You have all the information of real people like you who consume the products and services of Black Rock State Park (Park) in Connecticut.
Now this business gets a score of 4.4 over 5 and that rating has been based on 618 reviews.
You must have seen that the average score it has is really positive, and it's based on a very large number of opinions, so we can be pretty sure that the rating is very faithful. If people have bothered to leave their score when they've done well, it works.
As you know, we do not usually bother to write reviews when these are correct and we usually do it only if we've had a problem or issue...
This Park is classified in the category of State park.
I really love it here! It's comfortable, parking is easily accessible and there are a ton of picnic tables. I love that they have grills and a huge beach area! One of my favorite go-tos with the kids.
Great place for camping. Ample trails. Location : Very conveniently located on the highway. Close by town is well equipped with camping essentials. Camp site: Sites are good and most are camping friendly. Site #14 has shade from tall trees and is best for hot summer days. Site #9 will be good for spring and fall because it will get Sun on the afternoon. Most sites can accommodate multiple tents along with cars. All camp sites have fire pits. I would classify the camp site as semi-private because you can see other camps around you but cannot hear them.
Nice place they could be a little more vigilant on the porto pottie maintainance but for the most part clean
It's a great place to go hiking
Very clean beach and water, grounds well maintained, bathrooms (portapotties) were maintained. Not too crowded, attentive lifeguards (doesn't mean you don't have to watch your kids- please use common sense) Would definitely return.
Fun to go Swimming but bad language
I love the walking trails here. My kids have had fun every time we go. While this isn't especially nicer than our usual place, it is a nice occasional visit for a change. Easy to recommend.
My friends had a blast! We fished but hardly ever got a fish! But I'd say, rain must've camouflaged them! Then had a yummy picnic! With the bought food we had!
Really not well kept anymore disappointed.
Visited this place as a child and it is exactly the way I remember it. With stocked trout in the lake and plenty of parking for beachgoers and fishing, there is room for everyone to enjoy their choice of activities. There is a noce little campground as well as trails and picnic areas to enjoy.
Nice park for nature walk around pond. Trails are nice and has challenging uphill if you're adventurous. Enjoy. Fun for active dogs
Love to fish trout and go swimming here.
Great trails for bikers
Great place to go hiking, camping, hang out, or even just to walk the dog. Parking lot is also very good for new drivers to practice parking.
The water is crystal clear and cold. Free parking. Plenty of lifeguards. Gorgeous Scenic views
Have been here countless times with my daughter and we always have a great time. Never overcrowded, always clean, and it's a beautiful little gem in a very nice area.
fun place
Small swimming area, closed bathrooms and put in portolets-disgusting! Plenty of areas to grill. Lifeguards on duty
Great trails for all levels of ability, camping, fields... great for family picnics as there are tables available.
Clean and picturesque! A nice day out.
Went camping here for the weekend. The loop i was in (site 7) was very sloped and uneven. There was also a significant amount of poison ivy, in the site and around the loop. Bathrooms and site were clean.
Went for a long walk in the rain that day. Ended up at the park. Such a nice day.
Beautiful plcae, love going there to relax. Fishing is a hobby of mine.
Love this park. So relaxing, and the trails are nice
Great place for a quick hike.
Wonderful
Just a awesome relaxing area beautiful scenery
Good security. Clean rest rooms. Visiting family who camp there often. They love it.
Great state park! Spent the whole day there! You can hike, walk, swim or even just chill around the picnick benches! Delightful
One of my least favorite hiking trails. Only Manchester is worse.
Kickoff for good hiking. Very good swimming and fishing in a springfed pond. Large field for games and picnics. Beautiful large picnic pavilion.
Beautiful scenery, lot's of space for activities, and a lot of bugs! Be sure to wear bug repellent!!
Lovely little hidden gem :) Nice walk
Love this place on summer
The water smells. There is goose poop all over the sand and when I got out the water I had a brown slime on me. Never will I go back. They need to keep up with cleaning there.
It has a small swimming area (beach and no life guard). There is also a camping area and a picnic area
Beautiful walk!
