REVIEWS OF Humboldt Redwoods State Park IN California

Kathy Corrion

Absolutely beautiful redwoods camping. Calm and powerful, these giants protect and remind us how there is so much more outside of our daily life. Great programs to learn and engage in the environment. Junior Rangers, educational walks/hikes, campfire program. This state park has it all. Look forward to future visits.

Lisa Sutherland

This was the best redwood forest we visited. It's an old growth forest and was really cool to see the felled trees. Many really massive trees, lovely well maintained paths. We saw a deer who didn't seem scared by us at all. Bring bug spray!!!

Sherry Michel

Absolutely beautiful place. Speed limit too high for the area, but lots of areas to pull over. Paths to walk. Little shops and coffee shops dot the path. Loved that it wasn't far from the highway. I'll be back to go camping!

Lisa Williams

Beautiful drive thru the most majestic trees on the planet. Lots of places to pull over and get pictures.

Bodhi Ench

I grew up here. This is why I come back. This park is soooooo my home; I lived amongst it, I went to school in the shadow of these trees, and Larry Eifert's artwork in the old park brochures inspired me to become an artist!

Laura Newland

This was by far one of my favorite stops on my way to Eureka. The paths were well maintained and clean. I had a very peaceful hike though the redwoods!

Si Keating

This place is magical... Did you know star wars was filmed in these woods? Around every corner there is something new and exciting to find.

Jonathan Hopkins

It's OK but there are more impressive parks

Kelly B

Wow, this place is huge. great for hiking and exploring. definitely need to drive through with your windows down.

Aislin Steill

A real contender for one of the most beautiful places on Earth. An incredoble place to feel that you belong to it, rather than vice verse, and one that made one of my fellow visitors say "This, THIS is my church."

Josh Megli

Was a great experience! The air smelt fresh. Very little traffic in the park. On the road I only saw a few cars over at one time. The Avenue of the Giants was amazing. I highly recommend it. There are plenty of trails to do inside the park. The ones we did, did not have much elevation change. The scenery was so beautiful. there were quite a few different types of wildflowers blooming. They’re nothing like they are in Southern California right now but they were very pretty. This summer bridges have not been installed so crossing the river was not possible at this time of year. just in case you’re wondering the drive-through trees are not inside the park to my knowledge. They are on private property.

Anh Nguyen

What can I say. Amazing park, amazing trees. So many trails for any level. You can hike even if you have only half an hour. Definitely recommend this.

Kourtney D Butler

Very cool place to explore. Super neat information in the visitors center. Make enough time to stay for a few hours.

Justin Case

Awesome Majesty of plants older than Christmas... Awe inspiring truly a sensual and spirtiual experience unmatched by most available to the average American. Every time I come back to this park.

Dolores Cudia

Husband grew up in this area Jewett Valley. As we pass the beautiful trees he tells me that he passed them every day going going to school. Which took them an hour and half. This time we stopped and walked about the wonder of the Redwoods.

Christine J

Beautiful! Great staff.. Thank you for making our trip there even better!

Scott Snyder

What an awesome place. Pictures do not do it justice. I could have spend hours walking through the Redwoods. We met some wonderful people walking through the Redwoods from California, Utah and North Carolina. So exciting to see so many enjoying grandness of the Redwoods.

C Jax

The giant Redwoods are stunning. The tree tops come together to form a shaded cove so while driving down the Avenue of the Giants transforms you into a peaceful and serene adventure

Richard Moller

It was so very beautiful and the Redwoods were awesomely majestic.

Bunny Pi

Wish we had been able to walk around, we were on a group trip, and our group leaders were unable to "keep the pace". Beautiful majestic trees. Much to learn about the redwoods and the history after visiting. Must visit again and explore on our own.

Wade Harris

The most beautiful place in the world the people are good people genuinely hard-working good knowing people makes look at yourself and wonder what you've done to go so wrong

Colin Ransdell

Great park. Nice campsites. Friendly rangers. Great hiking trails.

Heidi Pfeifle

Can't wait to go back and do the Junior ranger program with my kids.

Damian Bramlett

This is by far my favorite state park in CA. I try to visit at least once a year and campout for a few days. The campsites are pretty clean, the fees are very reasonable, and the rangers are very friendly. I highly recommend visiting HRSP if you're ever on Northern CA. You won't be disappointed!

