REVIEWS OF Patapsco Valley State Park IN Maryland

James

Plenty of places to park. The people were friendly all around. Pets were well watched, as were ours, two St. Bernard's. Lovely trails alongside the river in a picturesque setting. Families having great times all around. I would definitely return.

Cobb Chuck

Groomed trail's, slightly challenging. Nothing to hard.

Billy Earles

These pictures were taken on the back side of the Chevrolet Loop Trail. The starting point is near the Woodstock Inn. I've done the hike in early fall and again in late fall. Both were great. It is nice to have trails like this close to Baltimore. It is a 6.8 mile hike, not too difficult, and takes about 2.5 hours to 3 hours to complete. The old Chevy is updated periodically. Thanks for whoever maintains the remains. Update: I have added a few more pictures of the trail in early summer.

Glenn Zior

I camped there with my 27ft trailer. Sites are spaced nicely with trees in between. My site was perfectly level with a paved bib and a nice base. All sites are close to the bathhouse. Bathhouse was clean with 2 showers and hot water. It has a utility room to clean dishes for the tenting sites. So far it has been super quiet at night. A nice state park that is in between 2 business areas and close to 695 beltway. Plenty of stores close by.

Jose Munoz

This place is huge. Do your research before you go. Lots to do. And vary easy to get lost. Many trails. For beginners and advanced.

Larry Holt

The Cascade Trail and its waterfalls are beautiful. But this is a popular spot. So plan your trip on a weekday if at all possible if you want to avoid the typical weekend and after 5:00 weekday crowds.

roger mecca

Great mtn biking and family hiking. Good hiking for kids. Safe.

Sheri Smith

The Patapsco Park was Great! And the park rangers were so friendly and helpful.

Sharone Mahpour

Beautiful park, had storm damage from recent storm 6/24/19. Has lots of beautiful spots that are hidden and fun to explore. Something for every age group and every back ground. Avalon entrance.

Michal W Mankowski

Splendid place to visit. Camp, hike, ride a bike. It's hilly so take your time and carry water bottle. Enjoy view of Patapsco valley from the viewpoint. Very peaceful here. If you're angler, you can catch a brown trout or bass. Have fun and stay safe.

Stephen Metz

Great park to walk dogs in but there are no waste bins near the trail to throw your doggie clean up bags in so you have to carry it with you for Miles until you get by the bathrooms

Evelyn Marroquin

The place is nice but they need to put a dumpster because is thrash everywhere. And thw parking need to be fix.

Atlee Marrie

The falls were a bit smaller than expected and the trail was very crowded, but the trails were well kept. Parking on the side of the road was a bit tight. Fun trail overall!

stacy Hindt

Very scenic and beautiful place. Make sure you stay on the designated trails because heaven forbid you wander off and the mean horse lady who lives back in the way will be very mean to you. Lol... I pleasantly advised her that I would make sure that others were aware that it is private property so make sure you stay on the proper trails people!

Chinell Jones

I love this park! Beautiful scenery. River, waterfalls, wading areas for the kids. Biking, hiking and walking trails. You can even catch glimpses of some large birds and butterflies. Great park for photography! $2 to enter per vehicle on weekdays for in state residents.

Joe Hearn

Had a great time Luis was great. Four stars because one of the other refs was rude to us not once but twice today. Not sure of his name but had a full beard and a higher authority type attitude, bro you work at a paintball place get a life.

karl burr

Music limits are a little extra. Outlets don't work properly. Need a bigger play area for kids. Overall pretty decent

Paul Jordan

Great place for a hike or mountain bike ride. Remember to bring some cash to pay the entrance fee though. They have a self serve station, but you’ll obviously need exact change for those. When we went, it was $2 for an in-state car, and $4 for an out of state car.

Ken Baker

Wilderness area that is easy to get to with miles of hiking and bicycle trail options just a few minutes driving time south of Baltimore.

Rebecca M

Great place for a hike or a swim! The trails are well organized and labeled, but head there early or else it fills up for the day!

