Great parking. Watch out for the pot holes! They are bone jarring. Easy walk to the beach. Beautiful scenery. PAY ATTENTION to the warning signs on the beach. This is not something to ignore. People have died ignoring this sign. The nature walk is beautiful with benches to sit upon and look at the sound. Bird watching is great here. Bring your binoculars. Places to picnic. Peaceful and lovely.
Beautiful and a great walk
Big beach and great for walking. The parking lot is large and not too far of a walk from there to the sand. Bring a wagon for your stuff if you don't plan on dropping it off before parking.
My absolute favorite place to watch sunrise. So beautiful
Nice place for summer fun
This was a great find on our road trip up the East Coast! The rocks and shells are different than other parts of the coast. The sand just glitters in the sun and is so pretty! We really enjoyed walking along the beach. The boardwalk is a nice feature as well, saw a number of joggers using this. Only downfall, the beaches are not super smooth or soft sand, so not ideal for a typical "beach day".
Beautiful place to walk on the beach! Cool land bridge and board walk. Lots of pretty shells and rocks.
Is so birfol and klaen
I love this place
Such a beautiful beach! I love photographing engagement sessions here!
Always great for a sunset walk
Drove over an hr to get here and we couldn't even swim
Quiet and calm nice place to relax
Fun place to relax with the family and take In some sun
Kind of long walk to the beach. Always smells bad. Shells hurt feet, but that is not the shell's fault! Overall pretty cool and filled with sea life like snails and crabs.
Its my local beach i live in the county
Pros: Its a beach. If you live in the area then it's great. Definitely some nice views and it's not usually crowded so often very peaceful. Nice little island you can walk across to via a sandbar when the tide is low. Sunrise / evening sky offers some beautiful pics. Cons: under a LOT of construction. The roads and parking area are currently being ripped apart. Also a lot of swampy overgrowth and stagnant mosquito breeding pools when you first walk through. Tons of broken shells concentrated in certain areas so walking barefoot might taste like ouch. Overall it's a pleasant place but not a place I would bring my daughter to or organize a family / friend beach day at.
My favorite ct beach
Silver Sands State Park is a great place to go alone or with friends. It's a place to go to become acquainted with nature.
They are putting in booths to charge you to go there in the future. They then locked the gates at 815 when lots of people still like to walk at that time. Then they say you can't have your dogs walk because of the sand Piper's breeding/nesting, when that occurs from May - August. They claim it's April - Sept 1. Convenient that it is the entire season for summer up till Labor Day.
Wonderful park! They have an awesome boardwalk. You can walk all the way to Walnut Beach. The park is very clean and there are picnic tables. Lots of seashells and rocks for collecting. Nice place to swim and get some sun. Walking out to Charles Island is always fun. They have made vast improvements to this park since the 80's. I remember this old lady squatted there. We were so scared of her back then.
I like it as it doesn't charge any prices for now. The water is not really clean but I personally dont swim in the ocean...(Im from NC..)
Love this beach. There is parking far away from the beach area, if you don’t mind a short walk this beach is great. There is a rock getty that connects to a small island you can walk to when it is low tide. There is a walking path that is very well maintained that is just over a mile long (one way) that connects to Walnut Beach. There are currently no restrooms or showers or food amenities.. sometimes an ice cream truck comes. There are picinic benches at the parking lot if you want to bring food and eat.
Awesome for a day of relaxation, family fun, or even your a mind clearing walk or job! Great staff who are welcoming, always ready to answer and educate beach goers on stafety awareness questions and comcerns. I love this beach hands down one of the best in ct
Excellent for walking along the walkway that is aesthetically pleasing well built. Fishing, swimming or just playing in the sand.State parks are free now thanks to a fee on car registrations so might as well take advantage of this beautiful beach on long Island sound!
It was a nice beach area with a sturdy boardwalk that goes around the marshes. There're a lot of people fishing. A great family spot.
Well worth the two plus hour drive! Beautiful beach that never feels crowded...lovely ocean feel.Make sure to visit The Lazy Lobster for The Best lobster roll nearby!
Very nice refuge there we saw a huge owl in the trees Wow ‼️
Great Beach for the kids also has a beautiful boardwalk
Really nice beach, and lots of it, so it didnt feel that crowded even at peak times
Rangers are very courteous and helpful
Silver Sands never disappoints
Love walking the beach! Such gorgeous views:)
This is hands down one of my favorite state parks that I've experienced here in Connecticut. I wouldn't swim recreationally, due to strong current. Excellent place for a walkabout on the boardwalk, please clean up after yourself to keep this park tidy. If one decides to visit the island, note the times of the year you're allowed passage onto the island, and check a tide chart. You know, common sense stuff
Very dangerous at night.