Nice place to picnic
I come here to black rock to get away with my family out. I come just to fish. But never no luck. Do they even stock it this year cause I even came on opening day and still nothing. This was the 8th time I came with my family and no catch nothing.
A very pleasant day . Thank you for keeping it clean.
Love this park....Need to upgrade camping area for Popup Campers and tents....Need to improve with bathroom facilities like American Legion State Forest Campground with modern toilets and showers...
I loved this experience...Was my first time there... Definitely my first time Camping...Very Beautiful Place....
It is close and free to get in even though they take money out of the registration
Beautiful place. But did hear a tree knock very loud close to my camp.
Great little campground. Area is clean. Wonderful spot in the Western hills.
It was beautiful. Very clean, very family orientated. Lots of trails for hiking. I recommend it to have a fun time and exercise. Oh yes let's not forget they also have a picnic area with grills.
Amazing, awesome place! The campground is wonderful and the rangers are courteous.
Great time
Beach and water were clean. The only thing I don't care about is that the beach area slopes down and it's difficult to walk if you have a hard time walking.
Swimming, fishing, hiking and camping all you need for a relaxing summer
Nice campground. No alcohol allowed. Bathrooms could be cleaner. Have been here several times.
I go camping at Black Rock State Park because it is beautiful! Showers, bathrooms, swimming at the lake, hiking paths, and rental cabins are all accessible here. Tent camping and fire pits are my way and Black Rock has been my go to place and joy for the past four years. I highly recommend it.
Great place for an event or to just enjoy nature. Beautiful State Park, great staff, great facilities.
Good to have cook out
Friendly staff, campground has handicap bathroom and showers, and campsites
Trails are always a nice place to take the kids for a hike
I love visiting Black Rock State Park with the dogs. I let them go swimming they're after a hike to the top of the mountain. It gets I'm pretty tired and when I bring them home they do nothing but sleep.
Really a nice park kinda crowded on warm weekend's i think it cost 20 bucks to go but you can go on the back side of the lake and there is a free parking area no beach access
Awesome place to hike
Hi everyone came to the campground begining of August 2019 and unfortunately i am so disappointed the bathrooms were so dirty and there was no cold water had to shower with hot water i got burned do to the hot water this is my 3rd time actually coming to this place but this time was horible so dirty dont think ill be returning here.
Great family time
Great parking, park is clean and we'll maintained and forest has nice trails, plus you can camp there. Has bathrooms with water and power
We went to Black Rock State Park today to celebrate a college graduation. Beautiful place well-kept seems to be lots and lots of parking and the people at the gate house and the weigh-in are extremely nice and very helpful! ☺️
Great trails
Beach; picnic tables; fishing...but go early parking fills fast
I was only there to check out my site b4 hand. It was horrible. I went to the desk to see if I can change. Kate was very nice and helpful. The map she gave helped a lot. I was able to change my site. Lets see what happens next week. Can't wait!!
Always enjoyed tent camping here, now staying in the cabins make it even better!
Simply breathtaking beautiful place to go camping.
Fishing was ok
The campground was clean and well kept. We had sites 86 and 94. They were far from the other campers and private. There were plenty of trails to explore and the beach was very well staffed by plenty of attentive and friendly lifeguards. The beach has almost no shade so be sure to bring plenty of sunscreen and maybe an umbrella. The beach itself was a large slope on the side of a hill. Not the best I've been to. The water was clean for a well used pond. The roads in the campground were paved and we'll maintained making it perfect for kids to ride bikes. The restroom was clean and well stocked. The two showers worked perfectly and the water got pleasently warm. I would definitely recommend this park for a weekend trip, especially if you have a family.
Beautiful and breath taking, did not get to climb the rock will visit again do I can explore more in details.
Then going here all my life good fishing and fun for the kids in the summer to for hiking
Good time for family fun but lots of young kids at the little beach unsupervised and no manners
Great park for families.
Great place for camping, swimming, fishing, boating and hiking. The campsites and cabins are really nice, and the bathrooms are really clean. The beach is really nice. My family goes camping all the time there, best place in CT. Very close to a shul in Waterbury. Overall it's a very amazing place.
