REVIEWS OF Kennesaw Mountain National Battlefield Park IN Georgia

Steven Waling

Phenomenal place! Definitely my new favorite place to jog around Marietta. Gorgeous scenery... the running trails are immaculate, well maintained, undulating (rolling hills) and well marked on Google maps... fortunate for me b/c I got to playing and didn't realize I turned off and went down the trail taking me down wrong way and added an extra 4+miles! The mountain trail is challenging enough to make it fun but not so much you'll regret it... some parts may be too tough for the elderly and those unstable on their feet. The cannons at the top and marked lines of defense for the Confederate States' army tells the story and the significance of that site. Well written and Interesting. There's a road that goes up so you can drive most of the way and see from the lookout areas. The ONLY negative I could say about this place isn't the fault of the park itself... but the traffic around the entrance has been pretty bad both times I've been there.

Great park to go out and explore in. I highly recommend this park for everyone in the area. The trail is great even on hot days because the trees cover the path. The walk up is pretty steep but it's not too overwhelming. I wish the view at the top of the mountain was more scenic. Besides that everything else about the mountain was expected. I will definitely be returning to this place.

Tony Johnson

The mountain hike gives you an awesome workout.

Carlos Galvan

Walked the Environmental Trail adjacent to the Headquarters Building . Very nice walk. Well maintained and marked. NPS has done a great job with this park. Very popular place for walkers, hikers and visitors. Parking can be somewhat of a challenge but other than that this is a great facility. Great place to bring out of town guests. Highly recommend.

Trevor Sands

Cam (volunteer ranger) was exceptionally friendly. We enjoyed speaking with him for a good while. The park is beautiful and well maintained. All pathways are marked and make for a great experience.

Matt Kormann

Easy access to a national park in the heart of Marietta/Kennesaw. Parking at the visitors center can be tricky, but lots of overflow options. Heavily trafficked trails, including great opportunities for elevation change up Kennesaw Mountain and Little Kennesaw Mountain. Nice historical signage at key points.

Benjamin Elson

Easier climb than stone mountain, but still tough. Pretty views from the top.

RayJay Serrano

Great scenery! Nice short hike! Such a big piece of history as well!

Mike Desilvestri

An absolute must for history lovers, particularly the Civil War. The Visitor Center is small but has a terrific little museum, great selection of books and really neat memorabilia. Do not miss the short film shown in the theater! This is a legitimate short film, not a cheaply made video, and brings the conflict that took place there to life.

Matthew Kenney

I only had an hour to explore but I made do. I really enjoyed my time here. The museum in the visitor center was really well done.

Harrison Hopkins

Whenever I have a spare few hours near the end of a nice day, I try to sneak off to hike Kennesaw Mountain, and walk through the history of the National Battlefield Park. Every time I go, I easily find parking at the lot just down the road from the Battlefield Museum building. Then it is a short and comfortable walk to the mountain trail, and a wonderful walk up to the top of the mountain. The scenery is beautiful, and I often get to enjoy seeing deer roaming the mountainside grazing. On a clear day, you can also see Stone Mountain from the top, which is a wonderful view. Overall, I love Kennesaw Mountain and I totally believe that it is a worthwhile hike for anybody who enjoys the great outdoors!

Steven Wisniewski

Awesome for it's historical significance as well as the recreational opportunities it provides. Do not miss the museum at the visitor's center, nor skip the updated movie that explains the Atlanta campaign in detail. The Cheatham Hill (southern) section of the park is loaded with earthworks and was the site of the most significant fighting in this area. The Illinois Monument is not to be missed.

R. Aaron Harrison

This historic battlefield conveniently offers nice scenery and decent trails just a few minutes from Barrett Parkway in Kennesaw. I will definitely be visiting again in the future.

Edwin Prado

Great Place to Train if you're from the Marietta area or live away from any mountains, but would like to train on one! It's basically within city limits. I trained here in order to take on the South Kaibab Trail at the Grand Canyon and it was well worth it

Maxine Bier

One of my favorite places to hike in the Atlanta area. The 1 mile climb to the top from the visitors center is heavily trafficked so if your looking for a more peaceful setting I suggest starting from the Pigeon Hill parking lot - it takes longer but there are less people and it’s more scenic. I haven’t explored the trails south of the mountain but there are a lot of options to add on to your hike apart from Big and Little Kennesaw mts.

Brendan Davis

There's a really great running/hiking trail here.

Navard Stewart

I absolutely love this place!! Amazing area for a run, hike, and to exercise with your Dog. Breathtaking view in the fall time!

