REVIEWS OF Great Falls Park IN Maryland

It's a great place to spend a peaceful day with family. I visited in the evening and only had time to visit the overlook points and cover the river trail. However, i still had a very good time. I saw families setting up tents and carpets on the grass with lots of food and grills. Children were playing around on the grass. Overall, its a very good picnic place. I did feel the $15 entry was a little higher, $10 would have been fine, but this is just my opinion :)

Dick Jones

Wow, had no idea something this great was so close! Beautiful views from every overlook, and you will leave with an understanding of Geo. Washington's vision for a canal. I've visited the southern end of the Park at Mt. Vernon many times in my life, but the northwestern-most end is really a stunning visit. Highly recommended!

Superstar Kels

Everything is so beautiful. My very first time visiting and it was amazing. I cant explain how good it felt. The scenery is absolutely positively stunning. I will definitely be back

Ritika Dahiya

Really hard to get out of this place if you don't have a car! I was stuck here for over 2 hours in a torrential downpour as the signals are too patchy and really hard to reach. Apart from that, this place is wonderful! Great 2.5 mile hike by the river, overlooking the falls! Great spot for a day of picnic as well, accessible viewpoints for the wheelchairs and baby strollers. Great to spend a day with family in nature.

Jules Polynice

Wear comfy clothes and shoes. It was beautiful. Its less crowded after 4. Great for picnics and hikes.

Glen Morris

A great national Park in Virginia that has some spectacular views! The Park is open from 7:00 a.m. to 6:00 p.m. and is maintained by the national Park service. They have a visitor center that have something to look at and is very interesting! The park was first opened in 1966 and they have been a lot of renovations. Very nice bathrooms and picnic area if you want to go and pack a picnic! The park was first opened in 1966 and they have been a lot of renovations. Very nice bathrooms and picnic area if you want to go and pack a picnic!

Dmitri Toptygin

Excellent view of the waterfalls and good rocky trails for hiking, like the Billy Goat Trail.

Antonio Acosta

This is a great location to bring your family. The scenery is amazing and the Park is very well maintained. As a hiking destination, it has the best trails in the region. Bring plenty of water and enjoy. Remember to leave no trace behind.

Royal Olives

Beautiful park, very clean and well maintained with super helpful staff. There is a $15 per car entry fee, but they do take credit cards, which was nice since I didn’t have any cash.

Suki J

What an amazing place! A nice place to go for walks, barbeque and spend time with family. A number of parking options and many trails and pathways. If you're in DC area, a must see.

CRad Varbs

This is a go-to hike or bring-stuff-to-grill spot. Lots of cliff walks down-river and plenty of space to run around near the falls. Crowded on weekends with nice weather, but typically bearable. Might be charged an entrance fee per car, but well worth it!

William Sarkis

There is no other place like this. The falls are beautiful. There are a few overlooks where you can take pictures. The shots I got are stunning. If you want to picnic, bring your dog, hike, etc. this is your place. If you want a slightly more difficult hike, try "billy goat's trail." Bring sneakers for this. It is climbing a trail near a bunch of rocks. Great falls is gorgeous. $10-15 fee to get inside per car.

Ken Raymond

The trails are nice. Nothing too difficult here to walk. The River trail has a few big hills. Seeing the falls is always wonderful. If people are a concern, some of the longer trails are secluded. I've been coming to the park off and on for the better part of 20 years.

Jackie

Such a wonderful retreat away from the city. I've been so many times but I'm still discovering new trails to follow, love this place!

Daniel Cox

Really great park. It is close enough to the city for a quick little jaunt in the park, but far enough away that you don't feel like you're in the city. My only complaint is the admission price of $15 is pretty steep for what you get. I feel it is worth $10. I've been to a lot of national parks and this one is small, so the price should represent the value.

Michael Karman

Such a beautiful place. Well maintained trails, good scrambles and more ambitious climbing if you're game for it. Can't wait to come back and do a rafting trip soon.

Joe Taylor

Nice trails. Good place for dogs. Lots of uneven terrain. Not good for strollers or mobility impaired. Beautiful views.

J B

Amazing views, great trails and tons to see. Old and young alike will enjoy it. Wide trails ensure plenty of room for pets to pass other sharing the Trails with you. Snack bar has enough to refuel the little ones to keep them going for a bit longer too. Great place to spend a day

David Eluma

It was refreshing. Nice to go outdoors with no guard rails and explore the site raw.

jake beagle

The C&O canal towpath offers a great place to walk or bike. A quick walk over to Olmsted island will provide striking views of the falls on the Potomac river. Definitely well worth taking the time to visit.

