REVIEWS OF Sandy Point State Park IN Maryland

David McDonough

The beach was a nice view and the kids were able to play. Was a colder day and the water was as well. Still nice beach and lots of room. The playground was the big attraction for my children. Nice sets and the ground was matted instead of mulch which was a nice feature. The sets are good for all kids if all ages as well.

Resa Tobin

Bigger than we expected. $10 admission for 2 Sold ice cream and cotton candy by 4 wheeler drive by. Nice break from busy towns Great picnic lunch spot There were lots of family gatherings. Far end has fishing. Middle has area for sand volleyball

Jennifer H

I really enjoy this local beach. It is a simple, no frills beach. Tip: Bring your own umbrella in the summer. It can get hot! Also, getting there early will get you a better spot. People crowd very close to the water, so the later you come, the farther back you will be.

Isaias Nolasco

Nice beach, no big waves. The only thing is that white shirts turn brown. Other than that the place is safe, beautiful and excellent to spend time eating steak with family and friends.

King Lopez

For the beach goer or just to BBQ with the family, this is the spot. Enjoy a day under the sun or just come and play some beach volleyball, either way, your going to have a great time.

Sam

We went there for a quiet time with friends. A lot of trees to sit under, grass and trails to walk around, play place for kids. No entrance fee. Enough parking. In all ways a good meeting plane top sit around. Didn't see any rest rooms. We didn't need and so didn't look for those

crystal W

Perfect place to go during the week. Peaceful, not a lot of people. Get in early for a prime spot if you're going for some sun.

Andrew Pierce

Wonderful place to take kids and have a grill-out picnic with great views of the bay while you cook/eat/drink. Plenty of tables and grills and convenient parking. Beach is nice too. One thing to watch out for--the particular sand at this beach is wicked sharp and will wear down the soles of your bare feet quickly. Wear shoes.

Miss Williams

Nice place to visit close to home. I wish the sand was real. Plenty of parking. Clean park and a great family friendly place to visit

Dail Simmons

It's a nice place. You can fish and/or swim. The cost for non residents is 5$ per person inside your vehicle not in a carseat or booster seat (those passengers are free). The only thing I did not like is the sand. It's orange and it stained everything we had that was white or very light. It was also heavy and hard to get out of hair (honestly I compared it to Ocean City's beautiful sand, unfair I know). It looked like my children and I had been tanned, but once we showered it was all sand stain

mk17norge

Not so hidden gem on the shores of the Chesapeake and has unique beaches, a lifeguard, lots of picnic areas and oodles of parking. Very crowded when we went but was well worth the $5/ per person entrance fee. Downside is no pets during peak season.

Keith Wills

Was there for the Maryland seafood festival, but the park was nice. Great view of the Chesapeake Bay Bridge, and was perfect for flying a drone. Got really nice footage! Will return and drive through the park more...

Fanny Salgado

Love the beach, they have done a marvelous job renovating the picnic areas, parking is about a 2-3 minutes walk from the water. The staff is very courteous and friendly. They are very clean however, the bathrooms do need a little work on. The bathrooms are very dirty all the time. Afar from that everything else is wonderful. Go for yourself, and you will see what I'm talking about.

Marcia Mayfield

Spent an afternoon in the shaded picnic area, a gathering of senior citizens, friends and strangers. Very relaxing, lots of fun. So nice to go to the beach even if you don't go to the beach.

L K

Sandy Point is usually a very nice beach to visit, especially if you want to get outside and enjoy the beach and not necessarily the "touristy" shops or restaurants, etc. It's a good place for the family or for different sizes of groups as well. There are plenty of places to eat and shop outside of the beach/park within fairly short distance so that doesn't take away from the appeal. However, you can BBQ on site! Also available in different areas are volleyball nets, children's play structures, covered pavilions, walking trails, and more. The beach has fantastic sandy room for blankets and beach towels, umbrellas and coolers, hanging out in a beach chair and enjoying the water and swimming.

Bertha Hernandez

I've been visiting Sandy Point state park for many years. Usually when summer rolls around, it's crowded. I recommend to arrive early for parking. Has restrooms, grills and benches for the family to use. It also has 24 hr fishing and boat launch for most of the year. Pets are allowed during select months. It's a good park to enjoy with the family.

