REVIEWS OF Illinois Beach State Park IN Illinois

It would be impossible to give this park anything less than 5 stars. It's endless beauty continues to amaze me with each visit. I venture this park at least three times a week for it's beautiful trails that are filled with breathtaking plants and wildlife that you can't find anywhere near. Its majestic lake so captivating. I could never live to far from lake Michigan.

Kyle Malone

The campground is a little dated, but it is still well maintained and worth a visit. We really enjoyed our camp site and short hike to the beach. The lake was freezing and exhilarating for a swim!

Val Badour

Beautiful state park. Gorgeous views of Lake Michigan. Very clean. Flush toilets and showers if you need those amenities. Playground, bike trails/hike for miles. Tent, trailer, and Rv sites. I have been coming here for at least 15 years. During the week it is very quiet. The weekends are usually booked solid. Make a reservation during the summer. Open almost year round. Great place if you are an RV traveling through the area.

Rachel Berry

It's fine. It's not a great beach or campsite. The hotel restaurant is absolutely terrible. The camp had a ton of vehicle traffic, even at night. There were groups camping in the non-group campsite, and they were super loud. Also some of the staff at the camp we're really rude. The bathrooms were gross at the campsite.

As far as what Illinois has to offer in terms of natural beauty, this place ranks amongst the highest. Long stretch of coast with a trail, picnic tables and camping. Decently priced/rated resort/hotel. It's not too shabby at all. Beautiful blue water. Lovely pebbles on the beach. Lots of trees. Relaxing atmosphere. I've seen some sand dunes but nothing too big. It's not what I would call a must see if you're from somewhere that offers plenty of natural beauty. But if you're stuck in this area I recommend coming here often.

Winter Dodge

Beautiful place got a good camping spot by the lake and beach houses. Bathroom and showers were pretty clean. Didn't see any soap but they did have a hand dryer. The campsite are pretty spacious and your neighbors arnt to close. The beach is a rock beach but not unbearable to walk on. Aventually the rocks disappear when you swim. The water is beautiful and not to cold.

David Liao

Wonderful nature preserve, lotsa wildflowers this year even in August due to rainfall s this year 2019

Louis DiFilippantonio

This is a nice place to spend A-day walk around breathe in some fresh air look around and just relax. As exactly what we did walk around they have bathroom line amenities and things to see they have a novelty shop things to look at him by. But we went their for just a little R and R just a stretch our legs just to enjoy the sights on a summer beautiful day

Anna Armenta

Staff were very courteous and rooms were very clean. Always fresh towels and beds made, no problems with anything missing.

Lino Melchor

Plenty of Parking, open areas for playing ,grilling and pet friendly (must be leashed) .

Jacinta Cruz

The beach is not great but is nice and enough for catching a bit of sun, fresh air, a sunrise or a sunset! The place is great for a walk or simply to rest. The water and the beach are not clear and clean as they should. The parking lot is very big and there is a florest on the sides of the beach. Good area to picnic and relax, with family or alone.

Erik R

The girls in the campsite to sign up to save a site for first come first serve are rude and dont know what they are doing. I was just there about 10 minutes ago and they said i cannot get a site cause i dont have all my camping stuff...why?? I am just trying to get on the list!

Tevs S

Loved it! Never heard of it until a friend mentioned it! So so beautiful! Great form picnic, walk on the beach, playing in the park, or just grilling.

Timothy Jorgenson

Awesome! It's been too many years since I've been here. Fantastic. Knowledgeable employees with good information.

Jessi Bono

Breathtaking- that a lake can be so vast. Sounds silly, I know. This was the first time I had seen this "ocean" of a lake. So glad I got to have this view from my hotel room during business travel. This little pleasure goes a long way.

Jacob A

I really like the walking and bike trails. Toilets need some attention.

Bob Haines

I like the nature aspect. There's lots of trails you can walk or ride your bicycle on. It's close to the lake. So close to Lake you may need a jacket sometimes when it's a normally warm day out.

