill due to the geography of the park, with the drive always being near the ridge top and trails running down the slope. Wildlife abounds.

Sharon Rumley

Another National Park green gem. Beautiful drive plenty of overlooks, hiking, etc. To stop at. Nice museum/exhibit at the ranger station.

William Flynn

Visit this place at least once in your lifetime. It is an amazing experience. At some points, you feel like you're on top of the world. Magical.

Jonathan Elwell

What a wonderful park! You can see great views along skyline, or hike up to a summit for a rewarding experience. Park rangers are also very friendly and helpful

Jenna Noelle

I always have an amazing time at Shenandoah. I have tried 6 different hikes now and all are gorgeous and well maintained. I also love that every time I have gone, I have seen black bears, deer, and hawks. Definitely plan you hiking trip by looking up the trails guides on the website which shows you the length, difficulty, and tells you about the different features, and print out the trail guide maps to take with you. These are not provided in the park, and you might not get phone service once there.

Tysha Singleton

My first tine here with my friend and I actually saw a baby bear, it was exciting and scary all at the same time. I was even avle to get a pass because I have a disability. The views are amazing, great place to take the family.

Vickie Steele

Always beautiful here. Lots of dog friendly hikes. Trails are marked fairly well. Beautiful drive too if you don't want to hike. Skyline drive is in the national park. Buy an annual pass and get out there and to other national parks.

Nicolaus Craig

This is one of the best National Parks east of the Mississippi. The Park has Skyline drive which extends southwesterly all the way to the Great Smokey Mountains as the Blue Ridge Parkway, both of which are also National Parks. The Park has great hikes like Old Rag and the Waterfall trail. Plus the Park has wilderness and camping opportunities.

Gowri Nataraj

We drove along the skyline drive stopping at several lookout points. Such beautiful sceneries and views. Will definitely be visiting again.

Mike Peggs

I have hiked and camped up their. It's an absolutely beautiful place to visit. And cant wait to go back.

mrgresick

My son and I had a wonderful visit with hiking, camping, and sightseeing. The only issue we had was with the notification of water being shut off at certain picnic areas and camp sites could have been physically posted. Other than that magical!

Daniel P

Shenandoah national park shows the subdued yet majestic beauty of the blue ridge mountains like nowhere else. Great hiking, stunning views, tidy campsites, and abundant wildlife are all accessible to anyone. Perfect for a week away or just an afternoon hike, the SNP is a nature lover's dream. I can't recommend this national treasure enough.

Ralph Mennie

The beauty of nature and the magnificent vistas make it a top of the bucket list place to Visit. The Skyline Drive is to be relished and truly enjoyed

Steven Kuchinski

My girlfriend and I did the Old Rag Hike, while the scrambling was fun, I don't recommend doing this hike on a weekend due to the amount of people on the trail. There was a line at the start of the scrambling section creating a thirty minute backup. It's not a very strenuous hike either, we ended up running part of the fire road just to get it over with.

Santhosh

Really great National Park and good list of hiking, falls, and rivers. Good scenic Skyline drive.. added a photo with detailed trail and falls hiking information like distance, difficulty and overall time to take.. Take a look..

Kelly Doyle

Loved our hike here to see the waterfalls. It was a beautiful park and well worth the stop!

Ashley Holt

We didn't get to home but drove the Skyline Drive on our motorcycles. It was not crowded when we went and we were able to pull off easily to almost all of the overlooks. Incredibly beautiful!!!

Carmen Margy Spruill

What is not to live about this beautiful park. Trails for any strength level. Views for all to enjoy.

Kevin Kearns

No matter what path you take in Shenandoah, was there be a cruise down skyline drive, or hike along one of the trails, or even one of the guided ranger experiences, you will not be disappointed in anything you experience in Shenandoah. Every inch of this park has something new to offer and something exciting to see.

Robert Allen

Next to the Blue Ridge Parkway, it is one of my favorite places to escape reality from especially during the week with limit traffic and smaller crowds.

Justin N

Everybody should go hiking in the Shenandoah National Park. There are hikes and trails for people of all hiking abilities and if nothing else the drive is beautiful. Don't speed Ranger Rick will get you. I recommend using Old Rag as a means of testing friendships, bring plenty of water.

Very pretty, slow drive along mountain tops with vistas (weather permitting), picnicking, historic sights, some food places and visitor centers and camping. There are many hiking trails. There are entrances and exits so you don't have to do all 300 miles but you can't really zip up and out again.

Love going here. Ken at the front is super friendly. My boyfriend and I decided to get an Annual pass that's $80 which if you decide to go to multiple parks within the next year it's worth the price. There is a Shenandoah pass as well that's $55.

The Appalachians do it again. Prepare to be blown away by some of the oldest mountains in the world. You may question all that is known, and you may have tears of joy due to the immense beauty that awaits you here in this sacred land.

TAKE YOUR TIME. While you can pass through the park in a couple of hour, plan for a day or two to really get the feel of things. Pull off the road. Let other cars pass, walk a trail. Fill up your car with fuel and provisions before you enter the park. I did this park as the last leg of a north bound blue ridge parkway trip. 574 miles of scenic byways can get very repetitive and maybe a little boring. 3 days of constant curves has me looking forward to a highway. I am from Florida, and passing through the mountains was very enjoyable. Make this trip more then once in your lifetime. Also make a trip in the fall when the colors are changing. This place is very different each season. The facilities variety from modern to rustic. If you want modern stop in a visitors center.

Instead of going down the interstate I got off and detoured through the park. Worth the extra time. Very nice and relaxing mountain drive with amazing views.

Beautiful scenery, quiet when we went, late August. Saw a bear but the children were more interested in the millipede that was on the trail. Great hiking for youngsters and us old people alike.

John Snyder

Beautiful park with a variety of hiking trails. They also have a really nice taproom for when you're ready to relax.

Great place to go camping. Waa able to watch the rangers scare away a bear. That's good camping

Helpful, kind people. Best of the best.

Always amazing! Go to the south end of the park where it's less crowded.