Nate Koch

I would love to give this place a five but first and foremost it's impossible to navigate. Their websites map is junk and the one they give you at the gate coming in is as well. Google maps is little to no help. In the end I'm a pokemon go player and the roads and walking trails were mapped out better there. Thank God I'm a nerd. Otherwise the playgrounds were awesome, the park was clean and generally well kept minus some trash on the river banks, the river was great. The pull was a little too strong for children under 10 or 12, obviously depending on size and swimming capabilities. The lake and a few areas were closed or caution taped due to flooding.

Sol Tan

great for family and kids with different trails to choose from...go early if you want to avoid the minions ;) very helpful staff.

michael king

Nice park lots of trails quiet relaxing area

Obrad Micic

This place is absolutely amazing. Nature in real meaning many great trails and rest area just awesome.

Edward Chalgren

Other than the wasp/hornet/yellow jacket sting I got, a pretty good time.

H Bicking

I had to Google this place to find it. I have never been here. I have told Google reviews three times that I have not been there, and dismissed the request for review five times. They keep bugging me for a review, so here it is. I apparently sat in traffic near this park. Not noticeable from the street.

Charles Smith

Very fun and challenging trails best left for intermediate to advanced riders. Roots, rocks, tight singletrack and stream crossings can make the ride quite difficult in some areas.

Lehla Evans

Beautiful, well maintained spot. Camp hosts are great, bathrooms are clean. It's a bit tight for a big camper, but we managed.

Jason Wenhold

One of my favorite parks! The beauty of nature abounds here! It can get very crowded on the weekends so come early.

Dave Albert

Beautiful state park which is great for hiking and picnics. Park offers sheltered areas for large groups.

Joyce Gaither

The pavillion need trash can .having to take your o. Trash with you is crazy. When you have a big family reunion. You pay to come in each car and than pay to rent the spot.they need spot for trash.i would not rent there that's for sure.

Howard le roux

Great place to hike, picnic or enjoy the day out. Pet friendly, with playgrounds for the kids. Five stars

jeffero10

Beautiful park, clean river very good trials and ability to swim

Nathan Sanchez

Lots of trails that are kid friendly. Gets a little crowded during the warmer months. There's an interprative center, playground, waterfront, and good number of bathroom facilities at various places.

G. B.

Awesome place to take the kids! Clean area and bathroom.

Mike Cavey

Very easy to get into to empty holding tanks. Best to go by car first to park headquarters to pay and get map and gate code....as RV will not navigate underpass due to 11' 1" height restriction of Rte. 40 overpass. Our 38ft RV navigated interior, winding, paved road's very easily. Review's about tree's scraping RV must be folks driving through the woods. We've been several times without trouble.

Cody Starken

Patapsco Valley State Park is a perfect example of safe urban camping for family and friends. It's a good place for beginners. The location also has a 1.8, there and back medium rated trail called the Patapsco River Ridge Trail connected to the camp site, which will take you to the Patapsco River. The camping areas are in walking distance to shower and bathroom facilities. It also has drinking and non-drinking water available (potable/non-potable). You can also buy ice and fire wood, which will last a night camping. The tent sites have power or no power and provides a wood pit/grill with picnic benches. Will come back again.

B Bilal

Great place for a day out and fun activities. I recently visited this place while my visit to Maryland and was amazed and amused to see natural beauty of the area. This park is a huge one consisting of acres and acres. There is a lot of space for BBQ and it has a hiking trail as well. The parking is sufficient and kids play area is good enough to keep kids busy.

Phillip Stoner

Took my family camping a few weeks ago and it was a really great time. We shared a site with another family and it was a bit tight but we managed to fit two 6 person tents and our vehicles on the site. If you have more than that it might be a bit tight so just check the site dimensions before you stay. The trails were good, the park was clean and so where the restrooms & showers. Is definitely camp here again in the future.

Ed Hawkins

One of the nicest parks to enjoy nature and spend some quality time with your dog!

Got 3D Video

We enjoyed spending time in the river, especially on such a hot day in the city. It would be great if we had better river access from the park area, though...schlepping our stuff from car to riverbank was a definite chore, especially with an expectant mom of twins... Otherwise, this is a great slice of nature withing easy driving distance of most everywhere, and we love visiting for anquiet afternoon away from town.