Caleb Weiner

The beach is eroding away and the concession stand has been closed going on 10 plus years. The campground has suffered without funding the sites aren’t bad but the bathrooms/showers look like they should have been renovated 15 years ago. Had one of the employees stop by and tell Us we couldn’t have more than two cars at our site we had two friends stop by for s’mores and the 10 sites on either side of us were open so it wasn’t like we were taking someone else’s spot and it wasn’t late maybe 8pm told us they had to go park in visitior parking on the other side of the park our friends stopped and checked in and no one told either friend that...Been staying here for a long time over the years beautiful state park right on Lake Michigan lots of potential and nice place to stay but seems to be hurting and could Be managed better.

Vanessa Reinoehl

Gorgeous area by Lake Michigan. Get a day pass to the fitness center and pool. Inexpensive and usually very few people

victoria ramirez

Has a nice paved trail that goes right next to the water. Walk by old closed beach bathrooms and shelters. Nice camp sites with a park, they sell fire wood, and both vault toilet bathrooms and comfort station type bathrooms.

Sally Harland

Beautiful park located right on Lake Michigan. We had a handicapped site. Bathrooms were clean. Our ranger and camp hosts were friendly and helpful. Very quiet and peaceful!

Eddie Coolcat

I love the beach I grew up on the lake. And always love just driving down and watching the waves thinking about my childhood growing up there . I love the winter time expecially when the waves crash over the rocks and freeze in mid-air that is too cool. It's a great place to camp the Rangers are nice the showers are clean for the most part for I camp there a couple times a year with the kids

Mary p

First time here and found spot furtber down beach to relax. Picnic area was large and lots of people using it. Area seems well taken care of.

A. Barbarian

Wonderful experience, the water was CCCCCCOOOLLLLDDDDD!!!! Everything you need is just outside the gate. Groceries, laundromat, rite aid, McDonalds. Delightful campgrounds with water, 30amp electrical for your RV camper. Fire pits at each campsite. firewood and ice for sale there.

Megan Hird

Unfortunately very run down with scary abandoned buildings on the beach with pot hole filled bike trails. The park office and nature center are closed on weekends?? The dune trail is beautiful and this could be a great destination with much needed repairs done.

Colie Gatewood

The beach was clean and, in spite of the off and on raining, was unusually dry! It was my first visit here and it surely didn't disappoint. So beautiful and tranquil I almost didn't want to leave.

merin Mathew

It was calm and not so crowded place when I went, water was clean

Cassandra Foster

We have stayed here many times. The park is not being kept up. Bathrooms and showers get 1 star. Sites are not kept up and the grass which covers everything is not cut and full of mesquetios and clover. Bees love clover so don't go bare foot. The up side is you are right there on beautiful, amazing, awesome, Lake Michigan! I'm a lover of The Great Lakes! Adding on to yesterday's review. Nothing here is taken care of after 5 nights here we got up before 6 to a worker telling us we needed to move our truck off the weeds and onto the gravel. Problem was couldn't tell where the gravel was because it was covered with weeds. Won't be coming back here!

cappy316316

This place is awesome! Not only is it an amazing location but the staff here is awesome. I had a minor issue with my room (no fault of the staff) and Jason with security was there to help me all the way. Jason along with Dawn Marie and Melvin were super understanding and more helpful than I could have expected. To their bosses...they all deserve an acknowledgement and a raise! All three were so friendly and accommodating. I cant saw enough about them and the entire staff. As a wedding guest I had a great experience and will certainly return not only to the beach but to the hotel as well for the simple fact that these employees looked out for me as I were their family. Thank you Jason, Dawn Marie and Melvin, and to ALL the staff for such a great night and for treating your customers the way you do!!!

Camped in a tent with my kids for over a week in late July 2019. Gorgeous beach and the tent sites were nicely laid out, spread out and large. Staff is helpful and friendly. Some of the best bike and hiking trails I have been on. Some down sides that were ok, but need work. Bathrooms need to have a Spring cleaning and then cleaned on a regular better. Fly and mosquito fans at the door of the bathrooms with some fly tape, spray or a zapper inside would also help. Nothing worst than getting eaten alive while taking a shower or going to the bathroom. There is no dishwashing station at the campground. Really need maybe two with hot water. I know some other campers had to move their tents and campers after it rained because the site flooded. Would be helpful to know which flood in case it rains when checking-in. I would have been very upset to get flooded out and move all the stuff I have and not have been told my campsite floods. Lots of wildlife... Raccoons, skunks, coyotes, and the massive amount of bugs. Bring lots of repellent and lockup your food/garbage. This is where a fish cleaning and dishwashing station would help. Walked out of my tent at 2 in the morning to find a pack of raccoons licking my dirty dishes. They wouldn't leave for half an hour as I'm getting eaten alive by bugs chasing raccoons up trees. But, overall a great experience and will be back. Would love to see some improvements though, for this is a magical, gorgeous place.

