REVIEWS OF Navajo National Monument IN Arizona

Jim Bougie

A short walk, on paved path, to see ruins. Gorgeous area. Even a free telescope to better see the ruins. Well worth the few miles off the main road.

Belem Morales

Must see! If your are interested in outdoors, Archeology or ancient history. Recommend you take the tour with Dineh Bekeyah Tours. Our tour guide was excellent and what more than a Navajo guide to give you a tour of their land and history.

Nikki Kindinger

Free camping! Clean bathrooms, beautiful sunset. I wish we could have stayed longer to explore the monument more. Hiked the short loop just to see the ruins from above. Will definitely come again when driving through the area.

Karen Fleck

Cliff dwellers ruins. See model in visitor center then take short hike to view ruins from distance.

Troy Wayne Davis

Fantastic views with nice campsites that were well appointed and roomy. Each site had a tent spot, table, and grill.

Ildiko Scott

Real nice free campground. With awesome hikes.

Gene Salt

Tsegii is a genuine in it state. Navajo Nation recognized the canyon it's park. Navajo National Monument is in preserving part of Tsegii pursuant to ancient cliff ruins. Visit Navajo National Monument when your seeing Navajo Nation.

Jennifer Vanalstine

Campground is free. Very nice monument. Great movies in visitor center

Caroline Nez

Nrw trails. Easy to hike

Andrew Terlizzi

Small park located between monument valley and Page, Az. When I visited I was basically alone and enjoyed the quiet walk to the overlook. I wish i had planned my visit to take one of the guided tours down to the ruins themselves. Make sure to check the website and plan your visit accordingly if you want to get up close to the ruins otherwise the view from the overlook is lovely as well.

Tina Henshaw

Great little side trip! Incredible views! You can even walk these beautifully PAVED trails WITH A CANE!!!

Great customer service, always polite, and very clean place.

Great Visitor Center but ruins cannot be easily accessed, only by considerable hiking over rough terrain.

Scott Brady

Amazing!

Lisa Confetti

Only paved 9 miles from the main road, this place is amazing.

Charlie Guile

five stars for their free and well maintained campgrounds!

Kyle Goss

Great spot, decent price. Found this place randomly and couldn't have been happier!

Judie Pokakaa

Great National park! I just happened to see a sign for it. The half a mile walk down the trail in to the canyon was worth it. Coming back up was a bit hard. However if I can make it, you can too.

paula mcmahon

Everyone should see this place its wonderful

Michael Bennett

Definitely a hidden gem. Our guide, Bill Little was amazing, funny and super informative. We could sit and listen to him talk for hours.

Randall Woods

I liked it.

Curtis Tasker

Worth the time to see this.

Greg Hinze

Amazing place

Charlie Myles

The visitor center was closed when we visited the park. There are hiking trails radiating from the center, and we hiked the Sandal Trail to the Betatakin Cliff Dwelling viewpoint. Great trail and amazing view of the ruins across the valley as well as down the valley. There were several interpretive signs along the trail identifying local plants, and panels at the viewpoint providing information on the cliff dwelling site.

Darren Galindo

Wow. Super interesting and amazing. We got here just before sunset and had to rush to the lookout point to view the ancient settlement. But even at that it was still super cool. The area is actually quite beautiful also. Even after the office closes, they leave the restrooms open for a bit which was very nice. This could be a 3 hour to half day trip easily. I wished we arrived earlier to fully take advantage.

Vanessa Glady

I came late in the day on a Saturday (3:15pm). I found no one working in the visitors center. I walked the mile trail down to the viewing point for Betatakin and again saw no one working for the park to get answers for my questions. I got back to the visitors center at 4:07 and the door was locked and the closed sign was up. Even though this National Park is located in Arizona, they go by day-light savings time. My advice is to make sure you get to the park early in the day if you want to see the exhibit inside the visitors center. The restroom are on the outside of the building and were still open after they closed the visitors center. The trails are not open year round, they open on April 15th. Make sure you have the information as to which trails you need to have a guide. This is an amazing park and to see where they built their pueblos and learn about their beliefs is a must for anyone who loves the Southwest. The paved path to the observation area has some inclines so I would have to say that if there were additional people to help someone in a wheelchair, the path would be user friendly.

Angelina Latkovic

Beautiful park! We camped over night in a tent. I'd probably visit but wouldnt camp again because i had a really freaky nightmare that still haunts me.

