So sad.... Got married on that circle in 2017... Theres no beach no more... I hope they are able to fix it... Love that place!
This is my absolute favorite place in the Chicagoland area to watch the sunset. I don't care where you are coming from, I promise you that the drive is worth it!
Quiet beach not crowded
Very nice and clean
Sad that we can't go in the beach beautiful sunset
Pretty park. Nice for a walk along the river or on the shoreline boardwalk.
Beautiful views of Lake Michigan!
Nice place but not maintained. Simms that beach will be closed soon because it disappears and people helping to do so by destroying the sand dunes.
It used to be 5 stars but, with no beach and all the erosion, it may only 3 stars
A nice place to stop if you're in the area there's pretty much no beaches for swimming but some nice views of Chicago and the waterfront. Also some nice hiking trails on a paved path through the dunes and along a canal
Beach was closed but still had a great time
Gorgeous ❤️ place..
Lovely place to walk around the lake and can see the Chicago skyline across the water.
Lovely waterfront walking paths with views of the lake. I took a chance and stopped here with my dog while traveling through the state. As far as I could tell dogs are permitted around the walking paths and pier but not in the beach area.
I truly love it. It is so beautiful
Great sunset's can be seen from this location
Despite the fact that the weather and time have destroyed the walk.Another convenient way to enter has been built. The water is amazing here,it's warmer and seems cleaner and clear. It doesn't get very congested. They have a nice consession stand and tables to eat it you bring your own food. The landscape is beautiful.A very nice beach to visit ,despite the renevations that need to be made again.
It's a shame but the whole Lake front Is tore up no beach boardwalk is all tore up Sad there was a great place to go
It is a great place to go but the beach is pretty much gone. We need to do something about it in order to do more fun things out on the portage beach.
Just love the view, you can almost see Chicago
Small beach but great for sunset
The beach is gone :(
Great family location
This place is in a sad state with all the sand gone. Tears to my eyes.
Great view, and great place to get away from everything.
Great fishing spot if the steel mills could stop dumping deadly chemicals in the rivers
Great place surrounded by heavy industry It was reclaimed industrial area
Omg what a hidden lil gem! And seeing the Chicago skyline across the lake was absolutely breathtaking!! It took us a minute to figure out how to get there but not very hard to find. Very much worth the stop along a long road trip when traveling along interstate 90/94! I will be returning sometime to show the rest of my family this beautiful spot! Although it was sad to see some of the paths were completely taken away from the water level rising but at the same time it put perspective on the effects we have done to our planet.
Refreshing
Loved it
Very nice, clean.
It's a very nice location. The beach was wonderful even having to walk a bit downhill to get to it. There was also a great trail to walk along. Good for photography.
Awesome sunset. Lightening and Chicago in the distance.
Best place to go for a walk in NWI.
Nice place to visit, we go there often
Nice place, good walking trails.
Great place to kayak, fish or swim. Modern facilities with sweeping views of the lake.
Great time. Nice sunsets. Good walking surface.
Fantastic place for people who love exploring God's wonderful creation.
Beautiful veiw
Beautiful sunset very peaceful
Relaxing place to go and escape the problems of life and enjoy a walk on the lakefront and the riverwalk.
Awesome views! I would definitely recommend visiting to take in the lake. Just be warned that getting there can be a little confusing. Once there it's worth the trip.
This is a nice little park, it is easily accessible by car. It has two electric vehicles chargers which is very nice!. It has nice views and you can get a very nice view of the city of Chicago on a clear day. I see many fishermen fishing along the shore but I would not recommend keeping and fish from here because it is very close to steel mills water discharges!!. It has a venue for events, restrooms and few vending machines for a drink. Overall it is a nice park to check out if you are a local !
Beautiful and an awesome food vendor in building
Very nice way to watch the sunset if you're not into the whole sand thing. Very clean as well. They do close the gates at dusk though.
Beautiful setting! Very pleasantly surprised considering I thought we took a wrong turn! Worth checking out for sure. I bet it's really beautiful in the warmer weather!
A hidden treasure very beautiful
Beach access is terrible and the stretch of beach is small.
Nice place to stop and visit.
Pretty, not crowded... Friendly people, dog friendly too
Great for the views and a picnic but no beach to swim at.