Andrew Robertson

Soooooo peaceful, a place to slow down and just appreciate natural beauty

Well worth the time to explore this old growth forest. Lots of turn outs, explanatory signs, discover nature app to get closer. Huge trees that, thankfully, have been saved and never logged.

Garrett Hodges

Coming from Washington State, I didn’t think we’d see anything that would put us in awe. Worth the drive and worth the time coming out here.

Kenny McQueen

Jaw dropping trees, I know I said trees

Richard Schlarb

Such a beautiful forest! I don't really know how to put into words what you would feel if you were to visit this area. Definitely brings me back to my childhood living in Mendocino Redwoods... the trees are still amazing which is a good thing because these are absolutely some of the most historic redwoods in the world so some of them predate Christ it's absolutely an amazing place if you want to have it literally nearly it a religious experience this is the place to go.

Kurt Dickason

300+' tall Redwoods. Several trails from a short walk (< 1/2 mi) to a 6 mi hike. Very picturesque in mid morning.

Adam Gray

Absolutely incredible park with great camping sites. The views inside the camping area itself were well worth the stay. Park attendants were extremely helpful and very polite. Would love to visit this site again in the future.

joyce marino

Lovely quiet campground nestled among the redwoods. A little close to the highway but not crowded as it just recently re-opened. Very clean.

Sherry Oliveri

Absolutely glorious! I wish I could have stayed for days, but could only visit for a few hours. This visit will stay with me forever!

Nick Dutton

Great views. Stopped often to take a look around. Lots of little camp sites in the trees for those looking to stay there for a while. As always, if you found this review useful please remember to like it. If people like the review (whether you agree or not), it encourages me to write more ;)

Lupo Grigio

Pictured is eel creek, it would be a nice place to cool off is it had more flow, the creek is choked with algae and moss, but the water is teaming with all forms of life, including fish.

Stephanie Regni

We are on vacation in the area and this state park was our first stop. It's a must see. Take the Avenue of the Giants and enjoy the ride through the beautiful redwoods. Learn about it at the visitor center. We loved it so much that we're going again on our way back!

Ellen Winters

This is an extremely amazing and humbling place to be. A great place for quiet reflection. Lots of places to stop by for great photos, especially Founding Park.

Tami T

Ok place along the road. Few sites big enough for my 25' rv, roads VERY narrow, no dump station. Drinking water only. No dogs on trails. Beautiful trees but campground with little privacy and sone road noise.

michele blaisdell

The trees "WOW"..great drive, beautiful to look at. Smells fresh...love the atmosphere!

adolf hitler

An amazing place to drink a brew and gander at river rock and nature.

Mary Miller-Estrada

The Redwoods are AMAZING!!! They are like family should be. They intertwine they're roots under ground & actually support each other. The large coastal Redwoods drink up enough water in the winter 2 water themselves and everything under them.

Karsten Hansen

What a beauty! Such a marvelous and overwhelming nature! We had a really wonderful day, if you have the opportunity to visit that park, ... DO IT!

Jim Smith

An amazing spot on this amazing planet. I could roam around here for years in awe of these majestic trees.

Rocketman McFodder

Beautiful campground, close river access, cute chipmunks, awesome ADA sites.

Gustav Erlank

We hiked the 8mile Bulls Creek loop, just a perfect half day activity to experience the best of this old growth redwood forest. A truly magical outing.

Merrill Smith

This is the place to see the Redwood trees. The Avenue of the Giants is a very special bit of road. The majesty of the trees is set off by the location. The few pull offs along the way are ideal for walls to see the trees. Also a visitor centre with all the information, gifts or essentials you might need.

Jill Kurtz

Wonderful drive though the tall trees. Don't plan to make time because the road meanders among the trees instead of laying out the road from point A to B laying out a straight line and cutting down every redwood that happens to land on that line they instead chose to meander the road around and between the trees. It was sort of like floating down a curving river. Chil out and enjoy the ridw.

William Smith

Great place to visit with pleanty of opportunities for pictures, picnics and quiet surrounding.

PJ B

This is a must see. Soo amazing

Todd Scott

Giant trees! They're bigger than you think and the wonder of them must be seen at least once in a lifetime. The eel river is a beautiful riverflanked by some of the best forests in the world.

