One of the best escape rooms I've done

This is a super fun experience. I don't think it's great for kids, but for a group of an adult's it is a blast! Get your thinking caps on because you really have to think outside the box to solve these riddles. My team had four rooms we needed to escape from within one hour. It is a truly hands-on experience, with the need to manipulate objects in the room move things around do math solve puzzles unlock combination locks using letters numbers etcetera. I would recommend it.

As an experienced group with some of our members having done 40+ rooms around the northeast (and two other rooms this afternoon), we were expecting so much more from this room than what we got. For reference we played the lighthouse room. First the GOOD: the staff was friendly and accommodating when booking over the phone, as well as at arrival to the location. The aesthetics of the game were on theme and well done. Unfortunately that’s about it for the pros. Now for the NEGATIVES: the design of the game incorporated many things (even some puzzles - what the hell was the mirror and scrimshaw all about?) that didn’t pertain at all to the game and were simply meant to waste your time. I’ll try to describe our experience without giving spoilers. The first room had a puzzle that we solved very early on but had no indication it was solved, so when we went to the second room, we were constantly looking for solutions to the puzzle in the first room hoping it would give us something we needed to move on. We were told after the game that there was a mishap with one of the props on that puzzle, which “has never happened before”. The second room of the game also had some tools that were not functioning properly and required us to have someone come in and fix them, thereby breaking our immersion in the game. The second room then had a puzzle that was way out of theme for a light house room and was admittedly put into the room as something 95% of people couldn’t solve without a clue. This puzzle completely ruined the game for us as we enjoy playing rooms with no clues and to have a puzzle that basically forces you to use a clue is just dumb in an escape room. Next let’s talk about the clue delivery system. When you do use the clue, you are required to go to the first room and push a button and wait for your game host to come in the room. He then does the puzzle for you! Honestly what the hell is that about? These games are meant to be immersive and thought provoking. Having someone come in to solve a puzzle that you are not meant to be able to solve on your own is just ridiculous. The entire second room was not a good experience. On to the last room. There was a puzzle that you basically had to solve with no clue attached to it before you could get an answer. Maybe we were just tired and frustrated at that point , however every puzzle should have some form of clue to get you started, since this isn’t a mind reading experience. We usually do every room at a location once we start, and figured we would do the same here, however we likely won’t based on the steep price, poor puzzle progression and faulty props. Really wish we had a better experience since we drove 90 minutes for the room. I hope your experience differs from ours. **update following owner response** I really wish all the Boy Scouts and sailors that I know could have made it to the room so they could have solved the gimmick puzzle in room 2 for us. Also I don’t really see how having a smug hipster dressed in steampunk attire coming into the room and doing a puzzle for us is really on theme with a lighthouse. The clue system is lame and others on your reviews have mentioned the same. It’s lazy and uninventive. Nobody says you need a television set in the room as there are many other clue delivery systems that don’t break immersion. What about the giant red countdown clock, is that part of the theme as well or are we supposed to ignore that because it’s convenient for that application. My advice is to learn how to take constructive criticism and adapt your rooms instead of being condescending to your customer base. We have done nearly all the rooms in CT and have consulted on the construction of other rooms. Sometimes an outside perspective is important when the owner is too close to a build.

Just the right level of difficulty, clever clues! Fun!!

This was so much fun. We shared the experience with two other groups (10 people total) we all worked together and made it to the last room (but not OUT!) before our 60 minutes ran out... We ranged from 11 yrs to over 50 and we all had a great time and everyone contributed to the cause. Recommended for all ages.

We had a wonderful time. You can book a private group or join a group, either way you will all be working together as a team to solve a variety of puzzles. They have 3 different rooms you can choose from, that vary in difficulty and story. They change their rooms every few months. You have a guide who is available at any time, with the push of a button. They can help you with hints and technical issues. You are not actually locked in, you enter one door are are trying to exit through a different door. This allows you to leave if you need to use the restroom or take a phone call (they request you don't use your cellphone in the room). You are given an hour in the room, a large clock will count down your time. You will need to sign a waiver. It's mostly stating that you understand that there is a risk of minor injury and stress due to the nature of the room. You also agree not to destroy the place and that you are liable if you do.

I tried to book a group of 7 for a room. The website is unsecure so I didn't want to input my credit card information. I called and left messages but no one called me back. 48 hours later I checked the website and the room that I wanted has only 2 spots left. I called again and left another message. I don't expect to hear back. They are more expensive than the place in Norwich and Norwich has better customer service.

Some of the best theming I’ve seen in the entry, and a lot of unique puzzles in the time travel game. I wasn’t a huge fan of the fact that the clock wasn’t visible easily from all vantage points, and the hint system is a bit different. At least in this room you have to hit a button to summon your game master, which broke the illusion for me. Otherwise a great experience!

This was a challenging one and we enjoyed it. I think if we had not been the last group of the night I would not say the following. We were the last group of the night and they continually commented about how they hoped we would be quick, they wanted to go home and no sooner did we move to another room within the adventure but the hostess came in and cleaned up behind us. We found that spoiled the illusion, made us feel pushed and at the end was down right rude as we asked for a hint and she provided far too much in an effort to get us out and spoiled the challenge. When you pay that much for a one hour activity being rushed out is not appreciated. One of the clues is wrong and misleads the guests but they didn't want to hear it.

I had so much fun. If you like puzzles you need to check this place out

Was there on 1/26/19, wanting to do something spontaneous for my birthday, I booked a private room at Mystified and had 8 other family members come along. We are all first time players so not knowing what to expect we played the entry level Keeper of the Lighthouse, which I absolutely loved. It has 3 rooms to go through. We made it to the last room but Did Not Escape! But that's okay, we had such a blast trying to figure out the riddles and combination numbers to unlock the next clues. It was such a great time and so much fun. We laughed through it all and you don't even realize how quick the hours goes by. The only downside for me is when you use a hint, your time keeps running so while your game master is explaining the clue to help you, your time is running out. So use them wisely! Which by the way our game master RED was Awesome! I will definitely be going back to try again!! I would recommend this place to any one who's visiting the area or if you're local and want to do something fun with a group of friends.

Have been twice now. Fun concept and creative ideas. A challenge and great way to spend the evening. First time through had Radcliff- he was amazing, fun, and friendly. Second time through our guide was not at all pleasant and the reason this is a 4 star review and not 5. I am not sure if being mean and rude was part of the act. Even so, I will highly recommend Mystified to my family and friends and will still go back. However, I will be making sure to ask who our guide will be. My second time was so disappointing because of this individual due to how she handled myself and the group I was with. Update: Excellent follow through and customer service to address issues. Look forward to visiting again.

What a great experience! We chose this as a teambuilding fun activity to close out a day of leadership training. We were 2 groups of 5, one in the Paradox room and one in the Renaissance room. The puzzles were challenging enough for a group of high level finance professionals. We got lots of compliments from everyone on the team saying how much fun they had, how much they enjoyed it and how cool it was to see the results of the leadership/ team building in action.

Kate Lears

This was so much fun. My group of friends had to use all three clues. I'm looking forward to doing it again.

Challenging but doable. Great time with a group

I went to Mystified today and had a great time. I'm the manager of an escape room, so I can be very picky when I go to other places, but I thought everything at Mystified was great. The room was fun and the puzzles were challenging, but they all made sense and flowed well with the theme and story of the game. The host, Phoenix, was personable and nice to talk to, and the owner, Shelley, was super nice and passionate about her business. I'd definitely recommend Mystified to anyone in the area looking for a fun adventure.
