REVIEWS OF Dinosaur National Monument IN Colorado

Brian McEwan

It's not a huge building and you'll be done in about 30 minutes, but darnit if it's not pretty awesome to see partially dug up dinosaur bones in the hill. Definitely worth a visit in your life if you are in the area.

Markus Maurer

Great national park. The exhibition in quarry is really great. The hall is made awesome with the roof and you can even touch the bones. I can recommend this park to old and young who are interested in dinosaurs. The trails are mixed with short and long ones. Will come back.

Bill Little

We visited both the Quarry & Canyon Area visitors. Both are well worth the visit.

Jason Clegg

I have been here a dozen times over the years and I simply love the place, walking through the area and looking at the fossils really give you a sense of stepping back into time. If you never have visited, and looking for a review to understand the place, let me tell you just go and enjoy! Its absolutely beautiful and amazing.

Derek Bennett

Always a good place to get some nice rocks and look at the area. You can definitely tell this area had major activity many years ago. Although I've never seen so many Sinclair stations in one location that makes sure they have a dinasour out front but it's all good here. If you haven't already been there it's a nice new place to visit if you travel.

Eric Spotted Elk

Kid friendly place with a gregarious staff that happens know alot about dinosaurs. Fun place to visit. I wish I could stay longer.

Spencer Wilcoxson

It's a lot of fun. It's pretty and if you like hiking than there's a lot to do. It's nice because there's not a lot of people. I would recommend going here.

Joan Wagner

Awesome dinosaur quarry.. petroglyphs.. fascinating

Kris Liu

The quarry was cool and educational. The fossils still encased in the rocks was quite a sight. The quarry isn't very big, and if u want to see Colorado side, it's quite a drive.

Rick Pinson

Even without the most amazing collection of dinosaur bones, the landscape is awesome and the hiking excellent.

Jeff Lawrence

Even if not a bone /dinosaur conisuer this place is very interesting and fun to see. Really opens ones eyes to understand the time frame surrounding earth /dinosaur /human history and the millions of years in between. Highly recommend if in the area. Wouldn't drive Ross country to see it.

Kate

I had no idea how great this park would be...hasn't done the research! Get a permit to do one of the rivers. We were glad to have mosquito hats. Bugs were an issue when we went hiking to see the petroglyphs. Highly recommend a visit! We camped just outside the park. It was very hot (July) but cool in the evenings.

belinda lacoste

Great displays. Not all info is truth, byt when you know the real truth, great displays!

Gary Kowal

Be careful, the are two entrances. The better area is to the North, but Google may direct you to south entrance. DO NOT MISS going to the Quarry exhibit. A real highlight. You can take the shuttle both ways, or better yet, take the shuttle up and walk down.

Corky & Bebe

Amazing place! Great educational opportunity for all ages. We went to the viewing area, but also decided to do the hike (1 mile loop). So glad we did. It was very hot and we ran into some park employees who were so friendly. They shared their ice cold water with us.

Kourtney D Butler

Such a fun and informative place. The quarry is absolutely amazing, and the rangers and very helpful and knowledgeable!

Herb Cat

It was a cool place, but the campground sucked. There was no designated space for a tent and the ground was uneven and had a lot of clumpy grass. Ask I there were a lot of mosquitos.

Jeray Norman

Worth seeing. Very cool wall of bones in the quarry. Trails are nice.

Ivan Pais

Great place. Loved the dinosaur bones quarry. It was amazing. Also drove to Josie's cabin. Should only attempt with a 4x4. Narrow unpaved road, however the place was really good. A good place for bringing kids, even if they are not into dinosaurs. The Green River seems like a nice place, if you are into boating.

Robin Bloemendal

It was informative of another time on earth..but are they for real?

bobby abercrombie

It was a blast, if you're going to more than one park the $80 pass is worth it, I recommend taking the trail back down from the quarry it was an easy hike for people even in average shape.

Tara Baker

Great piece of history. Love that we were able to touch some of the fossils and see them up close. Wish there were even more to see. Smaller than I expected, but still really cool.

RANDY HANSON

It began about 6 years ago as a Volunteer in Park Program, and when I first arrived in April 2013 from Seattle, Washington to work in Echo Park. Astonished by the geological presence of Utah's Best National Monument and the Paleontology Museum of Dinosaur Artifacts. Now, 6 years later working at the Lodore Ranger Station on the Green River in Colorado makes it totally clear why I invest in such programs as being a Park Ranger Volunteer. Passionate about the history of our country and the knowledge gained by doing interpretation programs and river visitor services. ***** Stars!!!!

