This Park is classified in the category of Park.
This place was awesome. I've been down in the Carlyle area in other camp grounds but never this location. It's a phenomenal place to stay!
This is a Hidden Gem of a park with campgrounds and cabins as well. Carlyle Lake is pretty big with a number of different access points. This is a great place to escape either for a day trip or an overnight Adventure. Renting sailboats is a breeze and as long as you have passed the Illinois safety course online and can demonstrate competency it is simple.
I've been staying here for a while now and simply love the place and the people who run it. I have a popup camper so my needs are lite compared to someone with a more sophisticated camper. Many of the campsites do not have running water but there are bathrooms everyone and they are well maintained and the showers are hot even after heavy use. The camp hosts here are extraordinarily friendly and have clearly made lasting friendships with many of the returning campers. They and the rest of the staff keep the park clean. There is abundant wildlife to watch. Lake Carlyle is simply beautiful and if you have access to water craft, the possibilities are seemingly endless. Eldon Hazlet State Park is a real gem of a camp ground. It gets 2 thumbs up from me!
It is so beautiful and the staff is very friendly. I only gave it 4 because the out houses need some work. They are dirty and have a lot of bugs in them. The women's out house had a wasp building a nest in it. The fishing is great there. The boat rental is pricey though.
Nice views..!!
Very clean campground host very pleasurable to talk to.park is well kept
Great place for camp quite spacious sites
Great campgrounds right on the water, great views. Lots of beach swimming in the area and playgrounds. Good community
Very nice park Friendly service close t everything. ..
Wonderful, beautiful and spacious spots! We will return!
My favorite place to camp and bike.
Had a fantastic time. We spent 5 nights at site 125. Gorgeous!!!
We love this park. Best campsites around.
Great pleasure boating and somewhat fishing. Alot of new things added since the 1980s and late 90s.
Love camping here, came early just to get a spot on the water
clean, nice campsites, lots of room! Great views when sitting outside our camper!
Had a great experience with the park staff they bent over backwards to get my buddy's electric back on!
I have stayed here for many years and I will be back. Cabins are nice. Fire pits and tables are available. Very relaxing by the lake.
Nice park. Electric only at campsites.
My family and I go here every year. The cabin rentals are cheapish and they are in great condition with a TV in them, just in case it rains. The fishing is good, the lake is big enough for speedboats, sailboats, whatever you want and there are smaller channels where you can kayak or canoe at your own leisurely pace.
Charming place
Great place. Friendly family environment
Great place for a nice hike!!
Very nice cabin in a beautiful setting.
Love waking up under the shy in the middle of the lake
Beautiful camping sites
Very clean and personal very helpful
Excellent camping spots and immensities
Great state park.
The furniture is really getting trashy. We have been coming every year with the family since 2006, New management was starting to clean things up but the furniture is trashed. The cottages have always been clean but this year they were not as clean as in the past.
Great place for camping, fishing, or just a day in nature
Looks like the state hasn't paid their trash bill every dumpster in the park is overflowing.
Bathroom and shower very clean. Campground reasonably priced. Very pleased.
They provide all the amenities. The Cottages are very clean. The people are very nice. And if there is a problem they fix it quickly. Who would not want to stay in such a beautiful peaceful place . I have all ready reserved for July. Thank you Hazlet Park Cottages and Staff
Peaceful and quiet, so far
It's awesome
Cant ask for a better park for all around barbquing, fishing and hunting and trails trails trails !!!
My favorite place to go camping in the state of Illinois. Beautiful lake, well shaded very large campground, cabins to rent, boat launch, clean showers and restrooms, the lst goes on. Get there early especially on holiday weekends if you want a site to camp.
I love the fishing
We watched the eclipse in this tranquil place. So many beautiful birds and a huge lake, the largest in Illinois.
This is one of my favorite places. I love going out there for the peace and quiet. The husband and I just cruise around on the weekends enjoying the animals and scenery.
Really nice park for RV's and tent camping. Very nice and accommodating hosts. Pool is a little expensive at $4 per person per day ($5 on Fri and Sat) but so worth it when it's 90 plus outside. Would definitely stay here again.
