Kluane National Park and Reserve are two units of Canada's national park system in the southwest corner of the territory of Yukon. It is near the Alaskanborder. Kluane National Park Reserve was established in 1972, covering 22,013 square kilometres (8,499 square miles). The Reserve includes the highest mountain in Canada, Mount Logan (5,959 metres or 19,551 feet) of the Saint Elias Mountains. Mountains and glaciers dominate the park's landscape, covering 83% of its area. The rest of the land in the park is forest and tundra—east of the largest mountains and glaciers—where the climate is colder and drier than in the western and southern parts of the park. Trees grow only at the park's lowest elevations. The primary tree species are white spruce, balsam poplar and trembling aspen. A day-use area with boat launch, picnic facilities and campground is located at Kathleen Lake, and is operated from mid-May to mid-September. Hiking is a popular activity on trails such as St. Elias Lake, Mush Lake Road, Shorty Creek, Cottonwood, Rock Glacier, King's Throne, Kokanee, Auriol, Dezadeash River Trail, Alsek Trail, Sheep Creek Trail, Bullion Plateau Trail, Slims West or Soldiers Summit. Rafting on the Alsek River(a Canadian Heritage river), mountain bikingon old mining roads, horseback riding through the Alsek Pass, boating on Kathleen Lake and Mush Lake as well as fishing for lake trout, Arctic grayling, rainbow trout, northern pikeand sockeye salmon are also among activities available in the park.

A beautiful spring drive to Haines from Fairbanks. We saw lots of wildlife, even a porcupine walking south using the correct side of the road! He didn’t seem to mind being passed by a truck pulling a trailer loaded with dog boxes and 21 dogs.

Beautiful park. Very remote. Make sure you fill up at every gas station or carry spare gas cans as I did cause I went about 250 miles without seeing a gas station. And some that I saw were completely closed for the winter.

What a sight! The largest lake we've seen on our drive to Haines, Alaska. Some parts of the lake were still iced over, a break in the ice to water, Whitecaps and around the corner, smooth as glass. Beautiful lake.

Great park with. Only had time time to hike King's Throne and only to the saddle. Round trip took around 3hrs return carrying a 9 month old. Great hike, fairly technical ascent.

Rose Huebschwerlen

Manon Fontaine

Incredible park, lots of activities, for all type of people and if you want you can be days without seeing someone else...only wildlife

Joe Traveler

Beautiful park, crystal clear lakes and rivers. Lush forrest. Much more wild than US parks the Canadians know how to do National parks. Lookout for wildlife this is bear country. Plenty of rarely used trails. No hand guns or bear spray in Canada so make noise as you hike to avoid.

Desmond Hedderson

If you're planning a trip in northern Canada this place is probably the greatest stop that you can make. Kluane park is beautiful, and easy to getting from Whitehorse if you're looking for a place to fly into. The hiking here is top notch, the nearby town of Haines junction is absolutely beautiful and has all the services that you'll need.

Nathan Adams

Magical. Part of the world's largest protected track of land, a UN designated world heritage site, and as far as I'm concerned, the North Eastern part of the center of the universe.

Carol Ouellet

Just such an amazing looking place. Great camping spots with tones of hiking worth doing no matter which.

Michael Young

Wow, hike straight up for 4900 feet, worth the agony!

Karolina Jaworska

Amazing place ! I really recommend to take a trip by small plane above the mountain. The views are breathtaking. And the price it very worth that time . I was before high season - middle of May and there was no problemem with places in the plane. The most imporstat for that is weather - not so many clouds- then it is possilbe to sea all of peaks ;)

Joel Schneider

Five stars and it deserves it, there was a camping space and trail reserved for Germans , never seen such good German service.

So beautiful

Nik Crawford

We hiked parts of the Auriol range (backcountry) and Slim's River West (daytrip) in 2017. As far as mountains go, this park has great examples thereof. Beware of area closures for bear activity when planning you trip. We planned to backpack the Slim's River West route, but grizzly activity closed it beyond the Sheep Mtn Trail. So we backpacked into the Auriols closer to Haines Junction, set base camp on the grassy moraine, and made excursions into the range from there. The park is well organized, the visitor centre is impressive and educational, and the park staff are incredibly knowledgeable. They provided great insight when we were deciding on a new backpacking route and their reference maps helped greatly. If you ever find yourself in Whitehorse, I highly suggest making the trip over to Kluane.

Rita Vigil

Great place

Lorraine Holder

If anyone ever gets to Whitehorse you have to travel the road to Haines Junction..the mountain views are termendous

I had a great time camping and seeing the Kluane National Park. My dog also was invited to attend the nature talk. Staff were very friendly and many of the locals came to the visitor center talk. Great views, and clean camp sites.

Always beautiful! Highway is bare and dry. Frostys is open!

Though access isn't easy, the park is absolutely superb. Many hiking trails accessed from both the Alaska Highway and Haines Highway, and flightseeeing from either Burwash Landing or Silver City is beyond-words incredible.