Nelson Brites

It was a very good experience. We learned a few things about dinosaurs and the kids were excited about being able to touch real dino bones. We wish we got there early to be able to go on a hike.

Brittany Schutz

What an amazing place. If you are in the area I would definetely recommend stopping by, even if only for an hour or so.

kurt bob

See dinosaur bones, background on dinosaurs from the different geologic eras since like the beginning of time, one skull is reputed to be the most intact dinosaur skull anywhere. I asked the ranger what it was worth and she said they don't give out that information. Very exciting. Of the movie in the first floor theater was good beautiful photos and narrative of the local scenery

Jim Worthington

The wilderness experience was amazing. One of my favorite National Parks.

Vickie

A walk/ drive back in time. A great place to explore and absorb the quietness of the utmost importance. To hear nature, running rivers and peace.

Zac White

Best exhibit of real Dinosaurs. Not casts. They are imbedded in a rock wall. It's just a quick tram ride from the visitors center.

Diana Richards

Facinating place. I want to go back and spend more time there.

Chris McAllister

The quarry is impressive. The rest of the park is okay. There some petroglyphs and historic sites as well.

Michael Bland

Great place to go with the kids. Took my 2 and 7 year old. We were able to walk the entire Dinosaur trail. Also visited the ranch house. It was all pretty nice. Don't forget to ask about the Jr. Ranger program in the visitors center.

Uinta Monty

Beautiful area. Dispensarys a couple miles away for your shopping needs.

Gerald Haskell

Still fun, not a lot to do and it never changes but you appreciate it more as you get older

Brian J. Rogers

The points of interest are Native American petroglyphs which made us think there were petroglyphs everywhere to see at first. Otherwise it was a great day with a lot to do and see.

M Dale

Great place for kids to get their Ranger Parks patch. The dinosaur fossils were fun and educational. Bring water and a snack because the trails can be too hot and difficult for kids to walk. There is no where to get food nearby, but the place was really cool.

Philip Robson

Really enjoyed quarry visit. Not many fossils visible on fossil walk. Interesting guided drive through park

Sheri Zuech

I used to think this place was just a hot dusty place in the middle of nowhere. Boy was I wrong! I loved my two days here. If you're a hiker, go to Harper's Corner Trail..you won't be disappointed! The quarry was neat to see also. I stayed at Split Mountain Motel in Vernal which I recommend also, it's not fancy but it's clean and inexpensive with comfortable beds.

Mark Davies

Cool park, lots too do. This was a quick stop for us but will have to get back here and spend some time.

Dawn Mitchell

Oh my goodness this place is amazing!!! So educational and stunning in every direction. The kids had a wonderful time. There is plenty to see and a lot of varying hikes you can go on to see more. There are many different rock formations, dinosaur quarry, petroglyphs, himesteads... this place doesn't allow for boredom.

Kris Turner

The quarry side is quite busy, but it's a great park. We can't wait to visit again with a 4x4 so we can explore more of the trails accessed by the more-remote, South entrance.

Jeffrey Peterson

An amazing place to visit. Grateful someone had the foresight to save the "wall of bones" for us to see. We only went to the Utah side and to see the Visitor Center and the Quarry did not take more than 1 1/2 hours. We did do the first half of the drive afterwards and were grateful we did as there are some amazing views of Split Mountain. NOTE 1: we were glad we didn't make this our only purpose for visiting as it was quick. Make sure you see the Utah Field House of Natural History Stake Park Museum and McConkie Ranch Petroglyphs. Collectively, our visit to Vernal was well worth it. (We also did a day rafting trip which was fun too). NOTE 2: Don't turn off at the first building on the right (where the long-neck is) as there is nothing to see there--unless you want a picture of the long-neck. Wait until you pass the Dinosaur National Monument large sign).

Jeff Bloemendal

It's pretty cool place to visit but I expected more.

Maria Yerena

It was great. The trolley ride was existing and the monument was nice there is also a wall that is called the wall of bones. You can see the river from the top floor of the monument. The trolley comes by every 15 mts. There is bathrooms up at the monument.

Ray Searcy

Cool place but I was expecting something bigger for the price. We enjoyed the wall of bones but it only took us 30 min to see everything. If your driving through vernal it’s worth a quick stop but I wouldn’t make it a destination you would drive miles to go see.

Shalom Severance

Super cool! Tons of outdoor adventures.

Abby Lehmann

Was expensive and not as cool as we had hoped. Fun stop if it’s along the way, but would detour for it.

Karen Brightenburg

Very educational and interesting. Informed staff. Can hike or bike or drive to most parts if the park.

