REVIEWS OF Rock Creek Park IN Maryland

A monument to Federal over-reach. There is absolutely no reason, but this part cannot be maintained and police and operated by the District of Columbia. We have home rule, so I am not sure why the federal government needs to interfere. This is a huge tract of land that should be property of the district

Natali Godoy

Beautiful and peaceful place for hiking and being surrounded by nature.

Andres Garcia

I love RC. It's so nice to have such a wonderful space full of nature so close DC. If you are skillful kayaker you can kayak the creek when there is enough water, be careful and stay safe. There are so many trails and hikes is awesome. The visitor center is definitely a must. U believe you can also rode horses, but you'll have to do more research about it. You could technically bike from the MoCo section all the way to DC.

Andrew Chen

Fantastic nature trail inside a city. I even got lost even though I was less than 1 mile from foggy bottom metro station.

Dr. Gregory F. Maassen

This is a great park also known as DC's Central Park. There are plenty of hiking trails near the stream. The park is a safe family destination.

Cara Evans

Love cycling through here on the weekends when Beach Drive is closed to cars.

Frank Tapia

Rachel McCoy

Great trails for walkers of all levels! Amazing to have such a large park with so much to do in the middle of the city.

Steve Galloway

Rock Creek Park is one of Washington DC's hot-spots that nobody outside DC knows about. Spanning approximately 6 miles from the suburbs directly into DC's centre, the park offers bicycle and foot paths and the wooded landscape is rich in vantage points overlooking Rock Creek as it makes its way towards the Potomac River. The park is accessible from east or west at several points and trails are generally wheelchair friendly.

Era Stupendo

The nearest get away for uptown local woodsmen adventurer scouts; plus be sure to bring gear. Just when you think you've seen it. . . .

San Juan Williams

Clean, peaceful and bike riding is a must.

Stephen JW Steele

Rock Creek Park is truely a beautiful wild space and a corridor of wildlife. It's also one of the places you may see some of DC's fittest people, training that alternative, fit, lifestyle...added to Capitol Cresent Trail and the Potomac River and Trails, this park makes up one of the legs of the fitness trifecta in DC's small but ultra fit scene.

Kellie Glaze

This place is huge and beautiful. Dense enough to feel secluded, developed enough to not get lost. Perfect balance

This place is beautiful and plenty of space to do whatever you want. Took my dog on a walk from 14th and U. The journey was well worth it. Dog friendly that also includes trails. On a beautiful day, check it out but make sure you clean up your trash!

Capt. Dave

Nice hiking and riding trails. Also has a riding school and stable

Fikadu K Angasu

If you want to have a silent quality time to talk to just yourself or the nature, or to make some excercise; vist the Rock Creek Park. You feel like you are in a remote country side while seated at the heart of the Nations Capital.

Perfect rest in the middle of the city.

Great paths, especially in the heat of the summer.

Elena Lozina

This is one of my favorite parks in DC, lots of trails to run on, and connects a big portion of the city.

Jamal Jabati

Great park with lots to do! There’s a nature center, multiple bike trails, a historic ford, and a beautiful stream that runs through the middle of the park! My friend and I walked over 7 miles last week and loved every bit! Definitely recommend this park. It’s the “Central Park” of DC!

Noor

Came for a 5k- the trail we ran was gorgeous. The trees overhead provided shade and there was a nice stream nearby. We parked by the tennis court and parking was easy and plentiful

Andrew Bremner

Vicki Kurker

Finally visited and it was amazing. Coming from a more remote area of the USA I was shocked to find a park like this in the middle of DC. In certain areas you can't hear traffic, only birds chirping. Definitely an easy way to destress from City Life and go for a nice hike.

Jason Friedman

I love this park! Went to visit my best friend and we did a 4 mile hike. There is a working stable, and a restored Mill nearby. Sorry, no photos. Go take a hike!

JOANNA London

It's beautiful. An oasis in the middle of the city.

Atif Hassan

Ran a 5k here. It was a nice park with great views and paths, but the infrastructure looks a bit run down and could use some work.

Jessica Martello

Rock Creek is beautiful and a great way to get around from neighborhood to neighborhood in NW by foot or bike.

Maritza Cooper

Absolutely beautiful park. Watching the water crashing over the rocks is very relaxing. A lovely drive thru the park. Unless its rush hour! Then it's not so much fun. Great place to take the kids. The dogs and run.

Arash Arabasadi

It's beautiful. Parking can be a monster, and the place becomes a zoo on weekends with nice weather.