Great place to run or relax. It has a super long boardwalk.
Okay place to go in the summer to either swim or walk to boardwalk. Free to get in.
Love Silversands!!! Relaxing walk in the boardwalk with a few stops to look for shells. Very peaceful the day we want. Parking is great . Overall this is a gorgeous place to visit and have a relaxing time p, even a picnic!
Early Spring stop, great clean beach and boardwalk. Sadly the main Pavilion just burnt, so no bathrooms except Porta potties and no place to change, or get a bite to eat and the neighborhood is exactly just that with shops about a mile away, plenty of parking.
Amazing place. Check the tides if you want to walk to the island
Great for families. Also great for walking the board walk for exercise.
Went for sundown but the sun sets BEHIND the beach!
This is a beautious place! I have always enjoyed walking along the beach, taking pictures at the beach, such beautiful scenery. I enjoy hanging out and enjoy the outdoors! I love it here! It's a beautiful beach in CT! During my teaching career, field trips were here. 2018
Will never come to this beach again! There was a dead rodent on the shore with it's guts exploding. Many people nearby didn't even see it and were swimming right next to it
Nice Beach and boardwalk it's connected to Walnut Beach by the boardwalk
Great, park & Board Walk, never over crowded except on summer Holidays. Great Location
Great beach with plenty of picnic areas for gatherings. Portapotties are ALWAYS disgusting even when the beach is not crowded.
Porta Pottys not serviced since May! You can do better!
It's a beach state park. At low tide you can walk out to Charles island, but be careful and pay attention to the tide.
The water is great
It is a beautiful beach in a nice area and plenty of space. Get there early
Beach is dirty, and full of old piping and rocks
Sand full of broken shells and rocks
My family and I visited here on July 12,2018. The lifeguards are immature. They were picking on kids for "running". They actually told them to stop. They even made fun of a fellow guard. The views were great but the attitudes of the "boys" in charge put a damper on the day.
One of a few secret gems on the shoreline of Connecticut. Not a large waterfront beach for swimming; but, the remain rocky waterfront still offers great views. There is a wonderful boardwalk, with groups of benches situated for rest and viewing. Excellent location for outdoor walking; about 1.4 Miles end to end.
Park was closed for the season but it was nice and clean. I had my dog and was able to walk her everywhere except on the sand. The new pavilion is burnt down which is a shame. There are picnic tables and grills for use.
Nice, quiet, no one bothers you. Free parking! Came here because of a recommendation from a friend. I was originally going to go to Calf's Pasture...but the price for parking is hefty. Caution: there are a lot of little shells that can cut your feet. Otherwise, enjoy!
Love it! I go any chance I get! It's always beautiful!
Nice beach for kids to play around.
Nice beach with walking track by the side. Next to East Broadway street, Milford CT
It's a beautiful board walk
Beautiful and a lovely place for the summer! Would highly recommend it to anyone who loves the beach!
Great place to walk on the boardwalk with nice views and sounds of the beach.
The government spent 9 million dollars on something that got burned down in hours. Crazy.
Great park, long walk to beach. Charles Island walk is great and the two park Rangers are very helpful.
Nice beach at low tide. Free to enter plenty of parking. Only 4 stars bc there are TINS of SHARP rocks!! Ouch
Not a bad Beach it's a bit Rocky for my taste. But if you move over to the more private side the sand is better. Last time I went it was free however they look like they were building a place where they would collect money for parking. If I have to pay for parking at a State Beach I would recommend going to one that had more sand and less rocks
Rode our bikes thru...wonderful
A picturesque New England beach. You can walk/run the boardwalk all the way to Walnut Beach. Trek to Charles Island, when it's safe.
Just beautiful place.
Nice board walk to overlooking LI Sound
Lot of birds and calmness
Good place to hike. Although some of the area we hiked at were very isolated and industrial in nature. Plenty of nature to see when you reach the sea area.
Nice beach! It's a shame the club house burnt down, was looking forward to beach food.
Silver Sands State Beach is having a tough time. The bathhouses caught fire and were destroyed and probably won't be rebuilt in time for the summer season. Charles Island seems to have lost a lot of trees in the storms this year, it's going bald. But Silver Sands can still be very beautiful.
Quiet small beach, plenty of boardwalk to enjoy scenery.