Emily Pacheco

Amazing and wonderful. We visited the visitors center and brought a picnic. There are lots of hikes of varying difficulty for every skill level. My kids and teenagers both had a great time. It's lovely and peaceful in the Redwoods. Just be sure to bring bug spray! The mosquitos were tenacious and plentiful. The little shop sells bug spray for a small fortune in a tiny bottle, so bring your own!

tntragan

Amazing views of amazing trees. Visitor center was great. Went on a guided walk from the visitor center and was very pleased with her knowledge and experience. A must see.

Joshua Cottrell

Me and my family just love being out there in the wilderness and seeing the river and seeing all the big trees out there very stress relieving and gorgeous

Davlyn Garver

If you have never experienced the beauty of a Redwood forest, then it should definitely be on your bucket list. There are trails to hike through that are breathtaking and help you realize how wonderful our world can make you feel.

Scott Neurauter

These are some big trees! And old.... Very neat to see. Take some time, get off the beaten path and take a look around. They are simply magnificent! Highly recommend viaiting any of the redwoods.

Connor Wood

Beautiful place. Visitors center was very friendly and informative, with prices for souviners being surprisingly cheap. Avenue of the giants is a must see! The campground was beautiful. Each campsite has a bear box and fire pit. The only downside was that you needed quarters to shower and we didn't have any quarters. Overall 5 stars.

Janiece Gwynn

This was so impressive! The trees were magnificent!

Ian Machen

It’s one of many many favorites in the area great camping and hiking.

underdog5004

Hard to access. Long drive from town. Lots of beachfront, river front ocean front. Kayaking. Hiking. Bathrooms at the parking lot. Camping available too.

Gabriela Monge

It was a really nice experience. I love it

John Graf

Gorgeous area. Awe inspiring. Wonderful place to relax and relieve stress.

Stacy Hayes

Unbelievable. This park is absolutely fabulous. World's cannot describe how amazing the redwoods really are. We visited a few parks on our trip and this park was one of my favorites. The Avenue of the Giants is breath taking and driving thru this park was a highlight of my trip. I highly recommend you visit if you can. You will not be disappointed!

YLesaMarie

The Humboldt Redwood Forest was definitely tremendous! The Avenue of The Giants was a fantastic detour rather than staying on the 101. It had a few roadside attractions, campsites and rest areas along the 30+ mile ride. The traffic is light and most will turn out to let the locals pass through while letting the tourists take it easy to admire the beautiful trees and plant life. There's river access in several places so you can park for a swim or just to have a rest before getting back on the road. There are picnic tables as well as outhouse style restrooms. No running water to wash your hands so bring your own or use hand sanitizer. Pack out any trash you bring in. Great places to walk your dogs and star gaze at night if you find a nice clearing in the trees. It's much cooler than the inland areas and can be foggy or overcast. Dress in layers. There's no real services along the route only a small local town and post office with maybe one gas station $$$. It's a great place to drive through or spend a couple days of you can afford and find an open campsite. There's big foot attractions and a "drive through" tree. I highly recommend visiting

XYZ ZYX

Hey, you should totally check out Humboldt redwoods State Park. it is one of the most awesome state parks you could ever imagine. You will not believe the height of the trees they are like the tallest trees on the whole planet oh my gosh I just couldn't believe it and there's all sorts of awesome places to hike around there and you'll just want to come back again. Yeah totally you should go to this State Park

Desirae Inman

An amazing trail in an amazing place. You feel as though you have stepped into a fairytale. See many majestic redwoods, find a respite from the heat, or hike for exercise... this place meets varied needs. There is an excellent fruit stand just down the road where you can enjoy blackberry popsicles after that wonderful hike. Easy access, great for families. You will not be disappointed, an excellent stop along the Avenue of the Giants with for a picnic.

Brian Bettencourt

This is a beautiful place to go. The Redwood trees are beyond amazing !!

Ali Massey

We were on our way to Eureka. Used to live up there ...a beautiful place.

Leslie Hofelich

The most amazing place the trees will take your breath away. Don't forget your camera. Lots of places to pull over and be amazed. Our grand boys and pups love the avenue of the giants.