Dwight Makinson

Great place for an adventure

Jerry Carpenter

Wonderful walk to Observation Point ( 2 miles round-trip on sidewalk)

Laurie Errington

Don't miss this stop on your way to Moab. Off the road a ways..maybe 15 miles, but well worth it!

Sameer

This place is stunningly beautiful. Individual campsites suited for very large rigs to Van camping. Restrooms, potable water, and other amenities. Free camping for 7 days.

John Krop

We only spent the night camping but this was a beautiful place to visit if you are in the area.

Kathy Leifeste

Beautiful view of the cliff dwellings. If you have access to a sporting scope it is the best way to view them, but I got a great picture with my cell phone on higher magnification

sabino 80

Awesome and lonely place

William Sowle

Free camping in the Sunset View or Canyon View campgrounds, not crowded and great road to get there. Night sky was amazing, no light pollution from any nearby cities. Beautiful walkway through unusual topography to a viewing platform to see the ruins... up-close tours are available.

miguel placencia

It was a cool experience especially driving up the sand roads where we almost got stuck like 3 times. No roads? Mean super fun

Rachael Scace

Gorgeous, amazing experience. There are three trails. I had only enough time for two. The Canyon View trail is exactly that and leaves you with a lasting impression. The Sandal Trail leads to an overlook of the monument across an easy 1 mile paved path. The visitor center has plenty to read and learn.

Sofy Norton

Beautiful

Lee Kirkum

Kind of sketchy get around the campground with my 29' fifth wheel but doable. Free!!! Great views and a few pull through sites. I pulled straight in one site and just backed out when I left. No wood fires but each site has a BBQ grill and picnic table. Valt toilets and garbage cans.

Terry Teller

This is always an amazing place to visit!

Irene Salt

Fantastic place to go toand look around... very nice with snow.

Derek Garcia

Such a beautiful place to visit. I've been at Arizona native my whole life and seeing this wild life was truly amazing.

Valerie Gray

Beautiful sites, well worth the drive to camp and see the park.

Isabelle VANSTON

Place worth to see with nice explanations along the path and nice people at the center

Howard Snell

Great campgrounds, locally guided hike to ruins, interesting Visitor Center, knowledgeable and friendly staff. We pulled in just to sleep & move on, but spent an extra day.

Gene Lung

If you have the opportunity I would recommend that you stop and visit this site. I was impressed with what I saw. We were there too early to book a hiking tour of the ruins.

Ken Black

Very interesting, tucked away NPS unit. A great stop in between Monument Valley and Grand Canyon

Michael Shaw

So peaceful. Worth the drive and the walk down to it.

S R

You haven't been to the States, if you haven't visited the place. Majestic nature in the middle of nowhere.

Dr. Wonnagyst

Can't beat this place. "First come, first serve", but the only price is what you can donate! Great view of the sunset from the "sunset view" campground. The walking trails were good and allowed good views of the Canyon for picture taking. Running water is a plus, and I don't know about the rv parking, but tent sites are normally good for 2-4 man tents, but you can find bigger sites if you look. No campfires, strictly charcoal.

A Brown

Nice but you only could see the ruins from afar. Unless you take a special ranger trip.

Michael Diaz

Very nice, well maintained campsites. 22 foot rv is maximum size. There are bathrooms in the welcome center and even campsite trash cans with garbage service.

Inn Bron

Historical. Visit a place long before colonization. A simpler time perhaps.

Herbert Klein

Very impressive location to see cliff dwellings in good conditions. After a short walk on a well prepared trail you will have an amazing view over the canyon to the cliff dwellings on the other side. I recommend to bring your own binoculars to the view point. On longer hikes you can reach the cliff dwellings. It might be very hot there. Take enough water with you on your trails.

Joseph Paquette

This is an exceptional National Monument and worthy of a visit. The road is paved entirely to the Visitors Center and an easy 9 mile drive. There are great walking trails, many paved for easy elderly access. The views are breathtaking and there are many cave dwellings. The history here is of the ancient ancestors of the Hopi. Highly recommend a visit.

Gregory Feltz

Wonderful parts! Make sure you take the sandal trail to see the ruins

Conway James

This place is sort of hidden from the main road but it's worth the detour for 6 miles off the main road. When you arrive at the visitor center it may look small, but a small entry to a big amazing place. Lots of nice views and a nice little walk to a scenic lookout or if your an adventurer take the 3 mile or 5 mile hike. They do have parking for RV and buses also they have a picnic area with tables. The road to the national monument is a little narrow but gets better when you get near the park. Nice quiet place with lots of history, oh yeah they do have overnight camping grounds too.