Adam Francisco

Great park with trails for all levels. The main trail up the mountain has a lot of foot trafic and is a very safe 1 mile solo hike to the top of the big mountain. The trails offer scenery, shade, wild dear, and generally nice people. Great place for a hike.

tony mazza

A great place to take a walk and get back to nature. The additional parking north of the visitor's center on Old Highway 41 is easier to get parking in than the other lots and has a wide sidewalk to get you there. Plenty of hiking trails available as well as occasional reenactments and demonstrations in the field by the visitor's center.

Demisha Nesbitt

Such a beautiful and breathtaking view! There is so much history to be learned as well as beauty to be seen. The trails aren't terribly difficult but if you are new to hiking, then they can be a little tough. I would definitely come back and explore new trails. People even brought their pets along for the walk too!

Candice McCollough

Nice area, but the hike itself is not particularly scenic. There's a nice overlook, from a parking lot /bus drop off, but the majority big the hike is mostly just Georgia pine forest. I think the visitor center was well maintained and had some good info. Great place to walk the dog.

Amanda Neal

Love walking this mountain! Very nicely kept up. Very educational. Beautiful view

Justin Holladay

I love this place! Great green space and hiking. Get ready for that last section to the top!! You can do it!

walter deetz

Nice hiking trails will go there again.

Chad Davis

I always enjoy my time at Kennesaw Mountain. I hike the big and little mountains, and it is always clean and free from debris. It is well-maintained and normally crowded on the weekends. Parking is usually best in the annex lot.

Temekka Grant

Better than my gym membership. Love to walk outside and my fellow walkers are always encouraging and uplifting.

Chelsea Gaudette

The whole park is very clean and the trails are shaded. You can also enjoy playing Pokemon go with plenty of pokestops and gyms

Stuxnet Home-Group

Not much of a national battlefield, but it's a pleasant walk to the top. Doesn't require much effort and small kids (or dwarfs) can do it easily. Parking is a

Vyasa Palffy

Beautiful! Went for a hike a little while back. Extremely tranquil. One side of the mountain is easier to take but if you want more of a challenge you can take a back path which has more elevation to it.

joseph marine

It is a state park with unrivaled vista views. It has walking trails covered by natural canopy which allows the average hiker to remain in the shade for most of the journey from the visitors center to the peak. The walking trails are littered with both natural and man made rest stops. The black top is used for both motorized vehicles and bicycles when it's open. Transportation to the upper parking lot is available on weekends and holidays for those unable to make one mile hike to the summit. The park's historic story is told on posted signs. The significance of the strategic choice becomes apparent once the summit is reached. There are no restrooms or water fountains in the trail. Preparation is the key to a pleasant journey. Stop by the visitors center to access the restrooms and refill your water Containers. Filtered water is offered at ni cost. Wildlife can be photographed at distance near sunrise and sunset. Wear good quality hiking shoes to ensure you avoid foot injuries from sharp rocks formed naturally throughout the park. Keep your pets on a leash and place your refuge in the proper container at the base of the trail. There are no entry fees or parking fees. It's your tax dollars at work. Go see where your money is spent wisely.

Caroline Ganey

Rangers were very informative. Everyone was very polite. A nice place to visit. Lots of dogs with people!

Stephanie Caron

Beautiful trails that go from beginner to intermediate. You can take a short 2 mile hike or go all out and do 12 miles...it's up to you!

Diane Chermer

We got there on Saturday morning and there were so many local people in line for parking spots to get in a morning walk we were not able to see the park. The drive through the park was blocked off so we couldn't even do that either.

Joe English

Beautiful park with plenty of options for hiking trails. You can go up the mountain (1 mile straight up) or meander for anywhere to a couple to 10+ miles. Although it is wooded, bring water as there are only fountains at the Visitor Center. And keep in mind that it can get very crowded on the climb to the summit on weekends and holidays.

Woo Woo

First-timer what an experience nice Trails lovely View good people to talk to as you walk I would definitely try to give it another go woo woo

Heather Ryan

The trails are well maintained and litter free 98% of the time. Every hike I take I see an abundance of wildlife and meet new smiling faces. These trails are a blessing to have in the community.

Rusty Teer

Great place to hike. Always bring water for your dog. It can get hot and there is no water available on the trails.

wholesome_covers_by _nyrmaK

Super fun but I'm soooo tired haha

Emily Harris

I often come here on my lunch break to walk. They just repaved the side lot. Great place to hike and spend the day. Trails stay cleared regularly.