Amanda Meaders

Absolutely amazing. Me and my three year old loved every minute we were here. Definitely recomend.

Sydney Shannon

So beautiful and they make it really easy to see all the fossils!

Dustin Carter

Super fun, super easy trails for kids, nice little town. Kids love it. Fun adventures for the kids.

Eric DeGroot

What a great place to see a lot of dinosaur bones in one place.

Travis Meyers

Take the kids here, they will absolutely love it! My five year old is into dinosaurs and hey was beside himself when we got here. I definitely recommend taking the 1.5 mile hike from the top to the bottom back to the visitors center: well worth it!

Chris Brussow

Unbelievable. Even if you are not that interested in dinosaurs or fossils, this is a must visit monument. Spoiler Alert! All the dinosaurs are dead. Sorry. But what they left behind will blow your mind. Ramblings with the Ranger was so awesome, I learned several new things. A very knowledgeable ranger talks about the history and formation of the site, truly fascinating.

John Adams

Amazing insight into the ancient world of dinosaurs plus incredible scenery. Hiking trails were beautiful.

Rachael Huisman

The Utah side has all the appeal due to having the dinosaur fossils. Our boys had a great time in the Quarry. There is a lot of information on the discovery and history, and it is really amazing to see the fossils still in the rock wall. We enjoyed exploring most of the sights in the Utah side before making the long drive to the Colorado side. The CO side is a lot of driving! We were able to see most everything in one day, but in hindsight I wished I would have made this a 2 day trip. There are many hiking trails I wished we could have explored, but time did not allow. We did one trail in each side, Box Canyon and one of the trails by Steamboat Rock down in Echo Park. The park is so beautiful and scenic.

Lynette Loew

Everyone should visit. Incredible wall of dinosaur fossils, plus petroglyphs, pictographs and amazing rock formations. Save up and do a guided rafting trip too

Kimberly Abeyta

Fun for the family. The price is decent and had great hiking

Jim Bagley

Dinosaur National Monument is a delightful experience to discover the wonder of giant creatures from a long passed epic of time. Your kids will love it here getting a chance to see life size replicas and real fossils. This part of Utah and Colorado are a geologic wonderland full of colorful rock formations and breathtaking scenery. The Monument does an excellent job of interpreting natural and human history from the dinosaurs to the pioneers of the modern residents. You can spend more than an hour at the dinosaur quarry. There are petroglyphs and homestead cabins to discover as you wander through the park. Nearby Vernal Utah has great hotels and restaurants catering to visitors. Make time to explore this fascinating part of the American landscape. Your friends and family will all become dinosaur fans.

Robert Koch

If you or anyone in your family likes dinosaurs, this is a must see. Visitors can examine the wall of the quarry where many dinosaur bones were excavated, and view a large number of bones left in place. The park itself is beautiful in the desolate sort of way many places out West are.

Lawrence M Law

It's always amazing to me how this Earth has so many strange and amazing things in it. Dinosaur bones are one of these. Why are they not roaming the earth today and why are animals not like them anymore. Adaptation? Not really. Doesn't fit. Anyway, Jeni and went to Vernal Utah and saw dinosaur bones that were just amazing. Tons of bones and I think it was 17 full dinosaurs removed and assembled in museums around the nation from this one spot. Amazing.

C Fisher

Hate to say it, but not incredibly impressed. I was hoping to see dinosaur prints in various parts of the park, but the Utah side is the only side you see any fossils. If you are a hiker this area is beautiful, but if you want dinosaurs, spend one day on the Utah side and leave.

Hope Smith

Great ranger talk by Sonya at Quarry Hill -- fortunate to have her as Supervisor! Excellent visit!

Angela Drake

If you love natural history, this park's full wall of dinosaur bones is a must see. We also enjoyed dozens of petroglyphs along the car tour and wish we had more time to hike at least one of their many trails. Park staff was super helpful and very informative.

Scott Hinckley

This place is amazing! Great for kids and adults alike! They rebuilt the building housing the bone wall some years back, so it's a little different if you went prior to about 2006. I went as a kid in the 90's, just took my son - still the same awesome experience. I highly recommend the quarry exhibit - you can actually touch real dinosaur bones! Can't say enough about how awesome this place is, my son's mind was blown :-)

Laura Houston

Always a great place to visit! Lots of info and beautiful scenery

Lauren Hendricks

This place is absolutely worth a stop. The scenery is breathtaking and the fossils are fascinating. Make a stop at the Quarry -- it wasn't what I expected, and it was one of the coolest interpretive sites I've ever been to. Whether you're interested in geology, human history, or ecology, you'll see something cool!!