Ramun McCallum

The Redwoods are truly an amazing sight. There are many, many, many miles of trails to enjoy. You won't be disappointed. No where else in the world do trees get this big. It's hard to get a sense of scale, since all the trees are giant, they tend to look normal sized in pictures. But when you're there, you will feel truly small. These trees demand our respect and our care. Once these giants are gone, they will not be back. Visit these woods, walk amongst them.

Dan

Did a quick drive thru, but a great place to spend time hiking and enjoying nature.

Billy Ray Davenport

Amazing beautiful. Such a great place to visit. Was number one on my bucket list. Checked!

Bre Ximenes

Pictures dint do it justice. My 11 yeast old son and I had many adventures in the Redwoods...go to all of them. ..you won't be disappointed. .. Pack a picnic and enjoy. Please remember to pack out what you bring in. It's amazing, mesmerizing. .. just breathtaking! Go on an adventure and get to feel small. ..like a kid, amongst the Giants!

Ron Vered

Magnificent forest with large Coast Redwoods. Opportunity to enjoy the Eel river. Multiple trails, some wheelchair accessible. Camping is also available. Be ready for some mosquitoes.

Christopher Jones

Gorgeous landscape, postcard everywhere you look. Nature at its finest!

Heather Denman

Very educational. I'm glad we're preserving the red wood history.

Glenn Meyer

Anyone who loves nature will have to stop here. This is where the giants dwell, awe-inspiring, very peaceful, sentinels of the ages.

Jeffrey Zabinski

Redwoods were awe inspiring. 363 feet tall, and look how small a person looks in comparison. One of our best trips ever!

Mitch London

Favorite Redwood Grove! Everytime we come back there is more to see.

eekabaab

This whole county is gorgeous. This place is no exception. The touristy areas are definitely a thing of the past, like something straight out of an 80's family movie.

Greg Dinunzi

Beautiful place to see. Take a guided tour for great info!

Catherine Casallas

Avenue of the Giants! What a name for a road in a forest. Everything is said. Backpack and get ready to go from trail to trail. If you want to camp there, book in advance. The crossing in car lasts half an hour from end to end. However I recommend at least one full day

Christina Seiler

This state park has to be one of the most unique areas in the world!!!! From the amazing drive along the avenue where giant Redwoods seem to leap out along the road, to being able to walk amongst the giants themselves. The river access is amazing during those warm summer days and perfect for a cool refreshing swim or laying on the warm river rocks soaking up the sun.

Lauren Ramtahal

The best thing is driving along the Avenue of the Giants. You can drive along the entire road for a very scenic route and it was connect you back with the highway at the end. There are also other paid for activities that you can do

Kendra Haken

Beautiful park. Could spend days trying to hike all the trails

Balaji G.

A beautiful serene Redwoods park.. will definitely recommend visiting in the morning ard sunrise... Lies in the Avenue of the Giants scenic alternative to US 101

The avenue of giants was impressive to say the least. I was able to drive my car through a redwood and feeling the energy the redwoods put off is therapeutic. Oldeat and largest trees in america a must see for all travelers

Beautiful experience! This is the best location to see and feel the redwoods. It makes you feel so small!!

Rachael Heller

The California redwoods are an ancient species to be found nowhere other than right here! This 26 mile scenic detour of Avenue of the Giants is absolutely worth the extra time in a drive. Be sure to stop at some of the local shops and bars along the way if you are looking for a bite and a bit of local culture! Seriously: Do. Not. Miss.

Desiree Sheely

Loved this park. Lots of trails to hike and a beautiful area! Bathrooms are on site as well as parking. Really cool displays inside the information center as well as photos and an educational video on the area.

Carol Heesen

Such a beautiful place to picnic, hike or just be. If you can't hike, there is lots to see just driving through the avenue of the Giants. Go, enjoy, quiet your soul

Ron Plasse

There's a lot of spectacular coast redwood groves. There's also very nice State camp grounds.

Lorenzo Z Tartaglia

Absolutely, an extraordinary experience to behold the magnificence of the wonders of Nature.

Christopher Gris

Amazing place to go for a hike or camp. The great size of the redwoods is always breathtaking.

Nicole Otero

This place has some of the biggest Redwoods you'll see on the coast. It also has a great array of tours and talks for families or anyone who wants to learn more about the parks. Avenue of the Giants is a staple and Volunteers give excellent ideas of places to stop along the way. There is even a Giant Sequoia and a Dawn Redwood right outside the VC. didn't see the campgrounds but the grounds and activities were wonderful!