Renee Johnson

Several big parking lots with ample beach space to lay in the sun. Beware, the beach has tons of rocks in the sand about the size of golf balls. Additionally when you walk in the water it is very rocky for about 8 feet and hurts your feet big time! Wear some kind of swim shoes with tough bottom soles. There are bathrooms and plenty of grassy areas with trees for picnics. No lifegards. But it is free!

Binod Kumar

Nice small place for spending time with family. The beach area is very small but kids enjoy a lot. There is enough room for barbique and party in the vicinity. Overall a nice place to spend weekend and its free of cost with ample parking space.

Lee Swanson

I was in the south end of the beach where I think there was a bit more nice sand. The water was nice and clear but cool and the weather was perfect. Plenty of parking and plenty of space on the beach for a lot of people.

Wayne Bisaillon

Not a bad time. Good scenery. Sadly not very well maintain by our fine state of Illinois.

Dean Johnston

Never realized how big the place is was really fun seeing all the people at the beach rode my bike through the whole lake front wonderful ride.

Steve Taft

There are 2 big signs that says no alcohol yet people drink all day long and blast their music. ( I had my kids there) and if you try to call the managment nothing gets done. They turn a blind eye if you complain about a " regular" all I wanted was to enjoy the time with my family but the alcohol and loud music ruined it please do not go here.9 o'clock music regulations aren't kept or any rules enforced.not a family place

Taylor A

Definitely a peaceful beach, but not very much else. There is quite a bit of rocks in the sand....or should I say there is quite s bit of sand in the rocks. It's hard to find a nice area to lay down a towel or blanket, especially when it's crowded. But nonetheless, it's still serene and you can see the Chicago skyline in the distance. I just wish there was more amenities as far as food and drink, boat rentals, etc. Actual beach attractions. But I suppose you can get that elsewhere. If you're looking for a nice relaxing time by the water however, this is the place to be

Joanna Pahlow

Good camping spot, saw deer, easy walk to the beach /leke from the park. Did see raccoons in trash, but park is clean. No water or sewer at sites, just electric. Some lots flood and they close them. Verizon cell coverage 2 bars.

Therese Hulsey

Large camping sites, large fire ring with cooking grates at each one, didn't realize my site was going to back to a swamp so mosquitoes were atrocious but what else can you expect when you're camping. Easy access to the beach, which is nice and relatively clean, but walkways are currently under construction. Quiet during the week. Bathrooms and showers are better than expected. Lots of wild animals so don't leave your food unguarded even for a firewood run. Raccoons got into my cooler and took bites out of my meat and stole my package of chocolate bars and unzipped my cooler bag and ripped open the package of my kids lunchables. Crafty lil things. Oh well, my fault!

Vicki McGlinsey

We camped here while we were at the RV show. It's not a bad place but it's definitely Rundown. I couldn't speak to any of the facilities but I remember that the "office" was a trailer with a cooler in front of it for ice. It probably would have been a lot nicer if they had bothered to mow it but the mosquitoes were so horrendous we could not even sit outside. For the price I would have expected it to be a bit nicer but for a day trip it probably wouldn't be bad if you bring lots of mosquito spray.

