REVIEWS OF Denali National Park and Preserve IN Alaska

Luke Harris

Not only is this place absolutely amazing to see, but the staff are wonderful too. The bus drivers were very friendly and my son had a great experience with the junior ranger program. He lost his badge back home and they were very caring by sending us a new one to replace it. They made his day and it showed they really have a passion for the park and the people that visit.

Alexia Kligopoulos

LOVE this place! So breathtakingly beautiful and massive. You can drive about 15 miles or so into the park and park on the side of the road to hike around or take pictures. After that you have to pay to take a bus where they will drive you the rest of the way. Denali has several camp grounds that are in the park and also one or two accessible by car. I absolutely love it here and come as often as I can.

Mikki Hess

Enjoyed all the wildlife n our tour guide stopped when an animal was spotted n got to take lots of pictures.. The staff was very friendly and very helpful.

David Turnbull

One of the most incredible and wild places on Earth. I've been to a lot of National Parks and this one is special. It's weird even writing a "review" since Denali is so incredible that it necessitates a 5 star review, but a review can't do the place justice. It has to be seen and experienced in person.

Sande Sivani

Denali National Park is one of the most pristine and beautiful places left in the U.S. We saw Dall Sheep, hundreds of Caribou, a mother Bear and her 2 cubs and 7 or 8 Moose on our bus ride to the ranger station at mile 54 of the 90 or so miles of roads in the park. We were also fortunate enough to see a number of Magpies and eagles on our trip.

Charlie Brundage

Took the alaska railway north to Denali. Debbie and I road the long bus and saw moose, bears, rodents, birds, and Denali. What a wonderful experience! No disappointments.

Abhijit Naik

This is park is awesome...buses go into the park. You cant drive your own vehicle beyond a certain point...amazing views.

Stan Hutchison

We saw moose & carabu. Pretty scenery and Yogi was an excellent tour guide and driver. Her close encounter with a bear and wolf picture was awesome and very thrilling.

Sheri Schoenberg

Mama moose and twins hang out in campgrounds to keep safe from predators. Be smart and do not approach. Denali is fun. Take advantage of park ranger walking tours, free shuttles and spend time in the visitor centers. Winter or summer check it out.

Dawn Lusk

Great, informative welcome center. Loved seeing the sled dogs!!

Jesus-Saved-Me

Absoultely Incredible! Breath taking photos. God is amazing! Shout out to Conor my guy. Love you bro!

Skylar Hoffert

Absolutely incredible. Even if you don't get to see Denali Mountain, still an amazing place to visit.

Greg Miller

What can I say, it's freaking gorgeous. We were lucky enough to have awesome weather and pretty much a clear view of THE mountain. All of the staff that we talked with were really helpful and friendly. We did the Wonder Lake bus tour and really enjoyed the experience. The driver narrative was good and we had a reasonable amount of sight seeing opportunities for scenery and wildlife spotting. Make sure to bring ample supplies for your stay because the Riley Mercantile selection is quite limited and the prices are generally outrageous. Likewise, grocery stores are pretty few and far between. We stayed at the Savage Camp Grounds and it was pretty much exactly what is advertised. Our only real complaint is that the fire ring design is so completely stupid that it's almost u useable. The grate sits way too high to be able to cook over coals and it won't flip over and out of the way so that you can put a Dutch oven or anything down into the coals. All-in-all, it's a must see.

Charles Porzelt

Simply majestic. Due to extreme ly warm weather Denali was closed for the season to climbers because of the avalanche danger but the mountain and the park are something worth seeing. The types and amount of wildlife in the park . A once in a lifetime experience.

Johnnie Miller

Nature no one around kinda feel when its closed but a edge of the world vibe when full in season

shahab aria

Spectacular park with most veautiful scenery you ever seen. It is licated halfway between Fairbanks and Anchorage. You can go there by car but I suggest you to use bus from the bus stop in the Denali to visit the Denali park. If you will be lucky you can see some beautiful wild creature such as moose and fox.

Brent Sweitzer

Must see to appreciate the full beauty! Our tour guide was amazing.

vignan sagar

The view from the seaplane is simply breathtaking. You will definitely enjoy each and every part of it. The views are so good that you cannot forget them. If you are running out of time, then air tour is the best thing you can do and usally takes 2-3 hours for the entire round trip. Few air tours have a glacier landing which is worth taking them.

Linda Maxwell

One of the most beautiful place ever been, the fall colors we're awesome

Kara Feeley

Amazing park - saw Grizzly Bears, Moose, Caribou, Dall Sheep, and Lynx! We went 2 separate days, hiked a bit, rode the bus, and went all the way to the end of the rode in Kantishna! Jeremy and Thomas were the best guides on our bus tours. Kimberly in the welcome center / bus depot was also amazing!

Diamond Fernandez

Denali National Park is my favorite National Park of all Alaska. Although all of the National parks are amazing, Denali takes the lead. Plently of areas to camp, hike, and eat. There are tons of restaurants and shops to stop at as well. Beautiful park, definitely recommend and definitely will be coming back.

Raymond Chesley

What a trip. Great diver Mike was very informative. 7 hour ride. Saw Wildlife.

