My wife and I had our home's exterior painted by John and his crew. He is a very pleasant and personable gentleman who explained what was to be done, delivered a reasonable proposal, then performed the work holding to that proposal. The crew cleaned up every day and completed the process is about 5 business days. The home was beginning to show its years and now it looks like it did 20+ years ago! Good job John!

We scheduled our house to be painted in the beginning of June, when we thought the weather would be great. It rained for weeks. The staff at College Works came constantly to try and paint the house and did everything they could to move the job along. We were also kept in constant contact and were kept abreast of any and all changes to the schedule. We did many walk-arounds to look at the house and point out places where additional work might be needed. Through our very needy anal retentive guidance, we were granted everything we needed. We were happy with the price, but much happier with the customer service.

Professional and thorough, John was detailed in doing the estimate, walking me around the house and pointing out how each area of concern would be handled. We also did walk-arounds before work began and after it was finished. John was able to start the project earlier than promised, and the work was completed on schedule without being rushed. In particular, I appreciated that the crew kept things tidy and cleaned up behind themselves. I'm happy with the results and would definitely recommend John.

I would like to thank Robert Prince for his work on my house. We had a lot of rain and difficulties with some of his workers, but he stayed on top of all of the trouble and did a great job. He paid attention to small details and made some great suggestions about the trim and doors. When I found spots that they missed, he took care of it personally and went around the house looking for other spots that might have been missed. He came back a few days after the work had been completed and fixed some other spots that were not to his liking. When two of his employees did not show up, he let me know that there was a problem and that he would take care of it as soon as he was able. Then he came back with a larger crew to complete that job. All in all Robert was a good worker and manager and I would recommend him for any job.

John and Penn did an excellent job painting a portion of my cedar-sided home in Mill Creek today, finally finishing up about 6 p.m.. They worked very hard and efficiently, paid attention to detail and gave consideration to my special requests. Perhaps I was a bit of a difficult customer, but John listened to my concerns and addressed them to my satisfaction. A small point, he failed to call me to let me know he was running behind schedule, but I understand that it's difficult to schedule painting in the rainy weather that we've been having. I have no hesitation in recommending his work to others.

Our house was a tough job since it had not been painted for probably 8-10 years. Ultimately I think we could have seen more sanding, and some more attention to detail on some spots. But the areas that I cited were always followed up on by the crew. We were happy that the team addressed our concerns, they always listened to my feedback.

We had a very good experience working with John and his team of painters. They completed two separate projects. One at the front of our home painting the porch floor Navy Ship gray and the black hand rails up the steps to the porch. The preparation work was excellent and should provide a lot of wear. In the rear of our home they power washed and sanded our wood deck, stained it and painted the white railing. John kept us well informed as to schedule. The work site was maintained in an organised/ clean manner. The team worked diligently and it was a good experience for us.

Jeff and the crew did a very nice job in tackling a rather challenging painting project -- older home with cracked and pealing paint; high peaked roofs and windows that required roping and a bit of ingenuity to get to safely, and rather demanding clients! We met with Alex Chapdelaine who walked us through the estimate and what we should expect through the process. The estimate was inline with what we had expected from doing the work ourselves previously (plus the cost of labor). The job was done in a timely fashion and to our requirements.

No customer service. Sloppy work. More paint on the ground than on the house. Supervisor was argumentative and unwilling to finish the job. I was rushed thru a final inspection and pressured to leave positive reviews. My contract stated 2 coats of paint and they would caulk any gaps. Only one coat of paint and not one tube of caulk was used.