Great Campground. It's our annual vacation the week b4 the 4th.. Love The Great Outdoors
Water is very high. Note, camp host will not take debit card. There is an ATM in the little store.
Nice campground started camping here 35 plus years ago always nice to come back.
I would love to give it 5 stars, but evidently the camping area doesn't have mandatory quiet hours, so all of the grown ups partied until 4 am. Then at 8 am all of the kids came out to play. I got maybe 3 hours of sleep. I'm all about having a good time, but the other campers may have taken it a little too far. The views are outstanding and the camp store was convenient with a pleasant staff.
Amazing great people beautiful views a convenient camp store amazing fishing opportunities great hiking/biking land perfect for camping all year long with a convenient pool! Near the beach and spillway. Only 20$ a night is a steal!
I like how some of the campsite are right on the edge of the lake. It's a short drive (2 or 3 miles) on the "lake Rd" to get to the beach or there's a nice pool right in the campground right next to the campground store. Most all campsites have elect but there are some without elect also.
Perfect for our scout troop in the youth area
The work that the new owners have put into these buildings is amazing! We have always loved it here, but now we recommend it to others as well!!!
Such s beautiful place !!!! A little crowded at times but kept clean and amenities are awesome!
Cool, decently-priced campground by the water. Lots of neat spaces tucked under a canopy of trees. A great fall camping destination!
Very expensive for only electric hook up. Other campers most are not friendly. My mom stood outside 1of the shower houses for almost 30 minutes. Tried to flag down some help. No one bothered to stop. We will stay at Dam West, McNair from now on. 1st and LAST time here.
This place is great! And the swimming pool is a bonus!!
Great for boating and fishing. Close to quick shopping needs.
Beautiful outdoor space. Lots of room between campsites. Camp store is very handy.
Nice and quiet there you can see the water from anywhere you are at at that
Best lakeside camping at Carlyle. I love the primitive walk in section.
Great campground on Carlyle
Good place to launch your boat
Nice campground on Carlyle lake. Nice facilities and there are hunting opportunities.
Really nice clean park.
Basically born at this park, I am very biased to it. Highly recommended for any first timers to Carlyle lake. Lots of lakeview campsites and coves to swim in. It's also the only place I've traveled in the country that I could see.the milky way with my camera. The stars are insane there.
Great sailing club located within the park.
No signs telling were the state park is or the entrance to it uncut grass near the water area so it's easy to get hurt and not having golf carts is the number one problem in every state park because not be able to get around but it's okay for the host to have one is just plan wrong if a camper person can't have a golf cart to get around than the host can't either!!!!!
Overall, we have enjoyed our stay. We like the view and access the the water. The camp sites are nice and fairly level for a trailer. There are new fire stations that are above ground. They work to burn wood be or charcoal and have an adjustable grill top. At the time of our visit the price was $20 and came with 25 watt service. Some of the sites are a bit close together and wood smoke can be blown into neighborhing tents or campers. The 25 amp service we used tripped if we turned in the AC. Overall, great value. We plan to return with friends and two sites.
Just love it. We go 3 to 4 times a year. Especially in September.
Very nice campground. Lots of room to spread out! Crazy amount of birdsong.
Way better than Rend Lake
A great campground on the reservoir. Beautiful walk-in sites with a great breeze.
Great place to view wildlife during winter months. Roads are getting a little rough though.
We tried to book a site there and the website was very unclear. The camp site was closed due to flooding, so I cancelled my reservation before the disclosed time limit that was stated on the website. They still charged us for the site and upon calling, the worker was very rude and stated she would not do a refund and argued with me in an attempt to make me feel stupid. It was very unprofessional and honestly seems like a scam to get money. Would not recommend using this Park, there are several more in the area.
Very clean park well tooken care of
Beautiful camp ground with lots of good fishing holes. Far from restaurants and stores so bring in what you need.
Great place to camp. Clean and quiet
Love it
Very nice park. Boat launch was great. Lots of parking. A+
Great place with old-fashioned hospitality
Grady place took camp
Very Clean and taken care of. We had a great time camping here!
