Here you have the opinions of real people who bought the services and products of Augusta Canal National Heritage Area (Park) around Georgia area.
Right now this business gets a score of 4.6 stars out of 5 and this score was based on 280 reviews.
You must have seen that it has an average rating is nearly the best one, and it's founded on a very large number of reviews, so we may conclude that the valuation is quite accurate. If there are many people who bothered to evaluate when they are pleased with the business, it works.
You know that we don't usually bother to place feddbacks when these are good and we usually do it only if we've had a problem or issue...
This Park belongs to the category of Park.
I walked over here to eyeball the place on a holiday, and while it was closed. I was quite taken by how beautiful everything was. In addition to the natural beauty, the old and rustic but restored signs of the industrial complex that had grown up around the canal were awe inspiring - the cranes, the restored mill, the old machinery on display. I had wanted to take a Canal tour already, but after seeing what I've described above, not only will I be taking the tour, but I'm planning on bringing a picnic lunch and doing some hiking/exploring in the area. I look forward posting a detailed review of those experiences soon.
Very beautiful and peaceful out there. I grew up in Augusta, but never knew the history of the Augusta Canal. Awesome experience!
History lesson about the economic engine that powered the part of the south. Shows what csn be done for historixal preservation when the community gets involvrd.
Love this place
Love fishing with my hubby
Take the canal boat tour. Unless you have limited time, you should pay the extra for the canal boat tour. The price includes the museum. The workers at the shop, tour, and museum are super nice and helpful.
Hometown History, family friendly, very very clean facility!
This was a great field trip!!!
Lots of great info about Augusta history.
Definitely oriented towards youth as an interactive site but still quite interesting
Beautiful
Very beautiful and very historic!
Love looking through the gift shop.
great place to take a nice boat ride on a petersburg style electric boat. they have musicians sometimes too
What a wonderful Museum that tells the history of the Augusta Canal and how it was built. The Visionaries Samuel Cummings believe that water could be used to Power Machinery . The Savannah River Runs Through Augusta Georgia and during a Six Mile Stretch takes a 52 foot drop discovered by a engineer and surveyor, Water was diverted from the Savannah River to create the Augusta canal. The 52 foot water drop power turned turbines which turned pulleys to provide Power to the local flour Mill and textile economies. Augusta Georgia was a great textile City, its heavy use of cotton during that Era produced beautiful textiles from cotton it's other major industry
Very nice and educational outting. The tour guides was very knowledgeable and they had the patients if Job to deal with so many students at one time. Awesome!
Beautiful!
Very informative, great overview of history of the canal and Augusta
Incredible experience in the history of Augusta and the Augusta canal!
Beautiful Area. Different buildings inside a old cotton mill press.
The Discovery Center is great, but the History Tour is where the real action is. Clocking in at right under an hour, the guide gives you a brief history of the canal, and Augusta during the Civil War. It's informative, kid-friendly, and full of beautiful scenery. If you get a chance, take this tour to learn some great history, experience nature, or just take a relaxing boat ride.
Very nice little museum. I learned a lot about the history of Augusta and it's Canal. I always wondered how a loom worked too and now I know!
Great place to visit. School field trip.... awesome and very educational.
It is a cute little museum. They have a short intro film when you first get there to give you some background info on the canal. Then, they have exhibits detailing the building of the canal and the impact the canal had on the local area. There are some neat interactive exhibits and some more short films about the factories that rose up because of the canal. They also have a very nice gift shop with very reasonable prices. You can also buy tickets for boat tours of the canal at the museum. The boat tour is fun and very educational. I would recommend the museum and the boat tour, especially if you want to learn about the local area and its history.
Its so pretty and clean the people are so nice
Well organized. Good environment. Very entertaining. An informative depiction of a significant part of Augusta history.
Great site with a wonderful interactive museum. The canal tour is really interesting and seeing the wildlife is great.
A nice historical and interesting place to visit.