My wife and I are typically pretty big do-it-yourselfers, and rarely spend any time with companies that go door to door. However we were extremely busy this fall and our first visit by Alex Chapdelaine was very far from your typical door to door sales pitch. Right from the beginning he was extremely courteous, gave us an extremely brief description of what College Works does, and then took the time to ask us if we were interested at all before going into more details. It was so refreshing to have someone let me decide whether it is worth my time to listen to their detailed pitch before they start. Throughout the process Alex was fantastic. He gave laid out options very clearly and it was obvious he was not trying to oversell us on product or make a larger margin by pushing us for cheaper product. Alex cleaned up after himself after each step of the process, was extremely conscientious, and communicated with us very well. Having seen the quality of work that was done, and the amount of time spent on the project, I am quite certain I actually saved money having College Works do my project -- something I don't think I could say about any other contract work we have ever had done. I am very confident that I will use College Works again in the future, and would highly recommend them to anyone looking to have exterior work done.

We were contacted in February about getting an estimate and told them we would not be at all interested until the end of April. In early May, Logan Dilik called to set up an appointment. We accepted his bid but warned him he would have to work around our hectic summer schedule. Logan was quite knowledgeable, provided great assistance, and worked within our time parameters to insure the job was completed. We experienced slight damage to our garage door system during pressure washing and due to paint "sticking" the door shut. Other than that, so far we are quite pleased with the results, the professional manner in which the sale and the job were performed, and have recommended Logan and College Works to several of our friends.

I am shocked at how awful our experience was. I trusted these reviews and now believe they are fake. The problems were so bad we asked the painters to not finish the trim in the front of the house because we planned to do it ourselves. After they painted there was paint spray and drips on everything...Our vehicles, railings, expensive furniture, edible plants, brick work, doors, and more. The workers tried to remove with wipes to no avail. They painted the doors to the house while they were closed leaving a line of unpainted door when you open it. Same with door frame. We asked before they began if they would cover the gardens with something to prevent lead paint scrapings from getting in. We were told they would. They were not. After asking multiple times including writing emails to the main company for a supervisor or someone to please at least call us about the quality of work done we were never called. We gave them weeks to respond and many polite emails with the corporate office were exchanged but no one has ever called or inquired about what they can do to help.

The college sales man did a great job selling their services. However the follow through was very poor. Estimating for exterior repair had to be revised twice. Scope of work was not clarified clearly ever and carpentry work had to be redone. The painting crew while friendly, and mostly clean said they patch and repair holes, they repaired one hole, and even did not prep the new carpentry performed by their company. Parts of the exterior trim were never touched and will have to be touched up by myself. I thought we had hired professionals. This crew is NOT professional. We registered for the warranty so when the paint peels from the non paintable caulk applied by their company, they can fix it. Not recommended.

I could not be happier with Noah Stone and College Works Painting. I was contacted by Noah about having my house painted this past summer. Noah came to the house in the spring, explained the service they would provide and the materials they would use, and answered all of my questions. He was professional, articulate, helpful and knowledgeable about all aspects of the business. I contracted with him to paint the brick on my house (which had been previously painted years ago), and put down a deposit. Noah kept in touch and scheduled a work date with me well in advance, and then he followed up and showed up as planned. He was always on the job early in the morning, and worked hard all day. When the paint store gave him a paint color that was not exactly what I wanted, he worked with them until the PERFECT color was obtained, which required him to go above and beyond what many others would do. My house looks amazing !!! I would hire Noah Stone again in a heartbeat. His work ethic, competence and professionalism were top notch. Add to that the fact that working with College Works Painting gives a young student a decent summer income and invaluable work experience running their own business, and it's such a great feeling knowing that you're supporting them in a small way.... Overall, our experience with College Works Painting was very good. The contractor, Alex Chapdelaine, was courteous and communicated well. He did a good job of scheduling the workdays for getting our deck painted; and, he made sure the work was well done. He and his crew were pretty challenged by our job due to the contractor building the deck taking 3 weeks longer than expected to complete it, bringing our job to the end of the summer season. Alex and his guys could've done a shoddy job, so they could get back to school; but, they kept their word and completed the job within their time constraints. Our deck looks great! We'll use College Works again with any other upcoming jobs.