Ingris

Great place to fish, walk, and swim. Great for kids. Just make sure kids have carseat or booster seat, so that they can get in for free. I recommend bring your own food because their food shack is price.

Darryl Noronha

This was the first beach I have ever had a swim on. It was a great experience to chill in this water. Very much a family place to chill and have fun. However the restrooms were badly maintained. Don't mind coming to this beach again

Reuven S

Cool place. Very relaxing. Tons of parking available. Unfortunately the bathrooms were closed. Fishing is allowed in a designated area (which is beneficial for everyone). It only costs 3 bucks and they accept credit cards. No alcohol is allowed.

Brian Karnatz

Every cool place. Beach was fun but buildings were dirty and the smell from the dumpsters was overwhelming.

Yan Liu

Maryland seafood festival was good. Music is not too loud so that people can't hear each other's conversation, weather is great, not too crowded, staff are friendly. But there were too many vendors of fried food. Need some seating scattered around closer to food vendors so food eaters do not have to travel too far to find a picnic table to sit down.

Gamal Haylett

Had a really great time. Wanted to take an impromptu trip to the beach but didn't want the 2 hr drive that ocean city would be. Typically the wait to get in the park is backed up. Last Saturday there was barely a wait. We were able to find a parking spot and get a nice spot on the beach. The only reason I didn't give 5 stars the cooking staff for the food area was extremely slow. Waiting on chicken fingers, french fries, funnel cake took nearly 30 min n it was in sections. That area needs to be tightened up. The register assistant was pretty nice and asked us to be patient which was good but the cooking process was way too long. Shouldn't have to wait 30 min for chicken fingers french fries and funnel cake.

Victoria Gill

Get and early start especially during the weekend..overall a very nice getaway with family.

Olivia Lowe

Beautiful and Clean. Lots of space. Nice food, drinks, and snack options available. Has lifeguards so safe as well!

Sol Tan

lovely park and the beach is gorgeous...I went there on labor day and it was packed with beachgoers and families having picnics.

Greg Burkes

Tried to rent boat. Was detoured to other side of park. Was told to walk to marina. However people with boat were escorted to marina. Had to much fishing equipment to carry. Was refused refund. Was told that they had poor communication with county and park officials. How was that my fault. Hmmm?

Terri Jones

I loved the water. I like that they had sufficient amount of grills and ample parking. The water was warm but the dirt sand was blazing hot!

Levi WhiteEagle

Sandy Point State Park is always a excellent place to meet up with relatives due to an awesome Beach..

Candice Williams

Always a pleasant visit. Their has been a lot of glass in the sand so be mindful of that for yourself and kids.

Heather Whitty

We are not locals and therefore not privy to local, historical knowledge about the area. We wanted to go to a beach to take our kids to that was less than 1 hour from Baltimore, and this fit the bill. We have heard from others "it's not the cleanest" but I'm not sure if they were referring to the beach itself, the water or both. We had no issues with the cleanliness on either front. Personally I don't love the gigantic bridge in the background and the snack bar took a fair bit of time, but my kids had a great time swimming and playing in the sand.

Wendy Carnes

I love going here with my family. We enjoy our time here beautiful scenery

Michael Buckner, MSN, RN-BC

Nice drive from Silver Spring to Annapolis. Reasonable park entry cost. Very clean and for the most part updated facilities. The beach is not the pure white sand beach one would expect... a little on the rocky side but not bad if you have a good beach blanket. Tons of families here.

Terrence Burke

A decent enough public beach. The men's room could use some cleaning. I'm surprised that there were not many trash cans near the beach.

Jp Alley

great place to take the family for a quick get away. no it's not the ocean.. but it's a great substitute for the landlocked folks who dont have the time to go all the way to the Atlantic. kids in a carseat are free.. what... a place that doesn't try to nickle and dime every cent they can our of you.. amazing!! lifeguards are there and are actually doing their jobs not just staring off into space. food wasnt over priced either.

None Sone

A nice place to fish, swim and spend quality time with family; specially kids. Every bench or spot has its own charcoal grill wich is pretty nice and convinient for the entry price.

Larry Penny

Very easy to get to the boat ramp amply parking very nice.