Michael Roberts

Love that there's less crowds than the big national parks, some great hikes and lots of interesting things to see and do. Lots of resources nearby in Vernal as well so that was particularly nice.

Darrell Kevin Swain

The fossils were kind of old but loved it regardless.

n edwards

A small but informative museum that's got a lot of dinos. The quarry wall is amazing to see in person. It is very hot there with limited shade outside, so bring water and a hat.

Randi Custer

I mean, real dinosaurs, lots of them. It is hot to camp here. Hiking is nice. You park at the visitors center. They have a nice film and museum there. You catch the open air shuttle, (it has a high step up) saving you driving and parling twice, plus they pick you up and let you off at the door. The quarry has great interactive displays to help locate and explain the wall of bones. There are places for children to touch real dino bones on the wall. A wonderful experience. If you raft, this is Mecca.

J N

Beautiful place to get away from crowds and top enjoy the high desert.

Craig Winkler

Great hiking and lots of beautiful desert landscapes. It gets very hot in the summer so plan for lots of water and bring a good wide brimmed hat and don't forget the sunscreen. The little town just outside the park is sparsely populated but friendly locals.

Maja Rellaford

They have a few wonderful and easy hikes. The dinosaur bones are really cool and the rangers were very kind and well informed.

Becky Roebling

Had a wonderful day! Auto tour was great! Exhibit hall and fossil trail hike so much fun... had a great guide that made the hike so enjoyable! Will bring grandkids next time!

Carole Simpson

Love the dino fossil wall. Pretty cool. Allow kids to touch a couple of real fossils.

Will Thompson

Amazing. The fossil wall in the centre is unbelievable. Fantastic walks. I need to come back as the park is massive

Corby B.

What a great place to learn about our past. Great dinosaur Quarry to visit. Could spend hours looking at all the fun things. Amazing we have such a treasure to come and see.

Rick Heil

A truly unique Park with focus on the actual excavation site, with over 2000 fossilized bones showing, and exhibits explaining how they came to be. Nice easy hike around the visitor center where you can tmore fossils 'in the wild'. There are a few short drives and a handful of hikes... But it's really just about the museum. Worth a visit for sure, nothing else like it in the park system. The towns around offer some extra entertainment and some pretty decent dining as well.

Matthew- Craft

Loved this place, it was incredibly fun to see real dinosaur bones. It's amazing how small these monsters truly were. Great tour, and even better informational movie.

Claire H

Unfortunately, we got there a little late and all the dinosaurs were dead by this point. However, their bones were fascinating!! We loved the petroglyphs hike also. Great vacation stop if you enjoy history.

Diana Arencibia

I visited here September 2017. I wasn't sure what to expect from this park and really just came here because it was along the way to where I was going, but I ended up loving it! The museum is nice. For me, the hiking trails were beautiful and peaceful, as if you were the only one there. You can also get a guide booklet to different locations you drive to. I have many fond memories of Dinosaur National Monument and am really glad I ended up visiting on a whim!

Chuck Larlham

Our Senior Lifetime Federal Parks pass helped us avoid the $25.00 per care fare to visit. A shuttle that runs every 15 minutes took us to the quarry. Upon our return we visited the Information Center/Gift Shop before we left, where we picked up a couple of things for my grandsons.

Nikhil R

Great place to see real dinosaur bones as they were discovered in the ground. There is also a scenic drive of about 1.5 to 2 hours with breathtaking landscapes and petroglyphs. Finally plenty of hiking trails and camping locations within the park. All in all, it is a great place to visit.

Jay Harris

The Dinosaur National Monument Visitor Center is a nice overview of the area and its history. We thought that the gift shop had many great items to take home to remember the visit with.

David Gleason

Awesome views. Great hikes. Petroglyphs as a must see in addition to the fossils.

Kayla Benson

Brought my nephew for his fourth birthday. The Discovery Hike was perfect! Very easy and open. Feeling the fossils was the highlight of his life. He asked if we could live here.

Lucas Burson

Great fossil quarry. Hella hot in summer but the quarry is indoors and comfortable.

Nila Bair

We loved going here. There was a lot of beautiful views and cool things to see, like dinosaur bones and petroglyphs. The visitor center had some useful information about the area and gave a great breakdown of what to see dependent upon the time you have available to explore. Brought my little 2 year old daughter and 13 year old niece and it was a great time for all of us.

marlie lukach

Iconic place to visit with some nice trails. Just be careful as it can get really hot in the summer. I would recommend hiking in the early morning

Ray Steele

Bigger and better than I remembered. My 16 year old boys loved it too.