I was quite pleased with the work done by College Works Painting this summer. My house was in particular need of the some restoration and care. And Alex Bohn, Brett Warnick and their crew proved themselves capable of every request. One matter they had hoped to try, but decided against, was a faux wood door. When Alex realized this was going to be outside their skill level, he contacted the best painting artist in the area, who came and provided an estimate. Their professionalism and courtesy made the whole project a pleasure. Of course there were issues that came, and were pleasantly resolved. My name is Anne and I have just had my house painted by College Works Painting. The project was coordinated and ran by Nahshon Kim. Back in March, I was warmly approached by a man who conveyed wonderful professionalism and although I was not considering painting at the time, Nahshon presented himself and the company so well that I had so much faith in getting work done. What made Nahshon exceptional was his personality. He was extremely personable and I felt I was not being approached by some normal contractor. When the actual work began in June, there were two instances where his workers did not show. Nahshon took the initiative to take matters into his own hands and did some of the work himself. He also took care of the little things such as ensuring that my yard was clean. The job was very difficult as my house is composed of heavy stucco, but everything came out absolutely beautiful. If I had a concern, I was readily accommodated with no problems. As a painting company, I find that using college educated individuals to present the actual job as well as getting the work done is fabulous. Nahshon always kept in contact with me so my experience was stress-free. He was exceptionally eager to meet any needs and concerns that I had. I felt very comfortable and confident that he knew exactly what quality work was and my newly painted house proves his work ethic. I would highly recommend anyone to Nahshon, not only for service related matters, but for anything dealing with costumer service, hard work ethic and integrity. He is a man of his word!

From the beginning this job was handled in a professional manner. Oliver Castanteen and his manager, Jeff Long, prepared an estimate for us in late April. They both were fair in their negotiation of price and finalization of the work to be done and a start date. The painting started a couple of days late, but after several days of work, I could tell that the job would be done in an excellent manner. I was pleased that the team took time preparing the 25 year old siding. They worked so diligently that they were able to crank out the job in a single day! My husband and I had College Works give an estimate on priming, scraping and painting our long overdue house. We were not sure what we could afford but we did get a few estimates. Some were much higher than College Works and 1 or 2 were the same or a hair less. Douglas Wells sold himself. He was professional, kind, hard working and we fell in love with him. So we took a chance. When you don't have a lot of money to play with you really have to be careful. It just seemed right. Douglas and Pete came on time, actually a little early. Started immediately after we went through everything we wanted one more time. They worked and cleaned everyday and when finished again went through the entire house again and there were a few things that I made a mistake on and few things we just wanted gone over. Nothing went right with College Works Painting. They were delayed in starting by a month, and they only agreed to start when I asked to have my deposit refunded. The painter was concerned about finishing, so he could move on to his next job. He did a terrible job. No pre-washing of walls as promised. One coat of paint - not two. Paint spots on woodwork and carpeting and spots that were entirely missed. I will NEVER use them again. It was a terrible experience.

Got our brand new untreated cedar deck stained 2 years ago - the next spring, the stain PEALED. Normally decks aren't under warrenty, but because this shouldn't happen, they were good enough to re-stain. However they didn't strip the previous stain. So again this spring, it pealed again. This time, they won't grant a warrenty. We asked for a refund since not only did we not get the outcome we paid for, we are now worse off than before - we have to strip the previous stain and now stain the deck ourselves. We paid for this service because originally I was pregnant and we wanted to decrease our chore load that summer. Now we have to do this extra work, have a 2 year old and I am pregnant again. They said they will give us 25% refund. We're taking it, because it's better than nothing. But we recommend you do NOT use this company for any staining purposes.