Leah Jean

How could you rate a national park less than a five? They're all amazing, Denali included. It's a huge park with some very well maintained trails near the visitor center. Check out the sled dog kennels and the book store for some extra stuff to do after your hike. And don't forget to stamp your national park passport book! There are variations on the Denali stamp depending on where you get it, so look for them all!

Randy Weaver

We won the lottery and got to drive through the park. Such an awesome experience. Si nice to have the gem of a place in national parks.

Meagan Bechel

National parks are always amazing and this one is no exception. You pay a basic entry fee and then more depending on how far you want to go into the park. It's a little confusing how you're supposed to get around the park with their bus system, but we got the hang of it after a few days. Much more fitted for backcountry hiking than groomed trails, but that's the nature of a remote park and the trails they did have were good. The sled dog demonstration is cute and fun.

Tim Luther

Most wonderful ❤️ train ride in my life! Absolutely great explorer train ride.. clear dome ride cars! Wonderful staff make sure you buy the coffee cup and drink mug free refills all day great bargain then you can use the drink mug the following day for the tour through Denali Park heads up on that one! Tim

Dmitry Berezhnoy

It's truly amazing. I cannot say that it was better than everything I've seen before but it was definitely worth my time and effort. Now I want to come back and explore more of it.

Dawn Kersula

Even on a rainy day -- didn't see The Mountain but saw two grizzlies, ten caribou, a ew moose...don't be afraid to take the (less expensive ) shuttles. The drivers are fabulous! Ranger led hikes are great too.

Farhana Bandukwala

Amazing vistas and a large variety of hikes. We did a long an interesting Alpine hike that had incredible views. We also rode the bus and saw a lot of bears, caribou and a moose.

Ivan Mast

7 Grizzlies, a bull moose, one Dall sheep, lots of caribou, and two foxes make an interesting day. The scenery is also stunning, even though the mountain never came out. God's creation is quite awesome!

Charles Campbell

Such an amazing place. We loved every minute of it. We were there for two nights in September, which was a perfect amount of time.

Joseph C Deiter

Great scenery. A must see if you are in the area. Plan on at least 4 hours.

Lesleigh Pendery

Do the bus tour at least once! The trip is long, about 14 hours, but well worth it. There's 2 options, a narrated one with lunch provided, and a cheaper option where you can bring your own lunch, and the bus driver isn't telling the narrative. You can drive by car 12 miles in to the park, and if you camp at Teklanika, you can drive the 29 miles in.

Triya Bhattacharya

We started our Alaska visit with Denali National park and camped at Wonderlake. Every place we visited was absolutely gorgeous. We saw so many bears, moose, caribous that we lost count. Our driver for the camper bus, Tom was wonderfully knowledgeable and knew exactly where to spot wildlife. While staying at Wonderlake we also attended a talk by Park Ranger, Frank John, who told us about the eating habits of grizzly bears, which was very entertaining and he put a lot of effort into it which we really appreciated, even though we had no kids in our group. Services at the campgrounds exceeded our expectations with running water.

Aditi Partani

This place is amazingly beautiful and massive. and the way this park and people have preserved the wilderness is incredible. The Alaskan husky dog sleds is an amazing way of transportation. These huskies go 85 mile to transport the stuff inside the park during winters. The air is sooo fresh there that you won’t feel tired at all. Most importantly you will encounter a lot of wildlife in the park. Caribous, Moose, grizzlies,Dall sheep, awww i can’t stop praising this place. This is a must visit national park. So many small hikes easy to do with kids. There are few different kind of bus tours available to see the park and Denali mountain it self. I highly recommend doing no less than tundra wilderness bus tour. It is about 8-9 hours tour.. must must visit.

William Boland

It'd be easy to just rate this a 5 star cuz... It's Denali. But the rating reflects the fact that I researched a ton before I came and one example of a massive shortcoming of this place is the fact that most of it is only accessible by a bus. What they need to understand is that most people are flying in to either Anchorage or Fairbanks and then driving. If you're coming from Anchorage, you have yourself an 8.5 hour round trip drive. So what's your reward for sitting in a car that long? Being forced to sit in a bus to see the park. The buses drive about 11 mph, and they're your only option to get to places like the Eielson Visitor Center. You literally aren't allowed to drive into the park. Is there really that much traffic in Alaska that we can't allow people who took a 7 hour flight followed by a 4 hour drive to just get out and hike without being forced on a bus? Terrible process for exploring the park. Don't take this personally please. Just know that SOME of us don't make the trip to sit on a bus.

Winkler Matt

The park itself is gorgeous. Sweeping vistas as you travel the park road. You can only drive to mile 14 along the park road, after that it is park buses and special permits only. Recommend you take a tour to at least the Eiselon Visitor Center for a better chance to see Wildlife and Denali (Denali is only visible 30% of the time).

Julia Johnson

The most beautiful place on earth! We were blessed to see the peak of Denali twice! Once on our rail trip up to the beautiful Chalet, and again on our tour of this magnificent park. Truly a National Treasure!

Barbara Moore

Beautiful. The Princess tour was very well done. Cannot remember the name of our tour guide but her enthusiasm and knowledge was contagious.