This park is a little treasure, hidden behind the steel mills. Its one of the most easily accessible lakefront locations. It's easy to drive-in and park to make use of the walking trail, fishing pier, or beach front. The beach has had some erosion-related issues, but hopefully it will be replenished soon. It's a great stop, a little hard to find, but worth it.
I would give it a 5 star rating, but for the time being no one can use the beach. Because massive waves from winter storms destroyed access to the beach. I doubt if the Army Corps of Engineers will be able to repair the damage this year. The river walk and pier are still usable.
Great memories as a child catching my first ever catfish here, over 15 years ago. Miss this place
Great view of the water. The beach area is rather small.
The beach is basically gone. Pier is very nice
This park has a beautiful view and great facilities. Unfortunately because of erosion, the walkway out to the beach was closed, but were able to hike a short bit over the dunes and climb down to the beach area. The kids loved it!
Sunset..so breath taking..love the beach!
Beautiful! My kids and I love walking here and watching the lake.
Beautiful scenery!
I love it so peaceful
What a waste of time, lake front was food while it lasted.
Beautiful place! Very clean also!
This seems to be a quiet place and the walk along the river provided a look at some of the local wildlife
Fishing is great here..Nice and peaceful
No beach & Riverwalk is closed you can still go for a walk thru the dunes or bike ride
The beach is not that large but there is a small pier that stretches out on the lake which is great for fishing or taking in a beautiful lake sunset.
Beautiful area, family friendly, and lots to do.
Meh. Trash filled water, inadequate trails, steel plant right next door. Do yourself the favor and see lake Michigan from Wisconsin.
This place is nice.
Beautiful scenery and has a great restaurant named twisted citrus it's really good
Beach closed due to dangerous area
Fun and free
I love it here, it's very beautiful, clean and is a great place to swim!
Beautiful and Tranquil place we go here a lot in the summer and it has a nice sunset
It was pretty cloudy today, but it was still quite lovely. It's impressive to hear of what it was like in the before they cleaned it up. However, all the steel mills are still nearby. With it being so cloudy out, it seemed a lot of the factory smoke was prsent. You couldn't see it, but you smelled it. It was a little hard for me to breathe and I am healthy, so keep this in mind if you have somebody that has trouble breathing take this walk. It is an easy walk from the parking lot and it is neat that you can see Chicago from this location. It was me seeing all the crashing waves because it made it feel like I was at the ocean.
This beach has definitely declined since we last visited a few years ago. The parking and facilities are still very nice (which is the only reason I gave it any stars), but the beach itself is in really bad shape. The trails to get to it are washed out / roped off, and parts are the original trail have fallen and are almost completely underwater (see sunken circular piece). Unfortunately there was no clear way to get to the water nor was there a place for my daughter to play in the beach sand. We ended up leaving after a few minutes playing in a small sand area up by the building.
Watched the sunset. Very clean and volunteers there were very kind and informative. Nice place.
Nice small beach and riverwalk nestled between residences and industry. Worth a stop.
It's nice for swimming or a walk near the dunes
Its a beautiful area. Enjoyed going there. Just make sure you don't have problems walking
Great views, nice restroom. The lake destroyed the beach access and the beach, but there are places to walk.
It's a nice place to go stretch your legs for a moment along the water's edge. It's very small, the longest we've stayed is about 30 minutes. The restroom's are clean, spacious, climate controlled, and handicap accessible. It seems to be a safe area, they have a snack bar that is open seasonally. It is dog friendly.
This is a great place to go for a walk look at the lake and fish
Undesirable beach. Nice pavilion and walk along lake to see a lighthouse.
Beautiful Day!!
It's a beautiful view, though the Riverwalk is very short and doesn't have the nicest views
My wife and I enjoy going out to the Portage Lakefront and Riverwalk. We are so lucky to live close to Lake Michigan and really enjoy the park.
Great view!! Love it there
The dunes was a great place to visit and lake Michigan was great also
Nice trails, river walk. Good fishing areas. Beautiful lakefront.
Amazing!
Nice lakefront. Great walking trail for people and dogs. It's a clean and interesting place to hang out.
Very solid spot for peace and quiet.