Jennifer Battleman

I really enjoy this park. It's a quick drive from DC and has a nice beach with many amenities. The brackish waters of the Chesapeake tend to be warm in the summer with very mild waves, making it possible to actually swim instead of fighting waves, and it's possible to relax on a raft and just enjoy the day (rafts are available to rent, along with umbrellas, beach toys for kids etc.). The scenery is lovely, with the Bay Bridge in one direction, and a lighthouse in the other. There are plenty of picnic tables and grills in the shade, if that's your thing. My primary complaint about this beach is the terrible sand. It's rocky, full of sharp shell fragments, holds a ridiculous amount of heat, and is uncomfortably coarse. It shreds and burns the soles of your feet if you have to walk on it for more than a few minutes, and once in the water, it makes walking difficult because you sink in the sand until you achieve buoyancy. Parents who don't adequately supervise their children is another complaint, but you can't blame that on the park. Definitely a great place to retreat to when you need some beach time, but aren't feeling up to a 5-6 hour round trip drive to the ocean beaches.

Roger Gower

It was a nice day despite the heat. The water was a comfortable temperature with cool undercurrents. The people were friendly. The staff was very nice as well. For a 5 dollar per person entry fee, it is well worth the visit.

Victor Almeida

The sand is quite coarse and if you have sensitive feet like my mother it hurts to walk on. Bring candles if possible. This is a good beach to go to if it's close but I'd personally prefer to go over the beach where the sand is nicer. You do get an amazing view of the bridge and the park itself is spacious and beautiful. I just wish that sand was not as harsh.

Charles Thomas

Sandy Point should be given 5 stars, but, the Seafood festival organizers need to screen food vendors more. You cannot expect people to be satisfied with precooked seafood! Taste and feels horrible. Vendors should give customers a number after ordering food, prepare food when paid for and call customers number when ready. Will change ratings once I get a response from park officials.

Andrea Jordan

This was my 1st time at this park. Very nice, peaceful and relaxing place to take your family. My children loved it...I appreciate people who love doing their jobs. The man that greeted us was very joyful, while being professional, welcoming us. I gave it only four stars because at some point the sand gets really hot depending on weather. But other then that. Excellent place to go by yourself or with love ones.

Cindy Faya

A beautiful place to bring the family to enjoy the Chesapeake Bay. You can fish, have picnics, swim and it is not expensive parking

Michele Ruth

We had a great time. Park is clean. Some construction going on to maneuver around. There was only 1 lifeguard working.

Reka Davis

I enjoyed my day off relaxation at this beach. I came once before this year but the water was still cold. It was perfect today

shaista salik

It was great pleasure to visit the site, it would be more wonderful if it's provide clean restrooms for public!

WONDER LUIS HERRERA-BONILLA

I love this park. You can metal detect the beaches all day during off season. 6am to 9am in season. Grills, pavilions, boat ramps, fishing allowed, basketball courts, picnic tables, party areas, pet friendly (check with them for rules). Veterans get in for free with ID while there is an attendant. I believe Veterans can also pick up a pass from the office Mon-Fri to ba able to get in even when there isn't an attendant available. $3 to get in off season.

D Lewis

The Beach itself was great! However, it filled to capacity fast. We were there for a party & the majority of our guests was turned away. They said when the beach reach 10k people they shut it down for safety reasons. I completely understand. So...news flash!!!! If you're having a party there or gathering with friends MAKE SURE you all arrive at the same time. You are allowed to take your own grill & no pets during summer months. It was $5 per person on the weekends and free for all children in booster & car seats. $4 during the week days. Hope you enjoy your time at the beach...I did!

Shawn Alestock

Ew. Unfortunately. There so much shoreline space that is not used. I am not sure if it's the lack of additional lifeguards to monitor the swim area, but it's so congested that it comes off as dirty. People just walking over the trash. There aren't many trash cans closer to the beach so this may be the culprit. Lots if police and park rangers around so it's cool from a security standpoint. Perhaps they should walk around and pick up some of the litterbugs' trash. The water isn't pristine which is OK. It's all of the other factors that make it appear dirtier. $10 per person- I'm all set with this place forever.

Vickie Quimby

Nice and clean. First time there in Summer. Has great Christmas light display in Winter.

Pebbles Whiddon

Great place to take the kids. Has picnic tables, and a park.

Debbie Nicosia

We just wanted to check it out not camp out for the day. It's $4 per person, the orange 'sand' stains your feet and work was being done on the bathroom sewage systems. It wasn't what I expected.