I had my large back deck & railings, expansive play structure, and several wooden benches power washed and re-stained in 2012 in order to prepare the house for sale. Once completed, the deck looked outstanding, almost as good as new 12y earlier. The play structure and wood benches also looked very refreshed and matched deck perfectly. Patrick Flynn, and College Works painting did an excellent job. The process was painless, and the end result really helped me get top dollar for the house when it was sold. If you want your 20 year old brother and his 2 sloppy buddies with no painting experience to paint your house, then hire this company. Everything they do is in a rush, therefore, it’s sloppy. There is NO quality control or accountability. YOU have to find their mistakes, and trust me - there will be plenty. Three weeks after my job was done, I noticed they failed to paint 90% of the back sides of my facia. It took weeks to get my rep back out to paint it and he was NOT happy to do it. There was paint all over my roof, sidewalk, 2 paver patios that were each 25 feet away from my house, brick, stucco, gates, walkways, grill, hose, rain barrels, etc.. Everything had paint on it. After SEVERAL contacts, I got them to come back & clean maybe 1/2 of it up several weeks later. There was a bunch of paint on the brick walkway right in front of my back door that I insisted they clean up the day after our house was painted. As far as the internship is concerned the business management skills of my rep were awful. He was bad at customer service (it was apparent he just didn’t care), he was bad at communication, he was bad at time management, he was bad at quality, he was bad at checking his own work. The night they completed our house, which was 8:45 p.m., in the dark, I noticed they missed the front facia on the side of my house. So they quickly and sloppily got up and painted it, dropping an entire can of paint on my brick walkway. At first, the worker was going to leave half the spilled paint there, but luckily I saw it and the rep was there, so he made him keep flushing it with water until the majority was cleaned up. Both myself and a friend had our houses painted by College Works and we both regret it. We both had the same experienced and would never recommend them. It’s a poorly run company that does a poor poor job.

This was the worst company to EVER deal with. Purchased a new home and wanted the trim painted white. We had about 2 weeks before the job needed to be started (longer prior to that it just took them about a week to finally get in touch after I sent the request). They agreed it would take 3 days to completed the trim work inside of the whole house. Well I give the key to the painters on a Friday and come to find out they didn't start the job until Sunday. This means they have 1 day to complete everything they said would apparently take 70 hours or more. Pretty much I'm being charged an excessive amount for 1 days but when they gave me the price it was including an estimated 70 hours of work..Don't waste your money times or breath on these people. They over price and then contract the work out to cheap unprofessional painters that are getting paid for working on not only your house but their other jobs during that scheduled time. Thanks for the worst experience every. First time home buy wanting work done before we move in and it has totally destroyed the experience because of how shady and unprofessional this company is.

I am writing this letter of reference for Alec Way. His team initially approached my home representing College Works Painting back in the spring. I generally do not accept soliciting at my door, but they caught me on a good day. I needed some work done, and I thought why not give the kids a chance. Alec was not present at the time, but his team assured me that Alec would be contacting me on the given date, and that he did. He called and we scheduled a time to meet. He arrived promptly and presented himself professionally and was prepared to explain College Works and the variety of services that he could provide. I was impressed with his drive and it was comforting to know that he received several honors and awards at our local high school, including LRHS Murphy Memorial Scholar, and was very active in our community, and is currently pursuing a Major in Economics at UNC Chapel Hill. In my situation, I needed power washing in various areas and deck staining (large deck). Alec measured the area I requested and provided a detailed estimate explaining my options. We struck a deal. Alec came out to do the power washing himself on the scheduled day. I was at work at the time. When I came home that evening, I did a walk around and found some areas that I felt needed more attention. This was around 7 PM and I called him. He dropped what he was doing and came back out to address my issues and completed the power washing to my satisfaction. It is nightfall at this point and rain is in the forecast for tomorrow. Now we are running into conflicts with my vacation. Alec finished up the job while I was away on vacation. He worked on a weekend to accomplish this. I was more than pleased with the finished product. The deck is very old and it turned out much better than I ever expected! This was a nice surprise to come home to from vacation. As we continued to work with him, from the bidding process to the completion of our job, we found him to be dependable, responsible and very concerned that we were satisfied with the work that was being done on our home. We were able to observe Royce interacting with his crew and were impressed with his leadership skills. He was able to direct his workers and keep them on task. He did so with authority, but also with encouragement and praise when appropriate. During the time that Royce and his crew were working at our house, they were always on time. They worked a full day. I contracted with Robert Prince for the staining of my new deck. I wanted to use the Consumer Reports top-rated stain (Behr) and though he came by the house to get the specific brand and model name he subsequently asked my to purchase the stain (and deduct the cost from the contract). It took unexpectedly long to get the work scheduled. When the appointed day came (a Saturday) he arrived alone and got off to a slow start. He appeared to have only one brush and one roller. I suggested that there were painting pads that would be faster and smoother to use. He realized he would need assistance and left for a while to get another person. When he returned he also had some painting pads. By the end of the day they could not finish everything and Robert said he would return to complete the job and do touch-ups on Monday. He did return as promised. Throughout my dealings with Robert, he was courteous and polite. I believe he was well intentioned but feel he was unprepared to handle the task - though ultimately everything was resolved to my satisfaction.