James Walker

The reopening of Beach Drive after years of road work, encouraged me to get out and explore some new areas. Found parking across from Peirce Mills and hiked the Rock Creek Park Trail south to the Smithsonian National Zoological Park and back. Crossed bridges, streams, and observed the budding fall foliage.

Saunya Connelly

Love, love, love this park right in my backyard. One of the best sights to wake up to every morning.

Jo.s

You can bring your own grill. There are some spots with grills but not all of them.

3y6actik *

Great place to spend weekend with a family. A lot of opens space, fresh air. You can take your dog to run on the grass, but be aware of ticks!

Stephen Botts

Sharon Craddock

Beautiful place!! Fantastic running trails.

Peter Peart

The trails offer a diverse array of terrains. They are great to discover and utilize. Some can be challenging and are often slippery. Proceed with caution and look for adventure.

Darlene Butler

Nostalgic. Classic. A native of DC

R Mull

Great place to "get away" without leaving the city. Lots of hiking paths and picnic areas. Be sure to check out the stone bridge!

Kirsten Neus

Rock Creek Park is an oasis in the middle of the city. I feel so lucky to live so close to nature and so many trails while living in the middle of a big city. It’s so fun to explore. Check out Pierce Mill, the Nature Center where you can learn more about the plants and animals found in the park and see a free planetarium show, and the Capitol Stones. Or just pick a trail and start hiking to see where it will lead you.

Drv gwu

Part of park is closed to cars, so it's great for a beautiful, scenic bike ride.

Jesús López

richard bradburn

Toni Ramirez

Beautiful park to walk in. Very peaceful and even has a stream running by. Great place to ride your bike at.

Adam Mele

There are certain things I expect from a park, no exception. Trees, for example. It doesn’t matter if they’re deciduous or coniferous, if it’s got bark and a little bit of greenery to it, I’m in. If there are rocks, even lowly igneous ones, even better. Some sort of body of water. No lie I have a bumper sticker that says ‘I cuddle puddles.’ Anyhow, there’s a reason people tell others to ‘expect the unexpected’ and expect them to be intrigued. Humans, as a creature, are unique in that we crave routine but also novelty. A forest is a good place to find both. Routine, in that you pretty much know what you’re in for depending on the season, and the unexpected, in that you might see a deer or run into an ex, can both be found in this splotch of nature. Can you really ask for much more?

Janell Washington

Been going here since I was born.. Seclusion!!!

Kay Moyer

Beautiful park in D.C. Easy walks that should be enjoyed in cooler months otherwise it's like walking in a sauna.

Patrick Reilly

The trails and roadways are great for runners and walkers. Truly a gem in DC.

Kaike Eduardos

Nice place to run do activity walking super nice

Bryan Henderson

Beautiful place for a day out with the family or a bike ride on the scenic trails...

David Jankowski

As far as metro parks go, Rock Creek is spot on. A great escape from DC city life that helps break up the mass of building. Perfect for a walk, run, or picnic along the creek. For runs, I start closer to Silver Spring, MD due to the lower foot traffic. As you approach the monuments, the number of walkers and runners will drastically increase (for obvious reasons).

ana lucia medina medina

Beautiful place. We made a delicious picnic there!

Claudia Ndenge

Easy trails and hikes just follow the paths. It is along the river and roads so great for beginners! The summer is great too cus all the trees provide cool shade. It also has some pretty good views :)

Ajene Reece

Immense nature environment within city boundary. Amazing treasure!!! Keep it going.

Nizar Farsakh

Love this park! Plenty of beautiful trails, some historical buildings in sites, extreme, and facilities for picnic and even some parking spaces. There is a facility for horseback Riders also which I found strange but I guess there is a trail for horseback Riders in this part as well.

Annie Retreat

Green space that's located near enough to the city to allow for a quiet-ish retreat.

John Wesley Brett

Moderate trail with some scrambling. Good trail for good exercise be it hiking or trail running.

Beautiful park with long trails. It looks incredible in the fall when the leaves change color

Jessy Westfall

Love it! All the awesome bike trails make it a lot of fun.

Maceo Kemp

Great spot where one cwb. commune with nature

Lauren Abrishami

Beautiful Creek. Has a bike trail that leads to the zoo but the trail is mostly asphalt. Lots of woodsy hiking and horse trails

Michael DiDomenico

Probably my favorite part of DC. Great for trail running and hiking. The road is also closed to traffic on the weekend which makes it nice for a bike ride.

El sobreviviente Barrera

All right let's go try

David Koehler-Stanescu

It's easy to forget how good it feels to be surrounded by trees and trails instead of cars.