Sue Belair

Cool history

Mara Pountain

Beautiful, quiet and chill.

N Bert

This place is great, if you've gone to Canyon de Chelly, you're not too far.

Jeanne Wells

I love the campgrounds especially canyon view and the cliff dwellings are so fascinating the people at the visitor center are so nice

Chris Brussow

Great visitors center, free entry, incredible opportunity to see Pueblo ruins up close, if you want to hike. Well preserved, clean and informative. Nice gift shop too. All native run, support local!

Patricia P

Love the ride through native ameri ican lands to get to this national mark. Scenic hikes, cave drawings - dont miss it

Cheri Stinnett

A short 9mile drive off 160 to this beautiful site. It's trails are awesome, well maintained and of all difficulty levels. A sidewalk type trail takes you to view across at Betatakin cliff dwellings. My spouse loved his Guided 5hr hike down to the ruins, the only way to access them. The visitor center has very educational films and a good display of the Navajo and Hopi findings here. We camped 2 nights as it has been the nicest campground (dry camping) and 1st come 1st serve, with NO FEES, on our whole SW trip. It's so peaceful here. No rigs over 24 ft allowed as the sites can't accommodate them. Pinion and juniper forested. No showers. Flush toilets at Sunrise campground. The upper one has pit toilets and is on an unpaved road. Come enjoy this beautiful park.

Bala Nagarajan

Want to visit again. Trek on a hillside mountain on a spring weather is nice. I assume Summer on top must be brutal for novice visitors. Take cap and water handy.

Stacy Statham

Nice out of the way National Monument with free camping and RV Site. No hook ups, no dump, but flush toilets and water. Very scenic and historic

Kim Mehring

If you have not been I highly recommend going. This is a great national monument. We recently visited this on our way back from Wyoming to Cave Creek. There is a great exhibit inside that show cliff dwellings, artifacts, and many other things. I didn't make it to the campground, but there is one so if that is of interest there is one of those. It is off the beaten path like most national monuments, but worth the trip.

Maria Ruescas

Keep Seel is life time experience yet not for everyone. Beware of the challenges before. Crying will not get you anywhere. Go only with people that are strong and I would say avid traveler/hikers only. There is no Time for a breakdown.

Steven Plotner

Keet Seel is so worth the hike to it. Be careful of the quicksand.

Richard Rohrer

Stopped on our way to Durango. Nice views and interesting area. Visitor center was nice. Had a picnic lunch while there. A little out of the way, but we thought it was worth the visit.

Conrad Dean

Loved this national monument, the staff and tours were excellent(and free). The views were some of thee best i've seen in the entire southwest. Campsites were well kept and everyone we meet there was friendly.

Tina Rawson

Very educational

Gregory Afif

amazing place of tremendous historical significance.

Robert Dayzie

There's a day hike.

Jessie Wood

Wow a hidden gem. Gorgeous. And free camping!

vijay sahni

A must visit to learn NAVAJO history

Ken Johnson

Loved Monument Valley

Sue S

A must see! It's amazing what the Native Americans did to adapt and live in their environments! Not an easy walk for those who have challenges in walking.

Ed Fischer

Lots of trails and a nice view of an ancient puebloan cliff dwelling. There's not as many dwellings here as Mesa Verde or some others, but they have a wonderful museum and information center. Peak season offers ranger guided tours to the dwellings. A little of the main highway, but you shouldn't drive by.

Stacy Assaf

Wonderful exhibits, well-marked hiking trails, friendly staff, lovely Navajo gift shop. The ancient pueblos are so perfectly preserved. It's amazing to see.

Andrew Hodgson

We got there at closing time. The visitor centre was closed but the trail to the monument stays open. Following it we were rewarded with splendid views in almost perfect silence, a memorable visit.

Alex Drena

Stumbled upon this place by accident just trying to find a free campsite, ended up taking the free tours as well to see the Betatakin Cliff Dwellings. You can't get as close to the dwellings as say Mesa Verde, but a worth it stop nonetheless.

Robert

Small visitor center, water and restrooms and three self-guided hiking trails. Beautiful area to explore. Sunset View Campground is a very nice free campground that would typically cost at least $20 per day. Although most site pads are fairly short, I was able to fit my 35' overall rig in sites 2 and 16. During my stay, 90 percent of the campers arrived early evening and departed early morning so the campground was empty each day. I did not have any AT&T data. Note, stay limit is 7 days per year.

