I'm pretty disappointed in Chesapeake Painting Services because I have really have really enjoyed the work they have done in the past for me. But the past work was a "larger" job. I recently asked for them to come out and paint shutters on the second level of my home and they informed me the job was too "small" and they will not do projects for less than $1000. That's kinda messed up and arrogant. I suppose they are big kids now and are too good for "small projects".

Everyone i dealt with in this company was extremely professional. I cannot overstate how well of a job Victor and Gilberto did painting my living room, dining room, and hallway. We had very unappealing and difficult textured walls as well as ceilings, but they removed any trace of its ugliness and replaced it with a clean, crisply-applied look. The pricing was fair for the level of workmanship displayed and (for the sake of comparison) this isn't the only company I looked into before having the job done. My wife and I wanted to do the paint removal and painting ourselves (as well as a couple other home improvement jobs), but the difficulty of the texture removal is what caused us to seek a professional. After seeing the quality of work displayed by Chesapeake, we intend on hiring them for future jobs that we had initially planned to to do ourselves. I also appreciate the VP of operations, Josh coming over to see the results and speak with me on my level of satisfaction. I look forward to having Chesapeake complete more jobs in the near future.

CUT EVERY CORNER. Horrible experience. I hired Chesapeake Painters to remove and replace water damaged wood in the wall, new insulation, drywall, trim and paint. I had two days where the workers just didn't show up. They would text and say they were running late, be there in a couple hours, two hours later they would say another hour then they would later say sorry couldn't make it. Twice they did this and twice I wasted an entire day waiting for them. I had family from overseas over for one week and told them work would have to pause for this week but they INSISTED it would be just "one more day". That one day took the entire week, and the following week. They knew this was the case and chose to lie about it. $2800 in flights to sit in my kitchen for a week getting drywall and insulation dust blown in their face. They had ZERO respect for my property or the health of my family. 1.They left dripping paint cans on my brand new carpet. 2.They got paint all over my carpet because they didn't bother to lay plastic down. 3. Globs of paint on the walls. 4. Didn't bother to sand down the drywall so it is bulging out of the wall and looks horrible. 5. Left materials outside on my property in the rain for 5 days then proceeded to try and install WET plywood in my wall. 6. When I insisted they get new plywood the workers bought particle board! When I complained they argued with me for over half an hour trying to convince me it was plywood. I'm female not an idiot. I paid for PLANKS of wood and these scum literally put PARTICLE BOARD in my wall. 7. The new insulation I paid for was deteriorating and looked like they stole from the dumpster or reusing someones old insulation. 8. Asked for semi-gloss paint and they used eggshell. 9. The guy ripped out and bent the pipes for my dishwasher and said he didn't know what they were for. No replacement. 10. They left a 2 inch gap between the wall and the floor in the kitchen because "you are putting cabinets there anyway" well turns out cabinets don't stop the single-digit air coming inside guys. 11. They cut HUGE holes for my kitchen plumbing and didn't fill in the gaps, again freezing air just flowing into my kitchen. 12. Another worker had the smart idea to move my sink and caused a leak, left it slowly dripping for 2 days before I realized. Wet floorboards now. 13. I had to constantly tell these guys what to do. "No, don't cut the wall around the cabinet (idiot) take the cabinet down and do it properly (like I paid you to do)". 14. They put insulation in backwards. 15. They didn't cover anything when sanding and choose to literally cut wood in my kitchen, covering me and my small children and my whole house in dust and wood. No fans, no vacuum, no protection or consideration for my family. 16. They didn't use tape when painting so the lines are wonky and uneven. 17. Used interior paint on external masonry. 18. Really poor craftsmanship and everything looks like a cheap DIY job (but worse) 19. The worst part to me was I hired them to fix my wall and they completely skipped an entire part of the wall, covered it all up and said it's too much work to fix now! I wish I could go back in time and hire ANYBODY else. That wasn't even the complete list of issues. I had SO much stress trying to stop the workers from cutting every single corner and the owner James acted like I am some bored housewife making a big deal out of nothing. They had to come out and redo the insulation in one area and damaged my trim in the process. It looks terrible. I am constantly reminded of their horrible work everywhere I go. Patching up all the holes they left! Bulging walls! Attaching numerous photos of their quality work.

Chesapeake replaced a number of damaged cedar shake tiles and repainted a house on the property I manage. They arrived on schedule and completed the project within the timeline they provided. The workmanship is professional and the house looks fantastic. Even more impressive than the workmanship was the fact that Chesapeake proactively followed up with me to conduct a job completion walk-through. Many of the contractors I have worked with through the years try to avoid a walk-through when the job is finished.

I can't say enough about how great Chesapeake Painting Services has been! Josh in particular was incredibly helpful and attentive from the first estimate, all the way through the wrap-up. We had our whole first floor painted, as well as some electrical work in the kitchen and a bit of carpentry to stabilize our stair railing and replace the hatch to the attic. I would never hire anyone else for painting or general contracting. James Guth is an honest man who makes sure his company's jobs are done correctly. I had exterior painting done initially a few months ago. Later I needed some carpentry work -- a new awning -- and also a french drain and some minor handyman stuff. The work crew did a great job. When I had questions, James took them personally and made sure that I was happy. He didn't really have to do all that, but he took an interest in the successful sale of my house and made sure I got to settlement without any problems. His fees were very reasonable. One of my closest friend's husband is a carpenter, but he works only for his wife. His comment about James was, "Congratulations, you've found a craftsman who knows how to do absolutely everything."

Chesapeake Painting Services re-painted probably 70% of our newly-bought home in March 2014. An up-front discount was given if we were to have over 1/2 of the rooms painted, which we did (bulk discount), and we were able to find swatches of major brand paints at Home Depot which the owner, James, compared to the Pittsburgh Paints that he typically uses (he just needed the color codes). The paints matched up as closely as the eye can tell. James said that he could get other brand paints, but preferred Pittsburgh, seemed fine for us. The painting was originally slated to take 2 days, but ended up taking about 2.5 since they had to remove some wallpaper strips, patch a few holes, and make sure that everything got double-coated and all fixtures were re-attached, in addition to the old wallpaper glue not showing. This was a major plus for us: doing it right, not doing it fast. We found no issues when the job was done, no missed spots or dripped paint, anything like that. Pretty professional and seemless job throughout. I like that the company is local, so the owner is able to run out and check on things quickly as needed. We would recommend them for sure. ---- Updated August 2014: We re-hired Chesapeake Painting to take care of the outdoor railing and posts on our outdoor porch. It was a quick job, but required sanding down the old paint, priming, painting, taking care of the steps, etc, which can be tedious with small rails and such. However, the job was done very quickly and professionally, i haven't seen a single drip or smudge on the porch itself. We would recommend Chesapeake Painting for both indoor and outdoor painting.

We had old wallpaper removed from several rooms in the house. The workers were very professional and did a great job! In 3 days, they removed 4 rooms worth of wallpaper, patched up all the walls, and put a prime coat on 2 of the rooms as we requested. Great job, very satisfied!