Eva Gillespie

Very nice beach - lots of barbecuing boating, sun bathing and wading. Water's brackish so not so hard on skin and sand is soft. The sand gets ridiculously hot so wear shoes/sandals all the way and there are some biting flies but swat at them and they'll leave you alone for a while:) water is calm enough to do some floating

Randy Hooker

Sandy Point State Park is just on the west side of the Chesapeake Bay Bridge. It has an area with a beach, and people swim there. The beach is visible from MD Rt. 301 (the hwy that crosses the bridge). There's a stone jetti where anglers try to catch their quarry, and the park presents a very nice drive-through Christmas display during the holidays.

Andrew Fernandes

The park has a great view of the bay with a nice small beach that's clean. I highly recommend attending the annual seafood festival hosted here.

Tyrone Good

Extremely pretty. They stuck. Don't believe me. Go after 10 am

Dr Dennis

Lots of events going on all the time. Check their calendar. Places to picnic, fish, a boat ramp, and more. Good place to take the family for day trip

1PDiva

The smell of grilled food before 8:00AM in the morning. The park was clean and people were friendly. I loved hearing the crash of the waves as they made their own melody.

James Tomlin

Amazing views! Can be too crowded at times! But great family fun!

Meseret Mekuriawu

It was amazing and wonderful experience. I'm technically that person that dont go to beaches most of the time, but this beach is closer to where I live like 41 min away. But my one concern is that water. I brought my children along and one of there underarms started to burn. We looked up the results that it was chlorine in the water that caused it. But otherwise it's good and has a nice view.

Vigi Rodriguez

Great location. Had a great time. Only reason I did not give a 5 because bathrooms and shower house were disgusting. Smelled like pee and diapers and sanitary pads left behind.

SGP Versluis

Beautifull scenery over the Chesapeake bay area. Nice to walk around and enjoy the views out there

Coleen Armstrong

Awesome beach area with everything you could want! Concessions, showers, bathrooms, family friendly, bbq areas and playgrounds. Will definitely be back!

Evelyn Byrne

Nice little drive when you want a beach and not a 3 hour drive. Not much shopping. Small shop/ bait store. You can rent a boat and motor around, fish or do some crabbing and of course enjoy the beach.

Theo de Jager

My favorite beach on the Bay. Enough beach to rarely feel crowded. Mild gradient, so safe for the kids to swim. Beautiful view of the Bay Bridge.

Carlos Alicea

Heres an idea, double the entry price but keep the season pass the same(locals and regulars will still make out fine but tourist will pay that increases one time price), use that extra money to hire some more employees to walk this beach and take control of the a-holes who keep trashing the place!!! Its beautiful and the water is great but the amount of trash being tossed around is extremely upsetting. Put more signage and trashcans out deter people from destroying this beach. Something needs to be done.

Rebecca Benedetto

Ok so here's the real deal from someone who's been here many times and whether or not you choose to go too, should be dependent on this very real review. PROS: the water with the Bay Bridge in the distance is beautiful and picturesque. They keep the park mostly neat and tidy (a huge difference from what it used to be years ago). There are Maryland State Police and Park personnel constantly on patrol, all but eliminating criminal activity of any kind. They have picnic benches, grills for use, restrooms (not clean) a concession stand and a little store with swimming gear for sale. There are lots of people swimming, grilling, laughing, and having a wonderful time. It's a beautiful thing.... The CONS: If you live in Maryland, the price isn't too bad. If you don't, its $5 per person. Yes, not per car, per person. BTW, if you go on a nice weekend, be prepared to sit in a long line waiting to get in unless you get there no later than 10:30 - 11:00. The beach has a beach area that is fenced off for the swimmers (this began a few years ago) resulting less room for people to spread out and feeling like a chicken crammed in a coop with other, nastier chickens, which is the perfect segway for my last con...be prepared to be amongst all walks of life while here. Do with that statement as you will. If you're willing to walk a little, there are areas of Sandy Point you can walk to, not accessible by car to the masses, for better views and more seclusion. Here's the scoop: the main area everyone goes and the area described above, is known as South Beach. You can park there and walk to East beach and find a spot to sit on the beach there, though the beach is smaller, there are far fewer people. For informational purposes, the West Beach is designated for boat launching. In my opinion, it's worth a try. You may love it, you may think it's not terrible, but you likely won't hate it and at least you'll have spent the day outdoors. How can you really lose.