Mark Herbes

Great views. The only complaint people have is accessability but given the occasional moron can you fault the need to preserve this wonderful glimpse of history? Anyone with a smartphone can take a picture for better views if needed or pay the fee for a closer tour by jeep. We went in January to avoid the crowds but will go back and take the tour in the summer. If you come to visit Northern AZ, it should be, at worst, 3rd on your list next to the Grand Canyon and Monument Valley. An archeologist might put it first.

Chuck Sheppard

Before going about hiking, look at local conditions at the national monument and be informed on local weather conditions. We are experimenting a 2 yr. Drought and little rain. But it looks promising for more spotted rain now.

John Hartman

Quiet gem! Spectacular views.

Eddie Roman

This place is very beautiful. There are two campgrounds one is more rustic with an awesome view, while the other have more amenities such as flushing toilets. Best of all it's free. Very tranquil and a great place to learn about Navajo culture. Great place to watch sunsets.

Dan Yeckley

Love to hike these trails. Well layed out and beautiful to see.

Deloris HILL

Not easy to get to. Long walk. Down hill. Good luck coming back. Wear good walking shoes.

Nicklas Sloan

The place had a lot of information and it is a beautiful park!

Metalhead 76

Great place, a must even if you only pass through.

Florian

Wonderful small National Park, definitely worth the visit.

Linda Evans

Don't miss this. We had a fantastic vacation driving around the Navajo Nation.

Matt Haberkorn

A great national monument for a short visit. Several short trails that are pretty easy. An amazing landscape and Native American ruins.

Cindy Pflieger

This place has an excellent view. There was also a small gift shop. They showed videos about the natives around the area. They had a hike. I really enjoyed my visit there. I would go again!

Aaron Hill

This was a really cool place to visit! I recommend taking 564 to access over the western entrance. While not a bad drive on the west side, it was slow going and very washboarded out.

Richard Ortega

A beautiful and peaceful landscape that only can be appreciated by those who take the time to stop and listen to nothing but tranquility.

Bruce Geffen

I can't say enough how breathtaking it is here! What a place to visit and experience everything the area has to offer that is nature's way.

Linda Slama

Wonderful

randall norcross

Wow. Free camping and hiking. The Anasazi ruins overlook is breathtaking. There's a morning hiking ranger tours that takes you to the ruins.

Thomas Johnson

Stunning place, awe invoking and just makes you really think of the history in this place. Will stay with me forever.

Orson Doctor

I like your maps

Capt. Norm

Great little park vith few visitors. Well worth a stop.

Monika Miller

Great ranger-lead tour of cliff dwellings and dense forest on the canyon floor. The park has beautiful hiking trails and a charming campground.

Garrett Mondini

Wonderful experience. Incredibly peaceful and awe-inspiring. There are picnic tables and a small museum of artifacts. The staff were friendly and knowledgeable. I wish we had more time to keep exploring!

Fred Scholtz

I believe that most Native American sites are underappreciated enter also under travel I believe that National Park Service Bureau of Land Management Department of the interior add any Native American organization or federal agency that represents Native America should come together and a cyst in the cost of upkeep of Native American sites why doing advertisement on TV and radio I am 53 years old and I have lived in in the Denver metro area since 1987 and I have never I repeat never seen an ad for any Native American Site it is bad enough that we stole their land and tried to rid our country of their culture Society and Native beliefs and now we don't even want to help advertise their culture and Society let's have the genocide stop

Thom Buras

20180925- This is an amazing site to see. The ancients had build a real home for themselves, despite the harsh environment. Still, when conditions grew worse, they knew when it was time to abandon there home in search of a better one.

Jerett Wingrove

My pictures are better.

Justin Sytsma

Stunning. Sandal trail behind the visitor center is an easy, paved walk leading to an overlook of the betatakin cliff dwelling. About 1 mile. Beautiful views, amazing history. Watch for the dinosaur footprint near the start of the trail.

Elisabeth Ewing

Breathtaking, took pictures at sunset and dawn, campground was affordable, cool shower but we got clean, WiFi at office. Take a horse ride that gets up up and personal with Monument Valley.

Laszlo Lieszkovszky

We went in December but were very glad that the visitor center was open (unlike, for example, the Grand Canyon North Rim, which closes for Winter). The ranger was very friendly and informative and staying until dusk was a magical experience. There is an easy hike with a view of the ruins far-below. Definitely worth a visit if you're in the area. It's about an hour and a half away from Page. Make sure to double-check your route because our GPS first tried to take us on some impassable dirt roads. There is a paved road all the way.

