Some maintenance from the Park Service is in order here. Open for tours on the weekends from noon till 4pm. The grounds are open to wander though its not a huge area, more like a large yard. Clara Barton's home is directly against to Glen Echo Park. The National Park Stamp cancellation is in the Glen Echo Park visitor center. Take some time and research the history before you visit, for the most part you're on your own.

Interesting place to see, but renovations are still underway. You can tour the house but the furniture is not there due to the construction. Otherwise a good opportunity to learn about an American hero.

A very interesting site, I feel this place deserves more attention. Clara Barton was an outstanding woman and could serve as a great role model for young generations.

This is an awesome place to visit! Fun for the whole family. I come to Glen Echo Park for the awesome dancing, but it's always enjoyable to walk through and see the historical sites, carousel, etc.

The Clara Barton site is not for everyone. History buffs will enjoy the visit. The home is in the process of being updated. The furniture has been removed. The National Park Ranger gave an outstanding presentation on Clara Life. The house is open on Friday/Saturday for guided tour. Highly recommended for people who enjoy history.

It's currently closed for renovations but it's a great place to visit when it's open.

It's closed for renovations in 2017, but on our previous visit, it was very interesting to learn about not only what a woman was able to accomplish in her day and age, but of how the American Red Cross of today came into existence, or that the basic First Aid kit was probably planned out and packed right here! And for those of us who volunteer for the ARC, it's just that much more meaningful to visit!

Excellent Tour. Our Group learned so much about Clara Barton. The Female Ranger on Duty was absolutely Excellent. She answered all of our questions with much knowledge. Great History Lesson. And it was FREE. Imagine that something for Free yet and you learn something too. Would recommend to any age group.

An important place, sadly now closed until further notice, and the house seems a little abandoned. However, the place has some spirit and it's just next to Glen Echo.

Interesting park telling story of awesome woman. Recently reopened after renovations and furniture is not yet back in the house, as work continues. Rangers give good tour regardless. Parking is free and easy plus right by C & O so easy to enjoy outdoor activities after 45 minute tour.

The Clara Barton National Historic Site is a delightful gem, made more delightful by the Park Service guide. The house tour begins with the history of Glen Echo MD, followed by foundation of the American Red Cross, and finally Clara Barton who started the American Red Cross and lived in the historic house. The building served as home, Red Cross headquarters and warehouse. Under renovation, none of the furniture is in place, but photos provide visitors an idea of how everything looked. The history was richly detailed and covered multiple layers of Clara Barton's humanity. The guide answered questions thoughtfully, and, without editorializing, often drew parallels to present day issues. Without his presentation the building would have been a lifeless shell, but he energetically described its occupants and significance to the extent we could imagine conversations and visitors and the busy hum of life. We walked away filled with new respect for a remarkable American, a conscientious humanitarian, and a woman ahead of her time.

This is such an amazing historical site. The Home and Office of Clara Barton after the Civil War. Such a great thing that they have managed to preserve the entire facility as it was when Barton lived here.