Martin. Wilkins.

Really awesome place to see. Well worth the road trip to drive.

Thunder Cloud

It's always a pleasure coming back to the place that I was introduced to as a kid. I love this part of the country and yearn to live near here.

Vivian Dore

Absolutely beautiful back roads of America. Hey people, get off the freeway, phones, and all electronics. Open your eyes. See our great country before it's gone.

Lezlie Ramsey

The atmosphere is pine scented, open and airy, with plenty of redwood groves to walk through. This is the largest contiguous forest of redwoods in the country. Great place for kids and adults to see the tallest trees in the world.

Brittany Thomas

Beautiful park! We could spend days here! We didn't have a chance to go on any of the hikes but they look amazing. The driving trail is awesome and breath taking. There are lots of camp grounds and places to stay. I definately plan on coming back one day!

Erin Jackson

The most breathtaking forest I've ever seen! It's almost other-worldly

Tiffany Lirones

Along the Avenue of Giants we stopped for some photographs and a quick walk. Really impressive to see these trees and this Forest in person!

Jeff Summers

After living out east for a while it's nice to be back in Northern California to enjoy some truly pristine woods. It was great to be able to feel like a little kid climbing over trees. I swear big foot was going to pop up any minute.

Shannon Belk

We had so much fun. So many trees and trails. If your a nature person I recommend you checking it out.

Tawnya Tate-Tomlin

Absolutely beautiful and stunning campground. Clean and very spacious sites. Laundry and showers available. No cost for shower. The small office sells laundry detergent if needed. Large open common area for yard games. Highly recommended.

Stacie Satery

This is a beautiful park with so many highlights that are easily accessible like the Founder's Tree and the Dyerville Giant. Folks at the visitor center are incredibly helpful and knowledgeable! Be sure to drive along the Avenue of the Giants after you finish and stop by Flood Plain Produce to pick up some delicious, organic fruits and veggies.

Richard Culp

I loved it. I didn't think a head, should have brought camping gear. I hear the really big red woods are around San Francisco.

Brianna Martinez

It was so beautiful and relaxing. The trees are huge and gorgeous, lots to do around here and a wonderful site to see.

Barbara Watkins

One of the best state parks we have been to! Loved the Ancient Giant Redwoods! Founder's Grove was a must stop!

Dennis Miller

Towering redwood trees everywhere. Many times they are so close to the road and so close together that they almost block all the light. The visitors center was very good with many displays. They had a cross section of a tree that started growing in 1000 AD and significant historical events were identified by the growth ring when they occurred. Driving the Highway of Giants was a real treat and several of the nature trails gave you a great view of forest ecology. Walking thru the woods reminded me of the forest moon or Endor , oh wait it was filmed there (The Return of the Jedi).

Nisarg Shah

Great place with amazing redwood forest and amazing views. Good place for camping we used the Albee Creek campground which was a great facility with clean and well maintained services like bathrooms showers etc. It was a short hike away from a river bank. Highly recommended for summer camping as temperatures are pleasant.

Agnes Krammer

If you are on the Northern California coast this is a MUST! Driving right through the midst of giant redwoods....they are literally growing on the edge of the road! Don't miss the Visitor Center either!

Ruth Hendrix

This is a wonderful place to commune with nature and it will blow your mind.

April Teran

It was amazing! Loved everything. Nature is amazing.

Daniel DeNeve

35 dollars for a car camping site at Burlington campground. There were bear boxes at each campsite. The fire pits are the best, standing high above ground with a detachable grill grate that was sturdy and easy to cook on. Bathrooms were clean with showers. There was no hand soap though, so make sure you bring it with you. We found a spot south of Burlington, right before the river hooks around the bend, where we could go down into the river for a swim, which was beautiful.

Marty Pavlik

Take the alternative scenic route. Also get off of the highway and visit the Lady Bird Johnson Grove.

Ken Russell

This is a great place . There are walking trails. You can read about individual trees . The people that made them famous. The trees are unbelievably big. Until you walk under and around them you won't believe them. Plan on touching them. Feeling the bark. And looking up into the sky to see their tops.