Genevieve Young-Ayuk

Nice for picnic and swimming. They got a lot of space for that. There is also a playing ground for children and it's really nice. My family and I enjoyed the park and had a lot of fun there. However, the bathrooms need some renovations.

Riduanul kabir

it’s a very beautiful place. We went there with family.and spent whole day long.Weather also was so nice.We did BBQ party there.Entry fee was $5 per person.

Cory Daley

Awesome little chill spot for the family, not too crowded and only cost $5 per adult, kids in car seats or booster seats are free!

Shirley McCue

Beautiful view of the Bay Bridge, very relaxing. The facilities are not the best, need to be updated and cleaned.

Vanessa Doan

Main beach is ok with water for rinsing and bathrooms. There are food trucks, water ice, and beach rentals, and multiple shaded playgrounds. entrance fee is $5/person. Kids in car seats or booster seats are free. Do not go straight toward main beach after entrance which can be very crowded, and rocky sand. Turn on east side and go toward small beach in the park. This place is awesome and clean. Good place for fishing, short trails, and picnic area.

Brian Harkless

It's a good beach. Not overfull despite the labor day weekend. $5 per person to enter the park. Beautiful view of the Bay Bridge and passing ships.

Butterfly_kiss

Great time!! Nice and relax clean. Let's keep it that way. Pick up your trash before you live to help everyone enjoy!

David Sheir

It’s a nice place to go to the beach if you don’t feel like crossing the bridge to go to the eastern shore!

HeadCoach Morris

The park was nice... beach was disgusting. We literally found a sanitary pad in the water. The sand stained my toes for 3 days. Also it was VERY VERY crowded.

Spencer Ford

Had a great outing with my girlfriend tons of people but everyone was just out having a good time which was nice to see.

Maria Roshon

I spent the weekend in the park and had a great time! The beaches are nice and the facilities are very clean. They also have a nice sized marina and small marina store with basic necessities.

PATRICIA KENNEALLY

I went in the visitors center and spoke to the nicest young man who showed me a calendar of all the children's activities for the month and helped me get flyers and booklets. He made me feel absolutely welcome to bring my grandchildren to the many events they have planned over the summer. He was so welcoming and polite, I feel sure this is the kind of place I want the kids to attend. We will enjoy all the fun stuff they offer. Thank you Julian.

Jasmine Smith

I love this place. Very peaceful beautiful and serene

Rebecca Crowe

Nice beach and views! Excellent facilities! Clean and well kept grounds! I could go every day and twice on Sunday!

Brenda Balcarcel

5 dollars per person to get in. Decent place for a short beach trip.

Che de Bruin

Awesome beach considering it isn't the ocean. I would definitely come back again with the family. The sand is quite as fine, but overall very peaceful.

U Knowbetta

Pavillion Area Nice!!!...bathrooms? Not so much. They need beach combers to come clean up a bit but not bad for a state public park

Zebulon Clayton

Very clean, and had a great time. The water wasnt clear but that didnt stop our family reunion. Great time

Loretta Milner

Wish the sand was of better quality Had to pay full price even know we were there just before closing

Patrick S

Fun place to take the family on a sunny day. The water was still a little too cold to get in (although some brave kids were in there already), but the sand was nice and warm. A lot of smaller rocks by the water line, do walking around without sandals may not be the best experience. Plenty of tables and BBQ locations. But, if you want one, show up early.

Thomas J Horner lll

Very spacish verity of recurational site with in the park before reaching beach.

Aimee Benedetto

Awesome little beach to visit if you want to go for the day and dont want to drive all the way to Ocean City or Deleware beaches

Abid K

Entry fee is USD $5 per person but it’s worth it. Beautiful beach with red sand - a lot of shady trees to have a picnic with family. Weekends are very busy and weekdays are not so busy. Well kept areas with washroom facilities. Enjoy!

Rico Cruz

Best place been so far nice patrols watch everything

Hamster Gaming

The water was nice not to rough you could just relax or build a sand castle

Diane Halstead

Only $5/person to get in. The beach was clean, and there was plenty of room even though it was busy. Lot of picnic tables and grilling areas. They also have I'm fellas and chairs for rent. Would be a great place for the family!