Wolf Thrain

I recently went on a Backpacking trip in Denali and it was the most beautiful place I have ever traveled too. The vast ruggedness of the land gives you a new perspective on how far things really are. If you ever get a chance to visit this beautiful landscape I highly recommend it.

Marie Hazzard

Breathtakingly beautiful. We took the 11 hour Park bus to Wonder lake. Our driver was very informative and we saw lots of wild life. The only thing we would do different is instead of going all the way to Wonder lake we would instead turn around at the Eielison visitor center. The extras hour plus to the lake was not worth it - too many mosquitoes and not much to see.

Matthew Key

Its Alaska, I mean what else needs said. The whole state should be one of the wonders of the world. Here you can see golden and bald eagles. Grizzly or maybe brown bears, and more salmon than you could ever imagine. Especially if you go during the fall run. Grab a license and a rod and don't look back.

Valerie Gerry

This place is spectacular! Beautiful, pristine, and wild! God's art work is amazing! Can only visit this park by bus or lottery. Great way to do it and well worth it! Don't miss it!

Mike

Amazing place. Got to see the mountain too. Only 30% of visitors get to see it due to the weather.

Lily York

Absolutely beautiful place! Very highly recommend. We saw tons of wildlife everywhere and such amazing views.

Savio D

Took toklat transit bus for park tour. Best option for wildlife viewing. Our driver josh did a great job.

Cassandra Jones

This place is really wonderful. Two floors of learning all about Denali and it's animals.

Miranda Olsen

Denali NPS is the most awe inspiring places I've ever been. It is wilderness in it's truest form. There is so much to see. The hiking trails are amazing, both maintained and back country. I highly recommend camping out at wonderlake for at least one night. There are no limits to what you can see or do - if you're on a bus and you see a place you'd like to explore more, just tell the driver and they will let you off anywhere in the park. When you're done exploring, just head back up to the road and wave down the next bus that passes by. The rangers offer many different nightly talks about the history and animals of the part. We enjoyed the bear gastronomy talk the most! You're almost guaranteed animal sightings here. A wonderful park to roam and to get away from it all!

Mark M

The Denali Park Tor we took but beautiful we saw several moose one very close got some great pictures the guide was very knowledgeable told a lot of good stories was better than I thought it was going to be

Jim Christensen

Full Tundra Wilderness Tour -8hrs was amazing. saw the mountain, grizzly and cubs, moose, caribou, eagle, and really enjoyed the tour narration

Catalin Baicu

Very great place to visit. The bus tour is great to do it as you will be able to see significant wildlife.

Greg Burch

This is a great National Park to see wildlife in their natural habitat, undisturbed by people. This National Park is very serious about keeping the 6 million acres of land in pristine condition. Lots of restrictions on what you can and can't do inside the park. The only way to see the entire 90 miles of road through Denali National Park is by purchasing a tour. Private vehicles are only allowed in for the first 10 miles or so. Lots of wildlife to see if you happen to come on a good day. If your lucky, you might even get to see Mount Denali. We arrived on a day when wildfires were happening in the area, so the smoke made it difficult to see anything. Also be prepared to ride school buses throughout the National Park if you purchase a tour. The road is not paved the whole way, so it's gets dusty and rough. Also bring extra water and snacks because nothing is sold once you entered the National Park. There are bathrooms available throughout the park.

Ben Pischke

Amazing visit. Saw tons of wild life and the mountain. Have been twice and highly recommend.

Richard Ferris

If only the state of Alaska operated this park it would be so much better. Which federal Parks has Travelers we can never stay in a park because we can't know where we're going to be far enough ahead of time. Our federal government can never enlarge or provide adequate camping within a national park matter how many years they are given to do it. On a clear day it's a beautiful mountain and it can best be seen by either spending $65 in writing a six-hour bus or heading south of the park along the Parks Highway and doing it from the Alaska state park or the highway. These are both free. In the federal part of the park there's no parking no camping and no doing anything signs everywhere. If you love rules regulations limitations and manipulations you will love our federal parks. It is amazing how regulated The Great Outdoors can be when our federal government is helping us. If you go to the information Center, notice the part of the park that is owned by the state of Alaska. You can do everything in this part of the park hunt fish camp mostly for free. Alaska treats its citizens with respect and provide services. our federal government treats the franchise holders and vendors in the state parks with respects and does a setup that allows them to exploit the public more than serve the public If you're willing to tolerate the federal government's idea of freedom, there are great Trails great views and great hiking opportunities in Denali that are unbeatable. Some of the information in the visitor centers must be taken with a grain of salt as the Environmental extremist write the copy. On a cloudy day or bad weather the mountain is so high you will not be able to see it for me any viewpoints! It is amazing to see a natural resource so methodically exploited by the government and vendors while pretending to be a beacon of Nature and wholesomeness

Josh P

Phenomenal park. Do note, it is definitely a PRESERVE first, and a park second. Do not expect many places for food or drinks. Come prepared. That said, they have a great infrastructure set up for moving people around.

Shannon

What a beautiful National Park. If you get the chance go. We were lucky, we we able to see Denali, which is breath taking. Highly recommend if you get the chance.