Marina Barchuk

Just WOW ,it's AMAZING ........ I think it's best park in Virginia ...just wish the parking fees ($15 per car- you can use for 7 days ) was lover so can go there every weekend . So many to do ,climing rocks , fun for every age . I will not recommend to bring a stroller , most trails you will be up and down on rocks . Bring food ,blankets, have a whole day enjoying this BEAUTIFUL park .

Nicole Jones

This is the best Park in Northern Virginia I have been too, I especially like the hiking trails and the waterfalls.

Maia Rodriguez

A must see in the DC area. This magnificent place is perfect for the family, for the fitness enthusiast, or for the explorer. Here is what you need to know before going. •Timing is everything. The first time we tried to come here was on Mother's Day 2014. Big mistake. The small roads outside of the park were so jam packed we eventually gave up. Try for less busy times: weekdays are usually less full than weekends. •Military can get in free. •The busiest locations are the overlooks. They are easy to walk to from the Visitor's Center. Each one has a breathtaking view of the rapids. But the trail along the ridge is pretty sweet. It may not be appropriate for strollers, young children, or the elderly as you have to balance around a lot of uneven ground. Loved this. Would definitely return!

Bita Cruz

Great park for dates, solo walks, or family days! There's so many paths to walk and trails to see. Everyone is so nice and they even have a food stand with beverages and food. Scenery was unbelievably

Jenna DeFosse

Great local place to really enjoy the outdoors! Walked along the Maryland side and was pleasantly surprised to see a heron and an eagle!!! We saw lots of turtles too and some deer. Parking can get a little crowded. Trail we walked on was easy and mostly shaded.

Mirwais J. Safi

A very good place for family and friends picnics. It takes $15 per vehicle entry but free for people with disabilities. T Mibile network doesn’t work, please don’t end your trip before arrival to Park as Google map may not load again.

Anthony Cressa

The entire park is great. Overlooks have fantastic views of the white water rapids. Trails for everyone from easy to hard. Gravel trails are good for biking. Picnic areas. Suggest going early cause it fills up quick.

Nikki H

Nature is beautiful. 5 stars, by default. This is my first time in Virginia, and I'm so glad I got to come to this park! A light, easily walkable trail alongside beautiful waterfalls/rapids. A great place to take some stunning photos of the raging waters! I highly recommend coming here if you're in the area.

David Pelky

The park is very scenic. On the Maryland side, the trails are generally flat along the canal with Billy Goat Trail being the exception. This trail will require some scrambling up over rocks. I think the lookout over the falls is nicer on the Maryland side because you get to walk over some of the water in order to get out. Overall, the Great Falls is worth a day trip from DC if you haven't been yet.

OLGA LIDIA

Nice place to walk with your dog 100% family friendly. They charge $15 per car or $30 for a annual pass and you can use in the entry in VA or MD

Amey Karnik

The park is truly great for a quick outing close to DC. You could bring your kayak/ raft along as well, as there is at least one entry point into the Potomac river. Took a couple of points off because there were several lawn mowers and leaf blowers bang in the middle of the day....really odd that diesel/gas powered instruments would be used to blow fallen leaves in a park!

Charles Smith

Very scenic and beautiful place to ride but the large groups of pedestrians blocking the whole trail make it frustrating to say the least. I pretty much wore out my bell and my patience dealing with jerks that don't know how to share the trails. So if your a hiker and reading this, don't be a jerk. If your a biker, be warned, your patience will be tested.

Natraj Ramangupta

I love this park. Nice water flow with soothing waterfall sound.

David Chaudhary

Its an awesome place to go to. The waterfall itself provides a fantastic view and the there are multiple trails to choose from to go for hike depending on how much time you want to spend. Both virgina side and maryland side are good in their own way. Definitely worth the visit. Will go there again. Get annual pass instead of a single day because if you live around that area you are definitely gonna visit again

Josh Alley

Coming from Upstate NY, I really wasn't terribly impressed by Great Falls. It was just kind of underwhelming. More a powerful river than an actual falls. Head to Letchworth or any number of NY state parks and you'll find some truly spectacular falls. Still a nice park and a decent place to visit, just nothing to write home about.

Tilly Lo

I love the River Trail the most. It has many amazing views of the river along the trail. Be careful when on this trail and wear hiking shoes, it is very rocky, and when not paying attention to the trail, it is easy to get off the trail. The rocks are slippery when wet. I have been to this park several times, the falls are the most beautiful this time. The water was clear.

Trenna Alestock

Very clean and a great place to explore/walk around. The park rangers are nice and helpful. The visitors were respectful of the wildlife. Overall a fantastic experience. Planning to take a trip again.

Robbie Shiflett

Beautiful park but not a whole lot to do. Is good place for picnic/barbecue. One downside is the cost has really went up over the years.