Beautiful historical place
Nice little museum if you are into augusta history or into early hydro power. You can also buy tickets for a boat ride here. Take boat ride in cool weather. Summer time is not the time to take a boat ride.
Went on both tours. Great people putting on the tour. I highly recommend.
Great Tourist Place of Historical values.
I have been here several times and I always love it. Very fun place to visit make sure that you take the pettersburge boat canal tour.
The canal was in the process of cleaning. We enjoyed the walk and the history that came with it.
Soo glad we were able to go. It was such a pleasant surprise. I really didn't think it would be so nice. My child & I went with our online school event and were happy we did. We learned lots of history & got to ride the boats & it was a beautiful day for it. Kids will love it.
Very nice museum and tours, kids loved it. Cute gift shop.
Great people and wonderful learning environment
Very interesting place. Beautiful scenery! Captain Tony took good care of us.
Nice mellow cheap tour. Cool plant life along the banks and occasional wildlife. Lots of historical facts about the bridges you pass under. The tour guide gesticulated nicely at the scenery.
Really a cool place to check out of you've got kids. When we went out was free, but some of the exhibits were closed. Is like to say 5 stars, but we didn't get to see everything. I really appreciated that the price was free though with some things closed.
A little bummed the boat tours had been cancelled for the day (due to debris in the canal), but the discovery center museum was still neat. The interactive displays were great for my little one (almost 3 yrs old). And older kids seemed to enjoy them too. Overall, worth stopping in.
Great place to discover the rich history of the canal
Great place for everyone to go
Teachers and one guest received a free boat tour. I will definitely be bringing my students back for a field trip.
This is a must do if you visit Augusta. Great experience and explanation of the history of the area. Take the boat ride early in the day, tour the museum to cool down, and then find lunch at either the fat man cafe during the week or the boll weevil that is open on the weekends.
This place is AMAZING! A great place to learn some of the local history. The canal tour is a must!
Great place to explore and learn!
Had a great time. Love the museum.
An incredible building. Renovated from an old manufacturing facility and it contains an assortment of cool things like apartments and business offices.
Excellent toures great boat ride.
Interesting narrative about the canal's history. A little trouble with the shade umbrellas in the wind. In all a pleasant experience.
Was enjoyable
Someone needs to tell that former "history teacher" giving the tours the south LOST the war
Great place to visit and be with nature.
Great tour. Educated staff on the tour. Nice museum with the history of the textile industry.
Wonderful place to visit for school trips.
Awesome running trail, great for taking photos
Love it
I didn't know this place existed if it wasn't for my sons school trip. A lot of history about Augusta here and it's just right for kids.
We took the afternoon history and nature boat tour. Our guide was very knowledgeable and kept us interested for the one hour ride on the canal.
Had a great time on my kids fieldtrip!
Is a cool place to be, people!
Very cool place, nice walking trails&loved the lil falls
Nice marine life and relaxing tour
Not very well maintained
Very educational and a comfortable tour!
This is a very nice area!
It was wonderful and very interesting.
Very nice complex offering outdoor nature trail in rural and urban environments as well as a museum. We love to ride the trails and eat in downtown Augusta. Great day trip.
Very interesting place to visit.. full of history and a super sweet and funny staff. Definitely recommend it for a day with the kids.
Courteous staff, self guided interpretive center, excellent boat ride and guide
Wonderful place to visit
Great history lesson
Beautiful area! My grandson loved catch and release fishing.
Really great tour and museum. There is so much history in Augusta.
Wonderful and knowledgeable staff. A Great place to learn about the history of Augusta and the canal.
Very educational. I learned many things about old Augusta. I highly recommend.
Love this place great history.
Very nice atmosphere
Everyone there was knowledgeable and helpful. We had a wonderful tour of the canal and the museum was fun with alot of hands on displays.
So there are several different parts to the canal discovery center. We entered at the Lake Olmstead trail head. Cross a bridge and go to the aqueduct park. There are plenty of signs to direct you. We loved it! The waterfall is easy to get to and easy to climb. There are clean bathrooms right at the beginning and shout out to the sheriff's department for having an officer there. It makes every one feel just a little safer knowing if you need something help is close by.