Pit Vins

An absolute must! Why else would you come here? I would strongly recommend their longest tour, the "Kantishna Experience", even if that means a VERY early start of the day. But for that you get the experience of your lifetime.

Becky Noyes

While I did not get the chance to explore the park fully as we were riding a tour bus down the Parks Highway from Healy to Anchorage due to problems with the train tracks... I must say that even trapped on a bus with limited ability to stop, driving through the park was one of the most beautiful things I've ever seen! If you're looking for adventure in the mountains, look no further, they've got you covered! I hope that someday we'll ve able to return and really explore the park and all it's beauty!

GRACI FINKLE

We visited the park in late spring, many restrictions and could not drive up to the mountain. We are not interested in riding a tour bus for six hours to see the park in the mountain and so after driving 8000 miles to get here we were very disappointed in the limited part of the park we could use. Weather was still cool and so there were no flowers and only a few animals but we had already seen many animals on our trip across the United States British Columbia Yukon and the rural routes of Alaska. We parked our RV just one night and in the early a.m. conflicted with the facilities cleaning crew who closed the bathrooms for an hour and would not give access. And so because we were leaving we were unable and they would not let us use the facilities.

Elisa Roxas

Great place! Spectacular views of the mountains and the rivers! I saw 2 Caribou that went in front of the tour bus and kept walking on the road for at least 10 minutes. One moose came so close to the tour bus while eating. An illusive lynx stood still looking at us, a chance to take pictures - a very rare opportunity. We spotted 2 mama bears with cubs playing on the hills. After 102 years, the park still provides wonderful experiences to the visitors. It was an amazing visit of Denali!

Betty Bowen

Fabulous time in both Denali National Park and state park. 8 hour Bus ride inside the park was great. Saw Moose, Caribou, and Grizzly plus lots of birds.

Jared McCullough

Incredible. Nothing like it anywhere else in North America. The huge vertical relief of the mountains make you feel small. The constant snow and glacial cover make them feel off-limits. But that's not remotely true. You can get to these mountains by hiring a bush plane or hiking many miles. There's no other option. The real beauty of the park is the mountains. Take a plane ride from Talkeetna to see the best parts. Skip the touristy long bus ride. You won't be able to thank me enough.

Susan Lucas

Millions of acres of majestic wilderness preserved including the highest peak in north America. Ranger-led hikes, wooded campground, bus tours, wildlife sitings. Spectacular scenery.

David Efros

We did the 8-hour bus tour ( 4 hours in and 4 hours out). We got to see some beautiful country including a clear view of Denali for most of the afternoon. We were also able to see multiple bears, caribou, and moose.

Brick Owens

The park is restricted. I would say the back country campers have the best experience of the complete park. Plan ahead to explore past Savage Creek. This is mostly a game preserve. For tourists, it's an occasional encounter with nature. For someone who expects a luxury bus and window view, these are.school buses you experience the park with. Of it's raining just day no to.the ride. However we did see moose and elk from a long way away. Mosquitos no aren't as bad during rain August is not the time to visit. Way to rainy. July might be better. We saw the mountain Denali, on our second day, the south view point was the best and the glaciers were in view. . Day 1,3,4, and 5 we're cloudy. We were one of the 30% that see all of Denali. Roll the dice, stay at least 3 - 5 days to maybe see Denali mountain The locals describe the mountain as a thing........."If Denali comes out". No one has say over a mountain of a 20,320' magnitude. It does what it wants. The clouds were a veil you are unable to lift. The mountain is growing 3/4" per year. "A fingernail in time". Definitely worth the visit.

Garima Mishra

Sept is a perfect time for Denali. Fall colors were outrageous, with red and green grass on the mountains.

Chris Tennant

Awesome country. Say Bears, Caribou, Sheep, and Moose....Too many rules for my liking, but the country is awesome....

Allison Swenson

It’s Denali. What is there to say other than it’s amazing? Take a bus, see some wildlife, take a hike at Eielson Visitor Center, pet some sled dogs, pray it’s clear enough to see the mountain... what more do you want out of life?

Nick Magelee

Did the Kantishna Experience and saw lots of wildlife and learned allot about the park and the animals. Saw over a dozen Grizzly bears, moose (including 2 big bull moose), and Caribou, not to mention other wildlife such as Dall Sheep, Artic Squirrels, Hares and hawks. Don't forget about the mountain! Got to see that amazing creation too! Was awesome for a first time in Denali!

Kimberly Murdough

Beautiful landscape and full of wildlife. Park staff are super friendly

kris piel

Other worldly. A must see for any wildlife or wilderness lover!!

Zachary Griffith

Great park, and if you get lucky you can get some great views of the biggest Mt. in North America.

David Glover

Simply spectacular. In fall/winter you have the place to yourself.

Joe Brooks

Amazing National Park. Able to see caribou, moose, and grizzlies. Beautiful weather, but clouds covered Mt Denali. Otherwise almost perfect day.

Nancy Williams

Our tour guide told us only 30% of the visitors actually get to see Denali itself due to weather. We were very lucky because the drizzle let up...the sun came out and the clouds lifted. Saw 13 grizzly bears 40 yards from the bus...tons of caribou and fall sheep in the distance. Our tour guide Liddy was awesome...and very knowledgeable. She was also good at spotting wild life along with driving on some narrow curving roads.

