The pancake rocks cutoff is one of our very favorites! The view is amazing of the valley especially when the aspens turn. Elevation gain is serious but doable if you stay persistent and it's SO worth it!

Mindy Maulis

A little slippery with loose gravel, though first part, but very pretty!

Great hiking trail Remember, it is at altitude so pace yourself accordingly. In the mountains, so weather can change without notice and beware the sun

Good place for some photos and to stretch your legs.

Easy to miss the small parking lot on the side of road but the trail is amazing. Lightly traveled in winter, full of beautiful snow and peaceful walks. Many options from this trailhead, Pancake Rock and the Horsethief Falls. There are clearly marked trails and signs to keep you going in the right direction.

Beautiful, moderate difficulty hike up to Pancake Rocks, but the view is worth it. Not overly crowded early morning, but parking area can fill quick. Hike is up-hill so might take about 2 hours to get there depending on fitness level (took me about 90m). Bring lots of water and a good pair of shoes with good traction. Dogs are allowed.

Zlyback innex

Awesome hike! Was long and some parts are pretty steep but our 6yo made it through and loved it. We're glad we made it to the top. There weren't too many people on the trail, but a couple of them had dogs off leash, so keep that in mind.

I did horse thief falls and pancake rock, if your just doing the falls it's about 2 miles there and back and it's an easy hike 10/10 would recommend.

An amazing trail that is quiet and offers some amazing scenery. Beware of slippery rocks but worth the climb.

Kyle Kilgore

This was a beautiful hike! Love that the dogs could be off leash!

Mattgruff

Nice hike that isn't too difficult. If you want a little more challenge follow the trail until it breaks off to Pancake Rocks or continue in to the falls if you want to keep it nice and easy.

Patrick Wentzel

Nature for the win. Trail head parking can get crowded. Trails are well marked and easy to follow. There is significant incline on these trails.

Dennis Ostrander

Excellent trail. Moderate hike.

Traci Palmer

Beth Dorathy

It was very beautiful

Lawrence Vance

There's all kinds of trails to go wandering around on the view is beautiful and you just can't beat it.

Angel Thornhill

It was a good hike. The traffic is loud until you get farther from the hike. We had our 4 yr old with us and she was able to handle it. It starts out steep but then levels off. What's with people bagging up dog poop and leaving it? Like, if you're not going to take it why leave the plastic pollution? Poop by itself at least would eventually break down...so bizarre...

Dave Illingworth

Easy hike, great falls at the end.

Christina Seel

The parking for horsetheif trailhead is a bit small, but so far, I've always found a spot. The weekends might be tricky. From the trailhead, you can reach either pancake rocks or horsetheif falls. To get to both, the hike starts with a few steep switchbacks. The first time I came here, I did the pancake rock hike. For me, it was a slightly difficult but very enjoyable hike. I was definitely already hurting on the way down. The scenery changes throughout the hike which I love. Shady tree-covered paths, a running stream, steep switchbacks, open fields and various rock formations. There was still some snow on the ground a few weeks ago so it doesn't hurt to bring yaktrax. Also, I think the trail could be marked a bit better. I got confused quite a few times on the way up as did other hikers who asked me for directions on my way down. I did horsetheif falls yesterday and it's a much easier more relaxing hike. The small waterfall was cool to see at the end but don't expect anything major! My dog enjoys both of these hikes. No trash cans at the trailhead.

Pretty hike. First third is steep with loose rock, the rest has beautiful alpine meadows and interesting rock formations. The falls are worth it. Will hike again.

Ashley Triplett

Great hike for the dogs or an overnight camp.

Marcus Forelius

Had a great hike with my mom. Perfect for all abilities as what it may lose in difficulty it makes up for in scenery. We got there early and saw no one till we were headed back from pancake rocks. This would be an awesome hike year round

Fairly easy hike but lots of snow and ice at top near falls (which were frozen)

Beautiful scenery lovely hike

I was there about 4 weeks ago and the trail was pretty well defined but rough if you are not use to the incline. The little waterfalls and stream on the north side of the trail was pretty nice at the end of May, beginning of June and finding it isn't hard if you listen to the sound of the water from the trail.

Stevan Baker

If you are a flatlander like me (Texas), take a slow pace. This hike can crush you like a pancake if your not used to this activity. Take your time up to Pancake Rocks, they are great. Makes you feel like you're the king of the world. It is a HIKE. Make sure you have water. Well worth the trip.

Jonathon Murphy

Love pancake rocks! Challenging and fun hike

Logan Crain

JJ Ray

An ok trail to hike. About a mile uphill and then it flattens out. The trail is very thin and difficult to pass others in front of you.

mikesxoom

Nice hike with plenty of parking. The hike is moderate at first then flattens out. Nice meadow in the middle and the falls are nice. Yes they are not huge but very secluded. I can image horse thief's hiding here if that is in fact the story. I did it later in the day and the setting sun cast nice soft light on the area.

Erinn Miles

Great trail - but many off leash dogs : (.

Stormin Norman

Great hiking spot. Awesome views at the top with about 600 ft in elevation gain to the waterfall.

Megan Czojor

Beautiful area and a good trail to hike.

Sara Davis

Horsethief trail to Pancake rocks is a fun and scenic hike! The first two miles are a decent incline, which I was not aware of, and would have been good to know since I brought along a low altitude, out of town guest who struggled a little. But it does eventually flatten out a bit with a final short incline to the pancakes. On a clear day, you'll enjoy the view of the Rockies off in the West. There are also boulders to climb on along the trail.

Wonderful hike with spectacular views at the top! Challenging inclines, more Moderately difficult than just moderate. But well worth the hike!

an incredibly immersive experience during the Autumn time.. there are little 'pit stops' along the highway as well, that you can pull up and do what you do. great hiking spot here! this is my personal photography, yes.. be well.

Trail Vision

Beautiful trail but it was covered in snow and ice. Best used from June to September.

Dustin Blevins

By far one of my most favorite hikes in Colorado. I wish I could go more than once a week. If you have the spare time I highly recommend this hike for all levels of hikers

Really clean trail. A good 6 miles up and back, going up about 1,000 ft. Tough at some parts going up, but we were also a group of people from a much lower altitude anyways. Good sights on the way up and at the top. Would hike again.

George Jones

Fantastic, casual hike with outstanding views. Venture to horse thief falls or pancake rock!