I had the good fortune of working with Jeff Cooper on my porch painting project. The house is 100+ years old and the porch is suffering a bit (a lot). Jeff seemed un-phased by the challenge and the price was competitive so despite my reservations about working with college students with relatively little experience, I signed up. I will say this, Jeff did an excellent job in the customer service and sales department and the quality of work was good. I had to ask them to do a number of things that I believe would have been obvious to seasoned painters, but whatever I asked, they complied with smiles on their faces and polite words. The only reason that I did not give a perfect rating is because I feel like I got lucky in that I had the Project Manager and crew that I had. The College Works Painters have been trained extensively I am sure, but there is no substitute for years on the job and I would probably only recommend the company to someone who has a schedule that would allow them to be onsite during the process. As for Jeff himself, I would recommend him without hesitation to any potential employer or customer of whatever field he chooses to go in to.

Through LeeAnn's persistence and attention to our needs, we kept her in the bidding process, although the bid was initially very high. I do not recommend College Works and will never use them again. I was giving them the benefit of the doubt and completely regret it. The crew was very inexperienced, were not prepared for the job, and were very careless about where paint should go versus were it should not go. They had gotten paint on my carpet, sinks, showers, walls that shouldn't have been painted, and appliances. They removed some wall plates and taped around others. Did not tape outlets and got paint on those. Did not tape the trim well and got paint in spots on the trim. I had to have the crew come back three times to fix things. I asked for a discount due to these issues and the crew lead asked if he could just pay me cash on the side. This is very shady... I was able to get a 10% discount through the company, but such a pain in the butt. Please do not attempt to use this company. Go with real professionals, even if it costs a bit more.

There were some communication lags at the beginning, and our job didn't start as quickly as had been promised, mostly due to the intern having a health issue, but once that was resolved things went very smoothly. I was fortunate enough to have dealing with Jimmy Hessel on our work in Avon OH. Jimmy had 4 Supervisors on our job as a reward won on a competition on summer sales, which proves that he is a hard worker. The work was done on the dates specified, amongst frequent heavy rain delays with lightning which made some of the work needing to be re-done. The young men worked hard, Jimmy brought them lunch and hydration during the 2 day project. The men were done with 90% on the first day, left the property cleaned up and the house looks great, which sets off the new roof and gutters we installed. I am a former painter for College Works painting and I wish I could rate this lower. The reason I wish I was able to rate even lower is the experience I had working there. College Works is an awful company especially in MN. There is no real training for painters and pay is at state minimum 8.00 an hour. Worse still is the fact that the company even at one point was paying me lower than minimum wage. Since me leaving the company I have been trying to get a hold of anyone from the company to request my last paycheck. No one from College Works has been willing to tell me how to get a hold of payroll. In short this company should not be allowed to operate due to them not caring about safety, quality or their employees. Also look at the company website where they describe how to avoid scams and how they compare themselves to not being a pyramid scheme, seems pretty fishy that they would feel the need to say that.