Marian Rosenberg

I've been going here since I was a small child. It's a nice green spot not too far from the city that feels like you've gotten very far away.

Hussain Mohammed

Excellent facilities, great prices, nice hikes, and close proximity to civilization.

S Trotter

Wear appropriate shoes if you want to take the trails. The trails can be steep and have loose rocks. Beautiful scenic views and friendly staff.

Marvin Boykins

It was a great hiking experience. It provided a way for the whole family to get out and get physical. The scenery was great too.

Rae Smith

The Pickall Picnic Shelter was a wonderful venue. It was large enough to accommodate more than 200 family members. With that much space we were able to use 1 shelter primarily for food and the other for activities. The open space in the middle served us well as a dance floor! The venue was perfect for our family reunion, the 2nd in 17 years!

Kathleen Coles

Camped in the cabins in the Hilton area. Great little cabins that are air-conditioned! Nice clean restrooms too. Lovely park

Melissa Baker

I model here and it’s a nice clean park!

Michelle Price

Very nice park nice little walk through the woods to get down to the water grandson and granddaughter love it

Ronnie Demory

A great place to visit or have a family outing. The atmosphere is very relaxing.

Ken Clark

A nice place to enjoy nature, with a large variety of trails and interesting sights.

Jenai German

Really clean, great place to go hiking, very dog friendly.

QuarterSach SS

Nice quiet place to walk, bike or just park and think...

Nerrie Omez

We had so much fun at Patapsco Valley. Talking about a park that is well kept and that people work in and on it constantly so we could all enjoy it. Like I said, we had a lot of fun. Wish there were more restrooms available. Still wont stop me from recommending it.

Chante Callaway

Beautiful park to hold events or to just have a peaceful moment to yourself.

D Jackson

I love this park. Hiking the trails dow to the river and seeing the views of Patapsco Valley is beyond amazing. There are so many different areas to the park. There are areas where you can grill. There are larger pavilions where you can hold gatherings (with parks permission of course). There is a playground closer to the entrance Getting down to the river is a nice scene but you can hike along the river as well. The trails can be steep so be mindful of your gear and your foot placement. Would not reccomend hiking down some of the trails to anyone who isnt really used to it, especially children. Very well maintained and great open space to do pretty much anything.

Sagun Shrestha

It was a great place.. we loved the steep slope to the river.. toddler loved it !! Good child play area.

rahul agarwalla

Very nice park, for pictures by a body of water.

Rob Williamson

Really great park! Tons of trails (paved and non paved). Great, easy walk all along the river if you want or you can dip off on one of the loop trails through the woods. You even get to walk through a tunnel on one trail! Multiple spots to park and hike in. Also have a playground for kids! Would recommend to anyone looking for a day out in the sunshine!

Kevin Stewart

Very easy to find, clean, and lots of room for small or large gatherings. Will definitely go back.

Lucas Reuling

Such a great park. Love the trails. They are well kept.

Antonio Griffin

Mixed trails are full of horse poop. Loved the foot trails. Be wary or snakes on paths. Carry a stick

Luis Tetatzin

Great place for hiking and mountain biking. Lots of families enjoying the river and picnic areas.

Redslither

Fun to ride inflatables down the river. They have nice trails but i spend most of my time by the river. Last time i went though they were closed due to full capacity. Not really sure how that works.

Manuel Moya

Nice place to spend time hiking or just relaxing. Lots of access from different areas. Well maintained year round.

Jessi Steere

Perfect spot for trail running, swimming and mountain biking. A local treasure!

Stanley Martin

I only rode through the area but I have visited here numerous times over the years and found it to be a fantastic State Park

Waleed Awan

It's good place to spemd time to see nature. Hiking is good till river but as far as it is forest so i was sitting on a stone (where i made the video i shared) there was a big snake right next to me

Alexander Fuchs

Took my dog out camping for the first time in his life, friendly camp hosts and quiet neighbors, perfect way to enjoy a peaceful night camping

Jo d

Very nice 'beach' area at the creek (Avalon area). We enjoyed our time there. However I was bewildered at the lack of trash cans. Couldn't find any at the pavillion, playground or anywhere for that matter.

denny newborn

Picnic tables and grills in a nice wooded setting. There is a trail called union dam that is steep and leads to the water. It's only a half a mile but too challenging for those with limitations. There is a river with a current but if you go before mini rapids it's clear and calm and can swim. There is an active railroad track that you have to pass to get to trail that takes you to an overlook. Watch out for train!!!! Very steep and also challenging for a short trail. That trail is better in the winter after the leaves fall. Can see bottom but in summer only see trees. Each trail is like a mile roundtrip. But can add more to it if walk upstream.