Philip S

The visitor's center offers a small museum and an excellent 35 minute film detailing the battle on and around this mountain. Many locals use this as a nice setting for hiking. There is a 1.5 mile road to the top if you do not wish to walk. A trail takes you also from the upper parking lot to many historical markers. Parking in the main lot can be a challenge.

Bo Seckinger

Great place. It's not really a "national park" like Yellowstone is but a great local place of Atlanta to get a taste of the outdoors. There are deer at the top of the mountain that are so used to people that they will literally almost let you pet them.

Elizabeth Aldridge

Beautiful scenery! Nice path to walk through the woods, but can be a bit more challenging for the young or out of shape. There is a paved path you can take which is much easier to climb up and down. Only negative, I wish there would have been porta potties at the top. My 7 yr old had to use the bathroom in the woods (which is a fairly steep decline). Overall we had a great time and we will definitely be back!

Kordel Burnett

Awesome place to get out doors and go for a run! I'd strongly recommend doing the pigeon hill to little Kennesaw to big Kennesaw trail.

Kelsey D

Lots of trails to hike, though most people go up the big mountain. Easy to spend all day exploring and looking at deer. Plus, it's free!

Thomas Burnham

Just passing through on my way to work, what beautiful walking trails and areas to relax. Powerful history here I recommend this to everyone of all ages.

Phil Harang

A beautiful park, well maintained and the interpretive signs and photos give a clear picture of the battle fought here. You could spend more than a day seeing everything there is to see. Go on a spring day and enjoy the scenery. Go again in mid winter and you can see more with the leaves off of the trees. It's worth the second trip.

Jim W

Just beautiful. Quite the workout hiking to the summit!

Inechia Johnson

I love hiking and this is my favorite place to go!! The view is beautiful and worth the hike!!

Cheryl Belnap

The movie at the visitors center was very well done. It really gives you a feel for some of the experiences both sides had. Our tour was informative. The hiking path to the top of the mountain was wide, no worries about brushing up against chiggers or poison ivy. I'm 57 and in ok shape. There were parts of the path that had me breathing heavily. This is a place heavily populated with hikers of all kinds. Parking is limited at the facility itself but there is additional parking within walking distance. Older people may need/want to be dropped off at the facility. We will definitely go back.

M0e

Was a nice hike enjoyed the view and plus there is no entrance fee

Connor Shocrylas

Great place to hike with the dog. About 30 minutes from the city, its a good change from Stone Mountain with wood trails. There looked to be a lot of different trails offered and a historic walk as well.

Shannon Ryder

Wasn't super busy at 8am. Weather was very nice. I recommend trying the breakfast place across the street called Basecamp. Tasty food, friendly staff.

Maria Toledo

Great place to visit with the family. The views at the top of the mountain are stunning and the entire place is steeped in history. The museum free to enter and is small but there are so many artifacts to see and so much history to learn there. Be extra vigilant when driving up and down the mountain because there are people who are walking or jogging on the road. So go slow and take your time. Just enjoy the ride. No need to rush. There are also picnic tables in shaded areas around so a great place to stop and have a snack with the family.

Rico Boone

First time here was an amazing experience!! I enjoyed the nature and the awesome views. Gotta say that the rocky trail is an obstacle course itself though lol. I will say definitely bring plenty of water as it can get really get hot in some areas. I will definitely return!

Janice Sensing

Beautiful vistas. Nice movie about the battle and and an interesting museum at the visitor center.

dancerqueen1226

Always a fun hike up the mountain. The history of it all is always amazing. There is the big mountain and also the smaller one. There is a paved road, and shuttle to the top available. If you aren't able to do the hike.

D. Knapp

That was a very good and interesting experience. The little museum, with all the details about the battle, the cannons and of course the hike up Kennesaw Mountain. We loved it.

Oh-hyun Kwon

Love these old school fences. You can drive to the top during the week, but it's closed on weekends. Not bad of a hike though. And it's paved all the way up.

Geoff Mossburg

Great place for evening walk in relative solitute; I just finished the Environmental Trail, which was about a 25 minute walk, and even though the parking lot was full, I saw a total of two other people on that trail. The only downside of this trail is the first third runs parallel to the road, so you get the occasional loud blast of speeding cars and motorcycles, but after that, it's pretty peaceful.

katia Leyva Colin

Love this mountain!! the trail is nice and the view is great !

Jon 12563

Great views but partially blocked by trees. Need more information stations with audio to describe battle on the trail. Fantastic Visitor Center and film.

Steve Ciaccio

It's really a jewel of a park in what is now such a developed area. There are loads of trails and coves where one doesn't feel like there is anything else but woods for a great distance. The National Park Service could use some help with trail maintenance. There is an opportunity to volunteer once a month with a well led, well trained handful of folks that supervise those who will lend a hand. So what are you waiting for? Give back!