MaryJo Fischer

Scenery, hikes, and petroglyphs on both the Utah and Colorado sides exceeded expectations! Each trail surprised us with its own unique beauty. The Green River Campground placed down in a valley of huge Cottonwood(?) trees offers beautiful scenery on the river and plenty of well maintained sites. Although available, no reservations are usually needed. It rarely fills. Every ranger we met gets a A+ for their friendliness and knowledge about geology and dinosaur artifacts! The bone quarry was a must-see but we are still hunting for The Shy Stegosaurus... a favorite book from the 1950s :)

Eric Turnquist

Pretty cool to see a whole lot of dinosaur bones. Free

Ben Brody

Amazing fossils and so interesting, loved being able to be so close to then and in some cases touch them

Vasant Agrawal

Dinosaur National monument is a great place to see and touch actual Fossils of giant dinosaurs. To see the dinosaur fossils you have to go to the Dinosaur Quarry visitor center in Jensen Utah, from here you will take a shuttle to the Dinosaur Quarry where you will see real dinosaur fossils. From the visitor center You can also take a short scenic drive to see some petroglyphs and split mountain

Ryan Snyder

Great place to see dinosaur bones in their natural setting.

Donald Seher

Always a fun stop. The quarry is amazing and has interactive displays. You can touch an actual dinosaur fossil. The hiking trails are great as well. I look forward to camping there and exploring the dark skies.

Harry Myer

Wonderful in situ wall of bones and informative rangers and displays.Touch some real bones. Jurassic period for the dinosaurs. Many replicas assembled. Several programs available. Nice gift shop. Free shuttle from visitor center to exhibition hall let's you enjoy the rock formations.

Caymon Ashwood

A stunningly beautiful park with lots to offer for all ages. The fossil building was an amazing sight to behold. A must see for anyone who loves both dinosaurs & nature. Pokemon Go tourism notes: The park has around 5 stops and a gym at the top in the fossil wall building.

Ernie Johnson

Echo Park Campground is a nice pretty secluded campground, great views of different formations. Road in is good, but rough and steep, it recommended no passenger vehicles, but saw several in the park, a good set of tires is probably best, trailers of longer lengths, definitely not a good idea as the switch backs are super sharp. saw a couple of the more all terrain type trailers, (9-12') those are manageable. can get a bit breezy, bugs weren't terrible, a few in the evening. fire rings, picnic tables on each, and sites were pretty flat and ranged from full sun sites to full tree canopy cover.

David Quintana

This place is very cool and has beautiful views and a lot of history, the dinosaurs are on the Utah side of the park and as of 9-12-19 the cost is 25 to enter but if you like dinosaurs or have little ones with you, it's worth every penny, the entrance fee is good for 7 days and we went back 3 times, take a good camera.

Tiffany Rughoonundon

This place is amazing. It was incredible seeing dinosaur bones at the quary and in the rocks while walking on some of the trails. It was also nice to see so many petroglyphs.

Rachel Stocks

Very interesting for new comers and little kids. If you want to hike the trails make sure to bring alot of water.

Rhonda Mills

DinosaurNP is perhaps one of America’s most under-appreciated parks. We love it for its world-class scenic beauty and opportunities for solitude, as well as its prehistoric past. It’s our fourth visit to this park and it certainly won’t be our last!

Robin Lynn Boyd

VERNAL UTAH and this awesome monument is beautiful. However not dog friendly. They are as a matter of fact verry unfriendly towards all animals including fully trained, legal and its a Law in the USA service dogs have rights as do the disabled they assist. So Circe and I found a spot with shade and few ants to wait for the hubby. We had a lot of company out in the 88° am desert. Bring water! Clean bathroom. Dont let your 4 legged helpers off the cement.. grounds are unkempt!

Pam Gramse

Love this place however I'm enthralled with dinosaurs and the discovery of their bones.

Five Dogs Ranch

4.5 Stars! I’m grateful they left those bones in place for us to be able to see and learn from. The facilities were clean and well maintained. The rangers were all very friendly and answered all our questions well. It isn’t the biggest Dino exhibit, but it lived up to our expectations. We made the trip to see the petroglyphs, it isn’t around the corner, so be prepared to make a little drive and when you think your lost, just keep going and you’ll, If on the right road, come back into the National Monument area and then a little farther and the sign will point you in the right direction. It’s a bummer people have to deface and damage the petroglyphs, but they’re right there and you can walk right up to them.

Wade Bennington

As always, love our preserved national parks and monuments. Thanks to all the amazing staff and park rangers!