Daryl Carson

Called beforehand to make reservations and was told that they didn't take reservations. So I arrived at the campground and paid for 3 nights. I asked about availability beyond the 3 nights, if I decided to stay. I was told, "Oh yes, that would be no problem as long as I came in before noon on my departure date and let them know." So three days later I went in to extend another 4 days, and I was told that I could only stay 1 more night on that site because someone had RESERVED that spot. But I said I was informed that they didn't take reservations. She say well we don't by phone, but you can on the website. I told her that would have been good information to have had when I first called. I also told her that I had been informed that extending my stay 4 more days would not be a problem. She says "Oh you can stay, just not at that campsite. You'll have to come see what sites are available and MOVE each day to another site." Seriously? I have to break camp, a move every day?!?!?! That is ridiculous

Oscar Moreno Ramos

Well... It was fine, not great, not awful, just ok

Marcos Ruiz

Dont miss out on this Beach. It's a great place for long walks, running even bycycling. It's well maintained and supervised. There isnt any attractions besides the hotel near it. However, There is alot of room for a cookout of sorts.

Tetiana Arsentieva

Our family favorite place. We love to visit it at late summer/early fall season when the lake's water is warm enough to enjoy to swim in wild water. And it's not only the reason there are so many activities to do! Very recommend for anybody for any activity with fresh air.

Imelda Rodriguez

Beautiful place for relaxing, no noise, no people and not too much traffic. Like the real paradise if you want/need time out of the city. Do not think to much and start driving in that direction, you won't regreat. The weather did not allow me to visit around but ASA the weather gets better I will check this place again. Hiking and going around sounds peaceful and great to stop and pray, sing and meditate. 1 hour driving from big city Chicago.

Gavi Diaz Vazquez

It is such a lovely beach just make sure you have wet shoes since it's a rocky beach

J Pratt

I don't love it, and I don't hate. This place was so much better growing up as a kid. I wish it would have grew into something special. You think being a "state beach" that would be more exciting things to do there. I also wish it was more dog friendly.

William Bosch

On a weekday afternoon this was a great spot. Very clean, great bike/walking path. Easy access and a lot of parking.

Ryen

There is always a lot of people here, but I took my nephew and we played on the shore peacefully. This is a great beach to take rocks from.

Mr. Anonymous*.*

Really nice and clean gotta say, even though resort staff guy was kind of a drill staff Sargent. But besides that, great!

andrea fury

I wish it would be closer to me but ..... huge park, well kept trails .. lots of wildlife .. ticks everywhere but hey you are on their territory

Bree Richmond

I was very excited to visit because it was recommended by many but not one person said anything about the mass amount of rocks on the beach and in the water . I would highly recommend buying double enforced water shoes or your feet with be in extreme pain by the end of the day . Nice beach though .

C. P.

We went to the North Unit area of the beach today with our kids. The beach part was fine and fun. Unfortunately, the changing area with bathrooms was horrible, and that's even with the understanding that it's just an outhouse. Absolutely filthy and unusable. Then when we came back from the beach towards our car, we tried to rinse off with the outdoor showers outside of the bathrooms, and neither shower worked. It was definitely a frustrating experience to say the least.

Alan Thompson

Trails need alot of love and rangers need to stop harassing everyone for stepping off a trail.

Jodi Dessellier

Sites are nice and big. Rangers are not the nicest we have meet. People drive way to fast throughout the park! Bathrooms needs to be paid more attention to.

Christopher Fedak

Really a nice place to be for the weekend. We rode our bikes up from north Chicago and camped for 2 nights. Very fun trip. Only thing keeping me from 5 stars was how annoying they were in not letting us have 3 small tents at our site. We had no car and only our bikes to travel in and out with, we took up a small amount of space but had to only have 2 tents at the site. Meanwhile we were surrounded by huge campers jumbo tents and up to 2 cars per space. So 2 of us would have to squeeze into a 1 person tent? Ridiculous...

Dennis Broom

Learn a lot in 1 day! Enjoyed the experience of walking the trails and the beach

Beth Sandy

Been coming here since I was a kid now have the pleasure of returning with my son! Fair pricing, spacious sites, not too close to your neighbors, backyard access to lake Michigan view and beach. Bike paths, small playground for little ones, wood and ice sold there, nice fire pits, water pumps spread out throughout campgrounds, bathrooms and showers. Dogs friendly too! Fun times. Peaceful and quiet

Rachel Storlie

Love this beach! Quiet, peaceful short walk along Lake Michigan. Bike trails connect to it. Easy parking nearby. I feel like this is a hidden gem as we only saw 2 other people. We attempted Indiana Dunes National Park to gain access to the beach but it was a 1 1/2 hour wait just to park and $12 per out of state vehicle. IMHO, skip the line and head to this more remote, intimate beach on Lake Michigan.