I visited just the the Augusta Canal National Heritage Area museum as it was just too hot to take the boat tour, but I learned a lot about the industrial history of Augusta during my visit. The museum has interactive exhibits that show how the Augusta Canal worked and how it changed and industrialized Augusta. I'll definitely be coming back in cooler weather to take one of the canal boat tours.
Wonderful field trip for our family. The boat ride down the Canal was fun. The museum and video was very informational. We learned a lot about the history of the town as well as the Canal. Very neat! Kids really enjoyed it as well.
Beautiful place
nice river boat ride
Its real nice
We took the animal canal tour. I think we saw eight turtles and a bird... Not that great but educational. Very pricey.
Pretty nice your of the canal and very interesting facts were given.
We had a wonderful, educational time at this beautiful place! Thank you for the new memories!
Small museum. History being explained on the boat ride.
This was pretty cool learned a lot about the different changes that happened on the canal and some of the industries stuff we took a little boat up and down the canal which is pretty cool a little boat ride and they were very knowledgeable cool little Museum going on and stuff and definitely a good little fun day trip went with my parents and my son it was a fun outing
Great place to visit when in the Augusta, GA area. Museum was very informational.
History
Decent historical information center to browse while waiting for a canal tour. Clean, well-maintained and staff are friendly. Sort of in a weird location so it's not super easy to notice from the street.
Live the museum and the boat tour. You get to see a lot of wildlife. Even the occasional alligator.
Beautiful and interesting
Delish craft beer growlers and cans.
I love the can
This is one of the beautiful places in downtown Augusta. Great environment and is great for run, relax, read or just a walk with your family or a loved one. You can see South Carolina at the other side of the river. A lot of people having photo shooting on the premise. Most visit if you go to Augusta.
A very informative afternoon tour that focused on Augusta Civil War history and how the canal was built.
It's a great trip for individuals, and families who want to learn the history of the Augusta Canal; and Industrial Dristrict, as well as the roll they played in the Civil War.
Friendly Staff and a reasonable price for a quick boat tour and history lesson of the canal area. If you live in Augusta or are just passing through I recommend the tour if you have an hour to spare after lunch.
Wonderful history filled trip
Awesome presentation of history in the Augusta area.
Great tour and sights of downtown Augusta . You get free admission to the museum with the boat tour. It's not a whole lot to see but it's done well.
Excellent learning exhibits. The boat ride was informative and enjoyable.
The museum is well laid out and has fascinating information. The kids loved going. The boat ride is a must for locals as well as visitors. The canal has an interesting history. I love learning and enjoying the great outdoors. The canal boat ride would make a great date.
What a cool tour! Learned many fascinating things about the city of Augusta!
One of Augusta’s fun places to visit. Learn about the city’s history, reasons for building the canal, its uses over the years. Then, take a ride in a Petersburg boat up the canal. See the Butt Bridge, old textile mills being refurbished and repurposed, wildlife and other sites explained by your guide. A must see!
Great boat ride with history of the canal!
Like going their. You can ride your bike fish and soon picnicking.
It was real fun to see and learn about if you're in the history great place to visit
Great place to get out and learn some history. And beautiful scenery
Beautiful place for a wedding.
Nice with the little boat
Lot of hype, I'm a first timer to GA, and this really let me down. Riverwalk as well. Augusta really needs to add more Attractions. For people to do here
Very nicely done
Nice ride down the canal. Lots of room in the boat. Enjoyed hearing the history of the canal.
I love this area I have a lot of memories growing up in this area. My family also worked at the mill. My daddy retired from the mill.
What an awesome area! Picturesque scenery, historical information, and friendly employees.
Great time with a group of friends
History
Float the canal, watch wild life, get some history, and potential future plans to canoe the canal or bike the towing paths.
Very well done and interesting
Family friendly, educational and fun!