The park itself is beautiful I just don’t understand why we lock up our beautiful taxpayer funded state parks at sunset the best time of the day to be at these parks. Instead of paying a bunch of power-hungry Park Rangers whos only form of happiness is harassing people why don’t we just leave the park open all the time and have a police officer occasionally roll through there. I’m just saying those park rangers or park hours did nothing to prevent that million dollar facility from being burnt to the ground. Just seems like a huge waste of taxpayer dollars and resources
Quiet , clean beach
We went there before sunset. The sun was going down on the other side of the ocean :( But it gave a beautiful golden glow on our pictures with the blue ocean background :) Finally we enjoyed the sunset behind the green field. Sometimes you can reach the island if the water is shallow.
Amazing place to go with friends and family
A go to favorite!
Beautiful beach with plenty of parking
The sand is not very comfortable but the water is clearer then other beaches and the area a cool and calm!
Nice Beach and they have a great trail to walk
Always great. I see they are building outside booths as if for paying. Such a shame as this is s small local beach. No bathrooms - just port a potties- and it’s ridiculous to make people pay! Also take some water shoes as the sand has a lot of shells, all the way to the water!
The place was OK. Their are a lot of sketchy people here though..
Wonderful beach. Clean... Great boardwalk and Walnut Beach Creamery near by!
The beach is beautiful however really Shelly at least where we were. As I understand it there making updates and improvements including adding a restaurant and bathroom facilities which would be very nice.
What a beautiful place, not crowded at all! On the boardwalk you walk over a marshy area, we actually saw a crab snacking on the little fish in there. We also saw Rallus with some babies. Then we walked out on the sand bar! I highly recommend this place.
Nice area. Beach is rocky and covered with shells. Should wear shoes. There was garbage, broken glass, cans, even a syringe on the beach. I feel this is a reflection of ill mannered guests. I think they work hard to preserve the area.
Definitely a must visit destination if you're a nature and coastal lover. The boardwalks around the park near the waters offer some magnificent views. It's a great way to relax and enjoy the scenery. Parking is free (at least for now). It could be busy depending on the day you go.
The walkway into the beach is beautiful and you will spot many birds in the marshy preserve. The beach itself is quite shell filled and uncomfortable to walk or lay on. Additionally the approved swim area is rather small. These 2 items in conjunction with no public bathroom ( porta-potty only) and no food options made me rate it at 3 stars. The area seems like it could offer more
Overall, the beach is clean and enjoyable. It is huge, too, and parking was a breeze (despite going on a scorching hot Sunday afternoon!). There were a ton of shells and rocks though, so be sure to wear water shoes (I cut my foot pretty badly carrying my 9-year old over the shells...at least she came home unscathed though!)
Excellent park and beach experience!!
Beautiful piece of beach preserved for public use overlooking Charles Island
Nice area, added trash and recycling which is nice and keeps area cleaner. Amazing place to bring kids during the summer
A very nice walk, pictures are of the new construction. It's a shame, all that time and money, just up and gone now.
Love the fact that they protect endangered species of bird. The beach was to rocky but it's beautiful. Nice walk to the small island infro of the shore. Fallow the warnings.
Is good but no tables to put the stuff down.
Great birding location...... until the fire(s)
Good for kids ,yougster and for all
I love this park. There is almost always litter in some parts of the estuary however. Over all this beach is tons of fun. The kids always have a blast visiting
At the beach..first time in years. Beautiful out here.
Little chily breezy but sun wonderful
One of the best parks in Connecticut, it features a variety of trees and birds, especially during the summer season.
I think it’s a beautiful park I love it I go there every almost every day in the summer when I can everyone who lives in Connecticut should go there
A wonderful beach /park in Milford CT. Boardwalk for walking, beach for sunning, an island that's accessible when the tide is right, and plenty of parking. One of my happiest places
The boardwalk is nice!
Beautiful and Bike friendly.
Nice beach with nice people
One of those really this is in ct? Places... We had an nice day at the beach.. :)
Niceee
Beautiful park! Love the boardwalk.
Great place too take a walk and just relax.
Great beach.
Loved the storm coming in off water
Great park with a boardwalk and gorgeous views of long island sound
Dirty and full of sharp rocks and shells. Need shoes to walk out during low tide
Always love it here
Very nice beach friendly people and good fishing
It's a really nice park with wonderful view of the ocean. I wish I could go there again when the weather is nice .
Nice beach, not too crowded for a weekend!
We're from Florida, so we take beaches for granted, but I Absolutely Loved it!
The boardwalk is really nice and perfect for an evening stroll, run or there's benches along the path if you want to just sit and watch the ocean and volleyball nets if that's your thing. There's no lights there so I won't suggest going late at night. It's also very cool in the summer which is great if you're trying to beat the heat.