Another annual Memorial Day camping trip. Usually what makes these places have bad reviews is other campers that do not respect the rules and fellow campers. Quiet time is quiet time and keeping to the 'leave nothing behind' mantra is very important to a positive camping experience. The facilities were as clean as can be expected, rangers patrolled often to keep things in order, but the one bummer was that the Leatherman's Cave was impossible to find. We walked and walked and circled back and forth and just couldn't find it. THe directions provided were not very clear. Wish we were able to see that on this trip.
Nice and safe, perfect for camping...
I finally got to use my $10 tax and visit this place.
It was fun there tons of thing u can do in the park like swim, hike, fish, grill, and probably Pokemon go
Have an annual barbecue every year never disappointed
Nice clean park
OMG, I'VE BEEN WANTING TO COME HERE FOR THE LAST 2YRS,
Nice beach and camping area
great place to hike
The place is clean and the people are nice. I’m definitely coming back to this park.
Is good. We had fun.
Nice place
just went camping there this weekend for the third time had a great time
I brought my family for opening day. It was pleasant, not too crowded, but we didn't catch anything.
Neautiful
I have always loved this beautiful park in Thomaston! Clean, well kept grounds and changing rooms. Great trails to follow. The water is spring fed and enjoyable.
We went for a nice hiking and it was worth it. In top of the mountain was a great view. Love the river crossing were we hike. Beautiful landscaped.
Love it. It helps me navigate through everything.
Nice hiking trails beautiful scenery great campsites clean toilets on top of it all there's a gorgeous lake you can swim
I run here for track races and it’s beautiful!
Very nice place I liked it
Folks it's only good for a picnic & taking a nature walk.they have both a campground & beach there but access to campground on the hill is very narrow as well as the roads n sites being unsuitable for tents n Rvs to use.the beach areas are the same as the camping area in regards to them being too narrow for access with a bigger vehicle.
Nice place to swim
Clean and quiet for a nice walk in the forest.
A lot of police activity there yesterday
Nice hike up the face of the mountain.please got to see some cool vultures.
Used the AllTrails app to finally find the right trails and we made it to the overlook. What a treat!
Clean well kept and serine
Peaceful adventure. Nice place to go locally to get away for the day. Or even a couple hours.
Kids have a blast clean and we'll kept perfect family picnic place
Its clean and close to home except there were bees in the sand .I've never seen that before
Awesome day hiking. Love this trail.
Great sight
Very nice environment, clean and spacious for a family retreat, and great landscape to enjoy a nice, peaceful time⭐⭐
I believe it was well stocked many people there today quite a few catching up
Very nice family park.
Loved every minute I spent there!
This is campsite 94 and 95 great for 2 family's big area. Only a little bit of flat area for setting up tents. There are black rocks on site makes for a bumpy walk. Spots 50 are nestled under the trees and close to beach access. Would grab those next time! Overall had a great time.
We spent a weekend here during the shoulder season as part of a larger road trip. All and all it is a pleasant park. It is geared towards families with a free swimming beach, access to trails and other features. Some of the sites are pretty well secluded and feature privacy and a wooded environment others are more open and less private, showers are free and there is quick access into nearby state land. A fun place to stop keep in mind no drinking or pets in the campground.
Good camping spots and nice hiking trails. We also enjoyed the fishing.
Very nice time
Love being with my family there....we fish...we swim...cook out.. love it
Watch out for bird poop in the sand! Dirty water. Overall its a very nice place to go on a hike.
Good place for hiking had to pick up a bunch of cigarette butts
This place is really big! The lake is awesome too, just make sure you don't go there when its windy
Nice place minus all the trash left behind come on people theres garbage pales everywhere
Love love love this place! Lifeguards are very attentive! No garbage laying around, nice and relaxing!
It's very comfortable
Nice place. Good hiking trails. And lots of spots to fish. There is 2 parts of the park. The main one which is the other one and the back part which I was at. Nice to get out and see nature. Quiet and peaceful
I simply love this place... The environment is clean and the staff helpful and friendly. A wonderful place to just get away for a while... Walking and exploring the trails brings spectacular views you can never forget...