Pete Lehmann

Friggen awesome wilderness right in the middle of tune most corrupt city in the world, and you'd never even know it!!!

Paul Lindsay

Magnificent leisurely walk or roll alongside the river.

Kelly Davis

Great park to ride bikes. Offers an alternative bike path from west Frederick to downtown. Needs signage as the bike trail connects the nearby communities and it is easy to get turned around and leave the main path. Well maintained otherwise.

Michael Hazeltine

Plenty of trails to run on. Can be hilly and challenging if you want it to be (or get lost). There's paved and unpaved trails and plenty of open spaces.

Rachel Lo

so many runnable trails, you can get great vert and string together your own adventure for tons of miles, such a huge park close to the city

Hispanic Guys

Please be careful when walking or running on the trails because there are bees coming out of the ground and they are bigger than honey bees. They can cause severe pain.

Carlos Ospino

Great bike and hike trails. Awesome views all year round.

VI I

Was there the 1st of December’17. Even though fall was ending and winter was coming, the park was still beautiful. The leaves were orange and brown and a lot of it was on the grown already so it was kind of fun swooshing them as we walked. Would love to come back and visit in October

Robin Robinson

Absolutely beautiful urban green space to share with family and friends - take a picnic.

T S

Rock Creek Park is the most phenomenal natural highlight of Washington, DC. In addition to it's rich history of being Teddy Roosevelt's favorite place to take his famous passegiattas when he was in office, it's also simply a lovely bit of respite from the hustle bustle of the city surrounding it. On my must recent walk through there in the Western Ridge Trail, I was able to spot a small garden snake, some deer, and tons of birds of interest to birdwatchers. I think very much that every denizen of DC should visit here at least once each season to refresh their connection to nature in the heart of the city.

Bryan Nuckles

The best place to "get out of dc" without actually leaving. Some roads closed on the weekends for biking and walking use only!

Jonathan Herr

Great short hike around the Nature Center, friendly staff and nice display of local flora and fauna.

Elkana Bar-Eitan

Great place for families and kids

Felix Ikanzo

Amazing trails here.

frank swyca

Beautiful Park. We reserved use of Pavilion 13. Everything we needed was there; sheltered pavilion, fire pit, grill for cooking, picnic tables, and lots of green space for activities. Will definitely return.

Colby Berry

A great park to run, hike, or drive around in. If you are just visiting DC or live in DC you must take a trip to Rock Creek Park, even if you just drive through it. A great outdoor environment separating the two sides of DC. In addition, inside of Rock Creek Park you can find some pretty unique stuff, old mansions and plenty of great historical stuff.

Frank Andruzzi

Visited Capital Stones site to see original limestone blocks from the US Capital building. Take the trail past the office entrance of the horse riding center near Military Rd and Oregon Ave.

Devry Jones

It’s a real gem of a national park that tourists don’t tend to frequent.

LaJuan Howard

I love this park. Great views

Shankar Kulumani

Great park in the heart of DC. You can travel from the mall all the way to Maryland by hiking or bicycle. You can easily forget you're in DC as the trees do a good job masking the sound of traffic.

Deirdre Brill

Great Park, Good for people who love the outdoors

Bruce Davidson

This park is all right. Central Park in NYC is much better.

Jonathan Lipscomb

Great for biking, hiking, jogging and exploring. Great natural beauty, historic grist mill, architectural bridges and scenic views. Access to zoo, nature center, and traverses from Georgetown to Maryland.

Mike Sackie

Always just a walk on the park very safe and well kept

Sara Meta

We had a great time exploring a small part of the trail system here. Looking forward to heading back for more. Amazing that we couldn't hear city traffic noises at all. What a great oasis so close to the city!

Akua Nyamekye

Very peaceful on weekends as one portion is blocked to vehicles

Jennifer Fotinos

We enjoyed a beautiful day of hiking and running the trails in the park. Part of the trail went right by the river. Dog friendly park! You can easily put the miles in while weaving through the trails.

Kimberly Martin

Lovely place to "get away" from the city. Lots of off-leash dogs.

Fidel Q

What can you say about an oasis of mother nature in the middle of the world's capital(figuratively speaking). I am not a hiking/nature evangelist but I can definitely appreciate escape from the monotony of human/urban sprawl. Having a space for a quiet walk where the sounds of sirens and traffic are replaced by birdsong, crickets and rustling leaves in the breeze is truly special. It helps that I live about a block away.