Paula Reedy

This is a very nice visitors center, museum and gift shop. We had a person using a scooter in our little group, so we had an extra amount of interaction with our tour bus driver and he was so, so nice! This is a very nice visitors center, museum and gift shop. The musical entertainment really made our visit special. Thank you!

Matt Griswold

Loved the hiking trails and it was a beautiful day. Typical Confederate type memorial though. Not much northern history or slave history represented on the trails. One sided history on display. Kind of weird that we would display those who fought to keep slavery but not those who fought to abolish it.. but if you don't pay attention to things like that then you'd probably love it.

The Contract Slayer

Hiked Kennesaw mountain for my Birthday. Good and easy hike. Easy and cleared pathways. Good for both young and old. Wish there were better views and wasnt distracted by the noise from the city, which is out of their control. So if you're looking for a respite and quiet with nature this wouldn't be the best location

Jack Harrell

Great place to get out. Needs more parking.

Robert Lachance

Amazing National Park, rich with history, and great trails. Very popular and I parked at the Pidgeon lot because the visitor center was full at 9am! It turned out to be great I got a 3 mile hike to the top and then on to the visitors center, then back. Highly recommend bring your own water and plan to carry out your trash.

Adam Cooper

Great place to visit and learn some quick Civil War facts!

Lindsey McNeel

If you love history and if you enjoy nature you have to visit here. You are fully emersed both inside the museum and you can either drive up or walk to the top of the mountain. If you're not able to climb I would recommend walking along side of it.

Cynthia Moon

Great hike. Trails well made. Expect to sweat a lot on this trail. My shirt soak after 8 miles. It was a steep hike to top of Kennesaw Mountain. I wore regular gym shoes. Bring water with you. Get a trail map from the visit center. Oh the visit center lady was very nice and told me I could see a short movie about the history of this area as well as there was a Museum. On this trip, I didn't have time for either but will come back with my husband the next time and see the movie and museum.

MastaMynd 05

The main trail to the top is a more challenging workout than the one at Stone Mountain. Much of the animals that you see along the trail are not very fearful of people passing through. The park is well maintained. The views of the city and further are beautiful. Solo, family or friends...you'll have a great time.

Ben Sexton

Great place to experience nature. Well groomed trails, nice technical sections for trail runs!

Khadijah Jordan

I love to go and read and sometimes a deer family will come out on the field

Emmanuel Lopez

First time visiting the museum today, it was a great experience! A lot of history to learn. Great place to walk/hike! God: Your creation is AWESOME!

Kimberly Lambacher

Highly recommend. You have to visit the museum at least once. There are so many paths to explore. You MUST go to the top of the mountain - the view is spectacular on a clear day. It is amazing to see some of the old carriage roads, cannons and imagine what it must have been like as confederate and union soldiers to have been embattled on the mountain. Amazing!

Shane Aldridge

Charming trails and beautiful views of Atlanta. Can be crowded at times but still pleasant. There are handicap accessible busses that will take you up. There's also a small trailer for snacks and drinks at the top, but no restroom that I saw.

Priyanka Pal

Beautiful place. The hike is 1.5 miles that takes you to the top of the mountain and back. Easy-moderate level hike, sticks are recommended. There is a museum inside the visitor's center and also auditorium that plays the history of Kennesaw mountain battle (40 mints movie).

Paul Ecklund

A popular, well maintained park with not a lot of parking. Great for walking your dog or just yourself, up to the top of the mountain or around the base. On clear days you can see Atlanta.

Stuti S

I went on a hike with 7-8 people. It's absolutely beautiful. One thing to keep in mind while visiting is to be aware of dog poop in random places. Other than that it's very well maintained and once in a while you will see vintage war equipment

Donalda Painter

The history. Amazing lot of climbing . This fat girl from Florida had a hard time on the up grade. LoL

Melanie G

Beautiful area. One of my families favorite spots to walk an enjoy nature.

Ken Schuster

Visitors Center and tour of the museum with one of the Park Rangers was outstanding. Excellent 45 minute tour was very enjoyable, interesting and informative.

Alex Lardinois

Cool lookout over the Atlanta area. Trails kept up, easy hike with some cool history.

Robin Hooker

Great walk and hiking spot. Nice hill for excercise.

Caroline Paulsen

Beautiful park with lots of different options of trails. I love to go up to the top of the mountain using the trail and then walk down the road back for some great views. I always park in the overflow lot because the original one is always crazy anytime the park is busy.