Angiel Rota

Love the beach! Great for family with small kids. And a lot of parking space.

trektress Star Trek Diva

Beautiful view. Bathrooms need to be redone. They're very rundown by the sailboat launch area. Go before you go would be advised.

Ariene Ohimor

Was expecting something different. Nice area for a picnic. We were interested in swimming until we got there but it didn't seem like the type of place where you lay out and relax. I wouldn't pay to come here.

Melodye Lauger

Nice quiet place to picnic and enjoy some beach time. Bring sandles as the sand has small rocks in it and I found it very difficult to walk on it in my bare feet. Last weekend in Sept. was not crowded at all.

Larry Gallant

It was beautiful place to visit, it has modern restroom facilities. It has picnic and grilling areas.

Sanjay Poudel

The beach is not what u wud expect. But the park is nice with lots of parking space and shades. Great for outdoor family picnic.

Melanie and Johnny Life and gaming

Great place to go fishing and swimming. They have nice tables everywhere. Caught a lot of fish here. The rate of each person to get in is $5 each. Go visit, you won't regret it.

I'Kei Amuquandoh

Very nice park. The rangers were very nice and it wasn't all that crowded. The place was free of debri and the beach was very enjoyable. The lay out is pretty straightforward so it's hard to get lost.

Mobin Faizi

Great place, my kids really enjoyed the place. Swimming, grill and kids playing ground are awesome.

Norma Fauntleroy

I love the fact they have fans inside of the pavilion's. A lot of space. The workers are very helpful. You can grill there. Clean bathrooms.

Kristen Dawn

Very clean, 4$ charge per head, easy to get to different spots for either fishing or swimming, and a great view of barge ships and sailing boats.

Aj Aj

Really great place to catch fish. Swimming suitable if you don't mind, swimming with fish scales, pebbles, and rocks...

Tereance Davis

A very great place to visit in the scenery was beautiful and the people were wonderful

Ivonne Salaverry

Love this place, is 5 dollars per person at the entrance. However, is clean an well kept. They have camping ground, bbq places, a lake for the boats. Also, a beach and parking. Is a nice place to go in the summer with family and friends.

R De Campos

Very nice park! I'm glad we still have preserved places like this where people can enjoy being outside. Are many different activities one can do, bbq, beach, fish, boat ... Do check their pet policy which I took a star away for. Place needs to have the better policy for dogs.

Rachel Wilson

Water dirty as all hell. Not with garbage. I guess with what naturally gets in the water. (Sticks, seaweed etc.) Yet and still it felt gross being in it.

Ruben Brown

Nice alternative to go if you dont want to drive to ocean city. There's also plenty of grills in their picnic areas.

Danielle McHeard

Such a great throwback to my childhood memories. Fun park however the sand flies were horrible. We didn't stay on the beach for long, the flies made sure of it. Ouch!

Dana Mrozinski

Its not OC. But it's a nice place for swimming and family picnics

Shawn Mack

Had no idea there was a beach ( bay side) so close to home. Great place to take the family. You can swim, fish, grill, and play basketball. We will be back.

M Z

The beach has rocky sand, which stains white clothes, but it's not too bad. The water depth is good, cleanliness of the water on the day I visited was decent. There is a pavillion which sells food, and a nice padded playground area for young children. The bathrooms and in terrible condition and appeared to not have been cleaned in some time. Very unclean. One foot washing station worked for about a thousand people. Lots of parking, and boat launch parking. The price was ok, but I expect clean bathrooms for the price. The lifeguards are attentive.

Farooq M

We like the park and visit every year. Good thing is they've been improving it. Keep it up.

bmreyes504

Great view of the bay and the Bay Bridge. Nice playground for the kids and calm beach area

Shila Shay

It's a huge beautiful beach with yellow-golden sand. There is lots of room for kids to swim and play.. the waves are great.. be careful though because the current can be strong as you get in deeper water

Matt Magayna

Best little far away but close place to go in the area. It's close, but it makes you feel like you're far away

David Miller

Stopped by after the boat show to get a piece of the beach and it was just what we needed. Marina shop nice and helpful.

Audria Crowder

Nice place to sit by the water and watch Bay Bridge traffic. Red sandy beach, great parking.

