I was looking for a painter near me in Madison WI to paint the exterior siding of my home and a few interior walls that required drywall repairs. I had been putting these projects off for years but after noticing a few areas of wood rot, I was finally ready to hire someone. I scheduled estimates with some of the bigger painting companies in Madison like genesis painting, thrift painting, braun, and megna painters but didn’t really "click" with any of the reps that came out. I had a gut feeling that I might be putting this large project off another year until I stumbled upon 3rd Gen Painting while searching through madison painter reviews online. I’d never heard of 3rd Gen painting before but after reading their story online and seeing some of their stellar reviews, I filled out one of the price quote forms on their website (half-expecting to never get a response). Within minutes, Matt, the owner, emailed me to set up an estimate time. After playing phone tag with other painters the past few months, I was surprised at how easy it was to set up. Matt stopped by later that week. He was one of the most professional contractors I had ever met. He pointed out multiple areas of wood rot that other painters hasd missed and described the extensive prep process that his crews would perform. He seemed to really know his stuff! Matt emailed me a very detailed price quote for my project. His prices fell right in the middle of the quotes I had received so far (higher than thrift or braun painting but a bit lower than genesis & megna painting). I decided to finally pull the trigger with 3rd Gen and I could not be happier that I did. Working with Matt and his painting crews was hands-down the best experience I have had with any painting contractors in Madison to date. They showed up on time, finished early, and left my house cleaner that they had found it. The communication was excellent and I was very pleased with quality of the job. We most certainly would recommend 3rd Gen painting to anyone looking for a quality interior or exterior painters in Madison WI. Thank you again for the great work!

Matt and his crew had two daunting tasks: ripping out a monster-sized, rotting deck and then rebuilding it; and proving that there are contractors who show up when they say they will and do efficient, beautiful work. They more than succeeded. They understood how wary we were thanks to the horrible guy we worked with previously, very graciously accommodated our extra precautionary requests, and made sure to communicate with us every step of the way. AND, when some signals got crossed, they corrected the (minor) issues quickly. Bottom line: We recommend 3rd Gen to anyone without reservation. They were hardworking, honest, and did a fantastic job on a crazy project.

Matt painted a swatch of the color I picked for the porch and when I didn't like it he was happy to bring me more options so that we could choose another color that we really liked. We highly recommend 3rd Gen. Our older home developed a serious problem at the base of our large garden window (build out) and sky light. The wood foundation had rotted out and we thought we would have to replace the entire structure (four windows and two sky lights) that sit on the base. Matt examined the problem inside and out and provided us with two alternatives: a polished replacement of the area or a difficult repair and modification that would solve the problem at a fraction of the replacement cost. We opted for the repair and are thrilled with the outcome. The problem is fixed, the 3rd Gen team displayed a variety of skills in making the structure essentially as good as new. In addition to fixing this problem, 3rd Gen also cleaned, repaired, and stained our aging deck. Here too, things turned out better than expected. The team was thorough in their analysis of problems, skilled in addressing the problems, and they interacted extremely well with each other as well as with us. We have already arranged for additional work! Matt and his team were pleasure to work with from beginning to end. After scheduling an appointment with Matt, we had a good conversation about the best way to proceed and set a date and price for the work. Though the work was delayed a bit by the excessive rains and our travel schedule, Matt maintained close contact, provided excellent communication, and was extremely flexible. The workmen showed up as expected and completed the job in an efficient manner. The price was exactly as promised. Supervision of the work by Matt and others was excellent. All of the workers were very friendly and helpful as well as talented. 3rd Gen is a great choice for a variety of projects!

Finding the right company to paint your house can be intimidating. There are so many companies, and it's hard to know which are genuine and which will be a nightmare. In that respect, I hit the jackpot with 3rd Generation. Matt and his crew were talented, smart, hard-working, detail-oriented and fun to have around. At one point during the project, Matt said it really just comes down to doing what you said you would do and doing it well.