Beautiful out there. Hosts are very nice. Comfortable atmosphere
Nice, large area with little nooks overlooking the lake that aren't crowded. Lots of camping and hiking opportunities, as well as swimming. The dam is cool to see.
Beautiful. Gorgeous. Peaceful. The cottages were nice, clean and had air conditioning. The park staff were extremely friendly. We are planning on returning in the fall.
Relaxing, clean
Too expensive
Disappointing. Was excited to go to Carlyle Lake as I heard many good things. The US Corp of Engineers campground was pretty full on the south side of the lake, so we thought we would try the state park. The park has so much potential, but it seems like they don't really care about the upkeep. The camper pads were overgrown with grass and weeds. The fire pits were small. By the middle of May, I would expect most campgrounds to be in full swing in this part of the country, but it felt like the campground was still hibernating from the winter.
Very nice State park. My son and I pheasant hunt here. Very nice and clean facilities. Good breakfast at the camp store. Staff, throughout the park, are friendly and helpful.
Beautiful place to go. Camping, fishing and cooking.
AWESOME PLACE
Great place to set up a tent after bicycling all day. I stopped on a weekday right after Memorual Day and had the whole place to myself. Great sites right next to the water making for excellent sunrise views. The campground host gave me a bottle of Ski when I got there. I had just pedaled all day through the heat and it was delicious!!!
Beautiful park. It is huge with lots of different style sites. We stayed in the Illini section. Great price for camping. Sites are great size. We did electric hookups so we were right on the water. We had a great time and would definitely come back. They have nice showers that are plenty big enough and water is hot. There is a firepit and a picnic table at each site. They even have nice handicap spots as well. You can boat, fish, tube or swim
Camped here with my two kids, nice facilities.
Super nice..always have fun watching sail boats
Great hiking trails. Always camp here when staying at Carlyle lake. Campgrounds are nice and great for tents or rvs.
The trail was alright and marked decently. It was a good chance to walk my dog, but it wasn't particularly exciting.
Beautiful park
Cozy camping with beautiful views.
They have it all! Trails, a pool, a camp store that serves breakfast and is well stocked, and several different campsites that very in price we paid 20$ for electric only.
One of the best places to camp visit or even drive thru......everyone is nice , the lake is beautiful and the camping areas are the greatest ive ever used
Awesome Family Campground right on Carlyle Lake
Nice camp grounds with multiple sites to pick from, fire pits and cooking places in all sites, pick up wood from the town close by.
Had been run down over the years and poorly up kept. OK for a quick night of camping. Don't suggest a long stay here
Very nice and clean. Lots of camp sites.
Beautiful campsites near or on Carlyle Lake. Very peaceful and quiet. Spacious campsites.
Love the camping options here.
Great place to spend the day
If the condition is right it's a great place to take a boat
Great cramp ground
Very nice hike!
Very clean park and has a good camping area by the lake. People seemed respectful and a good place to camp.
Very nice ... site 15
It's such a beautiful place!! We had a family reunion at one of the pavilions by the lake and everyone loved it!
Great place to go camping
Have stayed here multiple times. Great camping & clean facilities
Beautiful place
Awesome place to camp
Peaceful and quiet. Been coming here for 30+ years. Would not camp anywhere else.
Beautiful grounds. Comfy cabins. Perfect getaway for any group!!
Great place to spend some time in a green area and recharge your batteries. Lots of things to do in this area, whether you are staying for a couple of hours or a couple of days. Highly recommend this to anyone!
Clean and well kept camp grounds. The staff working when I arrived were very helpful and friendly. They had information for hiking and camping and were happy to share! The trails are also well kept and safe. Get outdoors!
Nice place to camp
It's a fun time, just seems a little more neglected than usual. Maybe the rainy weather or funding cutbacks who knows?
Nice relaxing spot to get away
The campground is awesome! Tons of lakeside sites!
Camping here is solid. Pheasant hunting here is getting more expensive and less successful each year. It is pretty though. Has a boat ramp. Lots and lots of deer. Never had much luck fishing here but I know some do.
To many people.
I have camped here a few times. The 11:00PM quiet time could be enforced a little more stringently, Hiking trails are easy and numerous. The campground store wasn't as pricey as I'd expected. A nice surprise! There is a pool but I didn't have a chance to use it.