Kostadin Kushlev PhD

A wonderful place right next to dc. You will need $10-$15 per car to drive to the park. You could however drive nw a little further to a the picnic area about 2 miles up the main road. It’s free to park there and you will enjoy a wonderful walk in a shaded nature path by the river. Do not swim—it’s one of the most dangerous sections of the river.

Candice DeVaughn

Great Falls is so much fun! Make sure to wear comfortable clothes and shoes. It would be wise to bring a refillable water bottle to stay hydrated as well. There's tables to enjoy your packed lunch. There's parking and bathrooms too. Great Falls also sells food and beverages. I really like the Virginia side but it's beautiful no matter what side and it only takes a moment to see both sides.

Bengt Ljungquist

Perfect for an easy hike with family, the falls are impressive, lots of tables and open space close to the visitor center.

Cory Middleton

My favorite local hike. Billy goat trail a is best done before leg day, it definitely will leave you feeling like you got a solid natural workout. No dogs on Billy goat. Great views, plenty of areas to stop/ rest, weekends get high foot traffic-go early!

Ahmed Kaptan

Great Park to be in. Everything from a calm hike, to some vigorous bouldering. From family Picnic areas to kayaking, there's always something todo here! There's some great cliff jumping spots too(don't quote me on it, it's apparently illegal to swim... )

Eddy Sur

This is one unique place in the DC area that you can come and visit, great for biking, hiking, and just plain having picnic. You will not regret coming here at all.

Patrick Kelsay

Just an awesome place to spend the day. So close to DC, yet so far away. Excellent hiking!

Harsh Ranjan

Easy trails with great views of the falls. Trail 3 is the best one and barely takes 10 minutes to walk from the parking lot. There are picnic benches too.

Kale

Very lovely park with many trails and plenty of parking. The facilities/museum staff are quite pleasant, and the facilities are tidy. The park is even open during rainy days. There are several overlook parts that are very relaxing. As a side note, the Maryland side of the falls appears to have a similar park.

kruthika manoharan

A place so silent, beautiful and humble. You may not know that such wonderful fall is here. You can take a good walk. There is construction going on.

Shawn Alestock

After you get over the fact that it's $15 per car and a trash fee park, you will love it. The beauty of the area's terrain makes for a wonderful hike outdoors. All of the shade the trees offer will make you forget the 90 degree temperatures. The whole trash free thing is kind of annoying though. I understand taking your trash with you, but one cannot even clean up after the other litterbugs who may have left their trash behind because you'll have to carry it all the way home. Outside of that, if it's a great day temperature-wise, you and hoards of other people will enjoy the great outdoors Great Falls has to offer through its few miles of hiking trails.

Anna

The park is clean, easy to access, and breathtaking! I went on a Sunday and it was a little bit crowded but I would love to go back again and try a different trail!

Julien Collaer

Nice falls but overcrowded. Good for starting a trail on both sides of the river or to bring grandma to take a picture. Otherwise staying just on the spot is too few to spend a day.

K A

I went hiking with my cousin last fall. We hiked along the incredible waterfalls and the Amazing View of the Potomac River. It was such a peaceful and tranquil trek for the day. Lots of hiking trails but we didn’t cover all even though we walked for about 6 miles. We had so much fun taking photos with breathtaking views. It was such a Beautiful day and a Wonderful Experience. Great Falls park is truly MAGICAL!!! I highly recommend to all nature lovers, tourists and locals. Oh, by the way, parking is $10.

juan manuel basto muñoz

Great place for everyone, it offers a variety of trails for all people and great views all through out the trails. Highly recommend

shantanu padhye

Great picnic spot for families. There is a 3 mile trail that goes along the banks of the Potomac River with a few scienic overlooks. Ample amount of parking spot. Visitor is open 10 am to 5 pm so plan ahead of time. Dogs are welcome on leash and please make sure to clean up.

Carol Bloomfield

Fantastic day! I saw I walked, I climbed I ran such beauty. My family and I had such an amazing time at the Great Falls. I didn't think I could climb these rocks and see such beauty, but with the encouragement of my family, I did. The Falls are phenomenal

Peter Strauss

Absolutely amazing how the river is like that upstream. Amazing photo taken. I didnt think u had to pay at a national park. That is the surprise part. Also I saw people climbing down to the river where there is a secured area. That's so dangerous. If u c someone doing that say something to the park rangers because it's there for a reason

Jurre Pronk

Very nice views and a lot of fun things to do. There are a lot of information points with info about the history of the falls. The movie was also very clear and fun. We saw some deer while walking through the forest. It was a shame it started to rain, but there are worse things in life. Overall, lovely place.