Nathan Dunford

Denali National Park is amazing. Huge and beautiful. We were able to visit on a clear day and saw Mt. Denali from a great distance. If you can you should go in early in the day and go all the way to Wonder Lake. If you want to hike you can get off anywhere but make sure you have bear spray! On our bus ride we saw 10 moose, 9 bears, 11 caribou, tons of ground squirrels, mountain sheep from a distance, and a porcupine. We wish we had more time to spend there!

Satoko Yuda

Denali National Park and Preserve has so much to offer. We camped at the Wonder Lake campground for two nights. The ride to/from the campground was so enjoyable, including dynamic, breath taking scenery and sightings of wild animals. During our ride, we saw a red fox, a brown bear, a herd of caribou, a golden eagle, and lots of rabbits and ground squirrels. Even though the bus ride is almost 5.5 hours, we never got bored. We were also lucky to see Mt. Denali while we were camping. Two storms pushed away the smoke, and we woke up to a view of the Alaska range, from east to west. There is only one established trail in the Wonder Lake area, McKinley bar trail. It is a relatively flat 4.8 mile round trip trail, and you will walk through the tundra to taiga and reaches the river. There are blue berries along the way, too. Even though we got rained on multiple times, we had a great time. I recommend staying at least 2 nights to explore different areas of the park. Our 3 nights stay was not enough, and we will come back again to explore some more.

Vicki Kuhl

Go! Just go! Don't waste your time thinking if you should or not just do it. You will not be sorry guaranteed. So much to see and so beautiful. If this is not on your bucket list then it needs to be. I spent 3 days in Denali and could go back for a week. I stayed at McKinley resort which was an excellent choice also. There are several resorts in the area. Princess was just a block down the road. They looked comparable but no complaints with McKinley. Did not get to see Denali itself as they say only one third of all people are fortunate enough because of the cloud cover. I would go back again just for that alone, let alone the wildlife and scenery! Don't hesitate. Go!

kristina elshoff

Staff was knowledgeable and helpful in planning our visit based on time and activity. We had no idea you could only take the bus around the park and that it took 12 hrs to get to the end. You can only drive your vehicle the first 15 miles so we hiked from the visitor center to the dog sled kennels, watch a demonstration of the dogs, then can back and ate some food (a bit expensive). Despite the rain we enjoyed looking at the trees and mushrooms. We still had a great time and will revisit.

Deborah Tracy

Such and amazing time. We just drove to the 15 Mile Mark and did the two mile loop around the river. It was beautiful!

native ridge

This is the best national Park in the US hands down! Not going to waste time explaining any highlights because you really need to come here and experience for yourself if you are able.

Anastasia Ho

So much to explore that you'll need a few days! But if you're there for a day or two, definitely hike the "Horseshoe Lake Trail". Amazing views of the lake and awesome vegetation all around. Plus, it's super easy to get to from the visitor center

Fritz Martin

A wonderful place that should be on everyones bucket list.

Denise Barlock

Just a stunning park! The views are amazing and the roads through mile 15 are really good. We also visited the dog kennels which was a lot of fun. This is a must visit!

vrivera1010

This is my second time visiting the park and it never disappoints!

Xiao Feng

It's wild yet people can enjoy it with all kinds of activities ranging from bus tours to backcountry hiking and camping. NPS here is doing a great job balancing preservation and service!

Annie Blue

Beautiful! We took Taiga trail to the Horseshoe loop trail, and we saw a mother and her moose calf by the lake. We also saw two beavers swimming. The green trees, blue lake, and mountains also make for a beautiful backdrop to a lovely hike!

Scott Carpenter

I'm coming back again! Definitely check the weather before going. Weather is completely different than other areas in Alaska.

Chris McBride

Beautiful area, too bad we drove through during the first snow fall of the year. Great sights of an amazing state!

Cam Kay

This is an Awesome park to go to. It was first established in 1917 and was named Mt. McKinley National Park.

Arvel Hall

A stunning wilderness park, Denali is like no other place on Earth.

Fr. Keith Cervine

Can only get so far with your own vehicle, and have to take tour buses out to see Denali... plan your time accordingly. Only 30% of visitors actually see the mountain. Great hiking trails and decent animal viewing, although perhaps less than one would expect.

Sandra G

This was the highlight of our trip. Took the Wilderness Tundra Tour. Awe inspiring. Our bus driver was great and spoke with the reverence this place deserves. Cruises are great, but this was the true Alaska! Photos will never do it justice!

Meeko Depember

Beautiful National Park. We were lucky to have a clear sunny day. Saw a lot of wildlife and the summit is majestic

Anaya Family

We had snacking animal encounters including bull/cow mouse, bears, caribou, variety of birds. Loved Denali

Mark Bancroft

It was awesome even though we had a lot of smoke. Saw lots of wildlife. Just missed a clear view of Denali. Day b4 we got there it was clear. :(

Katherine Lewis

Always an amazing experience! One of the must do items while in Alaska. We live here and still make a point to go. The bus tours are great and we always see tons of wildlife. I recommend the Tundra Wilderness Tour. Not too long, not too short.