Robin Parrish

Great trails and the water has been low lately! Take the less beaten path to find the abandoned hidden treasures!

Patricia Bouthner

Nice close weekend getaway. This is always our first camping trip of the year. We use it to work any kinks out. Not a long trip home if something on the RV isn't up to task.

Matt H.

Probably the best-known state park in central Maryland, Patapsco offers plenty of hiking opportunities along the river itself and higher up along the hillsides. Check out the Swinging Bridge and the waterfall if you get the chance. Note that as of this review (Sept, 2019), the park is still recovering from the devastating flooding of May, 2018, so don't be surprised if some areas are closed or temporarily in poor condition.

Jermaine Colon

Off on the cut. Beautiful views of a military choppers landing base. Really was hoping they take off and do an exercise. Nice park very clean and strict on time in and out the park

Drew Dedrick

Great trails, waterfalls, occasional trains, pottery shards.

Rebecca Johnson

Very nice park, lots of shade. Easy walk.

Alexander Lagana

I really enjoy being out in nature and the this park is really close to where I live. I go there often.

Sabrina Luckart

Modeled here 4 times the river and waterfalls are beautiful and alot to see.

Roopam Sharma

Really nice experience for my little one's,both my toddlers enjoyed it alot

Debi Vans Evers

Lovely camping area. We had a great time. Not loud at all.

Jason Clarke

An outstanding park for trail running and MT biking 30+ miles of world class trails

Kristen King

Great trails! They're working on fixing some post flood but there are different trails and entrances for all kinds of walk, run, hike, and bike levels from paved flat trails to hills covered in roots and rocks! Definitely be careful anytime the water level has been high as trails can be slippery and unexpected trail interruptions. Lovely quite scenery though! Enjoy! Parking in some areas is paid ($2-3) but there are trailheads with free parking

Virginia Downie

Even with some of the trails currently closed still worth the vist. The trails that are open are well kept and easy to navigate.

Geoff Hansen

Always new things to find in the woods. Great place to walk your dog.

Jeff Patrick

The mtb trails are extensive. I had not ridden there for a year. Rode a couple of nice new trails. It's a huge set of trails that have seen really damaging weather so do not expect totally groomed conditions. Nice elevation and a real blast to ride here.

QUINNY

This is an awesome place to visit whether your gonna take a quick walk or spend the day. Plenty of hiking trails from easy to hard. Lots of wildlife and hiking along the river has lots of flora and if you look close in the deep corners and bends of the water you will see trout! Picnic areas abound. It does fill up on the weekends by late morning so go early. Always less crowded in the back section of the park and much quieter. There is a fee to get in but with bathrooms for everyone it is worth it. The video I posted is a beech tree releasing the tri cornered beechnuts from the husks abd it sounds like rain fall

Nicholas Hughes

The McKeldin area is my favorite of Patapsco Valley State Park. It has great shelters, playgrounds, and a frisbee golf course. The trails are also very nice and bring you along some very pretty stretches of the river. There are things to do for the whole family.

Andrea Jackson

Fun trails, friendly staff. The dogs and I really enjoyed the hike to the river! Just beautiful.

Juliana Benini

Awesome MTB trails. Can’t wait to explore it all!

Dan Egdes

It was a great park, clean and pleasant with trails of different intensities. I recommend to check the entrance you go to and that it matches your desired path before going. The more difficult trails are t suitable for a casual walk but there are easier ones that would suffice. Ask the helpful staff for more details. Entrance fee of $2 per vehicle for the day, definitely worth it!

Andrae Cadogan

Loved it. Nice trails and views

Matthew Barnes

Great little place in Ellicott City. Easy access to the park. Friendly and helpful staff. Nice hike to the river for fishing. Definitely recommend!