John Cho

Entran Always enjoy visiting here. Was not at all crowded today.

michaelpa

Beautiful day. Will be back. Maybe bring some more dogs next time.

T. B.

Had a great time talking to the Rangers, beautiful park, just wish we could go in the water.

Jaime Francis

Lots of trails for hiking. Even on a crowded holiday weekend we still found peaceful quiet on the river trail. Towpath and main falls bridges can be crowded but lots of offshoots to find relaxing spots! Go early to avoid traffic and get parking.

Elyse Porter

Love this place! Amazing views just look out for snakes during the warmer months!

john henri Rorabeck

My wife and I love this park! Gorgeous nature and well maintained trails. Always busy, but it’s big enough that it doesn’t feel too crowded. It does costs bit to get in, but it’s worth it.

Logo's Life

Absolutely beautiful! The hike to the falls is very short. Worth a trip but not much else to do in the area.

Going Catty05

Absolutely beautiful here! If you want a good naturey time, go here

Hannah Thompson

Amazing park! The Billy Goat Trail has 3 sections with different levels of difficulty. It's about 2 hours to finish the Billy Goat Trail Section A. It can get busy in after around 12pm, and you find yourself waiting in line in certain areas on the trail. However, there is plenty to see while you wait including views of the Great Falls River and just the general scenery!

Asheesh Kumar

Well managed trails and ample parking and grilling space. A nice fun day out for people of all ages specially families. All the overlooks have decent view of "Great Falls" and are very well manged by Park Service. Visitor center has an auditorium as well where one can watch a short documentry about Potomac river and canal system which was proposed by George Washington to build the intra state trade route which laid the foundation of new states of USA. Vehicle fee is $15 and $30 for a day and annual pass to the park respectively. Please not the park is closed at dusk.

Terri Dennison

It's a Beautiful Place just make sure Your Equipped with the right attire Good sneakers and comfortable clothes,.I seen Many Culters which there Original Dress but Had on Flip Flops...You Definitely need A good Pair Of Sneakers, This Park Does Allow Pets And I understand the ones that live in the area but they where Way Too Many Dogs And this park Gets Congested!! So you have to wait for them to pass or You Hear Their Tired Thirsty Dog Wanting Water Soo Bad Behind You, It was quite Annoying hearing them thirsty and out of breath right behind you,Alot Of Different cultures who want to explore the park but didnt research has on whatever Sandles,Flip Flops, and Taking there senior parents or grandparents on an Adventure!! Whitout knowing you may need to climb some Rocks!! They have Public Bathrooms and a stand where you can buy food but also have a large grilling picnic area where your family can cookout sit and eat,Enjoy some Random Deer running through the picnic grill area grounds as I did today..Lol Everyone was Shook!!! But can take a stroll walk off the pounds they consumed and Enjoy the Water Falls plus trails These trails are not smooth ground they have stones rocks, miny mountains to get Through so Be Prepared.

Sravani c

Nice place to visit and take photos. Only one place to visit and nothing else nearby. Can go on a day to just enjoy the cool air

Matt Reese

Highly recommend the Billy Goat Trail A. The rock scrambling is one of a kind and the views of the Potomac in the river george are amazing. It really feels like you are in a top notch national park.

Zachary Graybill

Ready to enjoy a surprising landscape for this area? Large rapids surrounded by protruding rock formations. Easy trails, hard, scrambling trails. I love this place.

Alejandra Villanueva

One of our favorite sunday hike spots! Trail A is full of fun rock skipping with great views. Make sure to check out the website as weather can close out part of the trails. Is $15 per car for a week pass but if you get there early (7am) there is no attending person and the gates are free to go in.

Tiffany Rupp

A breath of fresh air. Pounding majestic river. We came on the off season so everything was closed but it was free to get in. Olmsted island is wonderful. A beautiful piece of serenity. Take time to just sit down and breath.

James Bond

A beautiful place where you can go relax your mind. We drove 5 hours just to go there and it was worth it. Just one thing they charge $15 for parking which is kinda too much. They should reduce the price which can make Local and tourist come more.

p o

Great place just outside the city for a hike. They have 3 different trails. Billy Goat Trail B is the most challenging and takes about an hour from the actual trail entrance to the end (not including the walk back to your car). Be sure to pack your water. You will also need good shoes. I love this place and go there 2 to 3 times a week. If you are into hiking, you will like it here. The other trails are good for sightseeing for those just looking to enjoy the ambiance!

Lane Boyd

There are lots of great trails out here. You don't even realize that you're right in the middle of the city! For a fun, longer hike, you can park at Riverbend Park and walk along the Potomac.