Victor Rodgers

nice park. clean facilities. great time at the sea food festival.

Chris B

Great spot, easy access, super clean, family friendly, and lots of space. I went there to do some open water swimming and I highly recommend. Your somewhere limited to the length of the swim area which is around 5-600 yards. If I had someone there with a kayak, I would have ventured out further with no risk considering they have signs indicating no motorized boats within a half mile of the swim area.

Jeremy Alex

It was an Amazing trip with family and Friends.. My son enjoyed the sand and the sea Water also

Jessica O'Gallcobhair

Walmart with a beach. Trash was everywhere and the other people there didn't care what they left behind. I was a great beach two years ago but now not so much.

leon c

Bunch of plastic and trash in the ocean. Put trash cans and recycling bins ON the beach PLEASE. It is very inconvenient for people to find places to put trash so the commoner will simply throw it in the ocean or on the sand. This is killing our environment! Although designated bins would still harbor trash, it would be the better route than to leaving trash in the ocean/bay. Thank you. (still a nice place to visit — nice staff and recreation)

Stefanie Holt

It was a fabulous time. A bit rocky of a beach but so nice! Don't wear your white bathing suit...it will get a tan hue in this water mostly just because of the sand.

Przemek Klosowski

If you need a quick beach trip from DC, you could do worse than that.

JonOk2XL Okutoro

Visited on Memorial day 2019. Stayed at one of the pavilions for free. Had to clean off an animal poop though. The staff were nice and helpful. The restrooms could be a little bit cleaner and smell better.

Lea Johnson

Nice spot but make sure to wear sandals or shoes. The sand is very rocky.

Sandy C

I read a million reviews before going & there were many reviews about the gravel sand. It wasn't as bad as I envisioned. The beach was awesome! Kids had a fantastic time swimming. Wonderful time! There are many bathrooms and washing areas! I would definitely come back! Not to mention all the BBQ picnic areas! The smell of food had me swooning!

Luke Williams

The beach is nice. Go early in the season to avoid jelly fish. The facilities are a little lacking - some bathrooms were out of order when I visited in July 2019 and those that were open were a little dirty. The staff are really nice and helpful. This place is a good substitute for the beaches on the Delmarva peninsula. Save the gas!

Liza George

I love it , actually it’s a great place for family to relax and go swimming, also the admission is not expensive.

Krystal Petitto

Pretty nice beach. It was cooler out so not too many people- I'd imagine this will be different once it heats up. The dogs loved it here. There were also small trails up through the woods towards the back- and ponds. Places to BBQ and grill etc.

Tonya Coffey

Went there for the Md seafood festival and and had a great time. The food was delicious and we did a wine tasting and heard some really good bands play, people were dancing and kids were running and playing the weather was perfect it was a really good time.

Lots of parking, a long beach, park for the kids and not expensive. You can also use their grills and it has some picnic benches in spots with shade. Staff were very friendly and it was not too crowded (we went on a Monday). However, in terms of the beach itself, it is a mix of sand and pebbles so beach/water shoes might be advisable. This is not a big deal, but the quality of the water was for us. It is brown, and a bit dirty. Two fish washed ashore dead the day we spent there, and we saw some other things floating around. The park was very clean in the morning, but it is a “leave with your own trash”, which simply resulted in the park being dirty by mid-afternoon as there are no garbage cans or containers and many people simply did not clean after themselves. It is a good place to have some fun in the sun near DC, but the quality of the water means we will not likely come back.

Always a nice time. The beach is old, and the facilities have taken a beating. Aside from that, there's a nice beach, places to grill, places to canoe or boat. Nice view of the Bay Bridge

I went on a nice day in April and it was absolutely lovely. I love the beach and being able to go to one close to home is amazing. The beach itself was very clean, as were the hiking paths. Seemed like there were plenty of pavilions and grills to use. Parking was $3 that day (off-season price?) but free for military and veterans, you just have to ask and provide an ID. Watch out for the grassy areas along the parking lot. It was obvious many dogs had been there, which is expected of a park that allows pets, so just watch your footing if you choose to walk in the grass. Great day trip and can’t wait to go back!

Love this place! Got the burn of my life but I don't regret being there. Lol. Very nice place to relax and just forget about the crazy life.