Harry Smith

On August 24, 2019, I rented a pavilion at the Holifield area at Patapsco State park. After setting up the Family picnic area, I was immediately confronted by park rangers, who threatened me with being evicted from the pavilion. I can provide video, that we were not disturbing the peace, being to loud. The only thing that we were doing was being black. I rented pavilions for three years in a row and this is the first time I have been confronted with blatant disrespect and racism.

Jessica Mathis

Even though it's only a few miles down the road, we just started hiking over here. It's a gem! Great for nature lovers and anyone with kids or just getting into hiking. Many different paths to take. Been three times and took a different path each time. Can take some a little more hilly or not so much from what I've experienced so far. Plan to spend they day and do lunch with the kids next time to go on a couple of the trails. Got to see a few deer grazing :)

Kristi Nothstein

Great place to take the family and let the little ones play.

Marc LaBelle

It's a fine hiking area, but nothing like the pictures. There were no waterfalls, no bridges, and the hike was quite short.

James Yancey

Haven been their n.yrs enjoyed our family picnic shelter 708 was clean area well.kept will visit again thanks

Donald Spatz

Small campground. Well wooded. Electric sites available. Nicest showers I have found in 5 months of RVing. Can't say much about the whole park since most of my time was spent in Baltimore City.

Andrew Ellis

Beautiful park for the area. Great area to hike or mountain bike.

Kendra

I was in the Baltimore area on business looking for a place to go walking when I found this park. They charge $2 to get in; I believe it's free for seniors. There are several trails you can walk but I chose one with a paved surface called gristmill or something like that. It was beautiful. A great spot for a teen's senior pictures! Just don't forget the bug spray.

Connie Green

We hiked the Cascade Falls Loop Trail on a warm December day and it was beautiful. There wasn't a parking lot where we accessed the trail- just park along the edge of the road. One half of the trail follows along a beautiful creek and the falls are gorgeous. The trail wasn't well marked in places (almost all trails are marked with the same color, even at intersections) and we were glad we had an app with the map of the trail that GPS tracked our location so we knew where to go. We could bring our dog. It wasn't too challenging but there is a moderately steep incline for half of the trail, some muddy patches, and some creek crossings so water friendly shoes were important. Some hikers had difficulty where the trail crosses the waterfall on wet rocks. About 3.2 miles total and it took us about 2 hours.

Mr Adams

No swimming pool but the pavilions are very large with a fireplace. Also has a nice size charcoal grill you can use of need be. The bathrooms near our pavilion were nicely kept.

Don DeHaven

Woodstock and Daniels areas of psvp have some of the most challenging MTB trails in the park system.

Earl D. Karper, Sr.

Patricio State Park is a very nice place - not as good as it was in my childhood and teenage years, but we'll cared for. They are actively working against the invasive species of grasses. The only problem I ran into was: There is a $3.00 entrance fee - not a bad deal really, BUT, there is no one to make change. It is a honor system box (that was over-full with some envelopes falling onto the ground). Not knowing about the free ahead of time, no warning as you drive up to the entrance station, I was not prepared. To make matters worse, I had other vehicles right behind me who were getting impatient. I wound up paying $5.00 for the $3.00 fee to be able to attend my grandsons' Cub Scout ceremony. If they want to charge for entry there should be no less than a sign telling you about the fee ahead with no one to make change - OR have a real person at the entrance to handle the money!!!

Mark Miller

Miles and miles of trails. Need to come back and explore some more. Generally nice gradual climbs, except when closest to the creek. The parking area near the skills area is confusing because there are two entrances but they're not connected. Some of the trails North of the swinging bridge were closed in the spring of 2019.

Donald Tan

Took the Grist Mill Trail and it is a nice, easy one alongside the river. The trail is nice for biking and dogs. There are some places for kids and picnic near the swinging bridge.

Meagan Raghunanan

We had my grandmother's celebration of life here. Even though it was an extremely hot day, we all had a great time! The kids especially loved the playground area!

Jeff Hamman

Beautiful state park! Multiple bike and hiking trails. Access via trails to local streets.