Lynne Deaton

Why would you not love the Redwoods it's a shame that they cut the other 500 miles of redwoods out of our lives forever please go see these magnificent redwoods are here with the Dinosaurs enjoy you will love it

Laura Huber

Love the Redwoods!! Such a great place to go to with family and friends.

Rick. Perrigo

The redwoods are the most amazing place in our state in my option. The days have a strange pace as the sun doesn't come out till noon. Most mornings have a thick marine layer, I now live full time in Trinidad and never felt better about my environment.

Kav Mann

It's like going back to the beginning of time and walking around with God. Makes me cry just thinking about it. I never wanted to leave and I wish I was there now. I can't believe people cut them down. God bless the people that saved the ones that are left, especially the ones that gave there lives to save them, Judy Berry, Gypsy Chain, the list is long. Thank you so much, true worriers.

Marshall OT

Beautiful park with lots of things to see. Well maintained easy trails and more difficult ones available. Lots of swimming areas as well on the eel river!

Afterskies

Great place to visit with family on a weekend and week day. Theres a beautiful river crystal clear during the summer you can go in and swim in it and with lots of other locations on the road you can stop by an view the scenes. The trees are huge and beautiful. Theres a camp site as well and lots of nature to go around. For those people traveling around the 101 beware theres black bears and mountain lions. There should be posted signs on the road but theres none but do know there are out there in the wild.

Fredrick Jose antony cruz

It is one best places to see redwood forests.. you can see different type of redwoods.. virgin.. new... forest with ferns... Eel river beds... small cute towns,., really enjoyed the drive every time.... luv this place...

Matt Fox

This is an absolutely amazing forest. Lots of public access to trails and parking to enjoy the beautiful scenery.

Johnny Rieke

sights were small and gravel. lots of people living at the park. has a lot of things avalible and the store was great. the only reason for the 2 stars were we camped by some people in tents that were loud and had lots of kids running around.

Hamilton Collins

The LORD sure has left awe inspiring beautiful creations and the state park does a fantastic job of making them available.

william baker

Amazing! Great views, lots of trees! Many places to view and helpful people.

What an amazing part of the world. This park is full of trails to casually stroll through the woods and marvel at these ancient giants.

Laurie Colestock

Belinda Preset

I love northern California. Absolutely beautiful.

Amit Jain

This must to do when you are in this area, Avenue of Giants, 32 miles, pass through the park, it is self Auto Tour. Many hikes on the road, lots of information is available. This reminds how was the world before logging these forest. When we drove it was bright sunny outside and on the this rods all shade and cool. Many places has river view on this road, eating, gift shops are also on this road in this Humboldt Redwood Park.

Turner J

The service is constantly efficient, awesome ambience, very nice staff. I will return again when I get nearby.

K Ande

It's amazing. Coming from Oregon, we're used to pretty big trees and temperate rainforest but these surpassed anything we've seen. It's worth it just to drive through. We used the info center as a stretch break and did a very short walk through the forest in the other side of the road.

Taren Wilhelm

Bucket list...check! Absolute must see! I've wanted to see the redwoods since hearing about them as a kid in school. No book can do them justice. So impressive to drive along the Avenue of the giants and see the massive trunks and trees along the roadside. Plenty of spots to pull off the road to take a closer look, plaques to read more info, and self-guided tour option too. Even though it is "just trees," there is nothing else like it. This was my favorite part of the drive from WA to FL and I'd love to go back again.

Hugh Robinson

My daughter and I were traveling and did not have a destination in mind we were very happy to be able to find a spot to camp on a beautiful Friday afternoon without reservations. Upon inquiring at the Welcome Center the staff was very friendly and courteous and was able to give us a map with several unoccupied sites and we were able to find a beautiful isolated spot without a reservation. The section we were in was completely devoid of RVs because of the road conditions and we as tent campers were thrilled about that. So, very quiet and peaceful with no engine or generator noise and/ or ambient light. Had a wonderful night.

dawn goodpaster

Go just after 5 when the crowds are gone for the day. Amazing!

David Ekstrom

Really really big trees. I feel like an ant walking through them. Definitely worth seeing.

Weston Trapp

Any proper redwood grove is an absolute “must see” once in your life. Humboldt is a great example and a very well maintained and managed park!