Nice park and convenient facilities to clean up after the beach. The brown water is kind of a turn off but still a nice enough beach to hang out at and be with friends and family.

We only visited the beach sooooo that is what I'm giving 5 stars. Beautiful beach of golden sand and a view of the Bay Bridge. It was a crowded Sunday afternoon on a hot day and yet there was plenty of parking and LOTS of beach area as well as grassy picnic areas and rest rooms. Great place to take the children on a hot Summer day. A nice extra was that we got in free because my husband is a Veteran . Thank You Sandy Point !

Sandy Point is always ok. Strange orange sand. Not really beach sand. Bathrooms need to be cleaned more frequently. They appear to we wasting our tax dollars putting in a giant mosaic star in concrete in the courtyard area. If the state has too much tax money they should give us refunds or lower our taxes. MAGA!!

Nice spot to go on the weekends. Good entrance price ($5 per adult). I wish there were more tables and grills though because it does get really packed!

I love the fact this beach feels like a big happy family in one. Water is beautiful and everyone is kind. You can grill your own food and play music without people bothering you .the kids loved it. Deff will be returning

A beautiful beach on the Chesapeake Bay. Grassy flat area most of the way to the water makes it easy for people with mobility problems to access the beach. It also means you can pull a wagon right down to your sunspot, rather than carrying your stuff. There are bathrooms, picnic tables, concessions, and BBQs for public use. Deer roam unafraid throughout the park. It's a clean, safe, and lovely place to spend the day.

We loved this place. Wish I had a kite and a board to take advantage of the wind and the water. Had fun taking photos.

Sylvetta

BEAUTIFUL and relaxing. Perfect place to wind down from the busyness of the day to day grind. Bring your own food though.

Why should there be $5 fees when there is nothing that impressive other than a good location? County park are far better than this. Rest rooms were horrible. Shed was okay. No play area for volleyball is set.

Antonio Sampson

Love this park! It's especially gorgeous on a sunny day. ❤

This is a beautiful park. It costs 3 or 4 dollars to get in, but worth it. Many many picnic tables, lots of room for kids to run around, plus the beach. So, bring the things you will need for the day, and enjoy!! On nice weekends, I would go early to get the picnic area you want.

AdornedDc

I love this place for quick beach day. 1hr drive. $10 for all day. Can bring your own food and grill. Beach is pretty clean. No ocean waves but fun in sun and water.

Michael Frey

Quiet beach. Nice spot to launch a SUP. Check for TICKS! My friend was lucky and found an extremely small one when we got back to our hotel. There are many deer.

Azarea

Nice beach! A bit crowded, but there's picnic areas, large grills, boat lifts and docks, just a fun place for family gatherings. Admission is $5 per person, kids free. But you can buy a pass for $10. good for free admission to all state parks. Going back for the wknd in 2 wks.

Nicholas Garrott

Best boat ramp in the state. 26 lanes, made of concrete with a long ramp at a good angle for most boats. You can launch anything trailerable here without issues.

Ogechi Cece Chukwu

I had so much fun with my friends. It’s very family friendly but you have to go early to get good spaces.

Abhi Juwa

Decent size beach. Both of my kids love spending time here. The umbrella rental costs $25 if you wish to get one from the concession stand. Entrance is 5 bucks per person. Plenty of picnic spots. During holidays such as memorial day, i would suggest on planning on getting there before noon. It gets packed fast.

This is a beautiful park but I feel like activities are a bit limited here if you come with just your spouse. It would be even greater if you brought a family here. Very friendly atmosphere here. Also, there is a hiking trail or two and lots of great picnic areas here too.

Andrew Wilds

Anything to get away from DC...but overall the park is pretty MEH...once you get a pick of the lighthouse, you are pretty much done. Parking is good, costs 5.00 per car to get in, and to get in it is “self serve”, look for the gate on left side to get in, shacks that look like the place you pay are unmanned and make it look like the park is closed even when open. If this is your only option to get out of DC, cool...I probably won’t be back.

Damion Powell

I've been here hundreds of times over the years and it's a decent place to have a good cookout or family gathering.

Went with my littlw girl on a weekday. Was amazing. Brought a radio to listen to baseball but didnt turn it on. Everyone there was quiet. I was amazed and respected the silence. I wish more places would just stay relaxed and low noise