Colin Simpson

Could be such a much better place to camp. I hear they will get 30 million offer next year's to improve the land. Campsites are fairly well taken care of. Beach is eroding and needs some help. Some old buildings on site need to be removed or updated. A quick getaway from the City just an hour or so north.

Linnea Lindstrom

the beach was rocky which hurts your feet but what can you do about it. just wear slides or flip flops but it's a very pretty beach. didnt stay the night, just went for the beach.

K K

This State Park is in dire need of TLC. I've stayed in their campground 5 years ago and loved it. It has fallen in disrepair. The sites are overgrown. There were so many biting flies during the day and mosquitoes starting at dusk that I found it hard to go out of the camper, even liberally spraying with OFF. I was beyond miserable. The bathhouse stalls and showers were never cleaned. The same dirty footprint on the shower wall was there all week. The shower curtains were torn and each stall's curtain was only held up with 2 or 3 hooks, the rest were ripped through. I never saw any park personnel except in check in booth. No one out walking or driving through campground and I was there for a week! If I hadn't had reservations to multiple activities in Milwaukee I would've pulled up stakes after 1 night. There was multiple families on our site when we arrived at 3pm (check out) still fully set up and grilling! When my husband told the office personnel they said they would send someone over. We addressed the issue ourselves and they moved all their things to the site next to us and continued eating! A park personnel drove up an hour later and told us as we were setting up that we should've been out by 3. I pointed to squatters on site by us and explained situation. He addressed them from his truck and drove off. We never saw any one again and they stayed another hour. I will NEVER be back!!

Jennifer Huckleberry

This really has a lot of amenities, you should use them. Disappointed by the size of the room and no balcony for $175 (AAA cost). Decent view of lake from room 214. They has complimentary bicycle rentals with a room and you can explore the park.

Juan Cruz

Beautiful and relaxing. Lots of parking space and a very clean beach. Our kids had a blast. Downfall... No bathrooms

Robert Kerans

Secluded beachfront resort hotel. Quiet comfortable and a nice place to sit back and relax

Heather Lane

Everything about the campground was lovely: clean bathrooms, nice size, amenities, close to lake, well taken care of lots. However, the two nights we stayed in June, there was NO ENFORCEMENT of quiet hours. Loud music, singing, yelling, dance parties, lights, etc were tolerated both evenings. With small children in a tent, it ruined our opportunity for rest. We talked with the individuals and the office but noise levels were unacceptably high a second night well past 2am, with no sight of park security as promised. This sadly ruined our experience as we only slept a few hours each night.

kitty4kat1

Beautiful park to stay at. Very clean, secure with Rangers patrolling thru the night. Loved it!

Rose brugioni

We were planning to make a camping trip to Illinois State Beach Park in Zion( first trip unfortunately that will not happen the hostess who volunteer there are very rude I wanted to speak to a manager and she hung up on me..The first time we were not allowed to go and take a tour because it wasn’t on a set scheduled date then my husband went 8/15/19 tried again to check out the campground and the host was again rude . We have had no issues in any campground. We will go back to where we know best and that’s Chain O’Lakes State Park were are treated with respect....

mollie dowling

Our go-to for a quick camping weekend with friends outside of Chicago. Great lake access and trails for running.

Tou Thao

Friendly staff. We visited the camping area. Looked like a great spot to camp out with nice flat and high ground areas. Mosquitoes weren't a problem until dusk. The beaches are beautiful but have tons of rocks and pebbles. Make sure to have water shoes. Other than that, there is also no good fishing areas.

Donovan Zielke

Absolutely loved the beach. Nothing fancy just a nice place to swin and relax in the sun. Water was nice. Great scenery too.

Nathaniel White

Great Beach! Small, but enough room to put a towel down and catch some rays. Also- nice that there is no fee! Not something this FL native is used to.