James H

Nature is always great....very peaceful nice spot outside the city

Abby Arnold

An urban wilderness..a treasure.

Houda Derkaoui

Love being next to the water. It is a clean park and there are areas for picnic and barbecue just make sure you bring your own trash bags and take trash with you please.

kenneth kamau

Beautiful trail with lots of shade

Sheamus Burns

Great place to run on the weekends. Part of beach road that runs along the creek is closed off to vehicles from Saturday morning to Sunday evening. Tons of easy, well defined and upkept trails.

Tiffany Liu

Nice park in DC with lots of trails and parking nearby if you are visiting from further away. Bathrooms need more upkeel though

Rene Wallis

Can't go wrong at Rock Creek. Bring your own grill for a picnic.

Mister Jon

A beautiful park, with easy access to hiking trails. Note: many areas of the park, such as picnic areas close at sundown. The main paths are well maintained. A person with a keen eye will see wildlife. If you're into horseback riding, you can do that as well here. Check out the Peirce Mill while you're here.

Kristine Kellenberger

Pretty park in the middle of DC. We totally picked the wrong metro stop to use to get there though, so that made for a few extra miles of walking. The visitor center was nice and clean, however, the park ranger wasn't sure where many things were on the map and I had to point them out to her. The Mill House was very cool and the people inside were knowledgeable and friendly.

M Jack

Good place to go for a walk or jogging!

Pamala Botts

Wonderful nature area inside busy DC off of 16th street, nice cookout spots, the creek is relaxing to sit by, pleasant experience...

Dave Roche

You like nature? You'll like to escape to this park too

Monica Hanna

This National Park is a gem! Huge and sometimes forgotten by locals, it offers a lot. Stop at the Nature Center and Planetarium first. Pick up a map! Even if you are a local, you may not be aware of all of the facilities and locations offered. The Park Rangers are helpful and there are very clean restrooms, wildlife exhibits, a gift shop, planetarium and water for your hike. There are many miles of hiking and horseback riding trails that snake throughout the park and cross the eponymous Rock Creek. Most of Beach Drive is closed to motorized traffic on weekends and holidays. Bike riders, roadrunners and walkers take over this long, paved, winding road on these days. The National Zoo, Carter Baron Amphitheatre and a small but varied Par Course are also accessible via roads in the park.

Josh E.

A nice park but the place Chandra Levy was murdered at in 2001. It also happened to be one of the last places she was searching on her computer.

James Withy

Great park for running or picnics. Plenty of space to find a secluded spot or meet up with a group. Trails are fairly well kept. Still has a wilderness feel to it. It could have better signs posted, so make sure you know where you are going. There is also a nature education center and a equestrian center.

Dennis Davenport

Love this park. Nice trails for walking or running.

Andrei B

I love exploring here, makes me feel like a kid again!

Joanna Giddens

Big park in the middle of the city, some stream-side spots, lots of people and trails are not always easy to find, but beautiful

John Coplen

If you visit DC, make some time for a stop or drive through Rock Creek Park. Lush, green, cool and the bridge architecture is stunning.

Sabrina Garcia

I always loved this beautiful forest and always will

Jerome Lamboy

This is a beautiful park in DC. I just wish the water would be cleaner.

Jon F

Beautiful area for hiking, picnics, kayaking, or just a nice drive. There are miles of trails in the park with many interesting historic locations along the way. The greenery and the creek make for some spectacular views especially near the Calvert Street and Connecticut Avenue bridges.

Jasmine H

nice park perfect for a picnic with a blanket

shamaurie hollis

It's great to have this right in my "backyard"

Anthony Hennig

It's a park! It's pretty good! It's got some trees and some animals I suppose! Watch out for washed out Trailways or paced bikeways after the rains

Anne Nelson

Truly a treasure! Deep in the woods, you forget you're in a major city

John Frazier

The woods of Rock Creek Park offer a much needed refuge from the city

LaChelle Brown

The park is huge! There is so much gorgeous nature to explore right in the heart of DC!!

ilucasphotography

A very fun park to walk and enjoy nature. There are several trails and many opportunities to see animals.

Bill Mustakas

It’s an average park but it is convenient to get to if you are in DC.

Julie Harris

Beautiful! I love the large paved walking path.

Nora Burghardt

It's great. Can't wait for the roads to be fixed!

Dave Bone

I saw what is called a fish gate (?) that allows fish to swim upstream which was interesting. Be careful where you walk your dog. Some people leave food scraps behind that turn rancid. Rock Creek Park is a beautiful place, but keep your eye out when walking pets.