Very peaceful
Amazing beach and waterfront area. Great place to go fishing, swimming, kayaking, or boating. Just off the shores of nasty Chicago
It's a little Oasis in Portage, nothing I right here can do it justice. A brand new food bar opened up recently, check it out on the weekends the food is all natural and very well-crafted. The scenery is off the hook.
Great place to hike and see lake Michigan
Just a nice place to watch a sunset or have a picnic or fish off the shore.
Love taking my dogs to walk the trail.
Beautiful, but no beach!!!
Under repairs
Nice place to chill!
I enjoy coming for walks. Also fishing, I caught my first fish of the year here.
Great area to defuse and reflect.
Fun! Smelled bad
favorite place in nwi
Beautiful!!
Beautiful and relaxing. Nice sunsets & friendly people.
Very nice and relaxing
The lakefront at Portage is a gentle (at least today it was) heart freeing place. The walk down the pier was energizing to us. The beauty of the big lake stretching out before us all the way to the Chicago skyline was awe inspiring. The number of people who were out for a walk themselves showed me that this is a meaningful place tore people than just me.
This is a really neat spot if you like scenes of nature reclamation. The overlooks have fallen into the water and the bars along the walkway have been destroyed by ice and thaw. It has a very apocalyptic feel to it. The new canal walkway is pretty cool too, it has an audio tour you can take if you bring your phone. It's not a long walk either way but it's pleasant.
I would receive anyone to stop by this beautiful gem in NW Indiana. The views are amazing especially when sun starts to set. The beach can be tricky to get to but worth it. All I can say is that if you want a nice relaxing evening to watch sun set this it place.
The river walk is a short loop but half of it is looking at the steel plant across the river. The river itself is fairly polluted. I would not recommend coming to the area. There are plenty of much nicer areas in the national park.
Nice place to walk and see the lake. Small beach down a kinda step but short dune. Bathrooms and facilities are nice and clean but no fancy environmental features.
Cold and the beach, my favorite swimming hole has eroded
Awesome! Must see!
Nice place to catch a sunset
Peaceful and relaxing.
An amazing place with beautiful view of the lake. Gives peace of mind and takes away all the stress
Beautiful! Windy days and you will likely find surfers too!!
Nice place. Some places they have blocked off though. Not sure why that is,
Wish they would repair what needs repaired...
Clean facilities and a good view of the lake front.
Beautiful dunes nice path. Love the view from the pavillion you can see the city of Chicago downtown outline. Just amazing and peaceful
Love the natural beauty of this place. Fun for all!
Can see Chicago skyline from here!!
Lake front was very relaxing minus the bugs
Beautiful but not enough seats. Very long walk for the handicapped
It.s great to relief stress
Wonderful place at sunset. I liked knowing the police are present, just in case of an emergency
It is beautiful.
Lovely place to visit you can actually see Chicago from afar.
Awesome scenery absolutely gorgeous beach area and fishing. For our family we loved it.
Nice place to fish, but no swimming due to erosion
I love going here
Nice place to go for a walk at sunset
Great place to spend the day either at the beach area or just out for a walk, even fishing is awesome here
Sooo beautiful!! Def. A must see
Nice place to connect with nature. Sad that the beach has eroded so much, but still a nice place to visit
The premier place to view Lake Michigan in Portage. Stunning sunsets over Chicago. Bring a picnic lunch or dinner! No beach now due to the high lake levels but the mayor is working on that.
A wonderful place to visit throughout the year. In summer for the great sun & sand, in winter to see the frozen lake and in fall & spring and throughout the year to see both resident and migrating bird for which I go there!
Great day to see the
Gorgeous sunset over lake
This place is just going downhill
Very nice clean restrooms. Beautiful view, nice dunes to climb and it has picnic tables too.
Nice walk nice beach
It's a beautiful area on the shores of Lake Michigan, frequented by the nicest most friendly people in a calm and serene setting!!!!!!!!!
Great spot for any of the Four Seasons nestled in amongst all the heavy industry of Northwest Indiana!
Sad no beach left. Seems like its not kept up like before. One of my fav spots.. Not so much anymore.
So beautiful today!
Love this place so much n is beyond peaceful there ....love 2 fish here!
The city of Portage needs to do something fast the beach is almost gone lots of erosion going on.
Nice the food was good the seagulls were horrible.
Nice place to fish and great views