GopalaKannan Rajavel

Good place for camping, beach was mostly pebbles. Waves were bit hard the time we went. Sunrise is good to watch. Camping ground are available for pre booking as well walkin. The center camp grounds were the best once since they all covered with tall trees. Restrooms were clean. Foods and supermarkets available nearby, no worry camping.

Vicki Wittmeyer

Went here for Mother's Day Brunch. Wow... Food was the Best I Ever had...... Starters.. Ham,Roast Beef, Omelettes Made To Your Liking, All kinds of Cheese, Loads of different Salads to choose from, Shrimp Peeled,Different kinds of Fish, Best Mashed Potatoes I Ever Had!!!! Always was coming to our table asking if we needed anything!!!!! Thank You For Great Food and Great waitresses!!!!!!! We will be Back.........

Ivy Tuber

I went to see a friend staying at the camp ground. it is such a nice camping area, I highly recommend for tents or campers. There's electricity and for some of the sites you can see the lake.

Narmak Javani

Great place to visit. It has a big pound for fishing, and many camping and barbeque sites. A hidden gem. It could be better if park has signs on the road indicating where to make a turn right when going from southern site to the northern. I always have to use my GPS to be notified that 17th Street is the right street. For the cars coming from opposite direction, there is a sign. Thanks for keeping this place an excellent place

Brian Padgett

What a dump. Abandoned buildings, biting flies, over grown weeds, run down pathways. IL taxpayers are wasting their funds on this money pit. Keep one prime spot and maintain it. Sell the rest.

Jojo Rod

Love the peace and tranquility of this pristine beach.. so clean and it's one of the best drive up beach spots in Illinois!

Jessica Sikes

Beautiful but way too windy. If you want to wind surf in chilly water this is your place 100%. Was a pretty wedding going on too. But again, the wind burn...

Cody Baldwin

Was very beautiful. The beach is very close by to the campground(walking distance) and if you forgot breakfast like my group did, there is a McDonalds right down the road haha. Had a great time at the this campground.

Rich Brebner

Nice place just would be nice if people would drive the speed limit in the park. Sad

Fred Cleary

A great place to stay at I will stay there again someday

Bridget Larsen

I could see Chicago skyline in horizon today! The beach is clean. It was beautiful!

Adam Davis

My brother and I loved the time we spent at this park, very clean, lots of room, and the people at the front desk are super nice and accommodating. We rode our bikes on bike paths from Chicago as a short bike pack trip and highly recommend this trek! Bring sunscreen and bug spray! Hey, it’s camping after all.

Gary Reissmann

Nice large RV and Camp sites. We had a 34 ft RV. Plenty of room. Also its right on the lake! Snack shack and firewood for sale on site too.

Cathy Marsicek

One of my favorite places. People come from some distance for the variety of areas it offers (dunes, swamp, etc), you can walk/bike a long way. Nice camp sites. Beach is well kept. Clean, very friendly and reasonable. I am disappointed that the store, beach shelters, snack shop & baths have been let go. They were great once. But I date myself

Eric Schultz

A great camping spot, reserve early, tends to fill. Lots of fun at the beach!

Babita Tamrakar

It's a beautiful place and it's free, no fee for entrance. After the beaches from downtown Chicago these is the oy beach without any fee. It's less crowded then downtown. Plenty of picnic spot and huge parking lot. We love to go this place every year.

Felicia Lagers

Very nice place to relax and enjoy the beautiful weather. Lots of areas with grills. They have bathrooms facility. Open beach. Nice views.

Kim Cordova

Mostly flooded. Website indicated alcohol was permitted in campgrounds but when we got here there were signs saying everywhere that it was not. Not very dog friendly, despite what the website says. Most trails don’t allow dogs, which is absolutely understandable, but this isn’t indicated anywhere until you get to a trail head. Campsites are very close together with a huge amount of RVs and trailers. It’s also LOUD!! I was expecting to have a bit more peace and quiet but it’s right in the path of air traffic and a military base is nearby so you get a lot of airplane noise and noise from trains and a nearby road. It’s actually quieter where I live in the city. If you’re looking for just being outdoors and sleeping in a camper and not hiking, this place is great considering it’s proximity to the city. If you want to “get away” and have a dog along, I do not suggest this park.