Josh Monroe

Great free attraction in Kennesaw! We love going here to hike and enjoy time outdoors. The hike is very fun and can easily be done in under an hour. Parking is limited so plan on parking in the overflow lot on Old 41. It adds about 10 minutes of walking, but it's free!

Cindy Crum

Great park with an interesting civil war era story. Nice museum with movie and pits of hiking and views. Definitely worth visiting when in Marietta.

Steve Perusse

Cool history you should go when they shoot the cannons

brad cato

Easy to find and very scenic. Loved the hike up the mountain as well as the side trails.

Michael Dillin

Cool place to visit. Nice 4+ mile hike up and down the mountain.

Rebecca Murray

We went on the ranger lead hike up Kennesaw Mountain and it was very informative. Did you know that at one point there was talk of building a casino/resort on top of Kennesaw Mountain. I highly recommend the ranger lead hike.

John Hess

My new favorite car wash! Great staff, thoroughly cleaned. Also bought wipers. Thanks for staying late to finish my car

Ginny Delamater

History, hiking, beauty. A landmark of the Civil War Battle. Drive or walk to the top of the mountain to see the breath taken view from the top. Stop at the museum to grab a cold drink and learn some history. Stroll through miles and miles of walking trails. Bring a picnic. Check the website for special events including reenactments. A gem in the middle of the busy Cobb County.

Dan Reger

Beautiful battlefield. Hiked up the mountain and the Confederate trenches were amazing.

Lauren Heaslip

Great place to run and take your dogs.

Jennifer Lee

If you're looking for a good hike & burn lots of calories. This is your place! It's got uphill climbing, incline, flat area - all in 1 location. The picture attached is a fawn & it's family by the bushes. This mountain overlooks the town of Marietta with a breath taking view.

Chanel Doreana

Wow

Edward

This is a great place for hiking and tail running! The longest loop is 17 miles and there are tons of options to make it shorter. Get there early—parking lots fill up quickly on the weekend.

Miriam Aguilar

Lack of good signs, but the trail to the top of the mountain is nice and a little challenging for beginners.

Ryan M.

One of the most beautiful parks to visit. I’ve been up and down this mountain probably 20 times since 2011. Both my sons at 2 years old scaled to the top of Kennesaw Mountain through the trail. Views are spectacular! People are friendly!!! Incredible historical place, research the civil war history and get an appreciation for this well kept place!

Austin Jensen

Great place for a quick hike. The parking lot at the bottom of the hill fills up very fast but the overflow lot down 41 always has space and is only about a 5 minute walk away. Plenty of shade so it’s not too bad even on the hit Atlanta days. Lots of people bring dogs and are mostly very good about keeping them on leash.

Kendall Dodson

If you love the outdoors, maybe a little history to go with it, here's your spot. Always clean, constantly improving and absolutely gorgeous. It's only a mile to the top. You got this!!

Andrew Morris

Great trails and amazing views! If you want to take a really gorgeous and somewhat challenging hike, make sure to do the 5.8 mile hike up the mountains. It was really fun and a great workout. It wasn't challenging enough for my 5 year old to finish but he was quite exhausted towards the end. Very nice views of Atlanta off in the distance from the top though!

Robby Smith

Great place to escape to some nature in the middle of the hustle and bustle. Bring water with you and your as there is not any water fountains on the trail from the visitors center to the top, even though it seems well developed. Scenic views can be had at the top. Although once you get to the back side of the trails you can appreciate the beauty of why this is a National Battlefield Park. Go enjoy this with friends, family, children and dogs.

Karla Delcid

Really peaceful, not too busy or crowded and a variety of trails. They also have a little snack truck that serves cold water and ice cream among a couple of other small things near the peak. The kids absolutely loved it!

Herb Kussman

Never knew about this place in history. Really great experience!

Rick Palazesi

I have lived in the Cobb / Cherokee area for over thirty years. I have never been to the park before. When trail girl said I was missing out I didn't believe her. All I had ever seen were the people walking around on the sidewalk pushing their strollers or more worried about how they looked rather than the actual activity. So I followed trail girl from the visitor center to burnt Hickory road and back. Fitbit clocked a little more than six miles and 150 floors. I will never scoff at this trail again. As a matter of fact I will include this in my regular rotation. We were there on a Tuesday so I'm guessing there were far fewer people than the weekend. Once we headed across little Kennesaw mountain we saw only a couple people. Bring water and be ready as this is one heck of a hike.

Keith Carleton

Get your history and your exercise at the same time. Walking the mountain trails is a great workout. At the top are cannons that are occasionally fired in reenactments.