Patty Anderson

Can't wait to go back and see more. We had perfect weather. Saw Denali peak two days in a row.

Phil

We took the 30 mile Natural History Tour in the park and had a great tour with our guide who assisted in helping us see the different wildlife in the park. He loaned his binoculars to us so we could see some wildlife far away.

Todd Wingert

Denali is a beautiful place to visit. However during peek season it can be very busy. As well you don't always see wildlife. some of it is due to the frequency of busses and people.

Me

I loved this place, I saw bears and moose and other animals. GO HERE, words will not do it justice!!! So BEAUTIFUL, WOW!!!

Lukáš Več

Very nice nature. Such a shame that we are not allowed to drive in the park like it used to be. Take a bit expensive bus to there. Its worth it. If you stay inside the park in campground you have to use only the buses to move around for only one ticket of your stay.

Kong Siou

Super scenery with its pine trees and the background mountains under the snow

James Ball

Took a tour of park, great place to visit lots of animals to see

Linda Navamuel

One of the most amazing experiences I’ve ever had the pleasure of being apart of. Such an amazing park, took the shortest bus tour, about 6 hours long (can’t recall the name) got to see 2 grizzly bears, caribou, moose, ground squirrels, coyote and the native Alaskan bird. Our bus guy was great, John (I believe) was funny, kind & stern with his rules (I a bit late for one of the tour bus breaks) would love to do that bus tour again, and come back to this park. The doggos houses are so adorable and awesome to learn about worth checking out, limited hours so check before hand. We checked out horse shoe lake & saw beavers getting to work. I was in awe with how wildlife was bustling around.

fount mckinley

So wonderful, took the 11 hr. Bus ride. Saw elk, bears, ground squirrels and goats. Beautiful scenery.

Robbyn Tucker

I loved it. I'd give it 10 stars it's so beautiful. Our guide was very informed and friendly, we made plenty of stops, and got to take plenty of photos. It is the most beautiful place in the world. Wish we had more time there. But thoroughly enjoyed ourselves there.

Joelle Carson

Guide was patient and made as many stops as necessary for the tour to get the pictures needed. Very knowledgeable.

Brian Woebkenberg

Jump off the bus anywhere and hike as long as you like, then jump on another bus. You can go wherever you want. No trails, just go in the direction that calls to you! Amazing!

Rebecca Rodriguez

A must add to your bucket list. Prepare to spend at a minimal of three days at Denali. The distances are too great and there is too much to do. Spend time researching all your options. Alaska is gorgeous. An arctic rainforest.

Bjorn Mathisen

Saw a lot of wild life while out on a bus tour. Mountains were fantastic. Weather is as always a toss up. We managed to see Denali for a few minutes when the clouds cleared. Would definitely recommend you try it. Even on a rainy day.

Josh Phillips

Literally, a National treasure. Breath taking views and amazing scenery. There was still so much more to see but we unfortunately ran out of time. Would love to come back during a different season to see what changed.

Traci Lennox

We were in the area for a couple of days hoping to see the top of Denali itself. The park road was closed the only full day we were in town because of ice (due to the blizzard the night before when we were driving in). We tried again when we were headed back towards Anchorage the next day and it was open! Just as a point, you can only access up to mile 15 via private vehicle. If you want to go further than that, you have to get on the bus. We were there in what was still considered the winter season so there were no buses running. We parked at the lot around mile 15 and hiked up a couple of extra miles up the road to get a better view of Denali. Minimal clouds at the top when we took those pictures. Excellent scenery all around and I can only imagine it gets even better the further in you get. We WILL be planning another vacation during the summer season so we can get to all of it. If you are headed up that way and don't have time to get all the way to the glacier, you can get some excellent views from the south side of the park too (Talkeetna is one spot and then there's a scenic turnout area further north called "Denali View South").

Absolutely great place to be! You would see wildlife, nature and what not! Take Tundra bus tour. It’s the best one.

Suman Pandey

Superb place for hard core hikers, campers, or tourists. There something for everyone. If you live nature then this is your mecca. Lots of wildlife to see. Park still has wild side to it although lot of people visit it every day. We took green bus tour that took 12 hours in total in July. It was tiring but worth it. Pack lots of food as there is nothing inside the park!

Bryce Behunin

I didn't have enough time. So beautiful. Rained most of the day, but the clouds broke and I got to see Denali at the end of the day.

Vickie

The Park itself was beautiful , we took the bus tour and that wasn’t so great !! The bus seats were uncomfortable !! if you happen to get the seat in the middle you can’t see out the windows for all the other people in the way that didn’t seem to care if you were able to see or get a photo , then there’s the bus driver Kim or Mik as she put it we found her to be very annoying , no one !! but her could talk but then she did enough to make up for the rest of us , she drove fast on the rough gravel roads beating us to death then on the pavement she drove so so slow , then on the way back when ask to stop to look at a caribou that was close enough to see for a change she didn’t want to stop , her comment was well how many times have we stopped to look at a Caribou today so we went right on by , and that was only a few of the many things that she did that day , good luck if you get her as a tour bus driver , also a few more stops with time to take some photos would be nice , with her you just barely had time to use the restroom and no time to take photos for fear of her leaving you behind !!