Jennifer K

Amazing state park! Beach was a two minute walk from our site. Our site was huge! Water and electric only. There is a dump station available. Very well maintained park and the staff are friendly. Lots of road and trails for walking, biking and dog walks.

Timothy Reed

this could be a much nicer Park if the state of Illinois would just take some of their crooked money and put into the park and really fix it up. It has a beautiful beach lots of trees and large campsites

Bonnie Mayol

Our family stayed at the resort. This includes a large indoor swimming pool up to 8 ft, exercise room and zumba classes. Hotel is steps to beach, has outdoor firepits and hiking trails nearby. Old building but newer furniture. Bar and restaurant at facility. Staff is very friendly. I suggest getting the king size bed suite. It is the only type suite that offers the outdoor balcony with beautiful lake views. Free parking

Dez Daily Photography

We had a wonderful time. Bob went above and beyond for us when we ran into a situation on the road in and we are incredibly grateful. The facilities were clean, park beautiful and friendly staff. We hope to be back!

Anthony Gaines

Nice place to go relax for a few hours. Main beach was kind of busy, but plenty of beach front with more private areas.

Matthew Kramer

What a dump! The beach facilities are all either filthy or abandoned. No showers. No running water at all. They put in plenty of sharp rocks next to the brand new wife useless sidewalk. Do not go to this beach!!

Anais Jackson

It needs some love but overall everything was smooth since check-in check out! Pretty cool area nice vibes

Abi Gardiner

Pretty clean even though it’s under construction right now! Nice to hang out and walk by

Marcin Wilusz

Great place to relax, swim, hike and ride bike. Awesome.

Bob Kolb

Food is awesome but the building is a dump with no bathroom ! Cheese steak hoogie is to die for !

Edith Velazquez

Doggy friendly! Beach is clean, there's a few trials. Plenty of parking. Wished bathrooms were cleaned more often and renovated with more stalls.

Rick Sabatka

Great place to picnic, hang out or Swim. A bit rough today!

Danny Bardwell

It's a great place to bring your family the kids will enjoy themselves

Kurt Nesgood

Beautiful setting on Lake Michigan, fell to sleep listening to the waves. Place could use some TLC.

Ted Birren

Quiet, friendly, and really convenient! Great place to get away for a week or a weekend.

Colin W

Not what it used to be 18 years ago. Sad to see the beach side diner gone an the old juke box and camp ground ice cream vendor. Remodeling and repairs are under way and many people still come here for the holiday weekend which is a good sign. Happy to see this beach and campground is still a popular attraction for locals.

Maryann B

Nice beach... Would be nice if there were better bathrooms.

Josh Murray

We stayed here for three nights and had a fantastic time. The facilities where very clean and everything worked as it should. We did not go to the beach as it was a bit chilly for us but the campground was well maintained. I have seen many reviews referencing Bob and I just don't get it. He went above and beyond to help us and was nothing but smiles everytime I saw him.

John Windes

Bo complaints. It's free! Adequately policed by the state conservation cops (thanks guys) and clean. Swimming was nice. Was busy on July 4th but not overfull.

S T

Beach resort We stayed one night. The rooms are beautiful and very clean. Lake Michigan is a few feet from the hotel. It's so peaceful there sitting on the bench watching the sun rise. I recommend this hotel highly.

La Wanda Robinson

My new favorite spot! This is now my new home when I return to Waukegan! Who knows might be the future site for my wedding! ❤

Eunoia McCreary

I had to drive around in order to find the correct entry point. I think they should take a little better care of the area but when you see it. you think OMG!

Nancy Cummings

Disappointed they discontinued the prime rib and steak weekly specials, but enjoyed a burger instead. Service was great!

Cabanas Licardo

One of the best place to visit in the Midwest. Portopoddys and camping are available.

This was an enjoyable place to walk around. There are a few trails, camping near the lake and a couple of nature preserves. We didn't end up at the north part of the park but will be back to do that next time.

It's a very large park with lots of shade and close to the water. There is a good bike path and many amenities. However, it does not have full hookups, and in fact not even water and electricity at the campsite--electric only. The staff was very helpful

Nice little area. Beach, forest, prairie and hiking trails. Open from sunrise to sunset.
