Went for a walk this morning to check out the area. I have dishes here before. Things looked clean and the trails were free of fallen trees from recent storms. Not much luck here as far as trout fishing goes. Bass usually active where canoe launch is.need more infraction signs up especially around the launch site for discarding rubbish. This north section gets real trashy once fishing season opens. People,be aware of old fishing line and vary it away if you have to. Aquatic birds and even fish get tangled in in and sufficate. Over all it's a great place to see nature in all her beauty.

The parking lot expansion(s) of the past few ears have allowed a lot more people experience the serenity of a walk around Lake Wintergreen. Can't been a free walk in the woods. Just wish the fishing was as good as it was before the built the dam.

Love this place. A lot of hiking trails. you can ride your bike of the old road from the area gone by. I can't find much about this place but there is a "guard post" but it also looks like outhouse. That is ruffly mid point of the road that is on the the top of the ridge. I did talk to some old guy living in the area and he barely remembers the top road being open.

One of my favorite places to go hiking during the spring. It’s not too steep but also not flat so it’s the perfect mix. At the top there’s a great view overlooking the surrounding area. Be careful of mountain lions though.

I love how close this is to the city! It's great to have a nice hike so close to my apartment. Being able to plunk myself into the middle of the woods after a long week of school work and classes is a blessing. Try to go on a weekday during the school year! I went on a Wednesday when my lab was cancelled and I was nearly the only one in the park. It was surreal!

Great place to walk, hike, explore and relax. The only issue we come across is that people don't clean up after their dogs. But otherwise it is clean and everyone is so friendly.

This is by far my families favorite place to go to lay our burdens down. We bring our two dogs and find this piece of land peaceful and a breath of fresh air.. Great place to “easy” hike and to walk around Lake Wintergreen 365 days a year. ❤️❤️❤️

This is a much bigger park than most people know. Besides extending about 2.5 miles along West Rock Ridge it connects up to a section of the blue trail, Connecticut's oldest trail. This section can take you about another 11 miles and includes lots of climbing up & down, nothing too taxing though and even a small waterfall. An unknown gem.

This place has some of the best trails in the state. There are nice long loops in a lot of variation in terrain that make it ideal for a trail runner or a hiker.

Amazing views from the top.. I walked here from Yale Campus and my only negative point is no safe place for pedestrians for the last mile or so.. Traffic on the narrow roads does not obey the 25 mph speed limit..

The handful of trails that originate near the Woodbridge Historical Society offer a nice jaunt in the woods, and are especially nice to share with our furry, four-pawed friends. There is a river that fills out nicely after ample rain, and the view on top, especially of the large body of water below, is a treat after the hike.

Great lightly challenging hike to do with little kids. We hiked the blue ridge trail then cut down to the lake. Gorgeous this time of year. Hiked for 2.5 hours or so and there are more trails to do.

Great family trails, and some more strenuous. Maintenance of trails needs some help, and some need to be re-routed, but a great place to mountain bike and to trail run for beginners and intermediates. Good for walkers/hikers, too.

My favorite place for trails. Well maintained and blazed. Lots of variety: rock scrambles to fairly level. From the south summit great views of New Haven and LIS to the south and Sleeping Giant to the north. Great variety of plants throughout. A hidden gem on the edge of New Haven. Park at Lake Wintergreen for the best access.

This is a very beautiful and relaxing park. It has a very nice view at the summit. There is also a small historical cave that even young children can climb and explore. The cave is the size of a very small playground. We hiked as a family that included people of ages ranging from 6 to 60 as well as a puppy. There are no public bathrooms that I know of. Foot traffic was low but It was a warmer winter day. The park is handicap accessible at the ground level.

Love the place! My wife, son and I go there at least twice a month to hike around Lake Wintergreen and over the Merritt Parkway Tunnel to Judges Cave and then to the Overlook which has phenomenal views of New Haven and Long Island Sound in the distance. Always a Great time!

Don't be fooled....this place is not open in the winter. It's stated right on the front gate. Plan for a long hike in to the top if you want.

Addition to original review: It is NEVER opened at 8, in fact I have been sitting at the gate for a half hour waiting for someone to open it. I have called the state daily about this, nothing has changed........Nice, but I can see it that it was much better in the past.. State takes so much money from us, you would think the parks would be kept up. Sad really.

West Rock Park is one of the great treasures of the New Haven area. It is only 5 minutes from my house in Hamden but when I get out on one of the trails I am totally immersed in God's creation. There is a trail that starts at the judges cave in New Haven and goes all the way into upper Hamden by Sleeping Giant. If you take a short hike up the ridge there's another trail/road that follows the same basic the path but with a wonderful overlook to the west. There are many trails for hiking and biking. The trail around lake Wintergreen is particularly nice for families and children. An hour spent walking in West Rock Park is good medicine for my soul!