Naser Shareef

Beautiful scenic park, if you are within an hour of this park, make time to come here. It was raining the day I went and we almost didn't go, but I'm so glad that I did. A truly majestic place of natural beauty!

JustUynn

The scenery is magnificent! The waterfall is very beautiful! Hiking trails are great. Great place to spend the weekend

Jessica Hope Tuma

Beautiful park for walking and exploring. Has a water fountain for dog drinking. Picnic tables, nice walking paths, rock structures. Can be busy.

Sara Akers

Great place to stop and enjoy the view. Short walk from visitor center. All 3 observation decks give a great view.

Edward Rosales

The overlooks are great. The terrain isn't to rigorous. The trails are fun as well. Definitely thinking of going again.

Aisha McMillan

Great Falls is a great mini escape for anyone in the DC area. There's plenty of hiking and picnic areas to enjoy solo or with a group of people. It's a closer retreat than Shenandoah if you want to see beautiful falls and scenery.

joey Albrecht

Lots of trails to go on, and it's all free!!! You can end up trailing for an hour up to 5 hours, fun times!!!! Lots to see, lots of water, trees, and just nature itself. Lots of different activities you can do, just get yourself a map from the front office and ask about different options they have.

Krystle Syms

Beautiful place with lots of scenery. Bike trails are available and dogs are welcome. No trash bins on site, please be sure to pick up after yourself to keep the place beautiful. There are public restrooms just before you head out on the trails. Waterfalls are amazing.

Lindsay White

The road to get to the entrance can be pretty stressful, but the park itself was beautiful! The visitor center has a very informative series of displays and introductory video. The gift shop was quite small, but that's not usually the main reason to visit a park.

C Fisher

Beautiful place to walk. Tow path is awesome for nonstrenuous, Billy Goat Trail is spectacular if you want a challenge, just be sure to bring water, and go early when it isn't hot yet.

Swati Babaria

Kid friendly hikes. No hiking to see waterfall. Three lookouts to see waterfall. Lookout 2 was my personal favorite. We loved doing river trail hike with our daughter. Complete trail is not open. Good park for kids and pets.

Sarah Petri

2/3 main overlooks are great and very accessible. Overlook 1, with the rocky walk, could use tighter railings. Some seemed loose, so use caution. Not many ruins on the Matildaville trail, but take it to the River trail for spectacular views from up high without all the climbing. Gift shop and visitor center could use some more items, but overall, good info, education topography display, with air-conditioning and restrooms down below. Got there 10 a.m. and easy to park.

Broc Ungaro

Just beautiful. Stunning falls. The forest is dense and lush. The rangers were friendly. Bring water and snacks. Only a small concession stand. Porta potties only and no water fountains.

Kara Wagner

Beautiful water falls within easy walking distance from parking lot.

Jackie S Yoon

I like Great Falls so much. The strong water sound of the falls and the great nature view are wonderful and make my stress away. It is grateful that this kind of beautiful nature can be easily accessed from the city life. Because of that, getting more crowded is to reduce the star from 5 to 4. Too much crowds are making impossible to have a moment of mindfulness with the great water sound which used to have. BUT I cannot blame that.. Parking is mostly full. Its ticet is not cheap.

Brittney Hillsbery

It was scenic in parts but mostly a view of trees and all wildlife - super easy hike the trail is almost a paved walkway

Lolita Pollard

We had a great time. We went in October and the weather was perfect. I don’t care for heights but it was gorgeous. If you are going to take small kids please have good supervision. I would strap my infant to my chest.

Chip B.

Awesome place! Almost watched someone fall who went beyond the barriers. Wish that people would just follow the rules.

Suji Mao

The annual pass is 30 dollars and its 15 dollars for 1 car so if your are going to come more than once you should consider getting the annual pass. Another big plus is that by the visitors center there are 3 overlook which all have ramps so people in wheelchairs or strollers can still see the falls easily.

Kristin Hall

Such a beautiful park with great trails. I appreciated that there were bathrooms and water fountains at the visitor center. There was plentiful parking, and there were also accessible overlooks, so most everyone can enjoy looking at the falls. It was crowded when I went, but it didn't become an issue. I'd return. They accept cards, but prefer cash at the entrance.

Nour Kushlaf

Beautiful scenery. Would definitely suggest going there

Sarah B

Beautiful park to spend a day - there are people hiking, walking, biking, rock climbing, kayaking. There are options for every level of physical fitness. The billy goat trail is a good option. There are plenty of fun rocks to explore off the trail (not sure if I’m allowed to say that). Pack a picnic and go spend the day here. You won’t regret it.

F. Robert Ries

Gem of a natural space 20 minutes from the center of the political universe. Gets crowded so be creative in your timing. Do an easy hike along the tow path to Great Falls, starting from the parking lot across from Old Angler's Inn. Or spice it up with a lot of rocky scrambles: make the same trek via the Billy Goat Trail.

