Based on my experience I would not recommend using Student Painters. Do not fall for the "Kids trying to get experience" line that they feed you. For most of them it is just a summer job and they treat it as such. After not properly prepping my deck the paint was already coming off within a couple of months. Also, during the painting, they got paint on everything even remotely close to the deck! This included the brick of my house, which can't come off! They came out a couple of times to do "touch up" on the entire sections of my deck that they missed. Still looks bad.
Filed a warranty claim and they send out some kid straight out of school with an attitude that they've done nothing wrong and it must be the paint or it must be something we've done. We mentioned that we wanted to clean it from normal winter dirt but were scared to pressure wash it for fear that they would blame us for how poorly the paint was. The kid actually laughed and said "yah, probably."
So the best they offer is to come back out a fourth time and do more touch up. Or give us a gallon of paint and let us do the work ourselves. If that was the case, and knowing how poor their work was, I would have done it myself the first time!
We told them we wanted money back since they painted our brick which decreases my homes value and they said no.
This whole situation is happening to a neighbor too! Do yourself a favor, read the Yelp reviews and either do the work yourself or go with someone else. We thought we were doing something nice by hiring Student Painters, but in the end, it was just some kids goofing off, slapping paint on my brick house (and everything else) instead of the deck they were paid to paint! In my opinion it's due to lack of oversight. You have kids in charge of kids so there is no accountability for poor workmanship. And I'm not even that much older than them and I know better!