No Puerto Ricans.
Interesting but rather barren ocean front. Lots of rocks and shells.
If you time it right (about 30 minutes before dead low tide) you can see the fully formed tombolo from the beach to Charles Island! Be very careful if you try to walk out to the island as the tide comes back in quickly (you only have about an hour out there before it disappears). The under currents (once the tombolo disappears) are very strong and you should not attempt to swim in.
Very nice, clean and not overly crowded.
Very shelly no bathrooms
So peaceful. Beautiful boardwalk
Great for everyone that ho.but I have been there in yrs
Nice place to have a walk, run, being kids. Always clean
I came here on a Saturday morning and there was plenty of parking available. The beach wasn't too busy and there was plenty of space for people to lay out. I noticed there was a decent amount of garbage in the sand however. Despite that it was very pretty and the boardwalk made for a nice walk. There aren't any showers or restrooms, so important for anyone who is looking to have those!
Beautiful beach front park. Very limited services.
I don't really care for beaches but this is a nice beach. Lots of sea shells & not to crowded
Long boardwalk to get to the beach part. But well worth the effort. If you have lots of things to bring I strongly suggest that when you go there to bring a cart or a wagon of some sorts.
Make sure to go one hour before low tide so you can make it out on the sandbar to the island. Cool to watch the wild life in the wetlands while walking on the board walks.
My visit was to attend a Stupid Cancer Meetup with my son. He's had surgery w/chemo coming up. Nice beach. Free pkg. Footwear recommended. Not much soft sand. Still a nice place though.
I come here for walks on the board walk. Not sure how the actual water is.
A fantastic beach that has tons of room for volley ball, tanning, swimming and a stroll to nature preserve island that's within n walking distance while low tide. A sand bar appears at low tide that allows you to walk (shoes recommended) to the island that's within viewable range from the beach. Get there BEFORE low tide to experience make sure you can get back and forth! Note: A park ranger stops people when the tide is coming back in to keep people safe! Bathrooms available, and trash cans everywhere. Keep in mind, there's tons of marshland/oceanic animals in the area! Pick up after yourself!
I feel bad giving three stars because as far as I am concerned, there will be two ticket booths to collect money for parking soon. After seeing that, I can say that that was my last time being there. I will go to another beach with more sand and better facilities if I have to pay. I feel really sorry!
The park is nice and undergoing some renovations, however I do not understand why these coastal parks are not open for sunrise. I had to drive down through the neighborhood to walk on the beach of the park to enjoy the sunrise with my wife as it was her first time to the Atlantic Ocean.
Too many
Such a nice beach and marsh area. They are currently doing some construction on walkways but it's for the betterment of the park for sure. A long boardwalk through the marsh separates the parking lot from the beach, but it's full of views and and wildlife. There's a nice little sandbar to walk out in at low tide. And a walking path along the beach. There can tend to be some litter, but I attribute that to the less than thoughtful visitors.
Casual boardwalk beautiful scenery lovely place to walk
Loved this beach.. the only thing I didn't like was how dirty it was.. so much garbage... I want to go back , I went as a girls trip.. and I plan to bring my hubby back.. he would love the Island.. but.. if it wasn't for the Island across the way.. I wouldn't come back because of the trash..
It's a peaceful place to go for a walk.To make it nicer they need to knock down all the burnt timbers.
Very good place to go for running and walking... I used to go for walking on the board almost everyday in summer.
We love Silver Sands, but only when there is bad weather or during the cold season. Indeed, in the summer there are too many wacky old people, btw 55 and 85 (and above), going around almost naked or only scantily dressed. What a complete lack of realism, self-awereness & respect for other people! It's a horrible spectacle that you cannot unsee...
Construction happening sorry if takes away from an otherwise pretty beach. Not crowded when I've been visiting during the week. Places to put down chairs and blankets. Saw people swimming. You can nearly walk out to a little island when time is right. TONS of pretty shells. Not a ton of garbage. Neat birds.
If the concession stands and facilities didn't burn down,, would be a little better place,,but it's back to square one right now, good place to get your walking exercise in they have a lot of walkways
Awsome beach ..
Love this place!
We had a blast there today.
Beautiful boardwalk! Excellent views and beach. Only negative... no bathroom, just portopotties
Great place for a picnic or just for sitting and reading a book by the water. Wasn't overly crowded. There is a nice boardwalk also that is great for walking or jogging.
Nice place for a walk or lunch by the water.