J Harris

We were just passing through the area and decided to take a break during our car ride to stretch our legs. The falls are a short walk from the Visitor center. Well worth the time. Would like to have spent more time here. There's much more to explore here than the falls. The National Parks are treasures. Membership are an unbelievable value if you love being in awe inspiring natural beauty. It feeds the soul. Bring water, a picnic, paints whatever makes 'happy' for you. The National Parks just make it even better.

Khalid Hart

Great Falls Park is a great place to spend the day. The trails are clean and well maintained. The views are absolutely gorgeous. As a side effect of that, Great Falls Park stays pretty busy and parking can be a bit of a hassle when it comes to find a spot. But, that was on a weekend visit, I haven't been during the week. The overlooks are nice and overlook 3 is by far the best to take in the power and beauty of the Falls. If you're nearby or have ever wanted to see waterfalls, take a quick trip. You will not regret the experience.

V Viaje

The falls is beautiful, the entrance is only $15 per car. Nice to spend time with family.

Samuel Weeks

Only visited Billy goat trail, but it was a lot of fun. I went with friends had a blast, lots of exercise and pointed jokes at each other.

Marcelo Asmat

nice view of the waterfalls. small park next to it, a good spot for fishing and rock climbing. Follow @theroadthatneverends

Mike Pang

The Billy Goat Trail is a great hike! Went on section A. Lots of people but still found some quiet parts. Beautiful views of the Potomac river all along the way.

Frank Decot

Beautiful national park. It's a short walk to awesome overlooks of the falls. You can hike down stream for more great views high above the river. It can get very busy.

Hariom Singh

We love visiting this park and hiking. The trails are nice, you learn about the history of the area, nice nature center, and the river is fabulous anytime of year. I, personally, love it in the winter when the ice forms in interesting designs or in the early spring when the ice breaks up. So cool!

Drew Keister

Beautiful views and well maintained trails. It is a bit expensive, but the charge is per vehicle so carpool with a friend or family. Currently some trails that are closed for maintenance, but it is possible to work around them.

Kyle Yates

I love going here. Best view is the furthest lookout, but if you really want to feel the waterfall's power, visit the closest lookout. The visitor's center is educational, and AIR CONDITIONED! Also thankful for the food place below the visitors center.

Abhishek Vijayakumar

A really nice park for a day out. The Junior Ranger program there is super fun and informative for Kids so highly recommend doing that if you have kids.

Zahra Aliraqia

Gorgeous place for relaxation. Listening to the water rushing is therapeutic. The restrooms are clean and dont smell. The views are breathtaking. Bring your family and friends, some tea and food, and enjoy the day. $15 entry per car.

Fanny Salgado

Amazing park to go with family. Loved every inch of it. Take sneakers and bug spray. There is space for cooking, they have tables and grills. You will enjoy.

M Z

An excellent national park. Nice hiking trails, with good views of the river and falls. There is a nice visitors center with some good exhibits for children, good explanations of the canal and lock system built earlier, which was quite impressive, and very nice clean bathrooms. Plenty of parking on the day we went. Some of the trails are very easy, and some have moderate rock climbing involved. Some trails were also closed for repairs when visited July 2019.

Stephen Green

Stunning, beautiful, and breathtaking. Amazing views from the Virginia side, and well-kept trails to enjoy so many views. Handicap friendly for those in need, and makes for an easy kids walk. Rangers arw friendly too!

Suhas Chandrashekhara

One of the best places I have been to. It's amazing to spend an evening here. The humungous rock and Creek formations are marvellous. It's a nice place to just walk around or run. It was also fun to actually climb down to the level of water. The drive to the place is also good, with tree covered roads and lush green scenery

Antonio Escobar

A very nice place with plenty of room where you can go and have a large group and reserve some tables. There are several porta-jhons outside for the bathrooms. Nice easy hikes and the parking is plenty and very close to either the picnic areas or the Hikes. The line to get it in the main gate was very long for whatever reason either they have a bad connection to pay for the entrance fee with card or people are not ready to pay. The waterfalls we're very impressive nicer than what I thought they were going to be. This is a very good spot for pictures and very clothes from DC.

Douglas Moyer

Super sweet waterfall, wish I had more time/experience to check out the other recreational parts of the park! Would love to come back and climb

Imma Star

It has been too Many years since I've been here, but like anything this beautiful, you eventually feel the pull/draw at your being telling you to come back/go back. I'll update this post asap after I return to this beautiful place:)

Sean Cottrell

This park is the place to be on a summer weekend. From families picnicking, tour groups visiting the historic falls, or rock climbers repelling down the cliffs. There is always something to do. Staff and volunteers here are all awesome, and you should definitely take advantage of the programming offered! (Also buy the annual pass if you live in the area, pays for itself in 2 visits!)