The tour was fun, but the staff was incredibly disorganized. Nobody was able to log onto the computer, so we couldn't by snacks, drinks or gifts at the gift shop. The previous tour was late getting back, so we were left standing around waiting for the boat to get back and unload. The musician was talented, but also disorganized. He didn't know how to use the speaker, which made it hard for people in the back to hear. He didn't have a set list and spent most of his time promoting his CD.
Nice relaxing little trip to take with your family.
An evening at St Joe's reunion. The family of emplotees was the best. The facilities need to consider the following. Poor WiFi support. Sux or more options to chose from and then guess as to what password to use. Poor router support for the signal. Image kept freezing anywhere within the two rooms. Good serving line was total chaos. No beginning or end. Reminded me of cows eating at a trough. Has to wait almost an hour before I could jockey myself into a position to get a few meatballs and some chicken strips that are very dry, cold and incredibly tough. No individual glasses filled with anything to drink. Enough store bought cookies and cake to last 6 months. Needed more organization with a possible two sided long table with possibly coordinating people from certain tables to be orderly served..
Great place. Beautiful place to visit.
We brought the kids from Lexington SC and it was a fun event. Kids loved being on the roomy boat (even my 76 year old mother climbed on with relative ease), cool sights and nature viewing. The discovery center was also really interesting. Kids bought coonskin caps at gift shop and wear them everywhere :)
Great tour through the canal and museum
Loved it, staff is awesome and nice. We learned alot, and all kids enjoyed it.
Definitely a place to visit for history buffs
Beautiful water, peaceful
Fantastic exhibits on Augusta's industrial history, without being stuffy or overwhelming. Circa 1980's movie could be updated. Tours of the canal bring the message from the exhibits to life. Loved seeing the old smokestack from the Confederate Powderworks.
Awesome trip, well worth it!
A nasty, hateful woman answering the reservation line. She's rude and has no business answering the phones. date: 4/17/18 in the am.
This was such a great day!! Well run with a fun guide and a competent and handsome captain. Historical with lots of wildlife. Very knowledgeable tour guide! Later in the museum I found a poster of a doffer which my dad did when he was a little boy. He worked at a book binder and replaced the thread on the machines. He said he got to play in between and it was his happiest time.
Great people. Informative and hands on. The building itself is amazing architecture. Go for a boat ride ☺
The Gem of Augusta ! Beautiful place.
Comfortable boat tour and some wildlife. Lots of turtles!
I enjoyed the canal tour. It was informative. The staff were friendly.
The experience was great, but the boat should have a half cover for those who may need it.
Always a joy to visit. Take the cannel boat ride. Also go through the museum.
Had a great time with my son. We were the only ones on this trip, it was like our own private tour ;o)
Interesting historical facts
Excellent place to visit to learn about how the canal changed the future of Augusta.
Lots of places to walk outdoors.
Neat experience and boat tour down the canal. A little hard to find and get too so just keep walking around and you will get there.
Nice and peaceful. Wonderful tour. The kids enjoyed it.
The experience was great, the tour guide was great. Very friendly. Answer any and every question we had.
Great history lesson ,just a little to hot to do in the Ga heat. Do it in spring or fall
This is a neat historical area. It contains a museum, lofts, restaurants, a nice venue for events. I will definitely visit again as there appears to be much more to see.
Super interesting boat ride. Have done this many times and each time I learn something new. Today's guide was especially good.
Canal boat Excursion up the canal I'm bad what's nice scenery was pretty good historic sites along the way with laceration only negative was part of Route was blocked because of work being done so trip shortened and narration was unnecessary on return trip would have been better just to have the quiet and scenery to enjoy on the return trip it was nice to have the Discovery Center to explore prior to the Excursion on the canal also the Discovery Center and Canal Excursion Associates were all very pleasant a knowledgeable
Nice place to see.
Very interestimg tour and history on Augusta. Loved the boat ride, the captain and host were so friendly!
Great food and environment
