Take the 4 mile loop trail from the Kilauea Iki overlook. It goes all the way across the crater. One of the coolest hikes I've ever experienced. Don't miss it!

Very maintained trail for the beginning part of the hike. Once you reach the crater floor it become some what technical in some places but not by much. It's around 4 miles round trip so bring a light snack for the hike. Also be sure to check out the Thurston lava tube across the parking lot before heading back to finish the loop.

A must go trail which is a quite easy hike in Volcano Park. Remember to bring some water while you start hiking. I don't think you can find another trail like this in other places. There was so amazing and I love the atmosphere down while you look up the hill. How amazing...you can feel that how people's abilities are so small.....

A good place to either stop at the lookout or take a hike. If you have any asthma/respiratory issues consult a park ranger at the Kiluea visitors center before hiking the crater as the air quality varies.

A very interesting walk. I really liked that you can hear the sounds of the surrounding jungle quite clearly. There are steam vents all around and it is like another planet. It is dry and can be very hot. Bring water. Cover yourself.

Fairly easy hike through the crater. The park is huge with lots of places to drive as well. Pay attention to the sulfer warnings as you'll quickly find out how bad they can mess you up

The crater is really huge and expect to spend a few hours exploring down the trail, across the crater, then back up! Wear some athletic shoes as well, because people were wearing flip-flops and I couldn't believe it, I know they were regretting it!

This is typically the first place you'll come across. You walk through the jungle and wham! A huge hole in the earth out of no where. You can get close to the edge. Quite a drop. Oh and look in the crater. There are people hiking down there?! I'm hiking the crater next time!

Walking the crater trail can take several hours. More if you really want to explore! It's worth every moment as you pass some fantastic geological formations. Get off the main trail in the crater and explore the steam vents. It's amazing what you can find.

The trail guide booklet, available at the trail head, is interesting and educational. This walk has a variety of terrain types and ecologies in a short, if steep, exploration. Fascinating!