Jerry Miranda

Spectacular views. Miles of trails. Fun for people of all ages. Bike, run, walk. Plenty to do and see. Crowded on weekends but still worth it. Fees: $15/car per visit or $30 for an annual pass.

I was very disappointed to see people cooking and leaving trash bags on the ground by the trash area and animals eating from it. I hope the NPS take care of the problem and may be prohibit cooking in the area. It will be a disaster if it stays like this. Other than that it's a beautiful part of our country and I recommend seeing it and taking a hike and enjoy the scenery.

Loved the beauty of the falls and trails on the VA side. For the entrance fee..it was a shame that so MANY trails in the park. Were closed. Making the trails open..harder to enjoy/walk/run on. Given the over crowding of tourists. Beyond that issue. Loved Great Falls in VA. Will try out the Maryland side!

Tasbita Reham

It beautiful and inexpensive. Should have more shaded places and food stalls for picnics. No network.

Partha Saradhi Tatikonda

Good place for spending time with family. Enjoyed watching lot of pets around.

This park is a BEAUTIFUL park to go to. The trails are gorgeous (but rather short), and the surroundings are just peaceful. You know that smell when you want fresh air and can just feel the outside? That's this place. To get into the park, you will need to pay a fee of $10 to park (or I believe $35 for an annual pass). If you get there after 11am, the wait is pretty horrendous, and it may take you over 30 minutes (or more) to just get inside the park - that's how popular it is. Parking is sometimes scarce, with parking lots filling up right away (generally closest to the entrance / exit). If you get there at the right time (no traffic), you will absolutely enjoy your time with no absolute stress at all.

Beautiful Potomac river national park that has some great rock climbing and hiking options. It also has a nice dog friendly path as well.

Mileide Lira

Very beautiful! This waterfall is also good for trials.

Stephen-Bernard Callender

It was a beautiful experience. I've been times before, and it's always magical. It's become a place I Now go to think through difficult points in my life or to seek inspiration. It's one of the gems of the DC metro region

Armin Seferagic

It is a pretty nice park, but nothing too special. Costs $15 for parking. There are some nice views and trails, but i don't think it is worth the $15 to park. There is visitors center where you can get good food which is reasonably priced.

We hiked the Billy Goat Trail with a group of friends on a Sunday morning. Wasn't too crowded but definitely had a lot of people out as it was a nice day. Trails were in good shape and clean as always. Only complaint was there was a large group of bikers and the tow path and it became a little dangerous when they fly up behind you to pass.

Patricia Morris

Great day trip for families. Many trails for all level hikers and outdoor people. Beautiful overlooks for great photo opportunities.

Brian Smith

Very pretty. Perfect for a quiet getaway on a Sunday aftrrnoon.

Tom Billone

Great place to relax and view the power of a river. Also great for learning a bit of history

Mina Young Lee

Woke up at 5am to come to the park for sunrise. Opening hours are listed as 7am. It’s now 7:28am. There is a line full of cars waiting for the park to open and the ranger responsible for opening the park is still not here. People are now out of their cars complaining about how this is a common occurrence. Unprofessional and ruining the hopes and dreams of little children to see the sunrise here.

One of the best places I have ever seen. It is really peaceful and joyful. The people who work at the visitor center were very knowledgeable and willing to answer any question about the park and/or its history. I enjoyed listening to them. Also, there is a small shop to get some souvenirs.

Michael Dooner

Great day trip. This place has facilities and is always fun. Perfect picnic place.

Alfredo Martin

I am so happy that we have this place near by D.C. Nature is beautiful. I and my girlfriend love to go for a walk or go for a picnic. There are different trials which are not difficult to walk. I will definitely come back for other trials.

Ahmed Alanazi

It's really good place.. I went more then 4 times there and I am looking for spring to go to this park again and again. It's really good for walking and hiking too. They just need to reduce the cost of entering from 10 to 5 I guess.. Thank you so much.

Christopher Jenkins

Beautiful views and light to intense hiking for all levels of ability. Perfect for family outings.

Sk8John G.

Great walking area with shaded hiking and lots to see. If you go in the fall there is also Paw Paw fruit on the trees.

Rene T

Its a beautiful park. The waterfalls are incredible. Unfortunately its not been well cared for.. ( including the visitors!!!) It was so dirty and there was trash everywhere... the toilets are closed so they have the portable available but it’s almost impossible to get in and survive the smell.. So sad

Gregory Stiller

Great change from hurry up of the District. No problem parking more shade, delightful sounds, cooler breeze. If you've been in D.C. you can unwind here and relax a while. Close by D. C.