David Geyer

We are a vendor. Bring in activities. The park is very supportive. We are Pedestal Events, thanks !

Henry Heisterhagen

Enjoyed the park

Jennifer Baker

This may be the cleanest state park we've ever used -- haven't hit all of them yet. By early morning, rangers and camp hosts are out and about making sure that everything is fresh for that days campers and park users. We stayed in one of the Hilton area cabins because the weather report showed rain. Very clean and tidy -- the fire ring almost look unused. The trail heads were marked, but it was very helpful that we had taken the time to print the online maps before our arrival. The camp map was very basic.

Spencer Arias

Great place to spend a night or two. Great price and power for the RV. Close enough to the train station for a ride into D.C. Was quiet at night and peaceful, except for the Katydids.

Darlene Davis

Clean restrooms, hot water. Great hiking trails.

Chris Demeree

Great little hideaway minutes away from downtown Baltimore. The hiking trails are well groomed and there are places to dip your feet in the river. You can even camp and/or have a picnic with friends and family

Harry Slack

This was a really fun hike. I camped in the area with my friend, and we spent the weekend just having a blast in the woods. We'll probably go again next year assuming our schedules work with us.

Tom Drake

Has a great time biking Grist Mill trail. Saw people enjoying the park.

Alex Meyer

This park features beautiful trails for mountain biking, some quite untamed. I rode on half sized tires and survived, but would not recommend for under age 12ish or until on a full size cycle. I'll have to come back with a bigger bike sometime, unfortunately it's quite far from Kansas so bringing a full size bike is more difficult.. perhaps they have mtn bike rentals..? Saw lots of horseback riding and hiking, lovely to see people outdoors. Good playgrounds and lots of parking.

Kym Bee

My family and dog Love, love camping at this Park. Great amenities the bathrooms are always clean n fresh. The Camp Pad always clean and ready for setup of tent. Camping Pads are pretty close to each other so your in your neighbor business by default. Police patrols for safety all through the day and night. Great family fun from the outside busy world.

Bryon Buckland

I am 50 years old I have been going to Patapsco State Park since I was five. When the flood of Agnes hit "1972" I was camping with my parents in Patapsco State Park the Avalon area. When you were able to camp underneath the tunnel now it's only campfires in Park area . And I have a lot of brochures and memorabilia from that flood. Every time I go there we have a great time I am 50 years old I have been going to Patapsco State Park since I was 5. When the flood of Agnes hit I was camping with my parents in Patapsco State Park the Avalon area. & I have a lot of brochures and memorabilia from that flood. Everytime I go there we have a great time it is a great escape from the city life or even County life. Our own little taste of wilderness not far away. Thank you for letting us enjoyed Patapsco State Park!

Dana Sanders

Many different rules to follow here so if your used to woods or wilderness freedom camping this isn't your place. However if it's a fast getaway and no frills the campground hosts are really super nice and so very helpful & friendly sites are crusher run small rocks and gets everywhere a little hard to drive in steaks.

Steve McWhorter

Awesome hike along the water. Parking was tough, since you are either in the tiny lot or on the street

Karen S

We had a great time walking trails in the park. There is even a cave!

Alicia Mullins

Visiting Patapsco Park in mid-September during the week with low humidity and temperatures was a good way to spend a day off with my spouse. We parked and walked down to the falls. On the way to the parking lot we saw a fawn crossing the road. The large Koi fish that was in the water swam too fast for me to snap a photo. Along the walk there were areas for families to picnic and grill food and enjoy nature. Walking down to falls did require a sure foot and good balance but offered an excellent view. It costs $2 per car during the week and $3 on weekends. I highly recommend visiting.

Bogdan Novacescu

Love going there with my girls. the kids love it

Alesia Backmon Backmon

I loved it. Beautiful place to visit. Very spacious

Samuel Horowitz

I grew up in Catonsville. So we would all go there to hike, walk your dog, ride mountain bikes, fish, swim, have cookouts, park our cars and handout. Great trails cool cable bridge on one side. On the other side there was the Paper Mill factory and the train tussle and tunnel. I worked for the Paper Mill for a few summers. That was the hottest job I have ever experienced! Well.. its closed up now. I had a friend who lived at the top of the hill.We would hangout there also. The houses were for the managing staff. A tin of my Greatest of Memories! First kiss there..

thewimboslice1

As a professional photographer, I love that a place like this is so near me. Always clean and hardly ever too crowded

Shane Kristian

Hiking trails are maintained well and are accessible to a variety of folks with different experience levels.