Great place. GOOS SWIMMING POOL. NICE CAMPSITES. ELECTRIC ONLY.
We are currently staying in site #168. We have an amazing view of the lake! The host was very friendly when we went to register. The outhouses are pretty yucky and do not count on them having toilet paper. It is very early in the season so most of the activities are not open yet but we are still having a great time enjoying nature. Only $20 per night is very reasonable.
Great place
We have been staying here the last three summers. Love the cottages. Definitely recommend.
Needs internet. Needs showers updated. They are old and in poor shape. They could use lessons from South Toledo Bend State Park
Very few bugs, a pool and Carlyle lake.
Great place for being out in the great outdoors! Plenty of space for hunting, fishing, and camping! I go several times a year!
Love camping here, year round. Lots to do and great for the whole family. Very relaxing during the off peak season. If you play Pokemon go in the area there is lots of gyms and stops. Do beware of some locals, Roberto, in particular. They do not like campers playing in their town.
I wish the fire pits were bigger and that there was one more bathroom/shower building over in the reservable campsite area but, other than that, it's clean and I would definitely recommend this campground and I will be going again.
Stayed at the cabins, excellent as always
I am writing to make others aware of an unwarranted Verbal attack my friends and I experienced today from the camp host at Eldon Hazlet State Park. The attack was upon myself and another single woman camper. It was also witnessed by another couple We have camped for years at Carlyle lake and have never ran into such a horrible situation This mans conduct today was very disturbing to both of us ladies and the couple who was a witness to it We are adults and should be talked to in a respectful manner We should not have been treated nor spoke to the way we were. It was nothing short of a verbal attack. I am looking into how to lodge a formal complaint so I did not list the camp host name here. Prior to today all camp host we dealt with were always pleasant and friendly. This is camping ,,,it’s a fun relaxed atmosphere. We Will still come and enjoy ourselves. We Won’t let anyone ruin that which we enjoy
Clean hosts were very helpful.
Awesome camp ground. Plenty of great spots with view of the lake!
It's a beautiful park and campground. We stayed at a single primitive walk-in tent site close to the lake. As pit toilets go these were pretty good and a full washroom/shower house was only a 5 minute walk away. Local trails around the park are probably under used hence the amounts of wildlife and fauna. Camp owners were very responsive and even corrected their mistake when they realized we had over paid.
Very good place to camp and picnic and great for kids and family
Campsite firepit was full had to clean it out and lots of small trash scattered around campsite they must not clean in between campers camp host not the friendliest person.Boulder and Coles creek much nicer
Great place for camping and fishing
Another fine year of cabins by the lake and a shore lunch that the caught fish provided.. Thanks again for another great year
We are from Texas where a full hookup at campsite means water electric and sewer at your site. Here full hookup is offering water and. A dump station down the road. All that is at your site is electric. Those are primitive camping where I'm fom, and basically free. And your told when you reserve its al available at your site. WRONG!!!
Beautiful space to camp. Great view of a peaceful lake and nice spaces for a camper/RV. Fire pits, electric plugs and picnic tables at each spot. I went in November and it was very nice, not crowded.
Great place for families quiet large sites clean pool
Great location. Fun campground!
Love the cabins. Good for a week stay or just a weekend get away.
Really pretty site, but the pads are placed far too close together, and the quiet hours are absolutely not enforced. On top of that, Hazlet has a well-earned reputation as a "party" campground, and I wouldn't recommend it as a particularly family-friendly place. At our most recent trip (this past weekend, in fact), we and our kids were treated to two nights of nonstop, full-volume cursing and brawling from a couple a few RV sites away from us. Super unpleasant experience. Will be using the COE campground from now on.
Verry good place to rest and relax. Will come back again ASAP.
Its on carlyle lake
Good camp sites. Some areas have flush toilets.
Very comfortable Did not have to bring anything from home Cottages are set up like hotel room Definitely will return
Had a great hike in the woods with views of the lake along the way.
Awesome park. Had the nicest walking / bike trails. Trails are cleared of overgrowth or dead trees.
Nice location, but really buggy. Stayed in rustic cabin.