Jackie Nusser

Beautiful park with views of the river. Rock climbing, hiking, picnicking, and white water rafting are a few of the activities I’ve seen people doing at this park. Consider not going on holiday weekends or perfect weather days. Once they reach capacity, they shut down the entrance to the park. If you can get in, it’s worth it!

Ronald De Leon

Very nice and clean park with a great view of the Great Falls. Lots of sitting areas and walking trails for the family to enjoy. They have a convenience stand also that sells sandwiches hot dogs drinks and frozen treat near the restrooms. $15 entrance fee per vehicle when entering which isn’t too bad and make sure you have cash to speed up the process and not hold up the line. Overall very nice place for family outing and walk around nature.

Scott Tripp

Great park with great trails. The staff is friendly and everything. Get the year long pass so you can go to any national park for the price of three trips.

So lovely. So close to the city. Yet a world apart. Watching the Potomac river rush through the rocks, twisting, turning, churning with a roar. Amazing. Easy access, easy parking, lots of trails, benches, grills, etc. It's an amazing place.

Valencia Shelby

It is so beautiful!!!! The multiple outlooks allow for everyone to get a nice view of the waterfalls! The last overlook has a really sturdy wheelchair ramp for access to the view. Take cash with you if you want to buy snacks. The current admission fee is $15 per car/$7 per person without a car. $15 isn't bad if you have multiple people and there's also on site parking. The park is pet friendly, just keep your pup on a leash and pick up afterwards. There were so many happy pups! I plan on coming back with my husky if the weather and timing permits. It was 85° out, but the temperature feels cooler the closer you are to the water. Overall, it was money well spent for a wonderful time!

Alicia Hendee

Great for families and people of all activity levels. You can get great photos here. Dog friendly. No wifi services and spotty cell reception.

Neha Pankow

The most prominent water fountain wasn't working (next to the visitor center). Neither were the toilets. This was a very hot day in July. At a national park. We had a couple of little kids with us and had to be wary of broken glass (from bottles) near one of the waterfalls. Although the place was extremely crowded, there was sufficient parking. If you're planning to meet up with someone here, be aware that you may have no cellphone signal, at least through most of the parking lot and visitor center.

Caleb

Absolutely beautiful waterfall!!! The views are amazing and the walk isn't very far. It costs $15 to get into the park but it's totally worth it and you can pack lunch and picknick! There are 3 viewing platforms and two of them are wheelchair accessible. There are also several trails that follow the river.

Veronica McGee

If you don't knowJesus, yes I am going there, go and visit and I dare you talk with Him and then count the ways that He makes himself known. God's finger and hand is evident throughout this entire park. I could boast about my trip but I choose not because my encounter in this park is less then 1/3 in comparison to the encounter I experience each time I visit this park. In this place each year I conqueror a fear with God and I trace His presence surrounding me and my friends. No I'm not high or drunk...just sharing that God the Father of Jesus Christ is real and I'm challenging anyone seeking to know God to go visit and watch how He reveals Himself to you personally... Go visit this park..the Billy Goat Trail A and be prepared to be amazed.

Mike

In northern Virginia this is one of several outstanding parks that offer miles of beautiful trails from the very easy to the very challenging. Great views of the falls and river from many different vantage points. Great place for nature photography.

TrésorS YYY

Excellent spot to picnic and get kids outside, walk through nature and if you lucky, you get wildlife on your way like us. The views of the falls are gorgeous and there are many stations around to walk and view the falls differently. Remember that fees per car are $15 and a single person with no car fee is $7 . There is lot of parking so go ahead and enjoy

Mari Coo

This trail is absolutely gorgeous is definitely very beginner friendly and gives amazing sites in picture taking opportunities. the trail is relatively safe as far as the climb that are in it so you can definitely take kids on the billy goat and they do the restaurant right across the entrance to the trail. If you're looking for a nice trail to start with and you really want to get an I think I would definitely recommend this trail. I went on the Maryland side but I've been told the Virginia side is just as good

Katty Kake

Beautiful! We took the longer path. It was rough terrain considering we had an older person with us and several wore the wrong kind of shoes. If dressed appropriately, this is an awesome trail.

Blake Baker

Easy to get to gem that is often ignored by tourists. The trail is paved and walking is easy.

Angela Croll

Such beauty. Everytime I go I love it even more. So pretty.

Alina Kazmenko

This is a beautiful park with several view points! You can take a trail along the water and enjoy being in the shade. You can go to the view points and watch waterfalls which are gorgeous. However This place definitely gets busy when the weather is good.