Gina Bruzdzinski

Nice mostly paved path along the river to a dam. Small parking area

Nilay Sheth

Great park with lots of wildlife, trails and preserved land... friendly rangers

Mohammed Rahman

Beautiful area, great for hiking. Park also has children's playground and a BBQ area. Great place to take the family out for the day.

jt roberts

A gorgeous little park 20 min to Baltimore. Nice nice nice. Hollofield Campground has electric for the rvers

Cody Waters

Beautiful place, has alot of different trails throughout the park.

Dave Zol

My favorite summertime spot get there early or you won't find parking

RedAftermath

Nice clean and quiet park. Lots of beautiful waterfalls and hiking trails for all kinds of hikers

Kate Tallent

Here often with my dog hiking and we love it. Fabulous park. The trails are spectacular. We are lucky to have this park. My ONLY suggestion is that the park staff ensure that dog owners NOT have their dogs off leash. It is a serious problem. Either signs need to be put up or folks kicked out of the park, maybe both. It is illegal in MD to have dogs off leash. A responsible dog-owner obeys the law.

Don Frazier

Love the state parks. Great place to walk

Doviea Harper

The park was clean although it was hard to find a trashcan. The playground that we were on was well maintained. Plenty of play equipment for the children to climb on and over. The ground in the play area appears to be made of recycled tire, so less scrapes when falling. My only complaint is the cost on the weekend. During the week you pay per vehicle, but on the weekends you pay per person in the car.

Angelo O

Clean scenic trails that runs near historic landmarks and live railroad tracks. Trail is very steep at certain areas and can be slippery after a rainy day. You can also take a refreshing dip where its safe in the Patapsco River.

michael daniello

Please be considerate and clean up after yourselves when visiting are state parks take all your trash with you as well we marylanders will appreciate it

Steven Williams

Spent around 5 hours walking the Santee trail. Beautiful park, well maintained. Gorgeous scenery everywhere. Bring a camera!

Monica Arciga

Cool park for hiking, picnicking, and tubing. There is a playground area at the Avalon entrance parking lot. The parking lots can full pretty early. We hiked the Gristmil trail which is shady and paved, so it's good for strollers & bikes. This trail also goes along the water. There is small per person entrance fee to the park. Kids in carseats are free.

Rachel Hartenstein

Quiet, shady, sandy places to explore along the water. A great place to take the kids to play on a hot day.

Temple Fugate

Beautiful trails. More than a day's worth of exploring can cover.

Boden McHale

Went on an 8 mile hike with absolutely beautiful scenery. The paths seem well maintained but there is quite a lot of mud so be ready to get dirty.

Morgan Allison

Awesome park for hiking or paddling. Parking is very limited near the Daniels area.

Thoma Riviegravere

We decided upon a 5-6 mile hike on a warm Saturday in July. The park was busy but once we found a place to park and got over the first hill, the crowd was behind us. I was surprised how busy the playgrounds and picnic areas were. It’s a well used park. If you are interested in the facilities, check if reservations are available for the picnic area of your choice. The trails are well marked with paint slashes and some signs. But pull up a map on your phone, just for the redundancy. Another good idea is to take a picture of a trail map to reduce the chance of getting lost. The park had a nominal cost on this busy Saturday. There were a number of rangers directing traffic; but I can’t image that is needed every day. This is a very pretty park with good facilities.

Wow, such a beauty. So peaceful. Best way to escape from a daily routine within city . I spent time walking along the water. Cross over bridge was simply beautiful .

A very nice and serene place! Great for taking a moment to meditate. One side has swift flowing water. The other peaceful and slow.

So much fun and refreshing! The air is clean. The trails are fun and very shaded and clean. Wear some good treaded shoes. Bring some friends for a great day!

A scenic oasis of nature in the suburbs of Baltimore. Great for families. The closest real waterfall in the region.