Denali national park is a great place to visit once. We stayed two nights in Talkeetna, and Denali is visible from there (we were fortunate to see her three days in a row and she is breathtaking!). We were in a rental car (from Anchorage) and saw Denali on the drive to and from the park as well. At the park we enjoyed the visitor center, the free sled dog demonstration, and the Savage River Loop Trail hike. The hike was a highlight of the day! Beautiful country, saw three moose coming and going from the park. But the park is huge, so make sure you decide how much you want to try and see, which will determine if you need to stay in the park or can stay outside the park.

Ruth Ferrall

It is beautiful ...we did not see the mountains .The clouds had the mountains under cover! but we did do the drive to the 15 mile marker. We would love to try again!

pete mcconville

The very big outdoors. Need to think about using electric vehicles maybe. And a coal power station within the boundary. Maybe its time to start thinking about the environment and single use plastic.

Laura Gray

This is the most beautiful National Park I have visited. What I like best is their approach to preservation: let nature take its course. The rangers teach you to respect the land in all its glory and wildness.

Brian Mills

If I could give it a no star rating I would. We booked a handicap accessible tour for my Father who is a paralyzed Veteran. We show up an hour before our trip. The bus shows up and is not wheelchair accessible. Which we run into fairly often. They state that the excursion that we booked had no other busses that are handicap accessible and tell us that we can chose a different excursion that runs 3 hours later than the one that we booked. Which would be fine but we got up at 2 am and drove 4 hours to get here. The tour would end at 11 tonight which means we won’t get home for a full 24 hours from the time we woke this morning. The only thing they can say is, “We’re sorry this happened to you.” You messed up. Not us. Fix the problem! Never again will I come back.

It's Denali, so not sure how you couldn't be impressed. I got lucky and had very clear weather, so the mountain was entirely out most of the day, and had a great wildlife day, but even if you aren't that lucky it's hard not to be amazed by the scenery. We only went as far as Eielson, but I've heard great stories about views from Wonder Lake while camping. To get a sense, just head to the Savage River parking area and wander the loop trail there. Make sure to visit the sled dog kennel on the way back, some beautiful and friendly pups there. The limitation on access due to buses only on the single road helps keep crowds in check, and with no trails, you just need to pick a point and start hiking. An outdoor wanderer's paradise you could easily spend weeks exploring.

Andrew Schwartz

Went here for some wilderness backpacking. Overall a great, wild, and rugged experience. My only negatives were lack of a good backcountry permit system, way too much air traffic in the backcountry units, and it’s so very difficult to get away from the view of road in some units (we were in units 32, 9, and 10).

Carol King

We love this park for its beauty and majesty. Our TWT driver, Don, was friendly, helpful and professional. He is a living book of knowledge about Denali NP and shares it wonderfully.

Sheila McDonald

AMAZING! ASTONISHNG! We only wish we could have traveled the full 90 miles into the park (end of season limits) and that Denali mountain was closer to the park entrance (130 miles away).

Pat McCord

Fabulous...awesome...drove 15 miles to Savage River and turned back. Came back going really slow and spotted a Moose and her 2 calves. Scenery is awesome. Everyone should visit Denali National Park.

Karen Kropp

Flight was amazing. No clouds. Our pilot answered many questions. He was excellent and the flight was so smooth. It is one of the world's wonders. The glaciers are beyond imagination.

Alaska ICE

Best national park in Alaska. Pristine, dynamic geography and abundant wildlife.

Tony Di Schino

Just beautiful. The last untouched wilderness in North America. The rangers are extremely knowledgeable and have so much to tell the public about this great place! We saw moose and caribou and birds and learned so much about how the preserve came to be. See it now.

Jessica Reynolds

This was my favorite place that I visited while exploring Alaska on my recent trip. It is worth the extra drive to go seek the way to the National Park instead of just going to the state park. I traveled from Anchorage.

Cindy Walker

Wonderful! Stayed at Teklanika Campground and rode the green bus twice. Saw bears, caribou, Dall sheep and more. Would highly recommend.

Tom Simpson

Fantastic Park! We saw tons of wildlife including grizzly bears, moose and caribou. Lots of wilderness. Although the tours do provide for handicapped individuals, it does have a lot of walking involved.

John Buren

Beautiful place, massive and full of interesting things to see.

Robert Blew

Our favorite stop in Alaska, thus far... And we've only touched the surface of the East end of the park on day 1. Fantastic hikes and amazing views around every corner.

Sunshine Zeng

Don't be misled by the name. You don't get a good view of Denali peaks from the park. It's best viewed at the South viewpoint, about 1.5 hour south of the park entrance. We did see a lot of wild lives. The shuttle bus drivers are great. We toke the 6.5h shuttle, which I heard does not differ from too much from the 8h shuttle.

Donald Evans

Fabulous views. Great tour guide. Take Tundra tour.