We have been coming here for years but will not be returning again. The cabin was filthy. There was a big group getting drunk and so loud you could here them across the campground. Rangers had to go there multiple times until the cops were finally called by them. We caught a Drunk guy sneaking around our cabin trying to hide from the rangers which just completely ruined our night. It's such a nice place, especially the trails but it needs to be better maintained and the guest need to be controlled better.
Please be aware that there are bedbugs in the cabins we have an issue during labor day weekend in one of the cabins and this past weekend relatives went to another cabin and had the same problem. Other than that a good campground if you stay on your own tent.
I love having the ability to visit such beautiful parks right here in our own state. If you are ever in the Thomaston area do not miss an opportunity to visit
It's was beautiful there
Find Us Outside is offering nature programs for children and families this spring. We hope to find you outside at Black Rock State Patk!!
Beautiful park
Very clean, beautiful place. Plenty of parking. We came midweek so we also had plenty of space to relax. Great place and we'll definitely be back!
The day was beautiful.!
My family and I ABSOLUTELY LOVEEEE it here...would have given 5++ stars because of not only the park itself including such nice staff EXCEPT Katie... Unless her parents own place or owners don't care..she would never hold a job in customer service.. she is rude, cocky, does not care about the guests or her job with her attitude...when places have " helpers" like this..it makes you want to go somewhere else...leave your personal b.s. at the door when you come to WORK with serving the public or don't come to work.... Employees like her give the place/experience a very negative reputation...I don't usually do reviews but when your family LOVES a place sooooo much and been coming their entire life till customer service ruins it....(and they keep that!)....not good!!!!
Very enjoyable. Didn't enjoy having to listen to everyone's music
Good place for relax
The geese should be consider a threat and they should find there nest and get there eggs and destroy them with proper permits!!!
The place is not what it used to be. It started off ok. The staff is not what you would expect at a state park. The rules are not enforced. There is only supposed to be 6 people and two vehicles per cabin. Not 12 people and 4 or 5 cars per cabin. Then there is the fact that the bathrooms are only meant for a certain number of people. Then to see one of the staff catering to the people who are obviously not following any rules. Since when is it allowed that the park rangers are host for a select group of campers. Not to mention you are not allowed to set off commercial grade fireworks in the camping area of a state park. In all I would have given the park negative a rating if at all possible. My daughter refuses to ever go there again.
Generally quiet. Nice nature views. Lifeguards on duty. Indoor barhrooms. No outside running water to rinse off. There were 3 lifeguards but garbage along shore , I felt like they should be cleaning up or instructed guests to clean up.
Great park plenty of parking and there's a beach
Spend a lovely day with friends. Park has good capacity management and clean maintained swimming area
Beautiful state park, didn't have any luck fishing, then again it was 1430, so, I didn't expect much. Will be coming back though!
great for hiking and photography and camping, but the lake is open for swimmers in summer. for me, this is a con as they charge for parking during the season, but for you it may be a pro.
A very beautiful park highly recommended
Great family camp grounds.
beautiful open space!
The place is just dicey all around. My son and I go pretty regularly to fish and have pretty good luck, but that is all I would ever do here. Even the hiking trails that we used to love are just getting sketchy. And camping/swimming?? Forget it, would never happen.
Clean peaceful family n pet friendly. Tables n grills for picnic. A lake to swim
This man is having a blast on a week day lol
Awesome scenery! Absolutely gorgeous!
Love this place!!
I like the trail and the grills right by the water
A midweek visit to the Black Rock State Park is quiet and enjoyable. The weekend crowds have gone. The birds are singing and the fish are jumping. A hike to the overlook brings a fabulous view of the local countryside and hills.
Enjoyed my son fishing on Opening Day
Great place for family and friends
Its a fun place 2 go on a hot day.. They have fishing, hiking, swimming, & grills & picnic tables.. It's a beautiful place & a fun day..
Quiet nice little spot. Not big enough for kayaking for long though.