In the past I have always used professional painting contractors, but two years ago decided to give one of the College Works Painting interns a try. It was the worst mistake. A job which should have taken one week dragged on all summer until mid-August because the intern was always late, disappeared for hours each day, and had a crew which changed by the day. Later when warranty work was required because an area of the house had not been properly prepped I had to contact the national headquarters to get a response. I was promised a 'professional' crew would do the warranty work. Instead another intern contacted me. Fortunately, he was the exact opposite of the previous intern and competed the warranty work in short order and did a fine job. Still the area supervisor, Chris Hamilton, ignored my attempts to contact him and never made any attempt to be sure the warranty work was satisfactorily completed.

I contracted this company originally for painting. I gave them $1000 deposit, way more than the 10% required. When I found a contractor to do the job for half the price, they refused to give my any of my deposit back. I was forced to use them and hired them for my gutters instead. The installers were fantastic but the company that contracted them I felt was unethical.

Through the persuesive advise of Michael Fasbender, I contracted with College Works Painiting to have my redwood house restained. Under the the direction of Ryan Siewert, the quality of the project was exemplary. We couldn"t have been more pleased. Both Ryan and Michael more than delivered on their presentations. The job was completed in a very timely and neat pattern. Unlike previous stainiings there was no evidence of spillage or splatter. Loose nails had been fixed, caulking done where necessary, and excess stain (which I had purchased previously) was returned. A matching paint was required for my weathered garage garage doors. The paint was selceted and applied by Ryan. The doors had not looked as good since they were new. I had my house built in 1977. I have had to restain it five times. The job done by Ryan and crew was in my estimate the best. Based on my experiencewith the quality of personel and wormanship, I would recommend College Works Painting without reservation.

On 21 May 2013, Anne Weigand brought her student team of painters to our home as planned to paint 12 shutters, 1 set of wooden doors on an outside shed and 4 steel doors on our home. All had been previously power-washed by a member on her team who also power washed the siding on our home, garage and shed. These students were very efficient, conscientious and pleasant to work with and Anne an excellent team leader. They did a good job on prepping, painting and clean up. I would certainly recommend them to anyone who needs assistance in maintaining the upkeep on their home when it comes to painting projects to keep their home looking good. I believe in what these kids do, but I believe they are the sales force ONLY. They only (if I could reach them at all) preferred to communicate by text. I did not know WHO was my point of contact EVER! They hire contractors for the work they do and my guess is they hire the lowest bidder to work on houses. We had construction and painting crews and both jobs were HORRIBLE. The construction crew had to do the work over and damaged our vinyl siding edge and just left it that way saying, "that's what happens when you replace wood trim." Like WTH, then that's a contingency that becomes part of YOUR JOB. When I addressed gaps between the sloppily cut wood I was told that's the painters job to "caulk as they go." Well, when the painters got here, they said it was the construction guys' responsibility. Thank goodness I had some caulk and wood filler on hand for them to use. I was told by the siding installer who was there the week prior I should expect to see the painters go through a case of caulk at least! Any way, they were great people, the crew lead communicated with me often, and she was so patient when I was in the hospital, and dealt with my crazy schedule so when we finally set the date, I didn't mind letting them store their ladders at my house over the weekend. The crew was polite and clean, but they did absolutely NO prep work on our trim. No scraping old pealing paint, no pulling old stray, staples, nails, or screws, no caulking of gaps or knot holes...nothing. I was married to a professional home finisher so I learned a thing or two. Go down to Sherwin-Williams where they have a display of business cards of professional painters. At least you can know who you're hiring. With College Works, you don't know who you're going to get. 0 Stars if I could.
