Roberto was a hero for us! We bought our condo 4 years ago and it came with bricked up or plastered over fireplaces. We asked a bunch of contractors for help but none were able to restore them or replace with a gas or electrical option. Finally somebody recommend old Boston to us. Roberto scoured a network of salvage yards to track down original fireplace inserts and full fire place set ups that fit exactly with our antique fireplace. He refinished the new pieces and installed all within a couple of weeks. He charged us a very reasonable rate for all of that work. We highly recommend!

I've hired Roberto and his team to do a few jobs for me, from very small hardware fixes through to a larger project involving a lot of finish woodwork and matching, and in all cases he's done a great job. He's incredibly knowledgeable about historic hardware, materials, and processes, and takes care when making changes that new areas blend seamlessly with old. He'll always take the time to avoid shoddy workmanship and cutting corners (and more than once has taken extra time to correct things where previous owners didn't take that care!). Combine that with his reasonable rates and extremely quick and pleasant communication, and I don't think there's a better company out there if you need any kind of work done on your older Boston-area home.

We recently hired Old Boston to design and install period appropriate crown molding in our Back Bay living room. We shared a picture of beautiful, original crown molding with Roberto, and he was able to re-create a model of the crown molding. This property is a second home for us so it can be tricking scheduling work while we’re there. From the very beginning, Roberto was very accommodating with planning the work around our schedule. On the agreed upon start date, Roberto and his subcontractor, Jimmy, arrived on time and began setting up. They both were very professional and courteous throughout the project. Roberto estimated that the work would take 3-5 days, and it went into 5 days. The funny, little corners and bowed front presented unique challenges which Roberto and Jimmy worked hard to overcome. When completed, the crown molding looked elegant! One of our neighbors commented that it looked like it had always been there which is the ultimate compliment. We have additional upcoming projects that I will be discussing with Roberto. I value his knowledge about old buildings and admire his passion for restoration work.

Roberto is fantastic. He was able to restore a 19th century fire door and mount it to my fireplace. He is a craftsman and most importantly a nice person. It was a joy to work with him and he did a great job restoring, cleaning and matching the marble to make the fireplace look great again in my brownstone in the South End. He was even able to diminish the large crack in the cast iron by hammering it down and refinishing the plate to show off the image. The pictures on the website show how bad it looked before and how amazing it is now! Thank you Roberto!

My house was built at the end of the nineteenth century and by hiring Old Boston I've been able to enhance the beauty of its interior at a reasonable fee. For the first-floor walls, Old Boston chose historical colors that I wouldn't have thought of selecting and that I've received lots of compliments on, which would not have happened if I had selected the colors myself. Among other things, they helped me select antique lighting, designed a newel post for the bottom of the staircase, chose fabric for the first-floor curtains and added to their style with finials, tie-backs, and tassels, and helped me in acquiring individual pieces such as a large antique mirror for a hallway wall. Roberto Poli, who heads Old Boston, is very cultured and has wide-ranging knowledge of restoration and design, and his company is great to work with, including his painters and craftsmen. I'm looking forward to having Old Boston do a more extensive renovation in my home.

As the trustee of 12 Greenwich Park Condo Association, I met Roberto and made plans with hime to repair our decrepit front door. Honestly I didn't think much could be done about it as it was badly damaged. Roberto not only repaired it beautifully, he did it on time and at a reasonable price. We were very happy with the result.