Ryan Goding

Stunning mountain views and a good view of the Alaskan wilderness. Can be hard to see the summit of Denali so consider pairing a flight with the park visit. Can be warm by mid summer (roughly 90) or chilly so plan with layers. Additionally, make sure camera batteries are charged because every view is photo - worthy

Shelby Foerg

Beautiful scenery. Immense amount of land to cover you could spend your whole life exploring this place. Saw lots of amazing wildlife. The view was breathtaking. I'd love to do more hiking next time I visit.

John Abanco

If you can sit for two minutes, you can see wildlife. You just have to be willing to look.

Radek Kobylka

Jaw dropping views of the tallest peak on north America. A must visit for anyone. Words can't describe the beauty. Come see it for yourself.

Bill S

The park road tours are a great experience; get up early for the best wildlife viewing. The visitor’s center is the must starting place for anyone hoping to fully experience this National Park. The staff is friendly and well informed about the opportunities that await you. Don’t miss the videos that are offered for a unique view of park offerings that you may never experience.

Leslie Kaplan

The long bus ride is the way to go, as are the bikes. You can do hikes at the visitor's center, the Mountain View and the Savage River bus stops for free. They are worth the time.

Jenney Tello

Jeff Brown, the host at Wonder Lake, went above and beyond! He answered questions, gave advice, and even provided duct tape to repair broken boots--and always with a smile. We could not have asked for better. Doris, the ranger, was very friendly, genuine, and helpful. Makes for a memorable experience even in less-than ideal weather.

Robert Coleman

One of the most beautiful and incredible places I visited during my four month visit to Alaska, can't wait to see it all again. Already planning a trip the summer of 2020.

Stephen Tschudi

One of Earth's great places. So glad 2,000,000 acres of the park have been designated wilderness.

Bryan Ford

A MUST SEE ! Very well managed. An example of how most parks should be managed. Lots of wildlife.

Nick Kahler

Even more incredible than folks say! For the benefit of others here are some small tips/lessons we learned. 80% of visitors arrive by train, we were in an RV so it was tougher to move around. Propane refill was 30 minutes away, one gas station in town was difficult to access with RV for fuel we loved the dogsled demo in the park area and the green transit bus was the right choice for us also, only 20% of guests can see Denali peak, so snap a pic first chance you get!

James Davis

What can I say but perfect? You need to see this place to believe it. No other words or pictures can do it justice. Highly recommend the bus tour as well. Had a driver by the name of Bruce and he was fantastic!

Yash Srivastava

This place makes you feel so tiny and insignificant in the grand scheme of things. It's vastness is mind blowing. Even though we didn't get to see Mt Denali because of clouds, this was completely worth it. We saw bears, moose, a few goats among other wildlife. The views from the road to Kanthisna are amazing as well. Even though we didn't camp or hike in the park, I would recommend it to people who can. We definitely want to go back there to hike or camp once.

Jim Landrum

Beautiful place, with great views. The tour guide are very knowledgeable and love to share their experiences with you. A abundance of wild life to be found all around.

Anita Kingree

Denali National Park and Preserve is a beautiful place with lands untouched by man. It is important to note that Denali is more of a preserve than a "park." Cars are not allowed beyond the bus station. You must buy a bus ticket to go very deep into the park. There are no real "trails" past the bus depot either. My husband and I hiked the tundra by compass just to make sure we didn't get turned around in all the wide open land. If you buy a bus ticket, you can get off the bus at any stop and catch another bus later. The only problem with this is, the buses are really full, and it's very hard to find a bus that has room for you to hitch a ride back. I feel like Denali needs to get a better system for making sure hikers don't get stranded. Some hikers were waiting and told by 5-6 buses that there was no room. When my husband and I were trying to catch a bus back after a hike, we were over 50 miles from our car, so walking back wasn't an option. When we finally caught a bus, it was almost completely full and we had to sit away from one another. The bus driver would stop if someone spotted wildlife, but you had to remain on the bus and it was so crowded that getting a good view of anything was difficult. The bus system is really set up like more of a sight-seeing adventure. It's very crowded and touristy. If you enjoy that type of thing and want to sit on a crowded bus for 4+ hours, you would probably enjoy this. I prefer exploring alone. I should also add, there is no where to buy food or drinks past the bus station, so make sure you bring all you will need for a full days' adventure!

Georgianna Leete

This is the most amazing spot! Magnificent mountain views of Denali are astounding. Took the bus tour to Eilyson and were able to see moose, grizzly bears, caribou and of course bald eagles. The guide was informative and helpful. It is a long day but well worth it!

Prajwal Yadapadithaya

Absolutely incredible place! The sight of Denali at mile 62 into the national park is one of the most jaw dropping views I've ever seen in my life. The abundance of wildlife is also mind blowing. Very strongly recommend taking the transit bus all the way to wonder lake.

Fats DuBois

I saw this on the back of the 2012 quarter so I've pretty much been there.

Martin Hall

Nice park, but make your reservations early. Everything is booked up all summer. To see any of it you have to take a bus tour. They run from $50 to $275 per person

Alan Mollenhauer

Joe, our driver and guide was the best. The day was filled with many sightings even a full view of the mountain. Definitely recommend it.

Tina Vannatter

A completely different landscape than I have encountered in my travels. Beautiful vistas, helpful people...a great place.
