Beautiful place. You can learn alot about history here

Arkansas had it's beginnings here in the big river country of southeast Arkansas, so The Post is a haven for history buffs. The grounds and waters are also a haven for a wide variety of wildlife including Bald eagles, alligators, deer, bears, nutrias and much more. Plan some time in the visitor center to learn more.

A very remote National Park Service unit, Arkansas Post National Memorial commemorates the first European settlement built in what is now Arkansas. The site consists of a visitor center, town site and a few short nature trails. The place can be explored in an hour-90 minutes max.

A well organized and polite staff combined with a surprisingly well done video for this modern era made me stay at the center for longer than I expected. Be aware there is a state park that is much less exciting very near and much less exciting (thus not to be confused), so come here. Lots to see, good video summary of the history and markers for the Civil War fort location (under the river but showed where and great details). Would recommend fully if you're interested in French and Indian history or US civil war and passing through with some time on your hands.

AWESOME ARKANSAS HISTORY~ My dad started taking me & my cousins there as children, I am now 42 years old & I've taken nieces, nephews, lots of friends over the years & now my husband & I take our son there; he is 6 years old & we are going to start this year taking our nieces & nephews there. Be sure to see it all, the part at the beginning of the road & then the post at the end of the road. My dad worked construction & lived in the area for many many years & would donate artifacts as he found them in the area. Great place to go spend some time & have a picnic. They have a video at the visitors center at the post, only takes a few minutes. I personally like the original one from when I was younger & it was replaced probably 17 + years ago, this one is good too but I personally like the one I grew up on ha ha, nostalgia. Go~Enjoy~Have Fun~Learn~ Experience~Arkansas' first capital!

Typical of most NPS sites, Arkansas Post is well managed ,very interesting, and is staffed by a knowledgeable and helpful ranger staff. I visited primarily to learn more about the Civil War battle, but did not realize that a British raiding party attacked a Spanish garrison in one of last battles of the American Revolution. I walked much of the excellent trail system, did not see any gators but the staff told me there are some giants.

This place is extremely important to the history of Arkansas and the opening of the Louisiana Territory after the Louisiana Purchase. The early remnants of the village is interesting. The story if the battle fought there during the Revolution and the battle during the War Between The States are little known, but have a very fascinating perspective. I also found the Spanish style fortification to be a srartling contrast to the English style. Well worth the visit.

There was a partial reenactment. But the event could've had more advertising and things to do. Like fort massac in Illinois. Bring attractions food, crafts etc. Nice ppl tho

Really neat place with a ton of history! The visitor's center closes at 5, but the grounds stay open until dark. Make sure you get there in time to see the twenty minute video; it will give you a great overview of the place. The old town section is interesting - still a foundation or two remaining. Lots of birds all over the park. Saw some armadillos on the nature trail. The bayou trail was scenic; be careful of alligators (didn't see any) and mosquitos! I also heard there are ticks. So, probably double up on the bug spray. The rangers are very nice and were available for all kinds of questions!