Maury C

Great view of the old ruins. Wish you could get a closer look at the building.

Dale Eagar

A beautiful off the beaten path National Monument. I highly recommend a visit if you plan to be near the area. There are a number of interesting sites to visit in the Four Corners region. From ancient native american and historic settler sites to natural wonders, come check them out! You'll be glad you did.

Shannon Sombrero

It's my backyard!!

Vanessa Brockman

The park was largely closed due to the time of year and the snow, but the visitor center was open and the path to the overlook is cleared daily. The view was beautiful! Can’t wait to go back and hike in to the ruins!

Rob McDaniel

I enjoyed this monument over all, and it's very educational but I wish you could get a little closer to the actual site. I understand intellectually that the area must be protected, but the only way to see anything is to take an easy walk down to the edge of the cliff and look at it through a couple of telescopes. So, yeah, it was so so. It would be so much better if they would extend the hike down into the canyon so you can get a better view. These photos are taken from the vista on the edge of the canyon about a half a mile from the site. That's as close as they let you get.

Ken and Alicia Lund

I have a lot left to explore of this remarkable monument, but from the basic overlooks, the views are stunning and the ruins substantial. Well worth a visit off the main highway. Lots of helpful interpretive signs.

Kiana Geary

Free camping! Gorgeous gorgeous and we'll maintained. No showers though

Donald Nielsen

The drive to it from the highway seems longer then it really is, but it is really nice since you have forests on both sides of you. The trail down to see the ruins is really nice and has some great photo opportunities. The ruins themselves are spectacular. They even have one of those binocular platforms so you can get a closer look (important to see the cliff drawings).

R Cornelissen

Great stop on the route to monument valley from Flagstaff or Page! It was great to see the historic cliff dwellings and the short walk to it is paved and very quiet.

lillian begay

Beautiful...

Becky Coulter

Very cool, a mini Mesa Verde, no crowds, free camping!

Anthony M

Camped here August of 2015 on way to CO on my HD. Great place! Had the place to myself. Ride all day, set up camp, have some dinner, watch the sun set, little rain and lighting storm --- can`t get any more like the cowboys of the past. Bring water, and no fires allowed. Plan ahead and this will not be a problem.

Terrie Williams

Great place to explore!

Mike wells

Beautiful. Not to bad hike

schmelonball

What a beautiful place with lots to do. Our National Monuments are true treasures.

Ms Travel

It's a bit of a walk to see the monument. It is paved, but the view is very far away. It's best to watch the movie first.

Alice Vonn

Beautiful and informative be sure to see the movie

Gus Altobello

I didn't get to hike but the view was beautiful from the trailhead and it seemed awesome to explore here in the future.

Mahnchee Pahmkeen

Great place to take a quick home and see some gorgeous scenery.

Michelle Draper

Maintenance is the best here!

K Pape

It's a mind expanding view into the environment and life of those who lived in this extremely scenic place long before the Spanish oppressors arrived.

erica doemland

Seriously a very well kept secret! Free camp ground and tours to the ruins....

Chris Cooper

Unbelievable views from the campsites, little windy but otherwise awesome weather.

Tina Ritt

Off the beaten path and great trails to great views. No cellular service here

Adam Beattie

Quiet camping with clean restrooms

Ryan Kennedy

Great park! Free to the public. A must see.

Craig Wallace

Interesting Native American history

Ed

I happened to be driving by and decided to stop. I'm glad I did. Nice hike into the canyon to view ancient ruins.

Bonnie Becker

I love this National Monument! The camping is free (donations are appreciated) and the facilities are well kept. The views are spectacular! There is a 5 hr. hike down to Betatakin that is ranger led. We haven't done it yet, but it is on our list of things to do when we visit again. And we will visit again!!

Devon

Another beautiful canyon. Only takes you to an overhang to see the ruins, but still very pretty and interesting.

Volpe Miele

The site is wonderful but the campground has some problems. No panels excluding the first and only on the main road. Free and beautiful view but no showers and A LOT of insects, everywhere, toilet included. Ants in every spot. Even Scorpions. We arrived by bicycle with the dark and It was not such a good experience. Btw, if you don't follow the main road, and you're by bike, you have to walk in the sand 14km.

Pamela Tsinnijinnie

Nice, beautiful place
